The labels reflect the relationship between the French and English, but they ignore the large, thriving community that existed when the Europeans arrived in the 15th and 16th centuries. These were more than barren lands when the explorers arrived. The territory that is now Canada was home to aboriginal people who had established complex systems of government and commerce. The French arrived in the New World before the English, and quickly immersed themselves in a lucrative fur trade with the indigenous people then known as "Indians." These Frenchmen were the rugged coureurs de bois (runners of the woods) who lived for the adventure of the fur trade. Their work helped to establish communities in what are now Montreal, Trois-Rivieres and Cap-de-la-Madeleine.

Scripture proves this in the following words: 'But the multitude of those who believed acted with one soul and one mind.' And again, 'And all were persevering with one mind in prayer with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus and His brethren.' Thus they prayed with efficacious prayers; thus they were able with confidence to obtain whatever they asked of God's mercy.

Extractions: The Index of Learning Styles is an instrument used to assess preferences on four dimensions (active/reflective, sensing/intuitive, visual/verbal, and sequential/global) of a learning style model formulated by Richard M. Felder and Linda K. Silverman. The instrument is being developed by Barbara A. Soloman and Richard M. Felder of North Carolina State University. A preliminary version of the ILS was tested, the responses were subjected to factor analysis, and some items that were not providing noticeable discrimination were replaced. The revised Web-based version of the instrument, which was scripted by Benjamin Heard of North Carolina State University, may be accessed by following the directions at the bottom of this page. The ILS is still under development and cannot be considered as having been validated. The results provide an indication of an individual's learning preferences and probably an even better indication of the preference profile of a group of students (e.g. a class), but they should not be over-interpreted.
