this is the best book in the world. im unrated because i just joined pc but im a great horsewoman. very informative.....

fabulous overview of advanced material
this book is a great overview and introduction to advanced horsemanship and riding.it covers lunging, teeth, systems of the horse and anatomy, stable management, pasture care and fencing, teaching, young horses, trailer care, position on the flat and over fences, basic training principles, conformation and lameness, diseases and prevention, tack, and parasites.the best part is the charts or different diseases, parasites, and drugs with causes, symptoms, treatment, etc..it also has charts for conformation and unsoundnesses with the relationship between the two.i would also recommend the intermediate "c" manual as a additional reference - it works well in conjunction with this one.overall, the "a" manual provides a great overview of advanced horsemanship and is a fantastic reference covering many topics for the horse owner and is readable.it's much cheaper and usually better than comparable books.

USPC Manual B, HA, and A
This book has helped me so much! I began reading and studying it at age 10 when I was still a C2, and throughout my ratings and progression it has answered my endless questions and supplemented the material from the D and C manuals. While the B, HA, and A manual is very informative, it should only be read by those who can thoroughly comprehend and extract inportant information from the text. I was alwaysa very mature reader, but at times I even had to reread pages to be sure I understood correctly. This book has helped me through my B, HA, and just recently helped me pass my A, so this book is the best way to go to becoming a good rider!

Teaches you about the horse and how to manage a horse.
This book is great for learning about the body systems of a horse.It also briefly explains how to manage a stable with things such as how to make a stall have good drinage. It is the best book to get if you want to meet therequirements of Pony Club levels A, HA, or B. But I recommend getting thisbook only if you are at the advanced levels in riding and horsemanshipbecause otherwise you will find that the book overwhelms you withinformation.I may suggest that people buying this book should considerbuying Pony Club Manuals on levels C and D before or perhaps in addition tothis manual.Overall, a good book for learning about the horse.

Excellent book for advanced horsemen of any age.
This is a great follow-on to the first two volumes of the USPC manuals. Together, they are the best "curriculum" on horsemanship available, bar none. (I say that, owning 900 horse books! The three USPC Manuals are the most useful of all.) As another reviewer said, it's not "complete"--one should read the first two volumes, first, as, like the USPC Standards of Proficiency, the Manuals build upon each other. Great Asset in Helping Horses
I am about to be certified as an Equine practitioner in Bowtech Bowen Therapy in Australia, and I was adding anything of value to my research in equine anatomy and muscular structure for my exams and study.
I had a quick look at what this book had to offer and found that it is very good in outlining problems and solutions in the equine anatomy.I have only quickly flicked through it since receiving it a couple of weeks ago as I don't have the time at the moment to read it more thoroughly but from what I have seen so far, I will be able to utilise this book in future studies and work.
A wonderful asset in my equine library.

Very good book for study
I purchased this book to 'assist' me in my studies to become an Equine Massage Therapist. Turns out, I was scammed by the school I enrolled in! They were using this book as thier own curriculum! I now use this book solely and have learned more from it than I have any other sources!

Guns & Guanacos
Lady Florence is something of an enigma - in some respects, very much a woman of her time, with all the prejudices and highhandedness you might expect of a Victorian aristocrat.However, she is clearly very unusual too as she sails off to a wild and largely unexplored Patagonia, with an all male party and lives primarilyoff the land for several weeks.Food is acquired mainly by hunting, and clearly proficiency gained whilst foxhunting with the gentry in the English Shires stands her in good stead.Many guanacos, ostrich,puma, deer and game birdsare felled with gusto and without sentiment - she's never happy unless a couple of firearms are within easy reach so she can pop off another.It was all a bit bloody for me. But there were some fantastic stories, including galloping head on into a bush fire (God only knows how the horses survived) and a hair-raising and near-catastrophic race down the side of a mountain in a horse and wagon steered by an overenthusiastic local.I was moved to read the book having just returned from trekking the Torres del Paine circuit, but Lady Florence's Patagonian experience and mine were rather different. I 'roughed' it in a down sleeping bag, (she made do with damp guanaco furs). Athermarest protected me from stony ground (Lady Florence lay directly on the earth).At the end of the day I usually enjoyed a hearty hostel meal (her ladyship had to set to work stripping down an ostrich and roasting up a gristly wing on an open fire).Patagonia is certainly far less of a wilderness now -whilst I thought I was quite courageous trekking the John Garner pass,clearly this would have been like a walk in the park to the Dixie party . It's a fascinating insight into some aspects of the Victorian age, though it is a bit repetitive, especially as far as the hunting goes.Lady Dixie doesn't give much away about herself or her party (in this sense she maintains the decorum of a Victoria lady);but if you are thinking of travelling to Patagonia, or have already been, I am sure you will appreciate your Goretex all the more having read this.

