Editorial Review Product Description A comprehensive reference and practical guide on the technology and application of ultrasound to the musculoskeletal system. It is organized into two main sections. The first is devoted to general aspects, while the second provides a systematic overview of the applications of musculoskeletal ultrasound in different areas of the body. Ultrasound scans are correlated with drawings, photographs, images obtained using other modalities, and anatomic specimens. There is a generous complement of high-quality illustrations based on high-end equipment. This book will acquaint beginners with the basics of musculoskeletal ultrasound, while more advanced sonologists and sonographers will learn new skills, means of avoiding pitfalls, and ways of effectively relating the ultrasound study to the clinical background. Greatbook for sonographers! thanks
Great to have a clear concept of Ultrasound Physics
An introductory textbook on medical ultrasound The textbook starts with an overview of the basic physics of waves and ultrasound, proceeds to the transducers and beam shape, and continues to the computer technology used for imaging. Next comes a chapter on the Doppler effect, being followed by a discussion on spectral analysis. A synthesis of these two techniques is the color Doppler imaging, and an entire chapter is devoted on the recent techniques like Color Doppler and Color Power Doppler. The textbook is concluded by a chapter discussing the artifacts, and finally a chapter on performance and safety. The style is highly readable, although the text is somewhat repetitive. One striking observation - for a physicist at least - is that professor Kremkau denies the efforts spent in inventing a readable representation of mathematical relations over the past 500 years or so, and has invented his own system. So instead of the usual "wavelength equals propagation speed divided by frequency" written in mathematical symbols, we see frames like "frequency UP, wavelength DOWN" throughout the book. Strange, and probably not particularly efficient. Each chapter is accompanied by a list of over 100 questions, and the answers are provided at the end of the book after the summary chapter. Each chapter also contains a small handy glossary. The book is lavishly illustrated and has a useful index, while the list of references is not particularly impressive. ... Read more |

Editorial Review Product Description The pioneering emergency ultrasound guide--updated and expanded with coverage of the newest technologies Praise for the first edition:--"The book is intended for emergency physicians, but any practicing physician who uses ultrasound for the assessment of patients could clearly benefit from this book....This book is certainly unique in that it provides a clinically relevant approach to such a rapidly growing field. Each chapter's objective is met while not inundating the reader with unnecessary technical details. Although simply reading the book is not sufficient for expertise, the material provides a solid foundation in understanding the subject. 5 STARS!"--Doody's Review Service Emergency Ultrasound is firmly established as the first state-of-the-art reference on the training, techniques, and diagnostic skills needed to perform successful ultrasound exams in the emergency department.Utilizing a templated chapter format, this trusted resource presents a wide range of detailed guidelines on performing ultrasound exams, case studies, and side-by-side comparisons of normal and abnormal scans. Editorial Review Product Description This is a "user friendly" book, written specifically for the clinician, and offers a hands-on approach to using ultrasound in the evaluation and management of thyroid disease. It discusses new information regarding ultrasound and the subtleties one needs to know in the application of this technique. The book also presents many new innovative uses of ultrasound that are being implemented worldwide. This continues to be an important book, filling a void that exists in this field.
