Product Description
This series uses a common or well-known element to look at the groups of the periodic table and to show the similarities and differences between elements. It uses full-colour illustration of the periodic table and shows the chemical symbol for each element in place, alongside its neighbours. Chemical formulae for common compounds are also shown. Information boxes and tables contain listings of facts and figures. Chemical reactions are interpreted as word equations, and timelines chart the history and discovery of the elements. ... Product Description
Presented here is a collection of equilibrium constants for both heterogeneous and homogeneous systems which cover the entire periodic table. They are of interest for comparing interactions under different conditions, for example, to compare complexing reactions with various acids. The arrangement of data in this way also facilitates the planning of separations for analysis. It is designed so that the user may consider the behaviour of many elements in a given system simply by checking one periodic table against another. The tables have been divided into categories for ease of reference. ... Read more

Product Description
ILPAC (Independent Learning Project for Advanced Chemistry) is a comprehensive and flexible course of study. The series provides complete coverage of A level Chemistry while individual books can be used to support specific topics. This second edition includes revisions which reflect the recently revised syllabuses and ensures that the information is up-to-date. The original units have been combined into 12 books which retain particular features of the first edition, to help students structure their study of the topics. For example, there is a Pre-knowledge section which lists the skills the student will require, while a Pre-test section shows whether further revision is required before beginning. Keywords are intended to help the student to use indexes where further reading is required, and to encourage note-taking. Worked examples are used to explain calculations, and numerous exercises, with detailed answers, can be used to check progress. Teacher-marked exercises give practice in essay-type questions and help the teacher monitor progress. Experiments teach practical skills, illustrate theoretical points and allow the development of investigation skills.Specimen results are provided and mark schemes for practical assessments are included where appropriate. ILPAC 1-6 is a available as a first-year set, and ILPAC 7-12 as a second-year set. Each set has accompanying Teacher's and Technician's Notes. This part of the course covers inorganic chemistry - the s-block elements, the halogens and the periodic table. ... Read more

It guides you through the discovery and isolation of each gas and recent experiments by scientists to make noble gas compounds. It also explains why helium balloons float, neon lights glow and argon atmospheres protect metals from air. ... Read more

Product Description
This educational wall chart features the periodic table of the elements supported by a wealth of chemical, physical, thermodynamical, geochemical and radiochemical data laid down in numerous colourful graphs, plots, figures and tables. The most important chemical and physical properties of the elements can be found - without turning a page. All properties are presented in the form of tables or graphs. More than 40 properties are given, ranging from melting point and heat capacity to atomic radius, nuclear spin, electrical resistivity and abundance in the solar system. Sixteen of the most important properties are colour coded, so that they may be followed through the periodic system at a glance. Twelve properties have been selected to illustrate periodicity, while separate plots illustrate the relation between properties. In addition, there are special sections dealing with units, fundamental constants and particles, radioisotopes, the Aufbau principle, etc. All data on the chart are fully referenced, and S.I. units are used throughout.Designed specifically for university and college undergraduates and high school students, ``Elsevier's Periodic Table of the Elements'' will also be of practical value to professionals in the fields of fundamental and applied physical sciences and technology. The wall chart is ideally suited for self-study and may be used as a complementary reference for textbook study and exam preparation.List of Chemical and Physical Properties presented on the Chart atomic number standard atomic weight ground-state electronic configuration element symbol element name discoverer and year of discovery melting point boiling point critical temperature molar enthalpy of atomization molar enthalpy of fusion molar enthalpy of vaporization atomic energy levels of the outermost three orbitals formal oxidation states selection of standard reduction potentials first molar ionization energy second molar ionization energy third molar ionization energy Pauling electronegativity Allred-Rochow electronegativity molar electron affinity molar volume crystal structures polymorphic transition temperatures atomic radius effective ionic radii volumic mass (density) electrical resistivity thermal conductivity abundance in the solar system abundance in the Orgueil meteorite abundance in the solar photosphere abundance in the continental crust abundance in the primitive mantle abundance in the oceanic crust naturally occurring isotopes: mass number and representative isotopic composition molar heat capacity Debye temperature coefficient of linear thermal expansion price annual mining production world ...Other information presented on the chart introduction and key Aufbau principle: quantum numbers, orbitals and sequence of orbital filling trivial group names drawings of crystal lattice structures 12 plots of a chemical/physical property against atomic number 9 plots of a property against another property list of SI units and SI prefixes list of other units and their conversion to SI list of fundamental physical constants scheme of fundamental particles list of radioisotopes with half-life longer than 5 days, presenting half-life and mode(s) of decay, indicating cosmogenic isotopes and isotopes produced by U-235 fission, as well as radioisotopes used in geochronology, pharmacology and nuclear medicine ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Poor quality and very overpriced
I had assumed that, for the $40+ price, that I would receive a thick, laminated, ready to hang chart. I was very disappointed when the item arrived. It is thin flimsy paper with no method for mounting or hanging. The item description is quite vague, but the price was so high that I assumed... -- very dangerous. This chart should retail in the $10 range -- no more. On the plus side, it is colorful. But you will need to have it mounted or framed before you can use it.

Product Description
This authoritative treatise lists all known chemical hazards, describing and placing them in their chemical context. It is extensively documented, drawing equally from North American and Western European sources on the one hand, and from Eastern European and Russian sources on the other. Information has been culled from research, development, industrial, environmental and medical sources, being fully referenced up to 1992. It deals systematically with the elements, in periodic table order, presenting information on all relevant compounds, with their syntheses and reactions. The comprehensive accounts of the elements contain sections covering: identity and physiochemical properties of the element; natural occurrence and environmental levels; production; uses; man-made sources of emission into the environment; toxicity; absorption, distribution and elimination; hygienic standards; methods of determination, and measures to control exposure. Additionally, the section on remedial measure in poisoning cases is included for most of the compounds. Mechanisms of intake, with dietary requirements and tolerances where relevant, absorption, distribution and elimination are given.Levels in the body and in the environment - soil, atmosphere and oceans - are detailed, as are the effects of exposure, both immediate and long-term, on humans, animals and plants. Domestic and industrial hazards are described, with attention to control at the workplace, remedial first-aid, and long-term corrective medical treatment. There is an extensive appendix which tabulates the physical and chemical properties of the elements and their compounds. ... Read more