"Man the Destroyer" Hunting in Patagonia
The Victorian era produced not only fainthearted boudoir queens with lace hankies, but also some of the most amazing and hard-bitten women travelers who ever lived. This is in many ways a companion volume to Julius Beerbohm's WANDERINGS IN PATAGONIA. Where Beerbohm was a rank amateur who had a knack for encountering bad luck, Lady Florence Dixie was like the up-to-date Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court. She organized a large hunting party, threw money around for horses, supplies, and guides, and even engaged "Mr. B" to join the party.

At first, Lady Florence comes across as a rich, thoughtless horsefaced boor. To more easily catch guanacos and ostriches (actually, Darwin's rheas), she and her party think nothing of starting brush fires and using beaters to drive the game into their guns' ranges. Starting at Punta Arenas, Chile (then called Sandy Point by the British), she and her party ride along the Magellan Channel and cut inland, heading ultimately towards the eastern escarpment of the Andes, probably southwest of El Calafate. (Unfortunately, there is no map in the book to indicate their progress.)

Once she kills a small ostrich: "The flesh of the young ostrich is not very palatable, so we left the bird, taking only its legs, which make very nice handles for umbrellas and whips." Of Patagonian foxes: "I resolved to make a collection of their skins, and carry them back to England to be made up into rugs and other useful articles."

Amid the stark beauty of the mountains, Lady Florence suffers a change of heart. She shoots a gigantic buck which puts up such a fight for life that she relents finally killing him. Even the guanacos have an astounding amount of fight in them: "Examining him, we found the bullet had entered his side, and passing through the lungs and lights, had lodged near the spine; and yet, thus severely wounded, he had gone quite ten miles at a cracking pace!"

It is a sadder and more likeable Lady Florence who turns around and heads back to Punta Arenas. At this point, they encounter their own run of bad luck. They run out of food, the pack horse that has all their remaining biscuits runs off, all their horses suddenly disappear and have to be tracked down, and finally they appear back in civilization bedraggled and somewhat chastened.

A real page-turner, RIDING ACROSS PATAGONIA is one of those strange books that show the writer's change of heart for the better. At one point, she even becomes disgusted with the concept of "man the destroyer." ... Read more

A Good Intro and Starting OutBook!
This book is meant to introduce average everyday riders to the dressage world away from the "dressage queen" influence. The decriptions are clear and I feel Moira has demystified the basic idea of dressage from being a snooty sport to a good idea on how to get started in the dressage world as an average joe with a regular horse. The idea is that dressage training can benefit every horse and rider. The book shows how anyone from any of the riding disciplines can access dressage to either change training, cross train or enhance what they already do. I started dressage to help my horse focus in hunters, and ended up hooked. I wish the book had been around at the time, because I would of avoided some mistakes in my first shows with dress and procedures!It works- I am a bit biased, as my horse Red is on page 60- an arabian that switched from hunters to be a rather decent dressage horse. He won the class that we exited out of in the picture!Most of the people in the book are everyday people like me, on regular horses, enjoying a sport that only improves your horse's mind and training abilities. I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to check dressage out and try a few tests!

All of my beginning dressage students have this book on their shelves as part of my required reading.I chose it because it is a good basic overall for the novice rider.Moira Harris explains everything you need to know inan easy to understand manner.Many dressage books are too much for abeginner and may in fact frustrate instead of educate.DRESSAGE BY THELETTERS is the perfect way to get your feet wet. Anyone who reads the book jacket will understand that this book is not supposed to TRAIN you or your horse to do dressage--it's all about getting started inthe sport. I used to ride western before I got interested in dressage, butI didn't have a teacher right away, nor did I really know where to begin.This book really served as an excellentreference tool for the things thetraining books DON'T say. I found a good dressage teacher as a result ofthe "riding instructor" chapter, and I to this day still use theshow checklists in the "preparing for your first show" chapter.Look, there are plenty of books out there by the Masters of the sport forthose interested in learning how to do a half-pass or shoulder-in. But howmany tell you the right way to behave at a dressage show, or what adressage clinic is really like? This book IS for the novice, just as itsays on the cover. Another Look
A well illustrated book that gives a little closer look at the knots used in packing.

