Excellent Book for both Coaches and Players
I just recently read the book "Between the Lines" and I was very pleased with how easy the book was to read as well as the content in the book.The author is very detailed about everything that is in the book, so you do not have to be a sports psychologist to understand the material.One of my favorite topics the author covered was the difference between a "Hit" and a "Quality at Bat."This topic was something I never thought of until now, but made so much sense.I have been a softball player for over 15 years and I am now starting to get involved with coaching and I would say this book is a MUST read for both players and coaches.

I Really like this book!. Coach Tuttle always appears Wrapped up in bandages because he always trips and fall. He does not know anything about softball. Could the new softball coach really be a mummy?

I like this book because I like mysteries.It is about a mummy coaching softball.The mummy is always getting hurt.That's why he's all wrapped up in bandages. I think that other kids would like this book too because it's funny.

OK, wrap it up!
You would think that by now, the 21st installment in the Bailey School Kids series, that someone other than a bunch of third graders would notice all these strange characters showing up!!Actually, that's a good deal of the fun of the series!!

The gang is assembled again, this time to play ball against their school rival.Problem is, they never win!It's like the field is CURSED or something...Along comes Coach Tuttle who is perhaps THE most uncoordinated person around!He slips, trips, falls and bangs himself up something terrible.It's like the man HIMSELF is cursed or something...He even carries around HUGE bundles of bandages to patch himself up with.When he's done, he looks a lot like... well, like a MUMMY!But mummies don't coach softball...DO THEY?!?

"Mummies Don't..." is a much more complicated book than any of the others in the series.It involves this supposedly human coach, a missing diamond from a mummy's tomb, the Bailey School baseball diamond, Mrs. Jeeper's house (the 3rd grade teacher who is supposedly a vampire), and a curse. Somehow, it all gets jumbled up and doesn't make much sense, though everything seems to come clean in the end.There is little suspense in this book, and that razzing-insult-a-minute that we've grown to know and love is also missing from this work. I personally was expecting more of a REAL mummy to make an appearance, vs. some clumsy dude in elastic bandages.For die-hard fans of the series who wish to proudly say, "yes, *I've* read all the books!", I recommend it.If you're just into reading a few here, a few there, then this one can go on the skip list.

Mummies Don't Coach Softball
I loved the book. The story was about a bunch of kids that thought their softball coach was a Mummy from ancient Egypt! Great Ideas for Practice
I looked through lots of books at the Bookstore and I was looking more for ideas for practice and helping kids learn new skills.This book provides learning through games, strategies and many more useful tools. I think that keeping the kids busy and learning in practice with little idle time is essential. It also gives you a plan for the year per age group. This book has given me lots of ideas.Thanks.

Psychology of Coaching
This book is a great book to discuss the pshycological aspect of coaching.The book discussed what it means to be a coach and how to deal with parents.It did have a few drills at the end of the book that were somewhat helpful but overall this book didn't have a lot of useful informationfor myself.If you want a great book for coaching, buy"The baffled Parents Guide To Coaching Youth Softball".

A more appropriate title would have been "The Psychological Aspects of Coaching Youth Softball".This book's strength is in that area.However, I was very disapointed in it's minimal discussion of specificdrills (batting, defense, base running etc.)

Best insight to coaching I've ever read!
This book has helped me as a parent and a coach.It is a useful tool for up and coming softball player, ages 12 and up.I gave it to my 13 year old and she really understands now, the why's of what we expect as coaches.She is more motivated and driven, less attitude on the field and more leadership.

I recommend this to anyone who has a child that plays fast pitch softball and for their child.ALL coached should read this book just before their season starts and again half-way through, when things get tough or parent issues arise.

Who is the person cauising all the trouble for Kristy's softball team?
Synopsis: On a warm sunny Wednesday in June, seven-year-old Karen Brewer is hanging out in the tree-house with her younger brother Andrew, eating cookies. Karen later calls her stepsister Kristy to confirm their practice session the following day, since Karen is part of Kristy's softball team called "Kristy's Krushers".

