5-0 out of 5 stars A Definite 5 Star Book!
How to deal with skunks and pit bulls! As I read, I figured out strategies for specific situations. Stabotage is for everyone.....

5-0 out of 5 stars An intriguing and empowering read
For an industry about caring for others well being, it sure is cutthroat. "Stabotage!: How to Deal with the Pit Bulls, Skunks, Snakes, Scorpions, & Slugs in the Health Care Workplace" is a book aimed at dealing with the deception and skullduggery involved in, of all things, the health care profession. A guide to dealing with the bullies of the field and standing up for oneself, the lessons presented in the field are not strictly exclusive to health care, as they can be applied to any workplace with a bully. "Stabotage!" is an intriguing and empowering read, a top pick.

5-0 out of 5 stars Attention all health care providers
Judith Briles has done it again!Stabotage is a must read for all those who work in health care and need to learn how to dance with some pitbulls!

5-0 out of 5 stars It's about time!
This book by Dr. Briles is awesome! Not only does she call it like she sees it...she see's it right on the money. Who among us have not encountered those workplace characters that wreak havoc and cause misery for the rest of us? Recognizing these vipers is one thing; resolving matters with them is quite another. Judith brings answers and solutions to the table that all of us could and should use. I love her no nonsense style and her humor. My only critisim is that this book does not only benefit those in the healthcare industry, it's fabulous advice and instruction for all of us trying to make a living and build a career in the corporate world. She rocked it!
Tammy Bleck, author of Single Past 50 Now What?

5-0 out of 5 stars Stabotage!
Dr. Judith Briles' latest book accurately (and somewhat humorously) describes the types of people who populate - and sabotage progress within - the typical workplace. Dr. Briles brilliantly illustrates each style with words designed to resonate with anyone who has encountered "the bad girls and boys". Stabotage! (TM) sabotages the tactics of the workplace saboteur so they can no longer wreak their havoc on the rest of us! Full of helpful information about how to manage such workplace rebels, she also introduces the reader to the new CarefontingScript (TM), designed to change the confrontation outcome. A must have for the "sick" workplace!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not so great...
My 3 year old son got this book for Christmas, and we aren't that impressed with it.The illustrations are all rather similar, but he did like picking out the small background objects that were stuck in the rug.The story is about a bug and a slug who meet in a...you guessed it..rug.They proceed to have a long conversation about their differences. These bugs have quite sophisticated vocabularies and I'm sure my son didn't understand 75% of what they said.My 7 year old read it with us and even she was confused.I did like the way many of things in the bugs' world rhymed with rug...like the pug, for example. However, I think the cleverness of that aspect is sort of lost in all the babble. The book ends with the rug being shaken out in the yard, so the bug and slug go their separate ways. The book didn't impress us much at all and even though my son is literally obsessed with insects he hasn't wanted to read this one again. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars So cute . . . and Useful!
The format and illustrations in this book are great. The book is also of use to gardeners. I have already purchased it for two of my friends as gifts both of whom loved it.A really recommended it as a gift for all your gardener friends with a sense of humor.Or anyone who likes cute slug cartoons!

5-0 out of 5 stars Whimsical, but practical too
Make no mistake, this is a serious informational book about dealing with slugs, albeit with zany, cathartic "methods" mixed in with serious tactics. Where else will you find a slug control guide that is both pratical and emotionally satisfying?

4-0 out of 5 stars little slugs, big laughs
With its small size, its silly cartoons, and its irreverent advice, this book is as much humor as gardner's reference.Would make a great gift for a garden enthusiast, an insect lover, or just about anyone who'd get a kick out of the crazy ways that author Sarah Ford has come up with to combat one of nature's most resiliant -- and annoying -- little pests. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A groundbreaker
I'm an avid scuba diver, and I dive mostly in the Caribbean Sea. I love to photograph macro (small) subjects, especially sea slugs.Unfortunately, it's been difficult to find a single book with a comprehensive collection of Caribbean sea slugs. This book, however, does a very good job of presenting dozens of species and variations with color photographs, description, habitat, and range.

