5-0 out of 5 stars Paintball book
pretty useful book if your new to paintball lot of hints, tips and tricks. bought it to brush up on some things, lot of info for the novice to experts even, highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Good Stuff!
Although some folks may be disappointed by the few black and white pictures in this book, I was extremely pleased with the content of the text. The author has obviously spent plenty of time playing paintball, and thinking about paintball. As a former woods ball player, I picked this book up for my pre-teen nephew, who's just getting into the sport.I was so pleased to find actually useful info about marker maintenance and repair, field tactics, and lots of other good stuff - many of which I had to find out the hard way for myself back in the day. This book makes a great companion to several other books that are geared toward paintball "newbies": Buy this one to go along with any of the latest picture-laden books. There are real "gems" in here!

5-0 out of 5 stars My number 1 resource
As a beginning player, this book had absolutely everything I needed, from the basic rules, to how to keep my goggles unfogged, to basic maintenance of my gear.I feel like I can actually get in the game, just knowing simple things like that paintballs travel in lanes, so there are safe places to stand just a foot away from a heavy exchange of paint.

There's also a ton of stuff about boobie trapping, ghillie suits and building bunkers.Dave also answers specific questions through his website (www.501paintballtips.com), which is useful when I don't know the terms to use to look up my question.
Great resource.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Ultimate Guide
The author knows exactly what he is talking about. I have not only witnessed, but have been there, on the field with this paintball obsessed human. He not only likes it, but loves it. This book will deliver and tell you all the secrets. I highly recommend this book. A must read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for Everyone
While I have never been a fan of paintball, I do have a copy of this book. It has really helped me better understand why my friends love the game and really does a good job explaining what the game is all about. I would think that even more experienced players would get use from many of the tips that are included. Whether you are an experienced player looking for an advantage, or a beginner looking to get a better handle on the game, this is a great book.

Also, I have followed the paintball career of the author for sometime and truly believe that he has all the knowledge and experience to be considered a master of the game. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars informative for new comers, not for seasoned players
Very very nice paint ball book.
Great historic information for both advanced and new players.

Most other information is really only useful for new players.

A few of the tactics information is great.

Pick this book up if your new or thinking about getting into paintball and dont mind that its a few years behind.

Sent as advertised. Great buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly good and acurate, must have for pb
This is a great book. It covers basically everything you could think of in pbing and teaches you many new ideaas and tricks. I found that it helped put my ideas in words too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Something for everyone
This book is the Bible of paintball. It covers the basics for beginners and runs up through drills for more advanced players, including some interviews with big figures in paintball, like some of the original players who were in the first game ever played, current pro players, gun designers and the owner/operator of Skirmish USA.

A word of caution after having read another review on this page - this book covers a lot, but not individual markers. Very few books cover specific markers and upgrades. That would date the book extremely quickly (see the reviews for Paintball!: Strategies & Tactics by Bill Barnes) and it would be impossible to be comprehensive. If you don't believe me, check out Special Ops Paintball's website - there's already enough there to fill a book, and that's only one company's offerings. The book offers some general guidelines for upgrading your marker, and that's the best you'll get from almost any worthwhile book out there.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for beginners ...
... but not very useful if you have a few games under your belt. It's the extreme basics of the game. If you're new, it's a worthwhile read, but otherwise skip it in favor of a heftier guide.

1-0 out of 5 stars Out of Date
"A Complete History of Paintball" would be a better title.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Starters
This is an excellent starter guide. It lets experts guide the beginner through a great way to get started. More advanced players may be bored with the slower pace, but beginners will enjoy it and welcome some of the repetition. The title "Ultimate" does not mean "Complete". For that, I would get the "Complete Guide to Paintball" (2nd edition). Or, do what I did and get both.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for the beginner, useful for the intermediate player.
If you have been playing paintball for a while this book covers a lot of what you already know but I bet you will learn some new stuff too (excellent chapter on barrel technology). If you are new or relatively new to paintball then this book is perfect for you.It covers a wide range of topics including how to buy new and used equipment. At about the cost of a hopper full of paint this book is a good deal.Get this book and save yourself some money, time, and pain!