A book so good I own two (-:
I am not kidding, this is the best book I have found on packing, and I have read as many as I have been been able to find. I own two copies, one for my home, and one for the trail. I go packing for 10 days to two weeks every summer, and even after many years, I find carrying this book very handy. Once a year is not enough, for me at least, to remember all the knots I may need. I pull out this book whenever I need to tie a Bowline. The easy to understand pictures, and advice are invaluable. Especially to people who don't have a lot of experience packing. Lots of great advice, you can pick and choose what pertains to your situation. If you buy this book, I don't believe you will regret it.

THE HORSE PACKER'S BIBLE

The old clichéd saying, "A Picture is worth a Thousand Words!" is very true, especially when considering such things as knots, hitches and lashings. And the saying certainly holds for HORSE PACKING IN PICTURES by Francis W. Davis. This book, written over thirty years ago, continues to be the standard when it comes to learn the ropes (and, yes, that pun was entirely intended!) about horse packing and the mechanics of making it effectively and easily happen. Handsomely illustrated, HORSE PACKING... will become your bible for getting from here to there with your packhorse in tow. From getting started, to choosing the right pack animal, to making your own packing gear, HORSE PACKING... is the book you need.

Good luck finding one, though. The book is currently out of print and I have seen them priced as high as $60 online. Your best bet is to find a used copy on Amazon.

Easy to follow, great illustrations, perfect for beginners!
I just got my hands on this book and can't wait to get some rope and try knots and hitches. The drawings are great and it is easy to make sense of what many other books try to put into words.The drawings are skillfullydone to illustrate exactly what is being taught.It says in the backof the book, that this manual was originally intended and used as atextbook for people taking packing classes. Therefore it was designed forpractical learning.I'm sure once I finally get out into the woods, thatthis valuable reference book will be muddy, tattered, dog-eared, but wellpacked into my mules panniers!I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyoneinterested in packing, especially those just starting out!

A WOW of an addition to my Leland Library
So there I was, curled up in bed thinking I'd just take a "quick peek" at my newly acquired copy of Rescue Me. Twenty chapters later, it was 1:30 a.m. and I was still goggle-eyed awake, ghosting alongside Julia as she choreographed her tenuous escape and rebirth.

I love everything about this book - the synergy of the dual spouse abuse/animal abuse themes, the cliff-hang perils of Julia's escape and self-reinvention, the development of the supporting "cast," the flow of dialogue, the balance between action and contemplation, the conflict and character development, and especially the bell of truth rung over some things we might tend to marginalize as "not-our-concerns." Toni obviously applied meticulous research to all aspects of this piece, from the abuse issues right down to the details involved in acquiring false ID. As a result, she has not only gifted us with a gripping tale peopled with appealing characters and critters, but also taught us a lot along the way. Decidedly a two-thumbs-up! And heartfelt thank you!

She Just May Rescue Herself..
This was better than I expected. I was half afraid it would be fluffy or too romancy, but to my great pleasure, it was a serious and suspenseful read that addressed two very important issues while at the same time offering helpful advice and knowledge on both issues: escaping domestic abuse and the abuse and neglect of horses and how you can help.

Julia is married to very rich, but very abusive man. Stephen treats Julia like a possession and not a very prized one at that. He has jealous rages, beats her, verbally abuses her, monitors her every move and then aplogizes for it all, buying her trinkets or jewels just to begin the cycle all over again. Finally, Julia has enough and in the middle of an Oklahoma horse competition, she takes a tote bag full of necessities, hides behind a pair of sunglasses and boards the nearest bus. The bus takes her Illinois where she starts a new identity, a new job, rents an apartment, and looks over her shoulder constantly.

Julia learns fast that the only way to be safe from her past and Stephen is to keep to herself. It's easier to keep people at arm's length than to constantly fabricate lies to tell them. When a handsome and mysterious man comes into her life tho, Julia begans to doubt her choice. Was running away really the answer or should she have stood up to Stephen and did things legal? Does she want to start a new relationship on a pack of lies or allow this sexy former law enforcement officer, Dillon, into her heart and to possibly help her?

