Product Description
An Air Force major is ordered to approach a brilliant UFO in his Phantom jet over Tehran. He repeatedly attempts to engage and fire on unusual objects heading right toward his aircraft, but his missile control is locked and disabled. Witnessed from the ground, this dogfight becomes the subject of a secret report by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency.

In Belgium, an Air Force colonel investigates a series of widespread sightings of unidentified triangular objects, and he sends F-16s to attempt a closer look. Many hundreds of eyewitnesses, including on-duty police officers, file reports, and a spectacular photograph of an unidentifiable craft is retrieved and analyzed.

Here at home, a retired chief of the FAA’s Accidents and Investigations Division reveals the agency’s response to a thirty-minute encounter between an aircraft and a gigantic UFO over Alaska, which occurred during his watch and is documented on radar.

Now all three of these distinguished men have written breathtaking, firsthand accounts about these extraordinary incidents. They are joined by Air Force generals and a host of high-level sources—including Fife Symington III, former governor of Arizona, and Nick Pope, former head of the British Defence Ministry’s UFO Investigative Unit—who have agreed to write their own detailed, personal stories about UFO encounters and investigations for the first time.

They are coming forward now because of Leslie Kean, an investigative reporter who has spent the last ten years studying the still unexplained UFO phenomenon. Kean reviewed hundreds of government documents, aviation reports, radar data, and case studies with corroborating physical evidence. She carefully examined scientifically analyzed photographs and interviewed dozens of high-level officials and aviation witnesses from around the world. With the support of former White House chief of staff John Podesta, Kean draws on her research to separate fact from fiction and to lift the veil on decades of U.S. government misinformation. Throughout, she presents irrefutable evidence that unknown flying objects—metallic, luminous, and seemingly able to maneuver in ways that defy the laws of physics—actually exist.

No one yet knows what these objects are, even though they affect aviation safety and possibly national security. The phenomenon has been officially acknowledged by numerous foreign governments. For these reasons and many others, Kean concludes that the UFO problem must be more widely recognized and ultimately solved through an unbiased scientific investigation. The material presented throughout this landmark book is sobering, unflinching, and undeniably awe-inspiring, and moves us toward a goal of properly addressing this worldwide mystery. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A relatively straight presentation of the UFO enigma
Writing about UFO's is the "Third Rail" of the scientific community or of any well informed author.This book attempts to show the facts that many UFO sitings have been made by credible individuals and have been reasonably documented.Most if not all cases discussed are well known events of the past 40 years.The author takes an agnostic viewpoint towards the phenomenon and nowhere makes case for an extraterrestial explanation. This is an interesting book for those individuals interested in phenomena neglected by the scientic community.

5-0 out of 5 stars A credible work on the UFO question.
This book, by such a pro writer, is a must read for anyone serious about the UFO question.This is a well researched and written challenge for our government to step up and take this issue seriously.If you question weather UFO's are real read this book and then decide.Thank you Leslie for your excellent work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Paradigm-Shifting
This book is extraordinary. It is extremely carefully researched, well put together, clearly written, and highly persuasive.

She makes UFO debunkers look like silly 3rd graders who clearly are ignorant of the facts. This is actually quite just, given the nature of the evidence out there for UFOs.

These are reports from high-level officials worldwide, like airplane pilots (who are trained observers), air traffic controllers, cosmonauts, government officials, and scientists. Plus there is also PHYSICAL evidence including radar scans, scientifically analyzed photo and video evidence, marks on the ground, and traces on plants.

"In modern society, physical evidence is normally considered definitive evidence of reality, objective evidence for something that has a cause in the physical world. By this criterion then, at least some UFOs are clearly real. The question that makes them a problem is: could they be extraterrestrial?" Dr. Alexander Wendt and Dr. Raymond Duvall

It is a compelling read, more fun to read than a novel (for me at least.)

I highly recommend it! This book is creating quite an uproar. She's already been to the Colbert Report (google "Leslie Kean UFO colbert report" and made appearances on FOX News and MSNBC)... Things are changing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent, factual book
This easy to understand book is the best of the UFO books on the market and is very factual without making judgments.After reading, it is hard to NOT believe we are being visited by civilizations with technologies well in advance of our own and with a vastly advanced and different knowledge of physics.The evidence presented is irrefutable.

Product Description

Richard M. Dolan is a gifted historian whose study of U.S. Cold War strategy led him to the broader context of increased security measures and secrecy since World War II. One aspect of such government policies that has continued to hold the public's imagination for over half a century is the question of unidentified flying objects.

UFOs and the National Security State is the first volume of a two-part detailed chronological narrative of the national security dimensions of the UFO phenomenon from 1941 to the present. Working from hundreds of declassified records and other primary and secondary sources, Dolan centers his investigation on the American military and intelligence communities, demonstrating that they take UFOs seriously indeed.

Included in this volume are the activities of more than fifty military bases relating to UFOs, innumerable violations of sensitive airspace by unknown craft and analyses of the Roswell controversy, the CIA-sponsored Robertson Panel, and the Condon Committee Report. Dolan highlights the development of civilian anti-secrecy movements, which flourished in the 1950s and 1960s until the adoption of an official government policy and subsequent "closing of the door" during the Nixon administration.

5-0 out of 5 stars avid reader, new to ufology
This book is highly readable, very interesting and extremely well documented. Dolan leaves speculation to a minimum while bombarding the reader with fact upon fact. While the mountain of UFO evidence presented does seem overwhelming at times, it seems appropriate in light of the subject matter. Do yourself a favor and read this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars Pseudo-intellectual drivel for the true believer
Is there such a thing as "the national security state"? Yes. Are there such things as UFOs? If by UFO, one means UNIDENTIFIED flying objects, yes*. But it does not necessarily follow that, therefore, said "national security state" is hiding some supposed "truth" about UFOs involving extraterrestrial technology and/or beings. This is absurd!

There are a lot of leaps of logic and specious conclusions reached here, along with outright misstatements; for example, regarding any sort of scientific consensus regarding extraterrestrial life (especially highly advanced life capable of -- and for some bizarre reason interested in -- interstellar space travel!). Read, Rare Earth: Why Complex Life Is Uncommon in the Universe for a healthy dose of actual science regarding even the possibility of life anywhere else but here. (Hint: We're alone, folks!)

Dolan, at one point, quotes J. Allen Hynek's expression regarding the impossibility of interstellar travel as an example of a closed mindset: "It can't be, therefore it isn't." Yet, he adopts this same exact attitude himself when he concludes that "alien visitation is the most probable explanation", because, of course, whatever this UFO phenomena is, it most certainly can't be of terrestrial or natural origin, i.e., "It can't be, therefore it isn't."