3-0 out of 5 stars Begginer Helper
This is a realy good guide if you are just starting or if you haven't started yet. It was not a help to me at all to me because i am a pretty expirianced player. The articles are written by expirianced players, but the book makes it seem like they are writing to begginers. I would not spend money on this if you are already got a grip on paintball, but it will help nonexpirianced players get a good idea, and if not, they could change the plan and have a complex stratigy! There were a whole lot of articles that got off the subject as well. The maker needs to make another book for more expirianced players to read and still get help or better ideas. ... Read more

Product Description

It can be as playful as a party game, or as dead serious as military training for a coming deployment. But whatever your approach to paintball or Airsoft, there are rules to learn, tactics to master, variations to discover, and equipment to consider. And in every instance, Paintball and Airsoft Battle Tactics has the answers.

The ultimate resource for these sports so popular among weekend warriors and military simulators, this book helps novice players and veterans alike to hone their skills and sharpen their understanding of the art and science of MilSim strategy and tactics.

Written by a military analyst with real-world experience training combatants around the world, this paintball and Airsoft tacticians bible refreshes and refocuses the military simulator, but it doesnt stop there. 2-0 out of 5 stars very misleading title
I was looking for a book that could give me advice and food for thought to pass on to my team mates and bring them to the next level. I found mostly nothing of this.

There is a grand total of 4 pages mildly specific to Airsoft and paintball, all the rest is pretty dry military jargon that - as an ex-military - I find far too SOP for my taste. If you don't understand the double meaning of SOP then this book will bore you, if you do, then you know you need to stay away.

The drills succeed the rare exploit of being at the same time unpractical, shallow and over the top. You won't know how to dislodge a camping player, you won't know how to set a diversion, you will not know how to effectively pace an attack, defend in depth, conduct a coordinated assault or, more modestly, a plain vanilla one. You will not know how to use the most nimble guys in your team, how to use a sniper while trying to break through a line of players, make use of airsoft grenades if you have any, lay to good use a volley of suppressing BBs, reposition yourself to maintain pressure on the other team or do anything that actually happens in an airsoft game.

You will obviously not find anything like a scenario. No "blackhawk down", "bring back the evidence", "body count", "bunker assault", or even the simple "capture the flag"(!). For the matter, you won't find any discussion of typical airsoft/paintball situations.

What you will find is a smoke and mirror re-packaging of unadapted (and mostly shallow) military drills trying to capture gullible paintball and airsoft players. Good marketing, but go and spend your dollars elsewhere, probably on a real military book or this one instead Paintball Warrior Tactics: Secrets of serious bushball players

5-0 out of 5 stars Airsoft battle & Tactics
This is one of the most informative books that I have ever read. Even though I haven't finished yet, I still ahve learned so much from this book. A must buy for any one who is starting out in airsoft. Even helpfulk for the most experienced players.

Oh yeah, this pertains more to airsoft than paintball.

5-0 out of 5 stars I liked it allot
Good book for beginners who want to know about Special Ops tactics to aid them in Airsoft and Paintball.

3-0 out of 5 stars This is NOT for everyday paintball.
Ordered this book expecting a book on battle tactics relating to paintball. That is to say situations that play out everyday on your average paintball field. Where bunkers are created ahead of time and the enemy is easily apparent. There is no real reason for patrols since the total length of an infantry patrol in line formation is a quarter of the field.

Instead what I found was a book on small infantry tactics and patrols. As other reviewers stated, this is for the hardcore mil-sim crowd. From what I can gather the author repackaged another one of his books and put the word paintball in the title. No discussion on paintball weapons or bunker tactics faced in the everyday world. If you plan on playing a scenario game in Cambodia with 5000 people it would be great. It makes good reading but at full MSRP it is definitely a disappointment.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of military tactics for laymen
I recently recieved this great book from amazon and it lived up to my expectations. After playing airsoft for a few years now I realized I could use some more team tactics, and this book was perfect in that effect. The layout is good, and the information is accurate.

