5-0 out of 5 stars The Truth (At least for Aries Women)
Next to the Bible, I think this is one of the most important books people need to own.I definitely use it as a point of reference and I'm not even heavy into astrology. But I was called out so accurately, I had no choice but to believe. It's almost alarming how you can be described so well by something that has no pulse.I'm not saying that it'll be the same experience for everyone, but it's definitely not a waste of money--especially if you're single! *wink*

5-0 out of 5 stars Whimsical story and captivating illustrations... Wishing for...
The Year of the Dog is a wonderfully whimsical story that my young daughters like to read to ME, since I was born in the Year of the Dog.The illustrations are simply captivating."See what you look like here, Mommy."We loved reading the traits of those born in the Year of the Dog ("See Mommy, here it says you are loyal AND stubborn.")We also like the fact it has a listing of the years that qualify. We are wishing that the ENTIRE series of books were available now to purchase, instead of having to wait each year for a new one.Only the Dog, Pig, Rat, and Ox are available now, so we will be waiting 8 more years to get the Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Ram, Monkey, and Rooster. My oldest will be 18 then.Sigh... Nevertheless, we want you to know we love this book -- it's one of our favorites.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book
The Year of the Dog: Tales from the Chinese Zodiac is a great book! Oliver Chin's tale of a brave little dog looking for a chance to prove himself is clever and inspiring. My kids, aged 7, 9 and 11 all enjoy the book and read it all the time. Miah Alcorn's illustrations are colorful, lively and full of expression. Yet another great book in the Chinese Zodiac series. I just ordered Year of the Pig and the new Year of the Rat. I highly recommend this book!

5-0 out of 5 stars A whimsical tale of confusion and adventure
The Year Of The Dog: Tales From The Chinese Zodiac is a picturebook about a puppy born on New Years' Day, who explores his surroundings with the companionship of Lin, the little girl next door. A whimsical tale of confusion and adventure, as Lin and the puppy meet the other animals of the Chinese zodiac, some in their imagination, and some in real life - and the Tiger in particular is a very dangerous animal to meet! The cartoony and angular art style captures the eagerness of the young dog perfectly, in this upbeat astrological tale.

5-0 out of 5 stars Glory
I had this book several years ago and lost it through carelessness.I'm so glad to find it again. The Glory of the Stars is a "must read" book for all professing Christians. It disspells the notion that it is wrong to look into the meaning of the beautiful constellations which our Creator has set in the heavens.God's first Bible IS written in the stars, in the heavens above us for all to read.Nobody, therefore, is without a Bible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Signs of the Zodiac depict the Plan of God
When we look into the skies, are the stars simply scattered randomly across the heavens or were they placed in their positions by the Divine hand of God? Capt demonstrates how the 12 constellations of the zodiac, along with the minor constellations, actually give witness to the immutable plan of God and ultimately declare His glory in a picture language that all people can understand. Inspiring!

2-0 out of 5 stars Good Concept, Poor Execution
I read Glory of the Stars, eager at first, then begrudgingly. What seemed like an amazing task to undertake took a turn for the unfeasible.
First, I believe that the story of the Bible, of Christ, is written in the stars. And this is evident in the author, but his execution in proving this was poor. The author does not cite his work as it progresses, nor does he order the eras in which the historical data was taken (eg, the Sumerians existed prior to the Phoenicians, or Egyptians, etc) so the history is then changed to fit his personal theory regarding one particular constellation. It's hard to believe that a man so qualified and educated could overlook this basic principal. Not only does that procedure help an argument, it does not leave the readers in confusion over your "facts."

Now, as for the content itself, many of the constellations were quite easy to interpret, his Biblical and historical basis' were simply written. His analysis of the constellation Libra, for example, was very to the point regarding the ancient history of the scales and its meaning in the Bible. However, most of the other comparatives resorted to chunks of Biblical theme and doctrine taken out of context from the Bible, or flat out misinterpreted. Take Delphinus, for example. After briefly explaining the importance of the dolphin in ancient times, he then weakly compares it to Christ's resurrection.I can see it, but it's a stretch, as are many of his comparative.

Overall, I'd say it's a decent read if you are looking to begin a study of the zodiac in reference to the revelation of Christ. It'll at least get you thinking, and perhaps provide a jumping point for reading clearer, more specific works on the subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Open Your Mind!
This book was very enlightening!Raymond Capt wrote his books so many years ago, but he was so far ahead of his time. The past few decades on this planet have been so mind closing. Our belief systems have limited our abilities to search for the truth. We just take what we've been taught at face value and believe it to be the truth and the gospel and we go with it, limiting our beliefs to just that and being totally unaccepting of any other possible way.Capt gives us other ways!

Read all of Capt's books and you will find so many new paths and truths.Don't make judgemnets on his writings until you have read them (as one reviewer has)!!!!

1-0 out of 5 stars Caution before you buy!
I have not read this book. But I clicked on the link for information about the author, and was taken to his publisher's website. It was filled with Mr. Capt's books, and many others on (pro) Identity movement, British Israelism, the superiority of the white race, disbelief in a literal hell, etc.I am caucasion, and I strongly disagree with these cult beliefs, so I would not consider reading books by Mr. Capt other than to see what a twisted version of a topic from the Bible said.Evangelicals--beware!Make sure you know what you are getting! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The Case Of The Zodiac Kille
This book is written for high school and Junior-High school students. Many of the facts contained are wrong.

