This book is not for beginners
Interesting and pretty - a review of the basics
An overview of the German Training Scale Each element of the training scale is explained thoroughly. Potential problems are addressed with practical, easy solutions. By absorbing this information, you'll find that dressage is surprisingly simple...hence the title. Beware, though, that there is no intense detail as there is in other dressage books. For example, you won't find a 5-page description of the half-halt. You won't find a step-by-step instruction of the half-pass. You will, however, realze the importance of working by a system and you will see it reflecting on your horse. A beautifully bound book and a joy to flip through with its numerous color photos. Definitely worth reading regardless of your level.

Editorial Review Product Description Author Bill Woods has put together dozens of stories and anecdotes that elucidate, illustrate, and demystify hoary dressage principles while managing to skewer the sacred bovines---both two and four legged---of our sport. Read his slightly off center takes on perennially burdensome topics like attention, self carriage, and connection. Mix in the hits and near misses of insight that a lifetime of teaching brings. Add in 40 years of weirdness gleaned from scribes, riders, teachers, and unindicted dressage co-conspirators, and you get a book that will bring a pile of smiles, a bucket of chuckles, and even an occasional spasmodic rotflol episode. Professional, Passionate, Great Buy
Terrific insight into dressage
Valuable book
Fabulous dressage book
Highly technical, thoroughly detailed The 300 pages in this book cover a huge range of topics. Always the philosopher, Mr. de Kunffy writes in thick yet imaginative language, provoking just the right mental pictures. Everything is covered from the rider's seat to competition preparation. You will gain a greater, fuller understanding of correct seat and aids, correct flexion of the horse, lateral work, improving the basic gaits, and further schooling to higher level dressage. He also discusses various equipment and their uses. This is an extremely valuable guide to any serious rider. Beware, though, that it's not for a beginner. ... Read more |

Editorial Review Product Description What is the correct way to ride a renvers? Why does my horse keep losing its rhythm during the walk pirouette? And how do I prepare my horse for the optimum flying change at the canter? Dressage riders from medium level onward continue to ask themselves these questions—often without finding satisfactory answers. This book deals extensively with the most important dressage movements from medium level to Grand Prix. It describes comprehensively and in detail their execution, typical faults, and effective methods for correction of these faults. In particular, it also explains the theoretical background of each lesson and illustrates its function for the schooling of a horse in classical dressage. |