However, for the average airsofter this book may be a "big bite" in that it contains a lot of larger force tactics, such as communicating with the forward OP on a scouting mission, with large battlegrounds, and organized deployment (I know of a few fields that have enough people to do large scale warfare like this, but of course the average airsofter isn't going to be concerned about this).

But I still strongly recommend this book. I would have given it a 4.5, but not a 5, just because of the above fact, and so it recieved a 4/5. ... Read more

Product Description
Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Paintball," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Paintball in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Paintball when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Paintball, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great drills to develop as a player.
This book has excellent tips and strategies essential to the development of a tournament-ball paintball player. My younger brother has gotten the most out of its simple axioms, using the mindset and insight it provides to the reader to help push him to the next level of play -- division 3 tournament-ball. It alone is not enough; you have to practice and apply what the book talks about and fashion your own style that compliments your abilities as an individual player, but as as suppliment for understanding how to better your game it is top-notch. Comes with my recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Availibility problem solved
We had a little trouble with Amazon delivering copies on time that seems to be solved, sorry about any delays.

We hope you enjoy the only book on Paintball that covers the entire spectrum of Paintball performance from mental prep and drills to team management and on-field specific strategy.

Paintball is modern gunfighting and this book gives you nuts and bolts specifics on how to succeed in every aspect of the game.

In addition, we offer the perspective of Paintball as a legitimate martial art and show parallels to other combat sports, as well as timeless wisdom you can use immediately, from beginner to pro.

We do not pad our book with gear reviews or article reprints, just how to hone your most important weapons, your mind and body, working together as one coordinated unit.

Enjoy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never read it!
I'm giving this book 5 stars only because I refuse to impugn its content in order to bring you this important message: The availability for this item has never been as advertised. Order at your own peril!

And Barry, I'm sorry this book never arrived for your birthday when I originally ordered it back in AUGUST. Them's the breaks, kid.

5-0 out of 5 stars From stretching, teamwork, movements, mindset, tournament, and recreation. Must for all paintballers!
If you plan to be better in paintballing and would like some USEFUL information, this book is what you need! It will show you how to move in different scenarios with more than just point and shoot.

It has to do with HOW you move and WHEN to shoot. Crawling, pop-shooting, training drills, and team advancement formation (and strategies).

It also talks about the mindset of being a paintballer. Remember when you had that day when you felt like you were an action hero? Where everything that was and wasn't planned still worked for the best? This book will show you how to be in that 'state' all the time and the powerful advantage of having your mindset in the right direction. You'll be amazed to what you can do.

This is a great addition to your collection of books. He doesn't mention anything about markers and which one is better. The best investment you can make in the game of paintball isn't a $1200+ marker or all the accessories in the world. It's yourself as a player! SO START READING!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Good
This book is very good. No, it does not get all Zen on you, but it does help get into a better and more competitive mindset. It helps in your day-to-day competitions and in your team strategy. The drills are very good, even though they get a bit long. The photos are good, even though there might be too many photos of stretching. On stretching, make sure you do not over-stretch -- you can do more harm than good. There are some typos and such, but the content is worth five stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Scenario Paintball: Tips, Tools, and Tactics from the Trenches
I bought this book upon my fourteen year old boy's request for his birthday. He was still out of school for summer vacation at the time, and he read the entire book in one day, the very day it arrived.I can't think of a better review as a parent of a "non-reader".However, regarding the contents of the book, I can say that my son has enthusiastically related to me numerous passages of various techniques that he viewed as great ideas to enhance his paintball experience.