For example, the first attrbuted Zodiac killings were on December 20, 1968, NOT December 29, 1968 as listed in the book.Such poor and careless research poses questions as to the amount of research spent in this case.

Further, there are grammatical errors in this book.Getting a used copy is fine; they are available.A new copy is not worth the price.

The Case of The Zodiac Killer is not a recommended book for serious researchers - there are better ones out there. For a simple, quick overview (with wrong dates), it can be a quick resource.Other than that, forget it! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The book is a poor introduction to the Zodiac Mosaics.
The book consists mainly of booklists, and if that is what you are after, it is the book for you. The star given is mainly for the booklist, because the author is clearly not very well versed in his subject.

Simple names are missing in the lists, and conclusions often fails to be correct because the author is guessing - and from lack of correct backgroundinformation, he is not very good at it. - Some statements are simply wrong.

The author admits not to know much about the Chinese Zodiac -the correct term would have been that he knows even less about the Chinese Zodiac.

Verypictures are shown of the mosaics, you can get better ones from searching the web in fact. The few pictures shown are in black and white and not tecnical adequate for a book boasting of showing the mosaics. The few drawings do not make up for the actual lack of Mosaics.

I recieved a copy of the book in a black cloth binding, and there may be a discrepancy in the book shown and the book I got, but I doubt it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Becoming a CLASSIC resource!
Published only a few years ago, and still in print, this work has already become THE classic resource for the history of astrology especially as it pertains to Jewish faith and practices.Dr. Ness is the ultimate expert in this field and his study is essential.

5-0 out of 5 stars A masterful study of ZODIAC mosaics and their meaning!
Dr. Ness has provided us with the most complete resource for the study of zodiac mosaics in Synagogues and of the history of astrology in general. This book is a must have for all Jewish scholors and astrologers alike!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Serious Look at Astrology
When I found this book, I knew nothing about the serious study or history of astrology.I was amazed to learn a great deal from this study.Dr. Ness presents an engaging, readable, and often humorous look at astrologyand Jewish synagogue mosaics. The illustrations are useful and theannotated bibliography is a great resource! ... Poor Danu. She wished her dad had let her stay at home when he went for a one-year archaeological assignment in South America. At home, Danu had loads of friends, pets she adored, was a fantastic student, and was very content.

Not so much when her dad arranged for her to live with her aunt in a tiny apartment. Her aunt doesn't like it any more than Danu does.Danu thinks that by being rebellious and not doing her school work, she will be sent back home.No such luck.Plus, with that type of behavior, people who don't know her are definitely not impressed.

When Danu decides to leave the boring, dull, and lonely apartment and walk around the boring, dull, and lonely city, she finds an area of town absolutely bursting with life. And intrigue.People seem to know her.Have been expecting her.Very eerie.

When she goes to the website of a quaint little shop she visits, she receives a message that she is the Zodiac Girl for the month.Joe claims to be her guardian for that time.He is Jupiter. She's Sagittarius. It makes sense to him, but seems very suspicious to Danu.Joe tells her she will have encounters with other celestial beings, and he is correct.

Does this mean that Joe will be able to solve all of her problems?Danu could only hope for that.It is Danu who must learn to figure out what she wants and how to take steps towards making those things happen. The planets can guide you, but you have to think for yourself.Have to decide how you want your life to be.

Join Danu on a mystical trip and mingle with the planets and stars in this out-there, fun book.

4-0 out of 5 stars From Feminist Review.org
Cathy Hopkins has sold millions of books, most of them written for teenage girls. After reading her latest book, Zodiac Girls: Recipe for Rebellion, I credit her popularity with a tone that both accurately captures the anxieties of adolescent life, and also achieves a likeability of character that is the key to most of today's popular literature. Formerly an art school student, rock singer, aromatherapist and teacher of meditation techniques, Hopkins has an edge to her, a wit and style only found in people who have lived life outside of the lines to a certain degree. And this comes through in her characters.

Recipe for Rebellion is the story of Danu Harvey Jones, a motherless 13-year-old whose father has left for the archeological expedition of a lifetime and foisted her off on his sister, a workaholic attorney. Danu hates having to leave her home, her pets and her friends, and hates the cold high rise her aunt lives in. So, she plots to get herself sent back home by dreadlocking her hair, adopting a scowl and acting out in class. Unfortunately these tactics only increase her loneliness and isolation, until she meets a magical stranger who informs her that she is this month's "zodiac girl."

While the plot and characters are interesting and engaging enough to stand up on their own, the key to the Zodiac Girls series is that each book is centered on an astrological sign, Recipe's being Sagittarius. And through the foil of fantastical characters - people who represent planets and all live together in one small, needless-to-say very funky town - Hopkins manages to give a solid overview of astrology to her reader. Anyone not familiar with astrology would have a much better idea of what it is all based on and how it all works after reading a book in this series. That in and of itself is a reason I'd recommend this over most other teen chick-lit books. It is informative as well as incredibly entertaining. ... Read more

In this haunting, melancholy futuristic set about 170 years into the future, 22 year-old amnesiac soldier Sullivan walks into the primitive heartland of the U.S., searching for a man whose name he has written on a piece of paper. When he finds Rafe, who is a Cuban American about his same age, they experience a mutual attraction. Sullivan concentrates on fitting into his new world and gaining the townsfolk's trust. I would have preferred a tighter focus on piecing together his forgotten mission rather than lingering on the men's developing relationship. Even so, this is a very absorbing story, and the plot threads come together well in the end. Recommended. ... Read more
