3-0 out of 5 stars A Good Text with a Few Serious Deficiencies (IMHO)
I have completed my first run through of the book in preparation for the oral boards and felt over all that this is a good book. It is one of the few concise case based books covering Ob-Gyn Ultrasound. The cases did cover a wide variety of disease that are likely to show up at case conference and/or the oral boards. I have a few criticisms of this text.

1. There is no introductory normal anatomy particularly of the OB section. Nor is there an explanation of a normal fetal survey. Or it's required components by the ACR.

2. There is a general lack of organization. The Ob cases are haphazardly mixed with the Gyn cases, which is how things will be at the orals, but it's nice to be able to study in an organized fashion.

Overall a good book, but with a few serious deficiencies. The authors could review Bill Middleton's excellent case review book on General and Vascular Ultrasound for suggestions regarding the format and anatomy. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good review book for practitioners doing ultrasound on the head and neck
I recommend this book for those doctors or techs who want a good overview of head and neck ultrasonography.Full of color photos. It has been very helpful for me in my practice of endocrinology and diagnostic thyroid ultrasounds and FNAs.There is a chapter on FNAs & biopsies.Very useful for those doctors who want to do the ultrasounds themselves instead of relying on an US tech.It was recommended to me by an experienced ultrasound tech.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Primer On Head and Neck Ultrasound
This book provides a very comprehensive introduction to head and neck ultrasound. Each section of text is accompanied by a clear ultrasound image of the pathology. There is also a good deal of clinical and helpful hints in the book.
Although it is very thorough, some of the topics could use a little more coverage or additional images.
A very good buy overall for anyone getting started in Head and Neck ultrasound imaging. The advanced user will probably want a little weightier text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Practical Head and Neck Ultrasound
The book was written for radiologists who wished to achieve a better understanding of basic anatomy and pathology using high resolution ultrasound techniques. However, as a head and neck surgeon now into the field of diagnostic ultrasound including US fine needle aspiration, this book was exactly what I was looking for.It is clear, well marked and written, and clearly written for a practicing clinician. It does not delve at all into the physics and makes a practical assumption that there is some skill level by the operator prior to reading this book.It is also very well organized with two different tracks. The first is dividing the discussion by functional areas, i.e. thyroid, lymphatics, etc.Next it is written by anatomical areas, i.e. Levels 1-6, larynx, carotid, parotid, etc.If you are interested in getting into this field, you will need a bit of practice with this technology prior to reading the book, but once you do, it is immensely helpful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars FB
This text as with all the text in this series is very informative.I love it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Your Ultrasound department needs this book...
This is an excellent text for general ultrasound departments. Areas covered include abdominal, gynaecological & small parts ultrasound imaging in one of the most useful formats I've yet to discover. Each topic is broken down into sections e.g. grayscale, colour Doppler & spectral Doppler features. Also included is how each pathology appears on alternative imaging modalities - above and beyond the books title!

Although this text also includes very useful chapters for breast, musculo-skeletal and vascular imaging, I believe anyone specialising in these fields will find more information elsewhere. Obvious omissions from this text is the lack of paediatric & neonatal cranial ultrasound. Obstetric ultrasound imaging is covered within a separate (also excellent) text in the publishers Diagnostic Imaging seriesDiagnostic Imaging: Obstetrics. Otherwise, specialised fields including endoscopic, intra-operative, opthalmic, rheumatoid & penile ultrasound imaging are not included.

Despite any areas of omission, I believe this is still the best ultrasound text for general imaging departments, and is particularly well laid out for those studying Diagnostic Ultrasound.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!
This is by far my favorite ultrasound textbook. It breaks everything down by organ, gives a full discription of "normal anatomy" and then further breaks it down by disease process. Each disease process gets its own heading and has a 2-5 page detailed explanation. The book gives information about clinical presentations, symptoms, correlating dianostic imaging test results and, best of all, has TONS of images!!!I have never seen a book with higher quality images before. And there isn't just one for each abnormality, there are several! The explanations are neatly organized and easy to read. They even put a "What you really need to know" type box at the top so if you're lazy you can just read that.Everything is covered that one would need for the abdominal board exam, obscure small parts included. The ONLY thing this book doesn't have are quiz questions, so if you're looking for exam practice look to Lippincott's review book. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
Ultrasound imaging is one of the most important and widely used diagnostic tools in modern medicine, second only to the conventional x-ray. Although considered a mature field, research continues for improving the capabilities and finding new uses for ultrasound technology while driving down the cost of newer, more complicated procedures such as intravascular ultrasound. Diagnostic Ultrasound: Imaging and Blood Flow Measurements presents new developments, fundamental physics, instrumentation, system architecture, biological effects of ultrasound, and clinical applications that reflect this initiative.

Keeping mathematical derivations to a minimum, this book begins with an overview of the field, the strengths and weaknesses of the technology, and its role relative to other imaging modalities. The book proceeds to describe the fundamental physics involved, a detailed examination of the transducer, conventional imaging approaches, and Doppler measurements. The following chapters explore new developments such as flow, displacement, contrast, harmonic, intracavity, and 4-D imaging. The author concludes by reviewing current status and standards on bioeffects along with a unique chapter on measuring ultrasonic properties of tissues that can be found nowhere else.

Emphasizing the engineering and signal processing aspects of ultrasound technology rather than taking a clinical perspective, Diagnostic Ultrasound: Imaging and Blood Flow Measurements encourages and enables further advances in this established yet dynamic field. ... Read more