4-0 out of 5 stars A darn good start for scenario paintball teams
I immediately found several great ideas to make our team better. Individuals and team members can benefit from this book. I would have given this book a 5 star had it been all instructional without the fictional narrative chapters. I must admit that the fiction is right on the money. Overall excellent, but with a little more filler on various types of scenario games than I would have preferred. Even though I found the types of scenario games interesting, as a team leader, I usually don't have the clout to select the content of a scenario game. Hopefully every field owner, and scenario event planner reads these from soup to nuts. Even though I have played some of the game ideas in the book, many of the game ideas I haven't played seem like a ton of fun, and would add significantly to the game. This author has a followup book that has more nuts and bolts scenario techniques that add to the knowledge base of this book. If you like this book, as I do, then try the author's advanced scenario techniques book.

2-0 out of 5 stars very simple
I did not find a lot of useful information.Very general. It will not teach you more than you know.Save your money.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Newbie book
This book was very basic. It is any newbie's dream come true because it tells you everything you need to know, plus a side story which is very interesting. I did not learn anything from it being experienced but give it to any new players. This should be renamed as "Newbie's handbook". This is not a bad thing but don't excpect a goldmine of information if you're experienced.

2-0 out of 5 stars For Beginners Only
This book seems more appropriate for beginners than for veterans. Its shallow overview of the sport of woodsball presents little useful information. Unless you are from the inner city and have never been in the woods, you should probably not buy this book.

For those new to the sport of paintball, everything in "Scenario Paintball: Tips and Tactics..." can be learned in 15 minutes by talking to someone who has paintballed before, [...]

If you are not a beginner, you already know everything Grubish presents. The tactics he offers are very rudimentary (e.g. Wedge, Hammer and Anvil), and statements like "a mask is worn to protect your face and eyes" aren't helpful. Additionally, the author's tone is somewhat patronizing and at times very unprofessional.

One novel part of this book that I did appreciate was Grubish suggestions for scenarios. However, these again seemed geared towards someone with no experience or intelligence. Anyone who has ever played a FPS or watched a war movie could easily come up with scenarios like "Capture the Bridge" on their own. This section is not enough to save the book from being shallow.

In short, there are better sources of information than this book. A friend, a local vendor, an army Field Manual, anything. Grubish will not tell you anything you don't already know. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful and informative!
I came into this book knowing nothing about paintball (and not being a parent, but that's beside the point). Now I know more than I did before, and am rather interested in giving paintball a try!

The book presents an easy-to-read overview of paintball. You get to read about the history, the equipment, some tips on playing, etc. You'll learn quite a lot about what you need to have (face masks, a barrel blocking device), and things that are optional. You'll learn what to look for in a good place to play and a bit about teams and the like.

I found the book to be quite helpful, especially since I knew next to nothing about paintball prior to reading it. It was also surprisingly entertaining! At no point did I feel like I was just reading some guide book; the love the author has for the subject was quite clear.

Not many books manage to be both informative and enjoyable, but this one does. Recommended! ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars A lot of essays on paintball
I was looking more for who, what, when, where and how, but this is more of a biographical history of paintball told through several essays on the subject. It is informative, but NOT my go to definitive guide to paintball. It seems more like a series of magazine articles, than an actual book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Outdated
THis is a good book for noobs but thats realy it. Its so old it includes the first few shockers. Not even WDP from 04.

4-0 out of 5 stars the complete guide to paintball, third edition

5-0 out of 5 stars A virtual encyclopedia of expert advice
Now in an updated, expanded, and illustrated third edition, The Complete Guide To Paintball can justifiably be considered as the "bible" of one of the country's most popular personal competition sporting activities. This is a virtual encyclopedia of expert advice and information on the rules, equipment, clothing, safety, tactics, fields, and every other aspect of the game. If you are a participant (or soon to be one) in this exciting and challenging game where you shoot (and get shot at with) a paint-filled gelatin capsule from an air-powered "marker" gun at a velocity of 300 feet per second, then you will need your very own copy of The Complete Guide To Paintball! ... Product Description
This manual is a guide for paintball players and teams. It will give the individual player, the squad leader, andthe team leader, basic guidance on how to play as a paintball team. Techniques, tactics, and procedures that pertain to most simulated-combat situations are covered, but it does not provide the tactical solutions to all tactical situations.
The tactics you learn from this manual are not strictly for tournament play; they are tactics to be used in all paintball scenarios; from recreational play on weekends, to twenty-four hour scenarios, to night games.

