Product Description
Riders of all levels can now learn the key knowledge, tools and techniques needed to control kite power. Products, like the Multiple Line Lengths (MLL), give riders the ability to dramatically alter power in the kite by decreasing the length of the line.Techniques like the Upwind Board-Drag (UBD) on the K.I.T.E.S. Entry Level Line lengths make it easy for riders to travel upwind while learning their wing. Entry-level riders can now spend hours in the water discovering how and why their kite works. In the past this valuable time was wasted walking back up the beach after three to five minutes of intimidating water time.

Advanced riders chase wind, when they find it, they need the K.I.T.E.S. Multiple Line Lengths (MLL) to manage it’s power.Without a doubt, the most serious issue in kiteboarding is that virtually all riders launch on advanced line lengths all the time, not understanding that line length makes a huge difference in kite power.

Finally, real answers to safe riding. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Better than nothing
If I lived near the ocean and was primarily interested in kiteboarding on the ocean, this would be an OK book. However, since I live in MN and am primarily interested in snow-kiting, it is of limited relevance.

2-0 out of 5 stars Seems Unedited Maybe Printed In A Basement
This book is a big disappointment. The editing, quality and overall layout reeks of a small batch printing (the type where anyone w/ $300 can print anything).

The typos are to the point where they seem to give misleading information. At times the typo contradicts the author and says the opposite of what he said before.

I think this book can hurt a beginner, it is negligent to be sold in this condition and the author should be scared he will be sued by some dead kiter's family

What is funny is that he almost immediately opens the book telling the reader that "most readers only read the two pages of a book" and 1 page away is this typo:"...depending on com-"

Now I'm not sure what the rest of that sentence is supposed to be and I wonder, as an inexperienced kiter that bought a how to guide, if I am going to need that information?

The general writing is self important and much of it just feels like "fill". There are sections on where to go in Maui - which seems great if you actually live there, but for the other 99.9 % of kiters you are merely buying a local guidebook.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Kitecoarding Book
I guess I'm luckier than most as John is personally teaching me to kitesurf in his Method Lodge School in Kite Beach, Dominican Republic, where he currently resides and teaches. He gave me his book to read and follow and I see why he has the most successful school in the Country. I see the difference between his method and those of the other schools and this is reflected in his book. Thanks John for introducing me to this great sport. His book is the next best thing to having him as your personal instructor but his method is clearly the best out there. Trust me, I see the difference every day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Common sense, uncommon method
This book is by far the most helpful material I have ever been able to get my hands on.As a relativly new kiteboarder, I wish I had been able to find this book earlier.
This method, briefly, has the beginner start 100% safe & confident and then gradually extend the lines out to where the power & potential danger & frustration is.This was beginners learn from their mistakes without danger, frustration & hazards for other kiters(crashing kites, crossing lines, & out of control riders)
I can't believe that more kiteboarding schools don't do this already.Watching beginners crash their kite, cross their lines, and swallow water reminds me of my 1st steps.I believe they would have been eliminated had I read this book earlier. Now I'm reading the steps in how to jump, and do tricks so I'm glad I bought it.
Great book, thank you for getting your ideas down on paper for the rest of us.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book for beginners
Great book, a new method is taught by the writer. With this method, learning
kitesurfing and kiteboarding is much more safer. I highly recommend it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Vovo dos manuais de instrucao do kitesurf
Desatualizado.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not satisfied
I found this book superficial.I bought it to learn how to kitesurf but the section was only about 40 pages without much technical details. The other sections are about land, snow, etc... Also to much about the history of kiting which in my opinion shouldn't take this many pages in a technical manual.'The "ultimate" book of power kiting and kiteboarding', not really.I returned the book the same day, and looked for a better one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice kitesurfing guide

1-0 out of 5 stars lengthy but lacking
Unfortunately this doesnt give enough basics and shows very little structure in its outline.Few diagramns that are really instructional.
Strong on safety and danger but little direction to the beginning kitesurfer.
It seemed more like the dialogue that a instructorwouldgive you through a series of lessons and in that context would most likely be excellent.
I have been kitesurfing for about 5 months and can ride a board in and out - so I'm still learning alot but found the thrust ofthe book not really helpful.
With the amount of experience the author has,he would have a huge lot more to offer and perhaps may do next time.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kiteboarding's "A litte too" Simple Plan
I had a season of kiteboarding under my belt when I picked up this book. By the end of the season, I could maintain upwind ground pretty well, but actually getting upwind was still elusive. I had been reading Kiteboarding magazines feverishly and was excited to see someone had written a whole book on the subject. I was hoping for some good tips in such a concentrated source of kiteboarding knowledge.
I don't know how much money it takes to write a book that will be sold to such a small niche audience, but it seems that costs were contained by sending the book to press without it being edited. Their were-many annoying punctuation, errors not too mention sentences that were entirely to long with little continuity between paragraphs and peppered with a lot of slang probably in efforts of making the book cool. I didn't even know that this kind of thing bothers me until I picked up this book -probably because everything else I read HAS been edited fairly well.

I'm guessing that another cost cutting measure was the money saved not hiring a graphic designer to create diagrams that should have accompanied detailed descriptions of body position, wind direction and kite steering maneuvers. There were plenty of times that after I read a description of something I already knew how to do well I thought to myself "I can't see how a beginner will make ANY SENSE of this!" In the book's 278 pages I counted a whopping less than 10 diagrams.