There are much better books that cover the origins and workings of the national security state. As far as UFOs, while Dolan may have compiled a lot of accounts, they still do not add up to scientifically acceptable evidence of ET.

~~~~~
*From the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies: "About 90%-95% of all UFO reports prove to be IFOs, after an examination of the evidence by a trained investigator. People report natural or conventional objects as UFOs because they do not recognize them as such, due to unusual environmental conditions, ignorance, or the rarity of a natural event."
5-0 out of 5 stars The Start of Something Very Special.
There are very few authors that capture your imagination, and then make you question it over and over. I have already reiterated in my first review of (Vol 2) which I initially wrote first. Special Ufology books come along that you know instantly are special, and will hold a special place in your book collection. This is one of those books.
From Keyhoe to Vallee from Good to Friedman. "Dolan" is going to be in the elite of ufologists that made a difference, not just regurgitating the same information thats gone before.
I am starting to think that the Cover-Up of this complexity and size could not be done without the help of the National Security State.
Looking forward to Vol (3)
Best Regards.
Craig AndersonUFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Coverup, 1941-1973
5-0 out of 5 stars A landmark contribution to the field which has earned classic status
Richard Dolan's interest in the UFO issue was, by his own admission, originally stimulated by reading UK researcher Timothy Good's groundbreaking best-seller "Above Top Secret." With almost no initial knowledge of the subject Dolan, a trained historian, committed to a project to discover whether the UFOs persistently intruding into our skies might be of non-human manufacture and if this was known and deliberately concealed by government and military agencies; or if under analysis some other prosaic explanation might be found for this most persistent phenomenon.
After years of painstaking research, interviews with key witnesses and extensive analysis of FOIA-released documents, Dolan discovered that the enormous "National Security" apparatus operating in the USA either under or outside the control of elected government representatives indeed has been withholding information about the issue, deceiving the people and elected government officials for decades. This is the starting point of the author's thesis, which he then develops in an interesting and thought-provoking direction.
This first volume in his evolving trilogy of how the "National Security State" in the USA has managed and controlled public access to information about the UFO issue focuses on the period 1947-1973. The facts are presented in clear detail in Dolan's engaging, literate and lively writing style. Analysis of sightings, examination of evidence for the possible recovery of ET technology (from Roswell and elsewhere) and military encounters with "unknown" objects during this period are documented in an even-handed way. The instigation of information management in the 1940s, the efforts of Major Donald Keyhoe - who Dolan considers to be "The greatest and most important UFO researcher, ever" - to force more openness, the rise of NICAP, APRO and other civilian investigative organizations, Blue Book and the Condon Committee, are all analysed and collected into an intelligent chronological narrative.
The penultimate chapter concludes with a summary of the situation in 1973: "National Security State Triumphant" which needs little elaboration. By this date, the UFO issue had been successfully sidelined and ridiculed, relegated to the status of a fad of past decades in the public mind. Continued sightings and encounters were covered up, witnesses intimidated or pilloried, and the subject pushed to the fringe by a colluding mainstream media.
With the main text just under 400 pages, the book is quite a long read. Comprehensively annotated and with a good index and summary chronology, it takes up some shelf space. The author chooses to self-publish through his Keyhole Publishing Company, so unfortunately no hardcover edition is likely to be available - a pity, as the book is such an important contribution to understanding this phenomenon that a "deluxe version" is warranted.
Dolan has been criticised in the past year by Michael Schuyler and others for being less than completely thorough in validating his source material, for giving a few uncorroborated sightings equal billing with better cases, and for occasionally quoting what turn out to be "dead references" in his books. However in the opinion of this reviewer, although these criticisms might be true in part they are nit-picking around the edges of an overall near-excellent academic study of this most important subject. Dolan is rightly regarded as one of the most credible and thorough researchers in the field, and is a first-class writer to boot.
This important milestone of a book has stood its ground to become something of an icon in the past few years. It's good, and you should read it. It belongs on any bookshelf alongside other first-rate examinations of the ET/UFO issue: Edward Ruppelt's 1956 book, Donald Keyhoe's "Aliens from Space", Tim Good's "Above Top Secret" and "Need to Know" and Jerry Clarke's huge and comprehensive 2-volume encyclopedia. Professor David Jacobs' doctoral thesis "The UFO Controversy in America" published in 1975 also examines the history of the management of the UFO issue during the same period and, being also written by a professional historian, makes an interesting book for comparison. Both are equally good, but different.
The second volume of Dolan's trilogy, published in the summer of 2009 covering the period 1973-91, is even better than his first and deepens the author's thesis towards a more radical and controversial conclusion.
A good companion volume to Dolan's books is "The Missing Times" by Terry Hansen, in which the deliberate mass media management of the UFO issue through the second half of the 20th century by the intelligence agencies is analysed in great detail and which in essence supports Dolan's main thesis.
Five stars, Richard.
5-0 out of 5 stars DEFINITIVE UFO HISTORY FOR DUMMIES
This author is the most thorough - topping even Michael Hesseman and Steven Greer in sheer quantity and quality UFO reports since WWII. It just boggles our minds, and we've read many books and attended many conferences, and yet the sheer number of military reports on UFOs is just amazing.But when "they" shut down multiple missile control sites simultaneously and take out interceptor jets that threaten them too closely, I guess I'd try to hide the fact too if I had been head of any defense position in our country in the past.But yet "they've" never threatened our society, so we think they're just waiting for us to catch up and, hopefully before we destroy our world, adversely affecting their other galaxies and universes!!!!! This will probably be a textbook (advanced) someday, when the lid on this topic is finally blown wide open. . . amaze yourself that all this could have been covered up as well as it has been for so long. . . . . again, cudos, to the author for the most thorough history yet. . . and look out for the sceptics on here who won't do their homework and won't look at anything but "true believer" 3rd dimensional, materiality only "scientists".Whatever happened to the scientific method that says one looks at all the factual material????.When these things have been reported by as many credible witnesses as has been, we can't ignore this subject matter.Latest New York Times bestseller, Leslie Kean's book will give you their first hand testimony: UFOs: Generals, Pilots and Government Officials Go On the RecordAlso, if you tend to favor the material-world-only scientists, Charles Tart's book should be required reading nowadays: The End of Materialism: How Evidence of the Paranormal Is Bringing Science and Spirit Together (co-published with the Institute of Noetic Sciences) (Ions / Nhp).Also for a review parallel dimensions and universes, look at Life Force, the Scientific Basis: Volume 2 of the Synchronized Universe.Claude Swanson is a PHD Princeton physicist. ...     3-0 out of 5 stars UFO crashes
    I feel the title is overblown and hints at some deep government attempt to control all the news of UFOS.
    Just gives history of UFO reports and gives likelihood of whether legitimate or crackpot.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Randle Does it Again
    It is so refreshing and nice to read a book on UFO's where the author actually give's you name's, place's and time's of the events in question.
    So very few books on this topic have author's of Randle's education, status and stature. No new age horse hockey here, just real and accurate information regarding UFO's that have crashed, might have crashed or didn't crash.
    If the reader is one of those who find's a conspiracy behind every rock, then he/she will probably not like this book. Doctor Randle is not afraid to tell the reader that a crash was a hoax if that's where the evidence leads. He gives it to you in a very readable format that is heavy on common sense and lacking any flowery garbage about the alien's are here to help us from ourselve's shlock.
    Motives, means and opportunities are absent here and the reader must think for himself. These are the fact's 'mam as Sgt. Joe Friday would say, but it's not a dry or boring read at all. In fact it's a very exciting read and quite a page turner, as have been all of Kevin Randle's books on this topic.
    5-0 out of 5 stars ufo kerplunk
    I have not read yet,but I'm sure it'll be good.I've read other Randle books,and I've enjoyed them.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Great read for UFO enthusiasts
    This book contains some great research and new information!No one is better than Kevin Randle at sniffing out all the dead ends and hot leads on UFO cases.He does a great job in this book noting which UFO cases are "genuine" and others that people should not be wasting their time on.My only suggestion for his next book is that he make the photos a little more useful; small B&W photos of the crash sites all looked the same.A middle portion with color photos would have been nice.
    5-0 out of 5 stars From eyewitness testimony to paper trails to ongoing controversies
    UFO investigator and retired lieutenant colonel Kevin D. Randle presents Crash: When UFOs Fall from the Sky, a collection of research reports of alien spaceship crashes from 1947 and earlier to 2009. A handful of black-and-white photographs illustrate this thoughtful, updated compendium of paranormal evidence and theory, which suggests possible solutions to some of the longest running enigmas about the possibility of extraterrestrial influence. From eyewitness testimony to paper trails to ongoing controversies, Crash: When UFOs Fall from the Sky is an invaluable compendium for anyone interested in learning about evidence of UFOs, and a welcome addition to paranormal studies shelves.
    5-0 out of 5 stars What we need now
