Product Description
"Frontiers of Propulsion Science" is the first-ever compilation of emerging science relevant to such notions as space drives, warp drives, gravity control, and faster-than-light travel - the kind of breakthroughs that would revolutionize spaceflight and enable human voyages to other star systems. Although these concepts might sound like science fiction, they are appearing in growing numbers in reputable scientific journals. This is a nascent field where a variety of concepts and issues are being explored in the scientific literature, beginning in about the early 1990s. The collective status is still in step 1 and 2 of the scientific method, with initial observations being made and initial hypotheses being formulated, but a small number of approaches are already at step 4, with experiments underway. This emerging science, combined with the realization that rockets are fundamentally inadequate for interstellar exploration, led NASA to support the Breakthrough Propulsion Physics Project from 1996 through 2002."Frontiers of Propulsion Science" covers that project as well as other related work, so as to provide managers, scientists, engineers, and graduate students with enough starting material that they can comprehend the status of this research and decide if and how to pursue it in more depth themselves. Five major sections are included in the book: Understanding the Problem lays the groundwork for the technical details to follow; Propulsion Without Rockets discusses space drives and gravity control, both in general terms and with specific examples; Faster-Than-Light Travel starts with a review of the known relativistic limits, followed by the faster-than-light implications from both general relativity and quantum physics; Energy Considerations deals with spacecraft power systems and summarizes the limits of technology based on accrued science; and, From This Point Forward offers suggestions for how to manage and conduct research on such visionary topics. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Space and The Space Show Give A Resounding Yes To Reading This Book!
This is an exceptional book and a much needed reference book.In addition, as host of The Space Show, both Dr. Davis and Mr. Millis were interviewed about the book and propulsion science on August 3, 2009 for nearly two hours. You can hear the interview at [...]While the science in this book is advanced, each chapter contains a summary that allows the reader to get all the chapter's high points without any difficulty. It's a fabulous tool adding value to this book. There is no la la land fantasy Kool Aid in this book. This is real propulsion science that goes out of the box to discuss and explore how we might be able to someday create a wormhole, mitigate or create antigravity, work with faster-than-light-travel, negative matter, and even accomplish interstellar travel. This book takes the reader to the edge of today's science and much more. You will also appreciate it because it places in one place the cutting edge research by the leading scientists on just how we might accomplish for real that which we read about and see in science fiction and when the sci fi is not real, you find out why and you learn what actually is real.I believe this to be a must read book and an essential research book for anyone with an interest in space development, science, science fiction, space travel, and our future. If you happen to be a student and are on the fence wondering what you should study in school or what careers might be available to you that are exciting and beyond cutting edge, reading this book will likely make up your mind to study the hard sciences and to get involved in the world of propulsion and related science.Listen to Dr. Davis and Mr. Millis on The Space Show and you will quickly understand why there book is the quality I say it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Book of Dreams, Challenges, and Reality
For three decades I taught science.I was even an applicant for the Teacher in Space program.Fortunately, I wasn't selected for the fatal Challenger flight, but like many in my generation, I still waited in vain for the natural follow up to our moon flights - a manned landing on Mars.I dreamed of voyages like that seen on Star Trek too.

In 1997 I began what seemed like an unrelated field of research. There were claims that a predictive Code had been placed in the Torah. The most successful author of a book dealing with the Bible Code thought it was written not by God, but by aliens. By 2004 I had published my own book on the topic (Ark Code), and I had appeared on the History Channel to discuss some of my findings. As I began to read through emails about the TV appearance, I found that a few came from people who were high in our Government, or in a position to know a lot about UFOs based on their placement in NASA.

In exchange for insight into what was really going on, I checked the Torah Codes and published a few Bible Code UFO matrices on my web site.Much of what I heard in return was related to bizarre claims about how UFOs are powered. There came a point at which some of it overlapped what was being asserted in Nick Cook's best seller, The Hunt for Zero Point. However eventually it became clear that I could not address any claims about interstellar propulsion in a serious manner unless I mastered the language and mathematics of the field.

There was, until February, 2009, no textbook that dealt with Breakthrough Propulsion Physics.Frontiers in Propulsion Science quickly wiped out this deficit. Our family is enthralled by the knowledge it offers; and, having read it, I feel like I can actually intelligently answer claims being made about such propulsion systems.