However, when Karen goes for practice, there are a lot of new kids who are wanting to join the team, and some of them have trouble adjusting with the other kids. There's Barbie Spencer, who wants her younger brother Julian to join the team, because they are new in town, and Barbie feels that Julian will make more friends if he is in the team. Then there is Jack Darvin, who criticizes Kristy's methods of being a coach as she doesn't point out his sister Alice's faults and improve on them. Mr. Benson is another man who wants his son Marty to hit a home run every time he hits the bat, and again criticizes Kristy for it. Karen feels sorry that Kristy is having a hard time coaching so many new people in the team.

To make matters worse, strange things start happening in the field. Someone removes pages M-W from Kristy's notebook; two bats go missing, along with a catcher's mitt and batting gloves. The culprit also erases the statistics from Kristy's notebook and puts in fake numbers instead, and also puts Elmer's Glue in two of the catcher's mitts, and knocks a row of bats over a boy named Jake, making him trip and having him injured.

It is up to Karen and her best friends Nancy Dawes and Hannie Papadakis to team up as detectives and find out who is behind all this, and put an end to it. While all this is going on, Karen and her friends are also busy planning a party for their teacher Ms. Colman she is returning from her maternity leave, and another party for having to say goodbye to their substitute teacher, Ms. Hoffman. But, their preparations don't go according to plan, especially when Ms. Hoffman tells them that Ms. Colman return has been delayed. Will Karen and her classmates ever see their favorite teacher return?

Review: I enjoyed reading this mystery. Since there were so many new kids added to the story, I had a hard time guessing who could be behind all the scheming in the field. I also enjoyed the way Karen organizes the clues, and evidence, along with a list of suspects in a very organized manner so that they can track down the culprit in a systematic and logical manner.

I also liked the second story of Ms. Colman's return, as it was cute to see how the children reacted when she brought Jane for the students to see. I also found some parts of the book hilarious, such as when Karen gives her tea set at the toy sale, and later ends up buying more toys, making her mother irritated.Some other parts of the story which I thought were memorable was when Karen figures out who the culprit is, when they play with the Bashers in the end of the book, and when Karen has to figure out what toys she wants to give for the toy sale.

The illustrations by Susan Tang were a nice addition to the story, and I enjoyed viewing the ones with Karen and Nancy having a shocked expression in their face, knowing that Ms. Colman would not be coming for the party they planned, or when Karen doesn't want to give any of her toys when her mother asks her to, and when Karen notes down the clues and suspects to the case at hand.

Overall, I thought this was a funny, light-hearted book with an entertaining mystery that young children or anyone who likes reading the series would enjoy.

A good series for the young reader
This book is only one in a long series of the adventures of Karen "Two-Two" Brewer. She gave herself and her brother the nickname "Two-Two" because they now seem to have two of everything (including homes and sets of parents) since their parents divorced. As the child of parents who divorced and then remarried, Karen has stepparents and step brothers and sisters, so the interaction of family characters varies in each book.

In this story, Karen and her two best friends Hannie and Nancy play detectives to get to the bottom of mysterious happenings during softball practice. The team, Kristiy's Krushers is run by Karen's older sister.All the neighborhood kids want to play on the team, but at tryouts things keep going wrong! Bats and gloves are disappearing and reappearing and other equipment is being sabotaged.If things don't change Kristy's team may not be able to play. Karen and her friends form the Three Musketeers Detective Agency to get to the bottom of it but can they figure out the mystery in time to save the team?

Young kids (especially girls ages 7-10) will enjoy bonding with Karen and her friends in this series. It's easy to read and there are even a couple of pictures to add to the story.

The Best Technical Reference on Baseball Fields I could find
I used this technical reference book for a course in Contracts and Procurement, in which I had to write detailed specifications for a baseball park.These specifications were part of a Request for Proposal to a fictitious group of general contractors.

This book left no stone unturned, educating me on all aspects of building and maintaining a ball diamond.My professor, who had seen many similar papers before, was impressed and I received a perfect mark.

I also interviewed a general contractor who was building 8 baseball fields, and found I was able to talk intelligently with him, and knew all the various terms and types of materials used in a baseball field, as a direct result of reading this book.

I was impressed with the overall knowledge of the authors, starting with how to grade the park for maximum drainage and playability, fencing, types of turf required for various weather zones in North America, pest and weed prevention, layout, dimensions, equipment used for maintaining and marking the field -- there wasn't one thing I wanted to know that I couldn't find in this book.