    Not many books spell it out as well asRichard Lawrence's book UFO's and the Extraterrestrial Message.The chapter headings are as reads:
    1. The arrival of the flying saucer
    2. They make contact
    3. X-Files, over-ups and downright lies
    4. A close encounter in Hampshire
    5. ETs in ancient records and religions
    6. Life in a multidimensional universe
    7. Mysticism and the Masters
    8. Primary Terrestrial mental channel
    9. The extraterrestrial message
    My favorite chapter was the last one as channeled by George King.When asked about their religion they say this: I will say this about our religion.It is simplicity.We believe in one God, all is one, although one part may disturb another part and the resultant disturbance causes an appearance of disunity. page 158
    Needless to say, we are the one disturbing the universe right not with our low spiritual level, our grasping at material things instead of spiritual things.If we truly could grasp what the ETs are trying to tell us, our world could be a paradise if we could just realize that all things are God and worthy of respect.This sounds a great deal like the Native American beliefs.The channels do say that reading and living the holy books of any of the great teachers will get you to the right place, and that all religions are valid is a nice change and would probably end more than a few wars if we truly believed such things.But then again, I think that greed is at heart of all wars and that religion is just an excuse, but hey that's just me.
    Anyway, this book is a gem.Chapter by chapter is lays out the extraterrestrial subject from ancient times to present in an easy to understand way which probably won't convince the unbeliever, but will reinforce the believer who will probably be the only one reading the book.Such is life.
    I plan on purchasing anything else I can get my hands on that talks about George King because it makes so much sense and even if you take out the ETs, the philosophy espoused in his channeled material is good to live by.
    5-0 out of 5 stars The Star People are Here
    This book is vital and important.Before this book,many unknown answers to the many questions regarding UFOs and their TRUE reason for visiting our world. Now we have that reason and I'm very very thankful to Richard Lawrence for this watershed revelation. ... Read more
    In August 2009, when the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence released 15 years of reported UFO incidents that occurred in Britain, the mainstream media latched on to a few of the most sensational cases and ran with them.
    The mainstream media also carefully added that Britain’s Defence Ministry concluded that UFOs posed no clear and present danger to its citizens.
    After reviewing many of the 800 plus cases released, the author is not willing to agree with UK’s Ministry of Defence.
    If you consider reports of UFO being able to penetrate air space and military bases with impunity, their beams burning holes into box cars and aliens trying to abduct children a real threat to health and home, then you will join me in concluding that these cases open a Pandora’s Box to chilling fear and apprehension rather than producing a calming effect.
    More than 95% of the reported cases are explainable phenomena such as mistaken military aircraft, satellites or meteors. In this short but interesting report, I have focused on 5% of the incidents that can be classified as “extreme UFO incidents.”These are the incidents where strong evidence points toward the likelihood of an encounter with intelligent beings of unknown origin. Whether they are friendly or hostile is still an open question.
    5-0 out of 5 stars AT LAST, THE BOOK I WANTED TO READ SINCE FOREVER
    First let me say that I read this book almost two years ago, and it still scares me. Now when I say it scares me I mean just that. I love to own a book that is worth every penny I spent, a book that when I am done reading it, I will put it with all my other great reading books, my library. What really impress me and astonish me was chapter "SEVEN" "Angels, Jinn, And Extraterrestrials. I learn more about these beings. especially the Jinn, in the Quran it does talk about the Jinns and how now they are in people lives, just like
    Angels are good the Jinns are not. the book tells about victims who went through hell withJinns and aliens. it even was in the author life, in doing an invesigation of aliens making a victim's life horrible, some of his friends die, and others went down hill. lost their happy life. there is so much more that this book has..and all of it is true with evidence. THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE, SO OPEN YOUR EYES AND SEE.
    ...because, according to the author, it's making time for you.Spaced-out ideas told with a down-to-earth flair for the imaginative.The lively language and sedate pace combine to keep you at the forefront of the speculative...This gentleman wants to believe, but coming from a military background, he requires proof...and he is seemingly foolproof as well, not suffering fools lightly.He can pinpoint a hoax at thirty paces or more or less, for which you have no choice but to give him attention and respect.He knows what he's talking about, and with this book, he walks the walk.Definitely worth looking into, and deeply too.An excellent addition to the UFO/paranormal literature.
    5-0 out of 5 stars The mystery continues
    Interdimensional Universe is a sequel to Celtic Mysteries, a book I strongly recommend reading prior to reading this book. Perhaps the internet will sell both as package atdiscount. This book begins witha brief history of the UFO phenomenon that began its modern era in June, 1947 at Roswell, New Mexico, according to the author. This spurred the author to investigate in detail many of the sightings, and he worked alongside Dr. J. Allen Hynek, head of Project Blue Book. Phil's investigations expanded into Exeter, New Hampshire, Barney and Betty Hill`s UFO experience, and finally the Gulf Breeze activity. Some other areas of exploration are multiple dimensions, psychic connections, angels and jinn.
    Multiple dimensions, or windows that open in time and space periodically, is a concept Dr. Hynek had considered to be a possible solution for some of the UFO activity. Events involved in Celtic Mysteries, such as strangeness in and around stone chambers in New York are mentioned. Cases not included in that book occurred on Reservoir Road (scene of much paranormal activity), New York in which beings with glowing red eyes were seen by witnesses and these witnesses were later interviewed by Phil. There are other eerie encounters by witnesses who are interviewed in great depth by the writer. Other sites investigated are the "Bermuda Triangle", areas near Japan, Hopi traditions, and the Sedona, Arizona area (I experienced strangeness here some 30 years ago). Stargates are discussed, which may be an interaction between magnetic anamolies and vortexes. This is based on the changing of EMPs which may open a window to other dimensions, according to the author. Experiments conducted by the government , such as "The Philadelphia Experiment" (which actually occurred in the Gulf Of Mexico), is a section that, if true, is mind boggling to say the least.
    The psychic connection presents a multitude of case studies and personal experiences by the author. Some cases involve narratives by witnesses such as one by a Loretta Chaney. Another case study deals with a channeling session in which an entity by the name of Monca takes over the body of a man named Brett. Phil remained neutral regarding the strange happenings that ocurred in the session. Other cases involved UFOs in some manner. One was a 75 page story of experiences by a Posy Gilbert which included experiences with dark shadowy figures and red headed Celtic appearing women (tall Nordic??).
    The section involving angels and jinn and extraterrestrials is beyond eerie. and well worth the price of the book. It is evident the author did a great deal of research in this area before his investigations. One case dealt with a drawing of a small gray being that looked strikingly similar in appearance to one evoked by the magician John Dee, a consort of Elizabeth I of England. Jinn is Arabic for "hidden". Also, in western lore they are sometimes referred to as genies. Phil seems to think jinn are responsible for 95% of the authentic channeling done by psychics. Jinn may take many forms. I have read where such beings take the form of asmoky wolf in Hopi lore or a shadowy figure as described in "Emily Rose" or as a so called "trickster" in some tales. An interesting case involved the author, a biologist, a police officer, an engineer and an airline pilot all of which, according to Phil composed the "dream team". The story is spine tingling and as scary as any horror movie (it should be made into a movie!). I will leave that story for the reader, but beware. Another study involved a woman, who under hypnosis, spoke of contacts with aliens. The facts are eerily similar to those found in the movie "The Fourth Kind", which supposedly is fictitious according to some reports. Angels, as messengers, is a great relief when compared to the to the stories involving jinn. Here the author goes into a brief background of angels which includes writings called angel script. Several cases are cited regarding angels.
    The final section is about extraterrestrials and cattle mutilations, sky critters, spook lights, sightings of UFOs, multidimensional universe, string theories, super strings and other dimensional possibilities. Phil has a masters degree in physics, so he knows the material very well. I'm sure he catches some flack from his colleagues, but the reader will realize the depth of his analyses in these many cases.
    The last part of the book provides a detailed analysis of experiences in two categories: 1) extraterrestrial and 2) Interdimensional and psychic involving 342 cases. There are several appendixes as well. The material in this book will be viewed different by many of the readers. Some may call it a series of hoaxes. Some may call them fiction of fraudulent, while others will accept the cases as real encounters with beings from another dimension or other world or even with angels and jinn. In the end, each reader must form his own conclusions and search his own soul or beliefs. One thing is certain. You will find the author to be very credible and very ethical. Maypeace be with you in your journey.
    4-0 out of 5 stars WOW
    VERY interesting read.It brings to light some very good points to ponder and to me, it supports the theory that other dimensions are quite plausible as is travel and communication between them.
    4-0 out of 5 stars Almost Made it to a Theory of Everything....
    I will start by saying that this book fit in well with several threads I have been following after reading three other books that I highly recommend. The first two are, "The Siren Call of Hungry Ghosts" by the later Joe Fisher and "Walking Through Walls" by Phillip Smith. These two books deal in a very well documented way with the effects and possible repercussions of "Spirit Channeling" and who these "Spirits" might be. The last is the "The Hunt for Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Ranch in Utah" by Colm Kelleher and George Knapp. As stated in the title this is a scientific study and it studies a geographic area that has been known for centuries as a very strange place by the local Indians.