While Julia ponders her choices, Stephen is searching for her, Dillon is chasing trucks full of caskets and counterfeit money, and Julia discovers a horse rescue farm. Some of the situations these horses come from are appalling and they need to do just as much healing as Julia does. Maybe they can heal together.

The Author tackles difficult social issues, while delivering a fast paced, hold your attention, novel.
Rescue me enters the realm of abuse, both spousal and animal.Topics that are difficult to cope with, and not what you would expect to be the focus of a novel.

The author does an incredible job in dealing with both topics, while developing her usual unorthodox romantic plot.Toni Leland continues to integrate mystery and intrigue into a romantic novel.I tend to shy away from a genre expressed as "romantic", but Toni Leland's "romance novels" have a pace and plot rivaling the mystery/ whodunit genres that I am more comfortable with.

Rescue Me tells the story of an abused spouse who is an accomplished and recognized rider who takes refuge in her riding and her champion mare.As the plot builds, Julia must make some very difficult decisions that pit her personal well-being against her passion for her equestrian life style.

I found Rescue Me to be a fast paced and attention holding read.I continue to enjoy Toni Leland's writing and believe that Rescue Me is her best yet.

Excellent plot with tough subject matter
When asked to read and review a book by this author, I was drawn several times to this title because of the description. It's not something you particularly WANT to read about, but it's reality and it's close to my heart. You see, my mother is a survivor of domestic violence and we had a horse growing up. So that's where I'm coming from in this review.

The author does a fabulous job of weaving the plight of a domestic abuse victim with the plight of abused and neglected horses. Being inside of Julia's head is both intriguing and frightening. The story moves quickly as Julia runs away from that life into a life much different. There's a little romance, nothing overtly sexual (no heaving bosoms, thank goodness!), and a lot of heart.

The storyline about the horse rescue broke my heart. I guess I knew it happens. People are mean or get in over their head or the horse gets old and is no longer as "fun" or gets too expensive. I suppose the same is true with all pet rescue groups, but with horses, the sheer size and cost I imagine becomes a larger problem. I really did enjoy following Julia's research and experiences. While I haven't researched it myself, it rings true of what goes on inside of a rescue group - the constant shortage of funds having top billing.

The book itself is well written. The author does a wonderful job of keeping the story going while not revealing all of the information at once. I liked that each main character had a backstory and she was able to reveal bits and pieces of it at a time.

In typical fashion, I didn't really care for the ending. I guess I wanted more out of it. Having said that, if I were the author, I'm not sure I would have changed it. Again, it rang true. Abuse victims sometimes overestimate the power of their abuser and underestimate the power of themselves. I also liked that we were left to use our imagination a bit as far as what path(s) the characters may choose next.

This is a good book for those that are looking for something easy to physically read but want to learn a little something in the process. It kept me up until 2am, so I'd say it gets my recommendation. ... Read more

Excellent horsemanship guide
This book provides not only excellent advice to riders venturing out for their first trail ride but also provides insight into more challenging rides, including horse camping, endurance racing, and trail trials.It is a complete horsemanship manual - including valuable information on horse health, nutrition, training, and conditioning.This would be a very useful addition to any horseman's library.

BASIC BEST!

A must have for advanced english riders (soon to be)
If you do ride or want to ride in the advanced level this is the book for you. This book explains everything you need to know once you are ready to start with the double bridle.
Do not start until you and your horse know every aspect from the book "The principles of riding" though.

I bought the german edition 12 years ago. I bought the english edition last year. It is based on the comletely revised german edition from 1997. I use this book over and over...

Few people recall today that Germany and Afghanistan were once close friends, allied in their mutual distrust of the then still-powerful British Empire. Within the space of a few years the British had beaten the Germans on the battlefields of the First World War. A few years later, these same English victors used their military machine, complete with state-of-the-art airplanes based in India, to bomb their Afghan neighbors into political submission.

Tahoe Rim Trail Guide
"The Tahoe Rim Trail: A Complete Guide for Hikers, Mountain Bikers, and Equestrians" The book gives information we needed and used with lots of details about the types of vegetation, water availability, elevation gains and losses, mileage, etc.We did not always agree with the writer's opinions about the trail, but the important information that made our 167 mile backpacking trip successful made it an excellent resource. We carried it on the backpacking trip around Lake Tahoe's peaks, valleys, and ridges, used it throughout the trip, and it was worth the extra weight!

