Extractions: No século XVIII com Rousseau o quadro natural assumiu um papel distinto, passando a estar envolvido no quotidiano. O homem do século XIX vê a floresta com outro olhar. Perdeu o medo e o instinto dominador, procurando nela a harmonia. É essa a lição de David Thoreau em "Waden" . Mas também é neste momento que o homem toma consciência da sua acção devastadora sobre a floresta. O primeiro grito é de Marsh em "Man and nature" (1874). EASTMAN MSS. Packer Berry, John Edgar Berry, Margaret Best Irene Josephson, Frederick A. Judson,Eleanor Kairalla Olivia (Rosebrook) McConnell, Katharine (Dexter) McCormick http://www.indiana.edu/~liblilly/lilly/mss/html/eastman.html
Extractions: The Eastman mss., 1892-1968, consist of the correspondence and writings of Max Forrester Eastman, 1883-1969, author. The earliest pieces include a few family letters from his mother, Annis Bertha (Ford) Eastman, (Mrs. Samuel Elijah Eastman), 1852-1910, minister, and his sister, Crystal Eastman, 1881-1928, lawyer. With the biographical materials is the Dutch painting that Eastman's mother brought to him from Europe. Other related family correspondence may be found in the Anstice Ford Eastman mss., of his brother, 1878- 1937?, physician. Letters from friends and neighbors of Elmira and Glenora, New York, and from his classmates and acquaintances at Mercersburg Academy and Williams College also belong to the correspondence of the early period of Eastman's life. Completing his work for a Ph.D. degree at Columbia and encouraged by John Dewey, he taught logic for three years at the University. In 1909 Eastman organized the Men's League for Woman's Suffrage. His marriage to Ida Rauh, actress and poet, occurred in 1911 and produced comment when it was learned Miss Rauh would retain her maiden name. Their son Daniel was born in 1912. A year later Eastman's first books, Enjoyment of Poetry and Child of the Amazons, were published. During this time he became editor of The Masses with its new idea in format and inclination toward then-radical causes and worked with it until its close in October, 1917. The next year with his sister Crystal Eastman as co-owner he started a new periodical with similar interests called The Liberator.

Extractions: Series Descriptions ... Sub-Series: Gargoyle Recordings Introduction As of June, 1995, this finding aid is preliminary, designed to capture as much information as possible about the 11 cubic foot collection as it now exists. With the exception of one videotape cassette, this collection consists entirely of audiotape recordings. Roughly half are recorded in reel-to-reel magnetic audiotape format. These reels appear fragile and will have to be reformatted to cassette format to be used by researchers. Additionally, service copies of all of the recordings should be made before they are made available for general use. Production of the final finding aid for this collection is dependent upon reformatting and creating service copies of these recordings. Cavalieri has recently expressed her interest in donating additional personal papers and materials related to her writing, including manuscripts of her plays. The collection was donated by Grace Cavalieri in December of 1989 as part of the Washington Writer's Archive. Cavalieri has since donated copies of her books of poetry as they are published. These published volumes of Cavalieri's poetry, along with the volume of the WPFW Poets Anthology, which she edited, are shelved in the Department of Special Collections stacks. While the donor transferred all her psysical rights to the collection materials upon their donation, she does retain certain literary property rights to the materials. The audiotapes in this collection consist mainly of recordings of arts and literature-oriented radio programs which were produced by Cavalieri for the Washington, D.C. non-commericial radio station WPFW-FM 89.3 between 1975 and 1989. The largest portion of these tapes were recorded between 1977 and 1986.