    So what do all of these things have in common with this book? They all present sides of what could be either the same "UFO" phenomenon, as this author appears to state, or an intriguing picture that requires that a few more blanks be filled in. In short, he backs up his ideas about dimensional travel using references to UFO encounters that center on certain places with strange magnetic fields, but the big picture may be more intriguing.
    If you read Skinwalker, you learn that just about everything from strange "bigfoot" like animals to voices coming through stereo units without power, cattle mutilations and orbs seem related to things that emerge from strange "tunnels that appear and disappear". This would explain why creatures such as the Jersey Devil and Bigfoot don't die and leave bones behind. This book documents similar incidents. Together, these two books create a very convincing picture of what may be going on worldwide.
    If you accept the evidence presented by this book and Skinwalker, you might then wonder about the aspect that I've always felt keeps people from believing in aliens of any kind, Religion. If aliens exist, then surely they could have been the angels from the bible and provided the fiery chariots and burning bushes. There goes the "loving God" and "safe afterlife" and with it fear of death comes roaring into the picture. Is is any wonder that people don't want to see UFOs??
    What does the book have to say about the relationship between religion and UFO's? Quite a lot, but it is the weaker part of the book. The section that equates Angels with tall Nordic looking aliens makes good sense, however imposing a biblical hierarchy on them (think Cherubim, Seraphim, Dominions etc.)and claiming to have mysterious bits of "angelic" writing and a mostly "good" agenda was going a bit to far. He completely steps off his otherwise well referenced "wagon" when he gets to the Jinn, who he casts as demons, using several encounters which seem questionable after you read Fishers book.
    If you read Skinwalker, there are "sulphur" and chemical odors associated with the strange dimensional tunnels. This could be why that element is mentioned in association with what people have long thought of as "demons". But his references to these Jinn are not of that kind and they are mixed with referencesto the "Men in Black" who show up to shut down UFO folks who get too close to some truth. When describing his Jinn phenomenon he mentions that MIB visit one of his doomed researchers, but doesn't weigh it against his "evidence". While it certainly must have been frightening to have so many of his co-workers die on the "jinn" investigation, he does not make much out of the mix of strange events which include finding "backwards talking" on a tape recorder he was using to interview a mother and her daughter who were the target of suspected "alien attack".
    I was surprised that he had to go to a specialist to identify someone talking backwards. I think most of us could identify the jumble of a tape played backwards and to my knowledge this phenomenon was introduced as an "easy" special effect in the movie "The Exorcists" and doesn't really have much of a demonic history. The fact that whoever or whatever was bothering these people used it would suggest to me that it had more in common with those "Men in Black" trying to keep the investigators away from whatever they had been studying, perhaps for generations.
    I'm not big on conspiracy theories, but the military has used civilians to study the effects of drugs like acid and various types of demoralizing mind control before. History is marred by such government studies as the "The Tuskegee Syphilis Study" where the government used innocent people for medical research, studying the course of their untreated disease from 1942 through 1972. It made sense to me that something very human could be behind the episodes. His other reference to the Jinn being channeled, sounded very much like one of Fisher's accounts of some "spirit" trying to gain control by pretending to be a guide.
    If is useful to talk briefly about Fisher's book here. His investigations led to the premise that channeled entities are probably spirits of the dead who are afraid to go on for one reason or another and frequently impersonate authority figures. When we look at some of the "Near Death Experience" records, its seems that there is support for a "spirit" existing. The main point here is that Imbrogno's book lumps a "spirit channeling" incident together with physical evidence, when they can be two separate and unrelated events. If a "spirit world" exists do they have a better knowledge of other dimensions, perhaps enough to fake an impersonation of someone important? This is getting far away from what can be proven, but the conjectures made about the Jinn in this section of the book are equally hard to prove.
    If you put all this together, what you get is that have probably always been part of our world and can use our fears to scare us. This neither confirms nor denies the existence of some universal law or the existence of an afterlife for those who are afraid of losing it. All three can exist together and/or as aspects of each other. The mind just needs to expand to hold it all. It is probably good that the aliens didn't drop this concept on Cavemen. Read the books mentioned along with this one and draw your own conclusions! I for one am hoping they show up to take over the banking industry!
    Product Description
    This is the 2nd volume in Richard Dolan's series, "UFOs and the National Security State," which covers all aspects of the UFO phenomenon from the 1940s to the present day. Volume 2, "The Cover-Up Exposed, 1973-1991," analyzes the UFO sightings, politics, and research that occurred during the last two decades of the cold war.Working from archival sources, professional journals, and his own investigations, Dolan describes UFO encounters worldwide, demonstrating that the phenomenon is global, and the result of advanced technology.Many cases involved sensitive military airspace. These include intrusions over American and Canadian air bases; attempts to intercept a UFO over Tehran; the landing of an unknown object near two airbases in Britain; large boomerang-shaped craft near New York City; unexplained triangular craft seen throughout the U.S. and Europe; strange objects in Earth orbit seen by Soviet and American astronauts; and encounters with UFOs from around the world. Dolan also studies "UFO politics," describes the black-budget connection, and provides a geopolitical analysis to explain the whys and hows of UFO secrecy. Finally, he provides a history of UFO research itself. He recreates the discussions and debates concerning alien abductions, animal mutilations, intelligence community infiltration into UFO research, the controversial MJ-12 documents, the Gulf Breeze controversy, reverse engineering of alien technology, crop circles, and more. Dolan also studies the effect of such new technologies as the Internet on UFO research.This is a complete history of the phenomenon, the secrecy, and the response by researchers who sought to understand the mystery. Behind it all is the backdrop of a world in technological, economic, and political transformation. "UFOs and the National Security State: The Cover-Up Exposed, 1973-1991," takes the reader through a turning point in the history of the UFO phenomenon, as well as the history of the modern world. ...     5-0 out of 5 stars Best book ever written on the subject of UFOs
    This is the best history book of the subject of UFOs ever written. Dolan is a great writer and researcher. Most people are totally uneducated on this subject. This book clearly shows that alien spacecraft are real and that all the governments lie about it. Looking forward to his new book After Disclosure. Dolan is the best.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Masterful Chronicle
    This is the second of a projected three-volume history of UFOs and their impact on our "national security state."Here,Richard Dolan improves on Volume I -- a fine piece of work itself.Year by year,from 1973 to 1991,he weaves together the unfolding,interconnectedstory of: (a) Significant UFO incidents,not only here in USA but around the world;(b) Impact of UFO incidents on national security policies and attitudes,and,in turn,the impact of those policies and attitudes on responses to the UFO phenomenon itself;(c) The growing possibility that some UFOs are "ours," resulting from recovery of crashed 'saucers,'and even aliens themselves.(d) Progress and conflict within the UFO research 'community;and (e) How secrecy,disinformation,and possible intelligence-agency operations affect what we think we know about the phenomenon.
    A large order,to be sure.But Dolan is fully in command of the field and its sources.It's a shame that this and the earlier volume won't reach a much larger audience.That's another way of saying it's a shame mainstream culture and media continue to ignore or scoff at such a critically important factor in our recent history.
    I'm already looking forward to Dolan's third volume.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Dolan's excellent thesis pulls it all together and indulges in a little plausible speculation
    When the author spoke to me in Washington DC in April 2009 about this, the then-unpublished middle-volume of his planned three-volume history of the UFO phenomenon and its management by the "National Security State", he was pleased with the result. This second book, he felt, was a more coherent narrative than the first in presenting a clearly argued and compelling case for the existence of the worldwide cover-up and also in exploring the real nature of the "black world", what might be going on behind the scenes with deconstructing ET-derived technology and where it might all be leading. His tentative conclusions for the consequences of secrecy and for the future are as radical as they are intriguing.
    Readers may be aware that Dolan originally planned to write a two-volume history of "UFOs and the National Security State." The first volume covered the years 1947-73 and has become a minor classic. However, he soon discovered that the quantity of pertinent material and documentation from 1973 onwards was too great to accommodate into a single book, so has divided the narrative into two further volumes. This is to be the middle one of the series, covering 1973-91 and concluding with the geo-political changes following the end of the Cold War with the dissolution of the USSR in 1989-91 and its impact on how the ET-UFO issue was subsequently managed.