The Tahoe Rim Trail
I am pleased with my purchase. My book arrived quickly and in as stated condition.The book contained all the information I need to plan my up coming trip.I will keep it with me on the trail as a reference to flora, fauna and trail head information.

"A horse believes that everything will eat it until proved otherwise"
The author clearly knows and loves the area; a good thing because The Tahoe Rim Trail is the only guide out on this recently completed trail. Both planning and take with you information are in the book. When you are ready to go, just cut out the trail descriptions to take with you. I would also buy a Tom Harrison Lake Tahoe Recreation Map. The book's maps are good, but not convenient for map and compass work.

About the review lead: I was just reading along, checking out the background information chapter, and the flora and fauna chapter, then hit the Lets All Get Along chapter. On this multiuse trail, hiker, horse and mountain bike interactions are common. The Sharing the Trail With Horses section led off with "A horse believes that everything will eat it until proved otherwise"(from Sonja Willits, TRT Newsletter). That phrase made me smile and instantly simplified the horse-hiker rules I have heard. It is now engraved in my brain. I - a non-biking hiker, appreciated the Dirt User's Hints (for bikers). The chapter was rounded out by the Inconsiderate Backcountry Blockhead rules for how to be a bad hiker.

Good information in Weather, Water and When to Go chapter. This is where the author's local knowledge is obvious. Snow is a factor for many months, Lightning for others. Some of the paragraph leads: Elevation, Which Way the Mountain Faces, Lee of the Mountains:..., The Wind..., Dehydration, Hypothermia, Avalanches.

The Users Guide chapter has info on, for example: what to take, where to fish, where to take the kids, lists the trailheads, and is addressed to horse people and mountain bikers as well as hikers.

The meat of the book is the Trail Descriptions chapter. The author has organized it so that the entire 165 trail can be completed in eight trips varying from about 15 to 30 miles each. Each trip write-up follows the same format, a Tom Harrison map of the route, paragraph(s) on Difficulty, Best Seasons (when to go), Highlights, Heads Up! (cautions - water, etc.), Tips for Mountain Bikers, Getting There, and the actual Trail Description.

The Trail descriptions are detailed - example: turns north and in .8 mile, switchbacks down... Sidetrips to interesting places off the TRT are boxed off from the normal text. Finally, Alternative Routes are discussed.I am familiar with the 50 mile part of the TRT that coincides with the Pacific Crest Trail and found those descriptions quite accurate.

After the trail description chapter is one on Other Tahoe Area Attractions where the author has brief information of some of his favorite trails in the area. Not the end of the book though. The book winds up with information on Resources, Recommended Reading, Mileage Tables, Tim's Top 5 Places...

Nice job on the book design - black and white photos, maps, white space and illustrations make the book pleasant reading compared to most trail guides.

An essential resource for anyone planning to hike the TRT.

Not just the perfect guidebook
Having just completed the Tahoe Rim Trail I must say that Tim Hauserman's book was, as many Appalachian Trail hikers say of Bryson's Into the Woods, my bible.The book was great for two reasons.

First and foremost, it is a truly comprehensive guide that allowed me to carefully plan my trip.For each segment he includes useful maps, dead-on descriptions of each segment, directions to your start and end points, difficulty assessments and tips for mountain bikers.The highlights described for each section give the reader just enough to whet one's pallet and make them go out and hike.His suggestions for side trips are a great way to plan longer more enjoyable journeys into the glorious Tahoe surroundings.

Tim's way of writing is both humorous and informative.This unique style makes his opening chapters a fun and pleasant read.In covering a wide array of topics such as trail history, flora and fauna, when to go and the not to be missed "getting horsey on the TRT" Tim gives his readers a taste of Lake Tahoe, back country culture, and crucial tips.

The books only flaw is that weighing in at 15 oz. no thru-hiker would actually want to carry it with them on the trail. However for a day hiker I recommend taking out the relevant pages, or perhaps making photocopies.

All in all I think this book is well worth it.In addition to being the perfect guidebook, it is a great read.

