Product Description
A Yummy Mummy strides through maternity with style, passion, savvy, a healthy sense of self, and killer cleavage. She soars above the domestic rut, craves creative revelation, and turns motherhood into an adventure–an art rather than a skill.

The Yummy Mummy Manifesto, Anna Johnson’s unique mix of advice, do-it-yourself ideas, riffs, and personal reflections about motherhood, shows how to make the most important job you’ll ever have more delicious in every detail. Blooming with comforting and entertaining guidance on everything from style and decor to nutrition and finding your own parenting approach, this book provides something for every new mother or hot mama-to-be, covering breast-feeding basics, dressing the in-between body, emotional roadblocks, quirky mile stones, and throwing a simple but chic first birthday party. Johnson liberates the pregnant belly from the laws of good taste–yes, you can rock horizontal stripes, big polka dots, and crazy, large floral prints–and shares ways to decorate the nursery without resorting to duckling yellow wallpaper and gingham dust ruffles. Most important, through it all, she reveals how to hold onto your spirit, creativity, wit, and sensuality.

Hilarious, enlightening, practical, candid–and joyously illustrated–The Yummy Mummy Manifesto does maternity with flair, heart, and utter bliss. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Annoying and Pretentious
Its clear the author wants you to think she is a
hip earth-mama but she comes off as
an unkind know-it-all. I found her harsh and judgmental
of "main stream" mothers.

Other than the nice book design and a few cute play
ideas (the only reason I gave it two stars instead of one),
this book was a waste of time and money.

2-0 out of 5 stars May be I read a different book
I have toadmit that I stopped reading this book half way, as I found myself being more and more annoyed. On a positive note, her chapter on sexuality during pregnancywas very interesting. However, the book is full of misinformation in terms of health and medical advice. She states as facts what are merely her opinions. For example, she recommended something completely opposite to what was recommended by my physician. There are also a lot of contradictions. In one chapter she reassures expectant moms that it is OK to indulge their cravings. In the next chapter she makes one feel like a criminal for eating a piece of cake. Finally, what I liked the least is that the author rejects all things "mainstream".Even the baby's name has to be bold and unusual. And, don't you even dare thinking about buying a conventional crib.According to the author it is too cold and impersonal. Finally, the author has a chip on her shoulder regarding having to undergo a C-section.Really, what did she expect? She chose home birthing (by the way, if you request epidural, you are also criminal). When that did not go right, she was transferred in the hospital. After hours in the hospital, the labor did not progress as planned, and she was taken for emergency C-section.Yet it was somehow the hospital's fault for not allowing her to push long enough.
Overall, I found this book too idealistic and "granola".You will only like it if you share an opinion with the author.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sage advice as if written by your best girlfriend.
I love this book!I've just ordered three more copies for my pregnant and soon to be pregnant friends.I'll probably end up keeping a few on the shelf to hand out as well.
What we need when we are pregnant is support. And Anna Johnson provides a unique, warm and loving perspective on pregnancy that just makes you feel empowered.
I'm so tired of hearing about all the negative stuff that happens to a pregnant woman.I want to walk proud, because I am proud to have accomplished such an incredibly mystifying feat.
I especially love the chapter on sexuality.Miss Johnson couldn't be more right about how pregnant women are totally ignored on the sexual front.
The fashion advice is to die for.I used her tips just yesterday to find some great basics, and some wow pieces.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Absolute Must-Read for Future Mommy's.--Fantastic shower gift.
Ideally, every woman should read this book--or at least start reading it, before giving birth. Far from your typical 'What to Expect When You're Expecting', this book shares deep and honest insights that I wish I'd had before going through the many joys and trials of new-motherhood. Had I only known how many of the things I was going through were normal! Amazingly, though most women concede that those first months are 'hard'--very few are absolutely honest about HOW hard they can be--in many different ways.

Further, the book gives very practical advice on a number of related topics including: how to embrace balance in your new role, inevitable marital/relational challenges, body-acceptance, health, finding one's genuine self amidst pressure and social norms,This isn't just shallow, cliquéd advice. Much to my surprise-it's actually wisdom.