    The book follows a broadly chronological narrative from 1973 to 1991 and is on one level an excellent summary of the open history of the UFO phenomenon in this period. Dolan takes a global perspective and explores major encounters and the interactions of UFOs with the air forces and military of different nations, particularly the Soviet Union, and how effectively these events were media-managed. The efforts of Grenada's Prime Minister Eric Gairy to bring the UFO issue to the UN and a detailed examination of the Belgian black-triangle wave are particularly noteworthy examples.
    The development of UFOlogy through the period is analyzed with just the right amount of detail. Leonard Stringfield's original revelations about the alleged crash-retrieval and cover-up of alien artefacts, the disinformation campaign behind the MJ-12 documents and the professional debunking campaigns of Philip Klass are some examples. The extravagant and unsubstantiated claims of Cooper and Lear are placed in historical context; the Hudson Valley and Gulf Breeze waves, LMH's exposure of the cattle mutilations and the parts played by Budd Hopkins, Whitley Strieber and others in this period in exposing the abduction phenomenon for the first time are all written in a factual, informed and non-judgmental style which makes for absorbing reading. Dolan makes a convincing case that the birth of the internet had the most enormous and significant impact ever on UFOlogy, and changed it permanently.
    Dolan has been criticised by more skeptical commentators for some of his methodology - the citing of a few "dead" references, use of uncorroborated (i.e. evidentially weaker) sightings and of course, his "Grand Conspiracy" narrative. There is some small merit in these criticisms, but Dolan always makes clear when he is reporting factually and when he is cautiously speculating.
    The "Grand Conspiracy" narrative comes from the author's attempt to tie together the 60-year UFO cover-up, the evidence of appropriation of trillions of dollars by the "black world" to develop radical new aero-technologies derived from retrieved alien vehicles (possibly with assistance from actual Earth-based extraterrestrials), and the various informal international organizations promoting globalization. It is the author's view that during this period, evidence of the manufacture and deployment of new technologies derived from ET sources emerged: the goings-on at Area 51/Groom Lake/Dreamland initially reported by Bob Lazar and multiply-witnessed flights over the Nevada desert of vehicles with extraordinary flight characteristics; consistent reports of "Alien Reproduction Vehicles," the legends about the "Aurora" and the use of revolutionary anti-gravity technology in new aircraft like the B2 bomber. There's a lot of stuff on this, from many sources, and if not conclusive then it's certainly compelling. Less compelling is the speculation that organizations broadly promoting globalization and international co-operation such as the Bilderburgers might be party to the ET secret, and be involved in the cover-up in some way. This reviewer finds little compelling evidence presented to support this speculation, and the Rockerfeller Initiative would seem to argue that many "old-money" people know little of what is happening in the "black world" unless directly involved in the development of these new technologies. But the truth is, we just don't know.
    In the concluding chapter, the author writes:
    "Secrecy relating to UFOs was a logical course of action initially that became an addiction the longer it continued. The longer maintained, the harder to reveal, and the greater the gap between official and black world societies. One might therefore think that this secrecy, which continues to this day, is bound to last indefinitely."
    This line of reasoning, together with evidence for the secret development and deployment of ET-derived technology so advanced that it has little relationship to that known in open society, Dolan claims argues for the possible existence of a "breakaway civilization" grown in secret, whose understanding of concepts such as time, matter, advanced physics, gravity, human consciousness and mind control may now be decades ahead of the mainstream culture and its current academic paradigms. Different civilizations with different levels of scientific understanding have, he argues, existed simultaneously on this planet in the past and had few or no points of contact. No doubt the author will develop this hypothesis in his third book, which will take the history up to the present day and to which we should look forward with interest.
    It's important to state that the author ends the book on a broadly optimistic note, and sees the cover-up to be impossible to maintain indefinitely as for example a spectacular mass sighting witnessed by thousands of people might be undeniable in the internet age of instant global information-sharing, and that will be the end of it. The human race as a whole will then need to confront its future with new paradigms, whether ready or not.
    Meanwhile, if you have not read "...The Cover-up Exposed", it's time you did. At 583 densely-written pages (excluding the extensive bibliographies and index) it can be intimidating, but don't be put off. It's beautifully written by an intelligent, informed and literate writer, it's worth the effort and time, and if you're interested at all in the most important subject of the age, you should read it.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and eye-opening!
    This is perhaps the most disturbing book on the subject of UFO's that I have read up to this point. The research is clear and the ramifications will put a damper on those whose lives are "comfortable" and "self-satisfied." I would strongly recommend this book to anyone who genuinely wants to understand "big brother" and the internal workings of the UFO coverup.
    4-0 out of 5 stars More of the same (and that's a good thing) with a little extra
    So here's the second volume of this huge undertaking.Mr. Dolan continues to provide lots of great documentation of events that aren't supposed to have happened.He is more prone to speculation in this volume, something I've also noticed in his recent presentations on the topic.He maintains that interpretation of the facts is part of a historian's job.I would suggest that this is true in most areas, but with a topic this controversial, I'd say its better to play it safe.Nonetheless, it's a great book and clearly well thought out.There's a huge amount of time and energy represented here. ...     Product Description
    When United Airlines workers reported a UFO at O'Hare Airport in November 2006, it was met with the typical denials and hush-up that usually accompany such sightings. But when a related story broke the record for hits at the Chicago Tribune's website, it was clear that such unexplained objects continued to occupy the minds of fascinated readers. Why, wonders Thomas Bullard, don't such persistent sightings command more urgent attention from scientists, scholars, and mainstream journalists?
    The answer, in part, lies in Bullard's wide-ranging magisterial survey of the mysterious, frustrating, and ever-evolving phenomenon that refuses to go away and our collective efforts to understand it. In his trailblazing book, Bullard views those efforts through the lens of mythmaking, discovering what UFO accounts tell us about ourselves, our beliefs, and the possibility of visitors from beyond.
    Bullard shows how ongoing grassroots interest in UFOs stems both from actual personal experiences and from a cultural mythology that defines such encounters as somehow "alien"--and how it views relentless official denial as a part of conspiracy to hide the truth. He also describes how UFOs have catalyzed the evolution of a new but highly fractured belief system that borrows heavily from the human past and mythic themes and which UFO witnesses and researchers use to make sense of such phenomena and our place in the cosmos.
    Bullard's book takes in the whole spectrum of speculations on alien visitations and abductions, magically advanced technologies, governmental conspiracies, varieties of religious salvation, apocalyptic fears, and other paranormal experiences. Along the way, Bullard investigates how UFOs have inspired books, movies, and television series; blurred the boundaries between science, science fiction, and religion; and crowded the Internet with websites and discussion groups. From the patches of this crazy quilt, he posits evidence that a genuine phenomenon seems to exist outside the myth.
    Enormously erudite and endlessly engaging, Bullard's study is a sky watcher's guide to the studies, stories, and debates that this elusive subject has inspired. It shows that, despite all the competing interests and errors clouding the subject, there is substance beneath the clutter, a genuinely mysterious phenomenon that deserves attention as more than a myth. ...     "I have the highest regard for Good's absolute integrity, his determination and skill as a researcher, and his wide and detailed knowledge of the whole fascinating UFO experience."-Lord Hill-Norton, Britain's former chief of defense
    Fact: In 1945, the US military recovered an alien spacecraft. Fact: The United States shot down several flying disks in the late 1940s, a period marked by an unprecedented wave of unexplained aircraft crashes.
    The facts have continued only to mount over the past six decades in the classified files of military and intelligence agencies worldwide. Pilots the world over have reported incidents with UFOs that have often been accompanied by electrical interference and communications difficulties. UFOs have prompted more secrecy and security-and deception-than any other concern ever on the part of military specialists and intelligence chiefs around the world. An acknowledged authority on the controversial subject of UFOs, and an indefatigable researcher, Timothy Good in this revelatory book tells us what we need to know.
    Timothy Good is widely regarded as one of the world's top experts on alien phenomena, which has led to speaking engagements at the Pentagon's Defense Airborne Reconnaissance Office and the headquarters of the French Air Force. His first book, Above Top Secret, is widely regarded as the definitive book on the subject.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Need To Know
    Great book.A serious, factual compendium of UFO events that have been documented.There can be no doubt that we've been "visited" on countless occasions and that the facts have been suppressed for generations. It is about time that we learn these truths.
    This is not the kind of book that you cannot just sit and read cover to cover; there is far more documentation than one can digest but at a small rate; a chapter or two at a time.
    Thank you Timothy Good for sharing.We are definitely not alone......
    3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting reading material - but I'm not convinced
    I've been very curious about the UFO phenomena and searched online for a good book. This book came highly recommended on Amazon web site so I decided to purchase it. I consider myself an open minded person and a critical thinker.