This manual assumes you are beyond the beginner stage and are ready to enter the realm of advanced, small-unit paintball tactics. You will learn not only how to defeat the opposition, but how to psychologically destroy him in the process.

This manual contains the guidelines to form and train a paintball team that will be coordinated, cohesive and controlled, in all paintball situations. Your team’s players will move and act in unison. They will work together to achieve the common purpose; victory. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars People who apprecite it will love it.
I think that the idots who criticise this book are just not fully appreciateing it. In today's world of Angel's and Autococker's with Halo B's, and games of speedball that use 20,000 rounds(no joke that is an actual amount from a recent NPPL tournie), it is nice to look back to a simpler time, where a 48 round WGP loader or a 10 round feed tube was completly acceptible. The people who wrote the scathing review's are either n00b slayer's with 1500 dollar Angel's who think that anything that shoots under 17 BPS is unacceptable, or they are ungrateful idiots who don't give a crap about what actually built this sport. It takes much more skill to "snipe", not quite the right word, with a VSC Phantom than it does to dump a case of paint down field with a Angel. I reccomend this book to any new players who want to learn the basic skills it takes to suceed in paintball, or old school players. A great read for all appreciative paintballers.

4-0 out of 5 stars Paintball, the Wizard's Way: The Authoritative Book on Paint
One of the best paintball refrences from yesteryear. This stroll down memory lane is still packed with exelent information for the beginning or occasional recerational player (the tournament level stuff is so outdated as to be funny however.) Some of the equipment mentioned (SMG-60's for example) are not availible any more, but the basic information of action types, and their advantages still holds true.
Enjoy the refrence, then get out to your local fields and enjoy the game... keep it safe, and Goggles On!And perhaps I'll see you there.

3-0 out of 5 stars worth it
This book is worth reading no matter if you are new to the sport or very experienced.Someone previously mentioned that this book tells you bad tips, it does not. He said that snipeing is a waste of time, but most paintballers know that you dont really snipe on a SPEEDBALL FIELD!This book gave me some better tactics to be a sniper but you cant just decide to be one over night you have to practice like the guy who bad mouthed the book before did not. If you want to try snipeing read this book and practice a little on some wooded fields and you will find that it is much more efficent than wasteing 1,000 rounds every five minutes on a speed ball field, this book tells you some tips on how to do so.

1-0 out of 5 stars DONT BUY THIS
If you are a serious paintballer, your not going to hide out in the woods alone as he describes in the book, your going to work with your team. Sniping might be good for 1 or 2 tags, but in speedball, you have no chance. Sniping is the worst possible strategy you can use. Take my advice, im a tournament paintballer I know. Try it sometime, you get killed fast....

3-0 out of 5 stars About the book.
This book is out dated but still have some good ideas for the new players. It is a good book if you are just starting to get into the game. The book is mostly about being a sniper on the paintball field. It has some good strategy for new and old players but some of the equipment that he talks about is old. I found the book vary interresting for a out dated book. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Naw, this books good!
I got a copy of this for my brother - we buy all the paintball stuff we can read - and I gotta say that from one gunner to another, I don't agree with the other review. Guy covers pretty much all of the action here and stuff he says about the equipment is kind of right on, too. Theres been some good books that come out lately that are more up dated on stuff, but this is okay, even with the dorky title.
Right on bro.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wordy, Inaccurate, and Incomplete, with a few gems
I was thrilled when I saw that a new paintball book was out. Given the poor quality of past paintball books, I was hoping for something that really would be "the complete guide to games, gear, and tactics". To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. This is book is worthwhile only for the most raw and uninformed newcomer to paintball, and even then, you could do better simply bydoing some research on the internet and reading the existing literature in print. A new player reading this book will learn a few things, but also come away with ideas that are inaccurate, incomplete, and at times, downright dangerous.

