I really enjoyed the class training at Koo Self Defense, there were many different types of classes and drills. All of the training was done on focus mitts and shields using realistic movements. The hitting power of the all of the students was incredible, some of them only had been training for a few months. I earned my Black Belt in December 1996 and my 1st Degree Black Belt in April 1997. In August 2000, I went to Master Koo's school for two weeks of intensive training. The workout is even better than it was three years ago. Kick boxing aerobics and jump rope are now a part of the warm up and there are more focus mitt and shield drills. Master Koo has truly created a great program for self defense training and fitness. I really enjoyed the time I spent there and look forward to returning in the future. Commonly asked questions about Koo Self Defense training.

However, Koo Self Defence's system of training which has been developed by Master JP Kwoo and Master Roger Koo [ have 50+ years of experience in martial arts between them] have begun to develop their own techniques and individual style, which has revolutionized and changed the style of martial arts training. This, can therefore, provide the student with 'knockout hitting power' - which with regular training can be developed within a matter of weeks or months. We have schools based in Maidstone, Acton and Woking and we are currently looking for instructors to train with us in KSD. Location does not matter, but commitment and determination to succeed in becoming a KSD instructor is. The usual qualifications will be expected, Bodan levels above only need apply. We will ensure you success in your KSD School and regular training will be provided.

Extractions: I was born and raised on the South side of Atlanta. My older brothers taught me to fight when I was 5-6 years old. I was not very good. I lost most of the fights. I tried boxing Golden Gloves one year in High School. I had good speed but lost due to a lack of power. None the less, I always had confidence and felt I owned my own personal space. I was in pretty good shape until about 40 years old; then I quit smoking and gained about 40 Lbs. I exercised until I was about 45 and then gave up. Ten years later, I was an out of shape 232 Lbs and got 'winded' carrying out the trash. I no longer felt confident. I felt vulnerable, slow and clumsy. On the 15th of January 2001, I started training under Master Roger Koo, exercised 3 times per week for about 1 - 1 1/4 hours. The 1st session on Monday was very difficult. I could hardly walk the next day and wondered if I had made a mistake. When I exercised Wednesday, I was very sore before and after. I made it through another session Friday and spent most of the weekend on the sofa with multiple hot pads. The first week was hell.

Extractions: I started my training at Koo Self Defense (KSD) when I was 5 years old. I started as a white belt. There is a total of 17 ranks. I started at rank one. To move up a rank I had to do acertain amount of classes then I had to break a board with each legdoing a certain kick. I failed about three tests, But I never gave up. I tried to pass the next time. I learned never to give up at KSD. In KSD classes you do stretching for 15 minutes and then you do punching and kicking drills on focus mitts and shields for 45 minutes with water breaks in between the class. At KSD I was taught stamina and self discipline. That really helped me in some situations. I was taught never to use my self defense skills in the wrong way. Karate with Master Roger Koo is great for all ages. Master Koo's oldest student is 58 and the youngest is four. In time you can triple your strength and your flexibility at KSD. The thing that is good is that you don't have to hit 100%, you can start off by hitting softly and build up gradually. I have built up my muscles now that I am doing karate with Master Roger Koo. I am better at my sports because my muscles have gotten

I've been involved with martial arts for (8) eight years and have reached the level of 1st. Degree Black Belt. I began my martial arts study with the Choi Kwang Do (CKD)system here in Cartersville, Georgia. I had only planned on trying it for only a few months, but I became addicted to the training. As years went by, I thought that the best martial arts school was Choi Kwang Do. Granted, I went through many instructors, but I continued to love the art. My goal was only to become a Black Belt. One day, I went training and was told that the studio had closed. I was somewhat upset because the instructor at the time didn't give his students any reason for the closure. Wanting to continue my training, I decided to travel some twenty (20) miles to train at CKD Headquarters. This went on for about two weeks. I have had enough. There was no sense of direction for me until I went to see Master Roger Koo in January 1998. Master Koo, Founder of Koo Self Defense International (KSDI) invited me to train in his studio in Downtown Cartersville, Metro Atlanta, Georgia, USA. My first class at KSD, Master Koo paired me up with one of his yellow belt, Michael Roberson (NO PROBLEM, I THOUGHT). Yes, it was a huge problem. Michael almost took my arm off !!! Talk about feeling the awesome power of Koo Self Defense, I truly felt POWER that I have never felt in Choi Kwang Do especially for a very low ranking student. It's not just the yellow belts who has that kind of hitting power, ALL of his students do !!! I knew then that this was the new training center for me !!!

Extractions: Testimonials From Koo Self Defense - U.K Students Testimonial #1. My name is James Spence, i'm currently a brown-double black stripe in Koo-Self Defence, United Kingdom. During September 1998, my instructor and I, Mr.Gary Duckworth (2nd degree), made the trip over from England to train at Koo Self Defense International Headquaters in Cartersville, Georgia, U.S.A. We were able to train for up to four hours a day, and rarely did we turn down the oppertunity to so, unless of course tirdness got the better of us! The thing about Master Koo's training programme is the simplicity of the philosophy, we didn't work on any fancy moves, where you think you'll drop an adversary by the touch of a hand. We concentrated on training for the reality of a fight, practising multiple mitt hits, and shield attacks. We didn't want to lose sight of the fact that confrontations on the street are both fast and potentially dangerous. Seldom do they last long, and even less chance you'd see it coming to prepare. Its just a case of using the best weapons you have, your punches, kicks, elbows and knees. And if you're lucky enoughy to only be up against one or two attackers, then hopefully you can do enough to get away safely. The classes boasted a mixed variety of people, what with some being day classes and the others evening times, but the students were always very friendly and welcoming. It was a great experience, and both my instructor and I hope to return some day soon.