    Overall, I paid a lot of attention to the sources at the end of each chapter. Some of them are news paper articles. So essentially you have this book which quotes lots of other articles (which in turn may quote another article, etc...). While newspapers/media are the way most of us know about what is happening in the world, it is not uncommon to find biased/half-truth/distorted articles even these days on much less controversial issues - even from what some people refer to as "credible newspapers". However, some of the sources are from government archives which is interesting but non of them are really conclusive (though black ink parts does make one wonder what was written there).
    What really drew my attention was what I refer to as "logic gaps":
    * on page 80, the 3rd paragraph refers to the fact that our atmosphere is not something the aliens can really live in. Page 162, first paragraph also makes a mention of this fact. Then on page 118, the author finds it unlikely that a UFO could be damaged from a meteorite. Now let me get this straight, aliens are running into problems developing ways to be in our atmosphere but a meteorite cannot puncture a hole in a UFO? It seems to me like it is much easier to have a "spacesuit" than to develop a something super hard that it could stop a very fast moving object (potentially with a large mass).
    * page 422 refers to aliens giving us technology. The aliens are helping us with science willingly? Hmmmmmm..... doesn't really make sense. Otherwise, they could just lend us a few of their crafts along with the blue prints. Why are they doing it? No practical theories.
    * There are several references and conclusions that it is likely that UFOs started appearing after/during World War 2 especially due to the use of atomic bombs. I also read about it elsewhere. It seems that nobody takes into account that during World War 2, major advancements in aviation were made and there were ten thousands of planes up in the air with large crews. Also, the emergence of radar occurred. If UFOs exist, it seems to me that these two facts are more likely to explain why more UFOs were observed.
    * The previous section regarding aviation advancement, along with jet propulsion and missile testing, may very well accommodate a lot of sightings. Jet planes were not as common then as they are today.
    * There are definitely high ranking officials mentioned in the book and also elsewhere that have come forward. However, there have been such cases from famous and high ranking officials which were not UFO related - some people like attention, have a hidden agenda, or trying to make a quick buck. I haven't seen concrete evidence as of yet.
    * These days, digital cameras are everywhere, especially in phones (even though they are of lower quality). It seems to me that the fact that they are available and lots of people have them, should have increased dramatically the likelihood of photographing UFOs and in relatively good quality. Whether touring the middle of the desert or while traveling on the plane for vacation, if UFOs are occasionally seen, it is likely that in many encountered there would be someone with a camera and we would see more "proof". But I don't think this has really happened.
    It is my personal opinion that if indeed UFOs exist, then they are not a "scientific phenomena" but simply a "phenomena" much like conventional aircrafts are a "phenomena". I think that the best person to investigate is someone with such background (likely to be a cop/detective) who can verify integrity of witnesses, alibi, facts on the scene (time and place), and not ask leading questions. While there are people pulling hoaxes out there, there are those which I think genuinely believe they have seen a flying saucer but most likely they want to believe so much that for them it is true. Such a person, should definitely consult with scientists, radar operators, image analysis experts to corroborate and use science where it can help. However, as it is not a crime to see a UFO, most people would probably not like to be interrogated in order to establish their credibility and that is a problem.
    The last page and paragraph (page 427), does give some credit to the government(s) about gradually releasing information and enhancing awareness. Governments are prime candidates of criticism (in many times rightly so) but they do not always conspire against the people and are evil, etc. It seems to me like planet earth has enough problems of its own without adding potential UFOs panic from the population. It could very well be that governments are being very responsible and sensitive due to most of the public not being able to make proper decisions or panic needlessly. I think that these should have deserved a chapter by itself.
    Anyway, I remain unconvinced. Until I see a flying saucer, I won't believe it.
    Addendum: I actually wrote an email to Mr. Good and he replied regarding my comments. I made some minor "fixes" to my review. All in all, it was a civilized exchange of opinions but I am still disagreeing about certain aspects and conclusions (I do hope I am wrong - I would welcome UFOs in open arms :-) ).
    5-0 out of 5 stars Timothy Good delivers the goods.....again
    Good has written some fantastic books on the subject of ufo's and this is one of his best. A great book for people new to the subject AND those of us who spend a great deal of our time obsessed with it. One thing you can count on with his books is that its not going to be a re-hashing of the same old stale stories we've read a thousand times before. Good is the absolute best at digging up new and fascinating information. If you like reading about ufo's read this book, its a gem.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book For Those Interested In UFO's!
    This was a great read! It pretty much draws you in from the very beginning and keeps you wanting to know more. I would definitely suggest this book to anyone who is interested in UFO's...in fact; you must read this if you are. The author does an excellent job of documenting cases and providing FACTS to back them up. This isn't mass hallucinations, or your average civilian cases-these are testimonies of airline pilots, naval officers, air force personnel, etc.. all the way up to the highest echelons in our government who witness these aerial vehicles. With such an abundance of evidence presented in this book the UFO phenomenon, at the very least, deserves a critical look from the scientific community. You won't be disappointed. If you like this book you should check out Interdimensional Universe: The New Science of UFOs, Paranormal Phenomena and Otherdimensional Beings, Night Siege: The Hudson Valley UFO Sightings,UFOs and the National Security State: Chronology of a Coverup, 1941-1973.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Some of the best research you'll ever read
    Tim Good has done a very thorough and professional job in researching and summarizing a hundred or so of the best documented interactions between ET craft and military installations and pilots over the past 60 years. All the cases detailed are multiple-witness with either radar tracking records or otherwise documented official recognition. I had not before realized that the USAF & Navy privately admit to having lost over 8,000 interceptor aircraft in attempting to engage ET craft. How they continue to publicly cover this up as 'training accidents' and such is astounding.
    The book contains sections on some of the high-profile multiple-witness cases of incidents between ET craft and the military in Brazil, in China and the USSR and Mr. Good has gathered a lot of new and deeply researched material.
    If I have one criticism of the book it would be that the necessarily factual and evidence-based reporting of the incidents makes for a rather fragmented narrative, free of speculation and flowing prose. It's a reference book rather than a novel, to be read in bite-sized chunks rather than one long session. As long as you understand this, you'll find the book an eye-opener. It's a work of scientific investigation and of fact, rather than of speculation and opinion.
    Every pilot of my acquaintance either has personal experience of encounters with UFOs, or has friends in the aviation community who have. I have seen them myself on 2 occasions whilst flying. They are seen every day, all over the earth by pilots everywhere. Due to government suppression of sightings and attempts to ridicule witnesses, pilots don't bother reporting them anymore, but certainly they talk to each other. So the extent of interaction over the past 60 years revealed in the book is welcome confirmation. The news media unfortunately colludes with the policy, so the cover-up continues. If the policy is forced to change suddenly, many of the 'flat earthers' in the population who choose to cling to the security offered by redundant belief systems and have hitherto refused to confront the evidence may face a major paradigm shift. The end of inter-human conflict and war? The end of religion as we know it? Let's hope so. ... Read more
    Product Description
    The New York Times bestselling author of Witnessed, Intruders, and Missing Time -- three groundbreaking books on the UFO phenomenon -- returns with astonishing evidence that other-worldly beings are a very real -- and growing -- part of our lives.
    In Sight Unseen, Budd Hopkins and coauthor Carol Rainey show how fascinating discoveries in modern science support the plausibility of the UFO phenomenon.
    Featuring sixteen never-before-published cases, Sight Unseen probes two newly uncovered patterns in alien abduction: cases of UFO "invisibility" and reports of genetically altered alien beings who interact with humans during their routine lives.
    The "invisibility" accounts detailed by Hopkins include numerous daylight abductions in densely populated urban areas -- all apparently unseen and accomplished through a technology of invisibility.
  • Two air force non-coms are snatched from the tarmac of a busy military airfield.
  • An Australian family is levitated up into a hovering craft while the father remains paralyzed on the ground with a camera to his eye. The resulting evidence on film is discussed in terms of our own scientific advances.
    In the second series of cases, abductees report encounters with beings who appear human but apparently possess paranormal powers and stunted emotional ranges.
  • Three young women, unknown to each other, are mysteriously summoned to "job interviews." In ordinary office settings, they encounter human-looking beings who lead them into baffling UFO abduction experiences.
  • A Wisconsin farmer meets "Damoe," a man with odd behavior who closely resembles his son.Damoe eventually reveals himself as an accomplice of UFO occupants in a startling abduction of the farmer and his wife.
  • Five-year-old Jen is abducted at night to a nearby playground. There she must teach the techniques and skills of "play" to twelve seemingly identical, quasi-human children.
    Along with these bizarre, first-person stories told by credible people, Hopkins and Rainey explore cutting-edge advances in our own technologies and scientific theories that show how these new UFO patterns could have a concrete basis in contemporary science.