My only quibble is that some of the photos are not the best quality, but I know that some of these species have been rarely photographed, so there may not be a big selection available. That's a minor fault, however.Overall, the book is an invaluable addition to my library, and I'm looking forward to using it to help find and identify sea slugs in the Caribbean.

Highly recommended. ... Read more

Product Description

“Not long ago one of Milwaukee poetry’s young turks, Cook is now simply one of the city’s major poets.”—Milwaukee Magazine

Perfect for people who “don’t like poetry,” Matt Cook’s distinctive writing is Midwestern yet worldly, rooted yet bohemian. His close observations result in poems that resemble a series of punk fortune cookies, a kind of psychedelic horse sense—discovering musicality and humor in cultural information, in family, in writing itself.

“The Modernist Bowling Alley”

The forgotten soul who first separated egg whites.
The homeless man wearing the Superman T-shirt.
Their intentions were clearly understood,
Except when they were unintentional and misunderstood.
The Madagascar moth is no longer destroying the prized sweaters
With anywhere near his previous curve of frequency.
Shoddy construction is now the more critical threat.
The modernist bowling alley will have the futuristic waiting area
Where you can go and wait patiently for the future.
You will see a clock on the wall that doesn’t really look like a clock.
You will distinctly remember having forgotten that before.

Matt Cook is the author of In the Small of My Backyard and Eavesdrop Soup. His work has been featured on NPR’s Fresh Air and The Writer’s Almanac.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's no room for cream...and no need for it, either
Another wonderful collection of approachable poems...

Though I'm a voracious reader, I often shy away from poetry because it's frequently so laden in impenetrable imagery and layering that I take nothing away from it.Don't get me wrong, I enjoy having to think about a poem.I enjoy doing some interpretation.I enjoy wondering if the poem means the same to me as it does to its author. But I do not enjoy needing a pile of reference material and an Orphan Annie Secret Decoder Ring to appreciate a poem.

Enter Matt Cook.

Matt Cook's poems are all approachable.I take something away from all of them. This is not to say they lack sophistication or depth. While some are silly and fun, they are intentionally so, and the better for it.The others are quite intelligent and clever, and I enjoyed pondering some of them at length. But in the end, I could find meaning in all of them.

Cook is more than a wonderful writer; he is quite obviously a wonderful observer as well.He captures in his poems the things we fail to see in life, and my perspective on things changes every time I read one.

I believe you can't go wrong with any one of Cook's poetry collections. So go sit at Alterra and enjoy some poetry...

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous
I absolutley loved this book.We need more poetry like this everywhere.I laughed, I puzzled, I had to read the book several times after receiving it out of sheer joy.I recommend anyone interested in poetry or trying to get others interested in poetry to get this book. The writing is unassuming and delightful. ... Product Description
Joe Weaver, foreman of the Summerlin ranch in Colorado, thinks his biggest problem is keeping the cattle fed over the long, cold winter. He has never been more wrong. Being foreman for Mrs. Summerlin did have its advantages-he was earning wages while he courted Mrs. Summerlin's attractive daughter, Emma. But when rustlers steal the ranch's stock, they also take Emma's brother, twelve-year-old Tommy, and Emma blames Joe for the kidnapping. Joe swears he will bring back Tommy and the missing stock, but he runs into more than he expects.

Several times, Joe believes he has reached the end of his endurance. He is captured by the rustlers and thrown into an abandoned mine shaft with a rattlesnake. His horse, Davey, is stolen and forced to work as a mule at a mining camp. But the final straw is when he finds Tommy chained to a hand-pump car. Joe had sworn to Emma that he would protect Tommy and bring him back safe and sound. That vow was going to be difficult to fulfill. ... Read more