I should start with some strengths though, to keep you from thinking this book is all bad: it is not. It has good coverage of the closed bolt/open bolt accuracy controversy, though again, you could just go to warpig.com and read the tests for yourself. Sapp is at his best when he is talking technical gear. His section on air systems is quite good, and there is a good section on restoring bad paintballs (though given how cheap these are, I find my time is way more valuable than that). There is also a very clearly-written, almost brilliant sidebar on avoiding dehydration, complete with a description of early symptoms and medically sound advice on what to do if you start feeling them. One of my favorite bits was the interview with Amy Chantry in the "Womin in Paintball" section. She quite lucidly attacks the current trend of cutesy "spokesmodels" marketing guns and gear they've never used for major companies. Cool!

However, the good (and even great) aspects don't balance the rest of the book's problems. The book's style can only be described asrelentlessly chatty: it is so wordy and tangent-prone that getting through even the intro in one sitting was painful. Reading the whole book caused me to pull my own hair out. I don't know why the editor didn't take the good material and cut the wordy, irrelevant stuff. This would have given a book about 1/3 as long, but packed with information. As it is, the incredibly wordy and unorganized style is a major obstacle.

This gets realy strange when Sapp tried to do a paintball history. Not only is much of it wrong, but he creates controversies that don't exist, and tries to make paintball super-historically significant by tying it into the Cold War, economic trends of the 70s and 80s, and even the Iran hostage crisis. Want to know how the Ayatollah Khomeini ties into paintball? Read Chapter 2! The worst part is that this forced historicism significantly distorts the early history of paintball. Sapp makes Hayes Noel (one of the creators of the original Survival Game) out to be a kind of scared, insecure wimp, who felt inferior to his sportsmen friends and invented paintball because "he was getting old". He also takes two seperate incidents in the development of the first paintball game idea and turns them into competing versions of how it got started, introducing the non-controversy on page 13 with a bizarre paragraph that talks about the psychology of legal witnesses in criminal cases and the weakness of memory, and even mentions a lawyer by name. (Who IS "Mary O'Rourke of Florida", anyway, and what does she have to do with paintball?) Anyone who wants to know the reasons behind the Survival Game and how it came to be can read the interviews with Charles Gaines and HayesNoel in "The Complete Guide to Paintball," or better yet, buy a copy of the original "Official Survival Game Manual" from 1983 by Lionel Atwill. It blatantly contradicts Sapp's narrative on half a dozen points, on a wide vareity of topics. Incidentally, Sapp says that the first games were played with "pump-action markers." It was not. The original guns all used a very nasty, slow, and hard-to-work cocking knob, and the pump, when it came out in the mid-80s, was a huge improvement. Check out an original Nelspot 007 and you'll see what I mean. You may think this is nit-picking, but if Sapp is going to try to do paintball history, he has to get it right. It's clear he never talked to any of the original creators, even though they are all still around and willing to talk. His research is sloppy and incomplete, and his assertions about early paintball are wildly inaccurate. On page 102, he even states that "Back in the 70s, paintballs were oil-based and that meant players had to scrub with turpentine." Of course, there were no players in the 70s, because the game of paintball hadn't been invented yet! The Nelspot and the paintablls to fire from it did exist, but there were no players yet: the gun was strictly a tool for ranchers and foresters.

That level of professionalism is evident in the whole book. While some of the gear sections are nicely done, almost all of it is straight out of the manufacturers' literature (and therefore, all the products are great!). Sapp admits this in the "Special Note" on page 5. He says that he mostly covered the gear whose makers sent him info and pictures he could use. What you get, then, is a list of manufacturers and their products, but almost no analysis of which products are good, bad, or indifferent. In most cases, you can just cruise paintball web sites and get that information. I certainly don't need to pay $13.99 to get a list of all the markers Brass Eagle makes! Useful tidbits are there, but they are very few and far between. An overriding desire not to offend an manufactuers (or not to do any real research or trials) seems to drive the book.