    Included are an examination of cloaking devices for aircraft, mind-control technologies, and teleportation achieved in the lab. Perhaps the most compelling argument to support these cases lies in the startling and controversial new science of transgenics that actually allows for the creation of alien/human beings. ...     4-0 out of 5 stars Offers scientific explanations for the "impossible" claims made by witnesses and contactees.
    This book offers possible scientific explanations for some of the "impossible" claims made by UFO observers/abductees.It's paradigm is geared toward presenting how our current human scientific advances can explain things like invisability and psychic communication.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Proof keeps getting closer
    Alien abduction experiences and the people who report them can be outrageous to say the least. What is done is this book is nothing short of spectacular. The authors have done an excellent job of taking the amazing encounters reported by abductees worldwide and compared them to real world scientific breakthroughs and advanced technology currently being developed and released into our every day lives. Incredible reports of craft disappearing and reappearing, people moving through solid walls while being abducted, people being present but are invisible to other people around them, can all be explained, at least in theory, and in some cases with actual experiments. The experiences and their encounters are becoming more and more believable by the mainstream scientific community as what was previously thought of as impossible science fiction is becoming reality.
    4-0 out of 5 stars A Very Detailed Look at the Not-So-Looked At Side
    This is the first book i've come across that focuses primarily on the Unseen side of UFOs. When I say unseen, I'm talking about abductions. Abductions aren't really talked about as much as the typical alien topics (UFOs and spaceships, life on other planets, and the conspiracy stuff of course). Maybe it's because the thought of being taken from your home and having objects stuffed up your nose and needles put through your stomach doesn't appeal to people. I dunno. But I do know that this book brings that scene to a head. The author primarily talks about 4 specific cases, with your personal interview here and there in between. In these cases he takes a look at -How aliens can be completely unseen in an abduction, abductions can happen anytime not just at night in your bed, the strong possibility of an "Already amongst us" race of human-like aliens, personal accounts of people who have had close contact with these humanoids all their life and have not even known it, and finally paints a vivid picture of both non-tramatic abductions and extremely tramatic abductions that will change your life forever.
    As for the readibility of this book, personally I thought the beginning was fantastic. The middle was a bit slow and I actually stopped reading for a few weeks and went to a few other books. The end is absolutely horrifying and attention-holding like nothing I've ever read before on this subject and shows you just how real an abduction is.
    Overall a good book and a must read for anyone looking to learn more about the ever-elusive, alien abduction.
    2-0 out of 5 stars "You'll see it when you believe it"
    "I want to believe." Isn't that the poster that Fox Mulder has in his office? Well, I want to believe too, I love the mystery and the perversity of aliens and UFO's. But after reading Sight Unseen, I'm afraid I'm still not seeing it.
    There's a number of issues with this book, which would could be answered easily if I just believed from the start.But I'm still a skeptic searching for some evidence beyond the author's regular use of hypnotic regression of alleged abductees. This is just not going to do it for me.And despite several interestingdiscussions about how new science breakthroughs and theories could explain abductions, aliens, and even hybrids.(and I don't mean cars)it's still far from convincing - lots of circumstantial evidence at best.
    But the clincher for me is the quality of illustrations allegedly sketched by the alien abductees.As a professor of first year college art students, I have viewed and evaluated literally thousands of drawings.And quite frankly the sketches in the book are simply too good. The linear perspective is such that I wish I could teach some of my students to be so accomplished.Same for the details and proportions - all too good for the typical non-drawing person.Unless the aliens are teaching their abductees how to draw as well.
    I forced myself to finish the book, hoping for some really convincing evidence.But, sorry.While the authors made a good attempt to tie the possibility of invisibility and levitation, and even time travel as ways to explain aliens - I'm still blind.
    "The truth is out there"but I don't see it in Sight Unseen.Sorry.But, then again, if I was a believer, the book would substantiate my beliefs.It's sort of like religion - you'll see it as the truth - when you believe it.
    5-0 out of 5 stars An Amazing and Startling Read
    Sight Unseen presents some of the most fascinating information on the UFO phenomenon to date. This book is well-written and well-researched, and it offers several plausible theories with a genuine and passionate desire to uncover the truth. Not only do Hopkins and Rainey make good use of abductee testimony, but they also combine what the experiencers have seen, felt, and heard with real life scientific data. Simply remarkable.
    As I read this study of UFOs and their passengers, I couldn't help but to ask myself why such wonderfully advanced creatures would traverse tremendous distances just to examine human beings. Why would they bother involving themselves with us when there are much more delightful and complex things in this universe? I suppose it does make sense after all, however. We, as humans, are the highest form of life on Earth and yet we expend vast resources to understand lower forms of life. And I believe all of us at one time or another have dreamed about encountering life from other worlds, even if it was mere bacteria. We are astounded by this amazing engine, this stunningly beautiful gift that is life. Who would not choose to reach out for it?
    I believe the authors of this book did a superb job of expressing this confusing, contradictory subject. Although I remain skeptical of witness testimony and hypnotic regression, I certainly do admit that some convincing arguments are made here. Definitely, definitely worth a read if you can keep your mind open. ... Read more
    Product Description
    Today, 46 years after the UFO abduction of Betty and Barney Hill, more and more people are convinced that UFOs are real and their existence is being covered up by the government. If you have doubts or questions about the Hill case or alien experiences in general, Captured! will give you the answers you're searching for.
    The 1961 abduction of the Hills stirred worldwide interest, primarily because of the book The Interrupted Journey, the subsequent media coverage, and a 1975 TV movie, The UFO Incident. The case is mentioned in almost all UFO abduction books. It also became a target for debunkers, who still attack it today.
    But the complete story of what really happened that day, its effect on the participants, and the findings of investigators has never been told...until now.
    In Captured! you'll get an insider's look at the alien abduction, previously unpublished information about the lives of the Hills before and after Barney's death in 1969, their status as celebrities, Betty's experiences as a UFO investigator, and other activities before her death in 2004.
    Kathleen Marden, Betty Hill's niece, shares details from her discussions with Betty and from the evidence of the UFO abduction. She also looks at the Hills' riveting hypnosis sessions about their time onboard the spacecraft. The transcripts of these sessions provide insight into the character of the aliens, including their curiosity, their democratic discussions, and their desire to avoid inflicting pain.
    In addition, co-author, physicist, and ufologist Stanton T. Friedman, the original civilian investigator of the Roswell Incident, reviews and refutes the arguments of those who have attacked the Hill case, including the star map Betty Hill saw inside the craft and later recreated. ...     5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond "Incredible Journey"
    I hadpreviously read and was enthralled by "The Interrupted Journey," John Fuller's book about the Hill's abduction.This book, co-written by Betty Hill's niece and by a physicist who is the arguably the world's most preeminent UFO investigator, goes way beyond Fuller's book. It introduces considerable new evidence (which had formerly been privy only to the Hill family), responds very effectively to criticisms of the book, andoffers compelling scientifically based analysis in support of the Hill's case. This is THE book for those wishing to delve into the Hill Abduction data deeply, and not just read a good story.
    This book provided me with some of the most stimulating and enlightening reading that I've had in years.Congratulations to the authors for such brilliant research and such elegant, brilliant, gripping writing!
    5-0 out of 5 stars Classic Abduction case that is still in the mystery
    The Betty and Barney Hill Abduction experience is the most famous case in this field and still semms to remain as one of the most controversial topics. I personally feel they sincerely told what they really believed to have experienced although I am not sure it was the experiences in the physical world or in their mind (under some mind-control by Alien or other Earth people). Anyway,I think we should be open-minded and keep trying to understand what really happened to them.
    2-0 out of 5 stars Closed Minds of the Believers
    I am strongly interested in paranormal studies, particularly ufos.This book started out very good.It was thorough, gave impressive evidence (or statements which can actually be as useful) and to the point (no silly filler material).But after discussing the adbuction, they seem to run out of material and just mention the word of mouth supposed ufo encounters.These make for good fun on the subway but dont amount to much.
    The book falls into the trap of trying to much to be exciting and not spend much time researching the further sightings.I give the authors credit for point out Mrs. Hill did get alittle carried away with her sightings later on ...but they are glad to write about them as if they were full documented.
    What took this from a three or four star book though was the chapter on "Disbelievers and Disinformants". I almost dropped it to one star on this one.It was like watching Fox news attack liberals for everything.The authors clearly have a dislike of skeptics.First why can't they just call them skeptics instead of disbelievers ?Suddenly they all sound brainwashed and one of the most documented and groundbreaking incidents is tainted.From there its just like watching your favorite football team try to get back into the game after a reallly bad fumble.