You will read how Koo Self Defense, a unique martial art training system developed by Master Roger Koo has changed my entire life. In November 1987, I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease (Cancer of the Lymphatic System). After several surgeries and radiation therapy, I went into remission only for a few months. I then had a recurrence of the disease. This required many more surgeries and fourteen months of intensive Chemotherapy. In April of 1990, at the age of 31, my doctor told me that I was in remission again. My road to recovery has not been easy. The amount of Chemotherapy I needed left my cardiovascular system stiff, tight and brittle. I gained a good bit of weight, and fatigue easily. Currently at age 39, I know it is time to make some permanent changes for a healthier lifestyle and to feel better. My flexibility in my body has become so stiff and tight that simple things such as tying my shoes and getting out of bed are a tiring task. Through research I had learned that martial arts training was an excellent way to achieve flexibility. This is when I contacted Master Koo, Founder of Koo Self Defense International in Downtown Cartersville,Metro Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I explained my medical history and what I wanted to achieve.

I first met Master Roger Koo March 20, 2002 when I joined his studio in downtown Cartersville, Georgia, USA. My wife, Pamela and daughter, Amanda wanted to start taking karate classes together. They checked out martial arts studios from Marietta in Cobb county to Adairsville in Bartow county where we live. When they selected Master Koos studio, I went with them for their first class. I was so impressed with the commitment to physical fitness and power of all of his students, and I joined myself. I have been involved in weight lifting and boxing for many years and I was very impressed with his knowledge of self defense and the methods he uses to get all of his students extremely fit and powerful. We have had many people come to class to try out one of our class and even joined from different martial arts disciplines such as Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Choi Kwang Do, Jeet Kune Do, Kunf Fu, and many others. Some of them have trained for years and even black belts and they do not have the power or physical fitness that can match students who have barely trained one month training in Koo Self Defense in fitness and power! Some of these other martial arts students would be explaining how great their techniques were and how they would do forms, sparring, grappling etc. but the bottom line is all of those training that they have done amounts to nothing as they just do not have the stamina and the power to go with their techniques!

Extractions: My experience at Koo Self Defense. I consider it the most progressive martial arts in the world! This is an open letter to all those considering karate lessons: I'm 54 years old and live in Cartersville, Georgia. I took 15 months of karate lessons and got a red belt from another karate studio in Cartersville, Georgia, which has now closed. In June of 1998 I started back with Koo Self Defense International, also in Cartersville, Georgia. Master Koo was gracious in allowing me to enter at the red belt level. I noticed that the rigid formalities and stances were gone. How refreshing...I could finally focus on hitting and kicking. The next thing that was evident was how hard his lower belts could hit. Nobody that I'd ever worked with at the other studio (including several black belts) could hit anywhere near as hard. I wish there were some way that I could put into print how hard these low-belt Koo students hit. I couldn't believe it...newbies hitting harder than many of the other studios' black belts. Recently, a white belt teenager that had just started and was attending his second class was working with me. He was hitting incredibly hard, just from the training he'd gotten at his first class. He had zero martial arts experience. I'm impressed with Koo.

Extractions: ksdi.net Koo Self Defense was developed in Cartersville, Georgia, USA by Master Roger Koo in 1992 following 20+ years of traditional Martial Arts training (32 years to date). Through his many years of training since the age of fifteen, Master Koo discovered that most of the techniques he had been taught and sought to perfect were not practical and did not translate into real life situations. All martial arts find their roots in other martial arts styles. Koo Self Defense is no exception. Master Koo while in his search for a progressive and practical martial arts found Choi Kwang Do but after only a short time found it to be very limited. It, like other martial arts styles emphasized on one look for all students rather than one that fits each. He found that all martial arts systems tried to duplicate the movements of its founder which severely limited individual achievement. He abandoned this antiquated approach and developed a revolutionary, progressive and more importantly realistic and varied methods of training and drills for his students. While others sought to adopt from other styles, Master Roger Koo eliminated all traditional techniques which found no real translation into real self defense situations. Koo Self Defense is leading the way in the much needed evolution of martial arts and self defense systems.

Extractions: Get Five DVDs for $.49 each. Join now. Tell me when this page is updated Lance Hall Koo Self Defense I am a high school Special Education teacher and volleyball coach in Northwest Georgia. I started training at Koo Self Defense in April 2001. In March 2001, I was recovering from minor surgery when I had time to think about my health and fitness. I was 37 years old and 50 pounds overweight. My cholesterol was around 270. My doctor was going to increase my blood pressure medicine. I knew I had to do something. The only exercise program that has ever worked for me has been martial arts (in particular, judo). But the idea of driving 25+ miles one-way to Woodstock, GA or Rome, GA to get pounded into the mats by 20-year-old studs did not appeal to me. While surfing the Internet, I came across Master Koo's web site. After reading his information, I saw that he used training methods that were similar in principle to the way I train my volleyball team. My philosophy in volleyball is that you always train in game-like situations so that when the championship is on the line, your training comes through. Master Koo trains you for that self-defense situation (which hopefully never happens) so that your training automatically comes through. For example, you don't practice serving a volleyball without a net to hit the ball over, so why would you practice punching air as in some martial arts. At Koo Self Defense, you punch and kick with full power against resistance. Master Koo emphasizes fitness also (which as I am overweight, appealed to me). Besides you can't run away if you are out of shape, much less protect yourself or your family.