Anyway with all that being said, if anything the book is comprehensive. It does cover quite a bit of material and the author's style is entertaining. And I did pick up some tid bits of knowledge after all. If you wanted to get into kiteboarding you may still like to have this book around. With any luck, you might even find a future "volume II" that flows well and includes many clarifying illustrations.

Product Description
This econometric study covers the world outlook for kiteboarding kites across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for kiteboarding kites. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

Product Description
This econometric study covers the latent demand outlook for kiteboarding kites across the regions of Greater China, including provinces, autonomous regions (Guangxi, Nei Mongol, Ningxia, Xinjiang, Xizang - Tibet), municipalities (Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, and Tianjin), special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macau), and Taiwan (all hereafter referred to as "regions"). Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,100 cities in Greater China. For each major city in question, the percent share the city is of the region and of Greater China is reported. Each major city is defined as an area of "economic population", as opposed to the demographic population within a legal geographic boundary. For many cities, the economic population is much larger that the population within the city limits; this is especially true for the cities of the Western regions. For the coastal regions, cities which are close to other major cities or which represent, by themselves, a high percent of the regional population, actual city-level population is closer to the economic population (e.g. in Beijing). Based on this "economic" definition of population, comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city's marketing and distribution value vis-a-vis others. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

Product Description
This report was created for global strategic planners who cannot be content with traditional methods of segmenting world markets. With the advent of a "borderless world", cities become a more important criteria in prioritizing markets, as opposed to regions, continents, or countries. This report covers the top 2000 cities in over 200 countries. It does so by reporting the estimated market size (in terms of latent demand) for each major city of the world. It then ranks these cities and reports them in terms of their size as a percent of the country where they are located, their geographic region (e.g. Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Latin America), and the total world market.

In performing various economic analyses for its clients, I have been occasionally asked to investigate the market potential for various products and services across cities. The purpose of the studies is to understand the density of demand within a country and the extent to which a city might be used as a point of distribution within its region. From an economic perspective, however, a city does not represent a population within rigid geographical boundaries. To an economist or strategic planner, a city represents an area of dominant influence over markets in adjacent areas. This influence varies from one industry to another, but also from one period of time to another.

In what follows, I summarize the economic potential for the world's major cities for "kiteboarding kites" for the year 2009. The goal of this report is to report my findings on the real economic potential, or what an economist calls the latent demand, represented by a city when defined as an area of dominant influence. The reader needs to realize that latent demand may or may not represent real sales. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Kid's Book!!!
This book is utterly useless as an instructional book or really any other purpose.

This book is best described as an illustrated child's book...sort of like "Richard Scarey's Big Book of Kiteboarding". A child of 5 might
find this book interesting, but I can't see anyone else getting anything at all from its utterly simple description of the sport.

Let me sum up: THERE IS NO USEFUL INFORMATION IN THIS BOOK!!!

The book seems to be a thinly veiled excuse to separate people from their money. This book should not be sold in the Kiteboarding section, but should only be listed under "Children's Books". Even then it's pretty pointless.

For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it's state and of the United States is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-a-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each state and city, latent demand estimates are created for kiteboarding kites. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved.

WHAT IS LATENT DEMAND AND THE P.I.E.?

The concept of latent demand is rather subtle. The term latent typically refers to something that is dormant, not observable or not yet realized. Demand is the notion of an economic quantity that a target population or market requires under different assumptions of price, quality, and distribution, among other factors. Latent demand, therefore, is commonly defined by economists as the industry earnings of a market when that market becomes accessible and attractive to serve by competing firms. It is a measure, therefore, of potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) or total revenues (not profit) if a market is served in an efficient manner. It is typically expressed as the total revenues potentially extracted by firms. The “market” is defined at a given level in the value chain. There can be latent demand at the retail level, at the wholesale level, the manufacturing level, and the raw materials level (the P.I.E. of higher levels of the value chain being always smaller than the P.I.E. of levels at lower levels of the same value chain, assuming all levels maintain minimum profitability).

The latent demand for kiteboarding kites is not actual or historic sales. Nor is latent demand future sales. In fact, latent demand can be lower or higher than actual sales if a market is inefficient (i.e. not representative of relatively competitive levels). Inefficiencies arise from a number of factors, including the lack of international openness, cultural barriers to consumption, regulations, and cartel-like behavior on the part of firms. In general, however, latent demand is typically larger than actual sales in a country market.

For reasons discussed later, this report does not consider the notion of “unit quantities”, only total latent revenues (i.e. a calculation of price times quantity is never made, though one is implied). The units used in this report are U.S. dollars not adjusted for... ... Read more

Product Description
This study covers the latent demand outlook for kiteboarding kites across the prefectures and cities of Japan. Latent demand (in millions of U.S. dollars), or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) estimates are given across some 1,000 cities in Japan. For each city in question, the percent share the city is of it’s prefecture and of Japan is reported. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a city vis-à-vis others. This statistical approach can prove very useful to distribution and/or sales force strategies. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each prefecture and city, latent demand estimates are created for kiteboarding kites. Product Description
This study covers the world outlook for kiteboarding kites across more than 200 countries.