    Not only do they waste a lot of time trying to discredit skeptics like Carl Sagan, they even go so far as to go after some with alternative theories about ufos and hence hurt their own evidence (whether ufos are from outspace...or inner space does it matter? what matters is that something is happening that is outside of normal experience). And with that they fall into the trap of trying to understand ufos with current technology and science.The fact that Zeta Reticuli is over 30 light years away is a screen argument.If your read books like "Angels and Aliens", you will see that its possible that another (likely "advanced" )civilization is not limmited by travel through space in time in the normal sense (and I dont mean Worm Holes).
    There are hints in the case of the Hills that in fact the supposed "abductors" could have indeed been communicating via the psychological realm (their invisibility, their "pranks", etc).I was disappointed this was not covered more as I am more and more lead to support the notion that "aliens" are indeed all in the mind as they say...except the mind is much more complicated...and has more effect on the physical world...than to just dismiss it as hallucinations of the mind.
    What if concisousness was like a gelatinous globe with the physical world covering it.As we go further deeper into our borrowed part of consciousness we may meet other beings or they may travel to us.Maybe the distance from New York to Moscow is not nearly as far when you are deeper down undergound.Point A and B are much closer as you get deeper inside the globe.
    4-0 out of 5 stars The Interrupted Journey additional details
    The book contains much additional information about the supposed abduction of the Hill couple. The book is partially a biography of the couple. Their jobs and civic activities gone into in detail. I enjoyed learning about Betty's involvement in the UFO field, especially her contacts at Pease AFB. Her additional sightings, poltergeist-like activities in her home and others, the men in black all added a better understanding of her situation. Her attitude went from scientific to subjective and accepting of questionable phenomena. The biography was not interesting to me. Many things in the book were repetitive. I couldn't believe the authors had others proof-read the book and it still was structural off. I also noticed errors made by the publishers. I still give the book 4 stars. The UFO meat of the book is excellent. I purchased this book at the Mutual UFO Network's (MUFON) Conference in Denver 2009. I met Stanton Friedman again and he signed the book for me. Thanx. For a different view of the "star map" see MUFON's UFO Journal August 2009. Maverick
    3-0 out of 5 stars Flawed but Welome Book
    I am an avid collector and reader of books on this subject. The Hill Case has long deserved to be re-visited again in these times. The original Fuller book, the Interrupted Journey, is a classic but suffered from the times it wass written in. There were details that were known then but could not be discussed in the 1960's as they can now.
    I enjoyed how a lot of the gaps in the story were filled in as well as giving rather interesting biographical information on the Hills.
    The issue I have with the book is that it spends a lot of time in too much detail about things that don't matter to the narrative and fighting debunkers. Using many pages "proving" that a now empty space over the door frame of a rest room at a restaurant orignally held the actual clock that Betty looked at over 40 years ago wasn't the great revelation that Friedman thinks it is. He also comes off as a bit too touchy over the debunkers concerns and goes into them in excruciating detail. Both of these type of things take up nearly half of the book.
    Friedman doesn't take on the obvious questions about the case that have been brought up over the years because he takes things at face value. He takes everything that the "aliens" say and do without any thought of how they may be devious or deceptive. The so called "Star Map" that they showed to Betty is to Friedman an actual map. He doesn't ask the question as to why these beings show Betty a map from her perspective. He doesn't ask why on one hand the "leader" cannot understand what time is as Betty discusses it with him when only minutes the same leader says to her (paraphrase)"We need to hurry as we haven't much time left!". Surely this and many other of the "edges" ask for some analysis.
    Knowing his work it is pretty much what I expected.
    The author is eager to please us. Well, he did.
    A small but adequate reference book. Plenty of good stuff.
    Needs a little bit more work, considering the important place, the author occupies in ufology.
The team of GordonChism and Richard M. Dolan melds philosophical theory and historicalscholarship to present an easy-to-read, entertaining, and informativework.Chism shares his personal UFO sighting and his struggle with peergroup dismissal. His experience caused him to wonder why people sooften reject new ideas and new perspectives of reality. The bookweaves his conclusions together with researched accounts of worldwidesightings and the government and military response. A key source forthis history was Dolan's 2002 volume, "UFOs and the National SecurityState."The authors recognize that our human centric view of the cosmos isnot serving our planet well. A society based on falsehoods is not theway to move ahead. Acknowledging the truth of UFOs would be a step inthe right direction. As Gordon Chism suggests, doing so might justbring us to a new "Age of Reason." ... Read more
    5-0 out of 5 stars "Once again..."
    Gordon Chism has once again written a book that is interesting, thought provoking, and educational.He has not only given information new to many readers; he gives ideas of what to write to our Washington representatives, in hopes of freeing information about UFOs.I think the best recommendation I can state is - I have just ordered another book to give as a gift.Thank you, Gordon, for another book that has given me new ideas and opened new paths of thinking for me.
    5-0 out of 5 stars An intriguing read
    As long as there is terrestrial human life, the existence of extraterrestrial life in the universe is a debate that will likely rage on until humanity has fully explored the universe, or a sapient species is finally encountered. "The Thinking Person's UFO Book" offers thoughts on the subject from author Gordon Chism, a believer in the existence of UFOs. Pointing out that humanity's primitive instincts predispose them to bury their heads in the sand, "The Thinking Person's UFO Book" is worth a look for an intriguing read.
    4-0 out of 5 stars The Thinking Person's UFO Book
    First, and perhaps most importantly, this is a good read.Gordon Chism starts with the knowledge that UFOs are real -- because he saw one when he was young.Chism presents an interesting review of UFOs over the past 60 years, which, while far from unique, is productive.He is deeply sceptical about the government's handling of UFO situations, and he provides considerable evidence to support this.If the reader didn't mistrust the Feds prior to reading this book, he or she is very likely to afterward.
    A weakness, in my opinion, is the lack of specific attribution for the case sutdies or sightings.While the casual reader won't care, following up would be difficult.
    At the end, the author provides suggested letters and contacts for the reader to use in urging Congress to free up UFO data.While I couldn't agree more, I am too cynical to believe this would work.Still, no harm in trying.
    5-0 out of 5 stars Flying Objects, known and unknown
    This book is a triumph! Mr. Chism's latest work brings together several aspects of extra-terrestrial visitation activity -- a subject that, hitherto, I had not spent much time thinking about.
    The author establishes his bona fides up front by telling of his own UFO encounter. If he is correct when he asserts that he and countless thousands of other earthlings have witnessed UFOs and/or closer encounters, then I have to accept that several other folks that I know are keeping mum about their own UFO sightings. Why would this be the case?
    Religious people often share their own socially acceptable supernatural beliefs. Belief in the existence of UFOs is shared less frequently, apparently because it isn't socially acceptable.
    All in all a good read and informative. Kudos are due Mr. Chism.
    4-0 out of 5 stars SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
    Although Mr. Chism is obviously no stranger to such terms as "Quantum Entanglement," "Holographic Universes," "Remote Sensing", and other such sterile scientific terminology his approach to the subject of UFO's is pleasingly eloquent in its simplicity.
    Mr. Chism is not overly concerned with the scientific reasoning behind anti-gravitational galactic travel or, inter-dimensional worlds but, the ability of the human mind to re-group its thought patterns in an effort to simply accept that such things can, and do exist.
    As a basic premise the author focuses on the fact that "we," humans still rely totally upon our "emotional animal programming" (reptilian core/ limbic system) to analyze and accept what is around us.Those things that we can not comprehend (like UFO's), are subsequently and categorically subconsciously denied.According to the author, our present belief systems are based upon: "Status", "General Consensus", and "Faith/Denial."It is our own egos that dictate what is accepted and... what is not.
    Mr. Chism is espousing that we should shed our skins of ego, self importance, and arrogance in order to initiate a paradigm shift in our belief systems so that, we can finally see ourselves in the "mirror of creation" for what, and who we really are.Then, and only then, will we be able to make headway in assisting ourselves and the "world/ universe" in which we live.
    In order to impress upon the reader that the circumstantial evidence of extraterrestrial life is to great to ignore, the author gives an extensive three part "capsulated" history of UFO cases.This "encyclopedic jaunt" into classical case histories is well meaning but, perhaps too long and repetitious especially, for those of us who have followed the UFO enigma for the last thirty to forty years.
    The author believes (like most of us), that the Government still possesses a great deal of information and is of the opinion that the citizenry of this country should band together and force the various agencies of the Government to open their files to the public through the introduction ofa "UFO Legislation Bill."An active movement of this type according to the author, would ultimately initiate an overall paradigm shift in our ability to better rule and understand ourselves in the future.
    The author's ideals are well meaning and philosophically sound. However, if, our government is "in denial" I can assure you that it is not "sub-conscious" in nature, but...totally and unequivocally conscious on all facets.
    This is a relatively good book and gives the reader a great deal of basic information presentedfrom a different vantage point.It leaves the reader with something to think aboutlong after the covers have been closed .A worthy read.