Finally, for new players, there are some serious problems. In the section on tactics, he tells us that blind firing is a great idea! Blind firing (shooting by poking your marker--but not your head-- from behind cover), is illegal on every reputable field and will get you kicked out pronto! This is because it is incredibly unsagfe: you have no idea what you are shooting at. Are you hitting a spectator? A ref? A teammate? Someone who foolishly took off his goggles and is now going to be blind thanks to you? It is amazing that this got into a book published in 2004. He also suggests barrel plugs, when almost everyone switched to barrel bags as the only approved safety device long before this was published. I can see a new player arriving at a game with a barrel plug, only to be told that it is not acceptable, and he needs to buy a barrel bag: not cool. Finally, his very brief discussion of paintabll tanks mentions not one safety issue. Instead, it talks about how cool the Tippmann Hellhound is, especially its grenade launcher and its 45mph speed. Great! The problem is, the Hellhound was never meant to be taken out on a field, and has never been used in a game. It would be insanely dangerous to do so, and no game promoter in his right mind would let it on the field. A discussion of tanks (this is the COMPLETE guide to games, gear and tactics, remember?) needs to take into account safety issues and the actual rules in use, so a new player can grasp how and why tanks get used, and how and why they don't. Is some new players were to use this book as a safety guide for outlaw paintball, there could be some serious injuries or deaths.

I could go on about mistaken captions on photos, incomplete equipment sections, or the depressing regularity with which scantily clad models who don't play paintball appear in the book, but I won't. There are buried treasures here, and the author seems to have a good heart and the right attitude on a lot of levels, but there is an immatuirty and lack of organization here that are just unforgivable. If the author didn't catch these problems, the editor should have.

I think I can sum the book up by quoting from page 199. "Half of paintball is how you play, and the other half is how you look while playing." If that sums up your view of paintball, go ahead and buy this book asap! If, on the other hand, you are looking for clearly presented, accurate, and complete information, run screaming from this book. Instead, buy the "Complete Guide to Paintball." It is flawed and badly dated, but still far superior to this dog. I wanted to give it two stars, but given the extremely dangerous safety advice it gives newcomers, I had to go with one. ... Product Description
Have you ever pondered the sport of paintball? How is this wild and wooly “game” played? What equipment or gear do I need? Is it only for pre-teen or teenage boys? Here is some insider’s info to get you inching down that pathway to this quite unexpectedly cool sport that is ready and waiting for anyone, anywhere to play... whether you are a youngster or maybe an oldster, or if you are skinny or fat, an athlete or a geek. Amazing, right?

The sensational thing about paintball is that anyone can play… I would even say just about everyone! You might be male or female and you probably still can play this high-action game. Truth be told, even your grandmother and grandfather can join in the fun of this terrific sport. It will be an exciting time for
families to get together and have some fun!

Paintball has evolved and through the years and can be played in different ways. In one version of the game teams can one flag each and the other team must capture that flag in order to win. Another game has the same objective as the first will except there is only one flag that is situated in the center of the field and each team tries to be the first to capture the flag. The other way of winning (other than capturing the flag) would be to eliminate all of the players of the opposing team
with paintball hits.

The game can be played on a small scale which is called recreational paintball. This is the original way it was played in a wooded area and can be played in an area the size of a basketball court. If there are many people who want to play and the field is a large area the game is called a scenario. The largest scenario ever was in 2005 on a 700 acre parcel of land and with 3,000 participants.

Paintball is one game that is gaining ground in the sports world. According to a study done in 2005, it is ranked as the third most popular extreme game in the world. It is considered a safe sport as long as proper equipment is used and people comply with the rules. People who are interested can sign up at the local club and join in the fun.

This e-book will show you everything you need to know about paintball and how to be the best paintball player out there! ... Read more