This would be a fantastic baby shower gift for any first-time mom.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book!
I'm not a mother but I was waiting for this book to be published.I loved Anna Johnson's first book, 'Three Black Skirts'.I refer to it when I'm feeling low or in need of reassurance or sisterly common sense.I'm trying to decide whether or not to try for a baby and I knew she'd tell it like it is with 'The Yummy Mummy Manifesto'.This book makes me feel like it's possible to have a child and not lose your sense of joi de vivre and spontaneity. She has a delicious, off-centre sensibility and an approach to child-raising that I love. She preaches colour (in clothing, decor, baby names...) and joy and how to not let yourself get herded into some kind of beige, virtuous, tightly-wound mother stereotype.Beautiful, sassy illlustrations.A ton of practical and imaginative tips on baby wrangling and how not to go bonkers when you're home alone all day.I hope she writes at least a dozen more books. ... With the cold war between the United States and the Soviet Union at its height, a young couple migrates from Boston to Australia to escape imminent nuclear war. They are surprised to meet many people in Sydney who had moved from North America and Europe for the same reason. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, had migrated to Australia and New Zealand to find shelter. The Australian press refers to them as "nuclear migrants." AUSTRALIA YEARS reveals a creative young woman's search for a meaningful life in an unfamiliar land. Personal events unfold amidst the beauty of the Australian landscape and the historic backdrop of the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, and the women's liberation movement. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Poignant Memoir of An Adventuring Woman
Once, while stranded for many months away from home and suffering from loneliness, I read my way through the biographical section of the small local library. How I wish I would have had the pleasure of coming to know, in that bleak time, P. Anna Johnson through her book Australia Years. The author gives the reader an intimate experience of Australia in the early 1960's. It depicts the life of a young mother breaking free of the 1950's American conservatism and political ignorance. She is self-revealing with a light touch as well as humble, loving and full of wonder at the wider world and her time in history. A lovely, timeless memoir.

5-0 out of 5 stars I really enjoyed this book!
We all crave stories of other people's lives--where their decisions took them, how they coped with what befell them, what they make of it years later. This urge can be satisfied with fiction as well as nonfiction but there is special meaning in reading about a real life. Anna Johnson's lovely memoir, Australia Years: The Life of a Nuclear Migrant is the story of a thoughtful and creative young woman at the beginning of her adulthood, full of idealism and hope for finding a place to live in harmony with the world and away from war. A wiser but still idealistic woman looks back, forty years later, on the triumphs and disappointments of those precious years.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating & Compassionate
This is a fascinating and courageous book with insightful glimpses into 1960s U.S., Australia, the peace movement, race relations and real life through the wise eyes of peace activist, Anna Johnson. She catapults you into a world you may have only read about, and brings alive the famous and not so famous people who have helped shape history while generously sharing her personal experiences with life and love.

4-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating glimpse of emigrating FROM the USA
This is a memoir by an emigrant FROM, not TO, the U.S.A, part of a little known protest migration of young people, couples, families who tried to leave the dangers of the nuclear arms race their country was immersed in for the safer, beckoningshores of an Australia open to white immigrants only.
A fascinating glimpse of the many contradictions, personal and political, facing a young, concerned, college-educated woman of that time, on the cusp of the 1960s and the great chages in store for women and so many others in the United States.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully helpful!
I received this book as a gift from a friend, specifically for Polly O'Connor's chapter, "Our Brain When We Grieve," to help with the sudden loss of my two very special pets.Polly's chapter was immensely helpful.Normally a pretty rational and overly logical person, I couldn't help thinking I was going crazy to be grieving so much over two small animals who had lived good, long lives.Polly's chapter explained how neurological patterns trigger certain emotional and physical responses, including pain during loss.Although (necessarily) a little technical, her explanations were very clear and understandable - and very interesting.I also find understanding how the brain processes different thoughts and emotions to be very helpful in dealing with other life issues.

After reading that chapter, I thought I'd just breeze through a few of the other chapters to see what they were about. As it turned out, I found it hard to put the book down because every single chapter contained valuable advice and tips on other important life situations:business, relationships, families, decision-making, etc.I highly recommend "Changes of the Heart."I can't think of anyone who wouldn't benefit from it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Best choice
After reading "Changes of the Heart"edited by Anna Paradox I found it to be one of the best self help books I have ever seen.It does not tell you what to do, instead it gives you step by step questions to ask your self to help you make the best choice for your own life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book
It is quite rarely we call books beautiful, but "Changes of the heart" indeed is a great work of amazing talented people who had a power to get together and create the book which can answer to so many different questions for different stages of life. Almost encyclopedia for life, it can be helpful when you need to loose weight, havequestions how to raise a challenging child, making difficult choices or need to renew your energy. It is all in one book. I own the copy and looking forward to give it as gift to my friends and family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for getting clarity!
My wife and I were in the process of buying a summer home and were considering an option to buy a mobile home. We couldn't quite figure out whether to buy it or not so we used a chapter in the book "Practical Guide to making choices" by Alina Bas and went through the exercise and then it became really clear to us that we do not want to buy that specific house. This book let us see our assumptions, commitments and desires clearly and put us on the same page. Later on we got a much better deal which saved us tens of thousands of dollars!
This book is an amazing tool!

5-0 out of 5 stars Life-affirming from cover to cover

I've read "Changes of the Heart" from cover to cover and I have found so much that is life-affirming, reassuring and helpful even in topics that don't directly relate to my current situation.