Perhaps too much of a good thing
It's nice to see Tim Hauserman come out with a guide to the Tahoe Rim Trail so soon after the trail's completion.The Tahoe Rim Trail is destined to be one of the elite distance hikes in the West, right next to the High Sierra Trail, John Muir Trail, and Skyline to the Sea Trail.Having been to the Tahoe area, and recently finished reading the guide, I am already planning a thru hike on the trail for next year.

This book has a number of excellent features.The use of Tom Harrison maps (and the expertise of Jeffrey Schaffer) in the trail description chapters give the prospective hiker far more detail than typical guidebooks do.This is especially important in planning the logistics of a 150+ mile hike.In addition, Hauserman has done an excellent job of breaking the trail down into managable day-hikes and/or overnight trips.Those who, like my wife, want to complete the trail in 2 or more summers will find his organization useful.Finally, the trail description of each segement begins with helpful notes on water sources, camping locations, etc, which will greatly assist both thru hikers and those sampling the trail on a day hike.

If the book has a problem, it is the amount of space it devotes to introducing the Tahoe area and the trail.Less than half the book is devoted to trail description.While the rest of the material made for fascinating, and sometimes funny reading (Hauserman has a great sense of humor) it does add to the weight of the book.I appreciate this in my armchair, but will undoubtably be less happy with it on the trail.Other Wilderness Press Guides to similar sized trails are more compact (and still have great maps).Despite this small criticism, the book is an excellent buy and Hauserman has done a good job summarizing what will surely be one of the premier hiking trails in the years to come. ... Ok but could be MUCH better
I will be the first toi admit that this is a needed book if you are planning a long distance AZT hike.However, this book could be much more helpful that it is.In comparison to great guidebooks such as the ones covering the Pacific Crest Trail and the Colorado Trail, this book is a stinker.Here are my gripes:

-The trail descriptions are fairly detailed but would highly benefit from "data points" such as those found the PCT guidebooks.These things make planning a hike, especially one where distances between water sources are a concern, much easier.

-The book needs maps.The maps it has are too vague, you will need to shell out more money in order to get maps that work.

-The book breaks sections that are already short into even tinier sections.In some cases as short as four miles.This seems pointless to me.

-Large sections of the book are unfinished.The unfinished sections of the book make up the majority of the trail, actually.This includes large sections of trail that have not been built yet, which is understandable.However, I find it extremely annoying that the authors failed to give a description for trail sections that are built, but just haven't been signed as the AZT yet.For example, the AZT through the Mazatzal Wilderness uses previously built trails and roads exclusivly.It would have been very easy for the authors to hike these sections and give a description of them, but they have failed to do that.They don't even give basic information like water sources.This means that besides buying this book you are going to have to dig for a ton of information.

Personally, I'd rather get the info sheets from the ATA.

On the Arizona trail
For me, a relative newcomer to Arizona and a horseback trail rider, this book is invaluable.Not only does it get me to the trailheads with accuracy, and into magnificent country, but the authors share so very muchmore.This book is a treasure!

A Fun Ride
Ms. Slaughter provides valuable moral support for women who choose to let the world function without them for a few hours as they claim a few hours at the barn for themselves. Her description of children whining about casserole nights when Mom's at the barn will hit home with many, I suspect. I do wish she'd given a nod to the issues facing childless adult women - our careers create similar demands - but that's picking a nit.

The deadly serious equestrienne might be turned off by the recipes, yoga suggestions, funny poem, and summary descriptions of each of the riding disciplines. I found myself rather charmed, in spite of myself, and really enjoyed the pictures of women riders enjoying each other's company. Inspiring!

The five foot oxer between this book and five stars is a lack of serious exploration of psychological differences that pose unique challenges for women riders - or, for that matter, give them unique abilities. If you're seeking this depth of analysis, The Woman Equestrian is not for you.

But if you want to feel good about getting out of the house and onto your horse, and feel like you have made a new riding friend, you'll enjoy this book.

An important and practical contribution
Expertly written by Jane R. Slaughter (a free-lance published journalist for "The Chronicle of the Horse" magazine), The Woman Equestrian is an invaluable and thoroughly "student friendly" guide to horse riding for females of all ages and experience levels concerned with the care of, and interaction with, their equine companions. Individual chapters cover far more than the simple mechanics of how to ride a horse; they also provide informed and informative information on stable care, specific horse disciplines ranging from hunting to polo to show jumping and more, as well as how to properly get oneself into horse-riding shape.