Frontiers is not light reading. Yet despite all the advanced math, it isn't impossible reading for the scientifically curious, but calculus-challenged inquisitor. It is an all encompassing survey of every possible way to reach the stars. While it seems obvious that security considerations probably kept some of the chapter authors from revealing everything that's known about superluminal space travel, worm holes, or anti-gravity; there is enough in the text to keep scientists and mathematicians busy, and productively so, for many years to come. The $130 price tag is cheap admission to the worlds of potential offered here.No home where science is valued should be without a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book ever on new Propulsion Systems
I can not recommend this book strongly enough. It is a delight to read and a big source for any one interested in new propulsion systems. My be "new" is not the proper word for it as most of the propulsion theories and methods are actually dating back to the 2nd World War.The Author Thomas Valone PhD has created something called Integrity Research Institute which is a publishing company for future energies - Zero Point Energy The Fuel of the Future etc. You can write to the Institute and ask for the free CD, it is full of interesting goodies, such as a video clip of a real, huge and rotating UFO-disk filmed somewhere in Bulgaria. I have read Gravitics I and II and recommend them both highly.

3-0 out of 5 stars Kindle version is poor import
The Kindle version of this book is poor to read. Paragraphs are disjointed. Some paragraphs never end with a complete sentence or a period. The biggest problem is between sections 208 and 220. The mathematical formula is missing. This looks like a font is missing. I am using my IPAD to view and type this review. Kindle version is 2.01. This is not a review on the contents of the book. The implementation is the problem.

5-0 out of 5 stars Electrogravitics II: Validating Repports on a New Propulsion Metadology
An excellent overview of the history and current progress of electrogravitics. It is not a do it yourself book.

Product Description
This unique electronic book on CD-ROM has reproductions of technical reports from NASA and General Atomic on Project Orion, an audacious concept involving the sequential detonation of low-yield atomic bombs to propel large spaceships to the planets. These reports were previously secret and have been declassified; they are heavily illustrated with line drawings, charts, graphs, and tables. The concept was abandoned by NASA in the mid-1960s, although there was some discussion of the idea in the late 1990s under the term External Pulsed Plasma Propulsion (EPPP). There is also coverage of other advanced propulsion concepts including fusion and other breakthrough physics technologies. Included in the collection: the multi-volume General Atomic Nuclear Pulse Space Vehicle Study, with illustrated spaceship concepts and planetary flight plans, and concepts for launching the bomb-powered craft atop Saturn V and Nexus rocket designs. Technical studies were initiated by General Atomic in 1957 with early Government support awarded in 1958, with the research lead by Ted Taylor and Freeman Dyson. The summary report contents include: Propulsion-system background, Mission Requirements, Lunar-mission Velocities, Exploration-mission Payloads, Vehicle Designs, Propulsion-module Characteristics, Exploration vehicles, lunar vehicles, Saturn V system compatibility, Performance and Operating Costs, Parametric Study Indications, Exploration Missions, Advanced-vehicle Potential, Operational Considerations, Pulse-created Nuclear Environment, Internal Noise, Ground Facilities and Operations, Ground-Hazards Assessment, Flight-Hazards analysis, maintenance and repair concepts, fissionable-material availability, Development Planning, Comparisons with Other Systems. The introduction states: "The propulsion system operates as follows: low-yield nuclear pulse units are detonated consecutively external to and behind the vehicle. A substantial fraction of the mass of each pulse unit, the propellant, is directed toward the base of the vehicle as a high-velocity, high-density plasma which is intercepted by a large circular metallic plate, the pusher. The momentum of the propellant is transferred to the pusher and the resulting high accelerations are smoothed out by shock-absorbing devices to levels of a few g's in the upper vehicle, well within human tolerances. The propulsion-system performance is characterized by both high thrust-to-weight ratios and large specific impulses... earlier design studies concentrated on vehicles of large sizes (4,000 ton gross weight and some 100 feet in diameter) and quite high specific impulse (4,000 seconds and over). Such vehicles were intended primarily for nuclear-pulse operation starting just above the atmosphere and with initial thrust to weight ratios of about 1.25. At the conclusion of the parametric phase of the NASA study, it became apparent that very significant mission performance, under the less demanding NASA mission constraints, at least, became available using much smaller and lower specific impulse vehicles if operated at lower initial thrust to weight ratios... this study was performed to explore the mission potential of the nuclear-pulse space vehicle concept in the accomplishment of missions meeting the requirements for lunar transportation, lunar logistic, and exploration or logistic missions to the planets, including Mars, Venus, and Jupiter."The study concluded: "A major result was the very significant mission potential of the 10 meter Saturn V compatible nuclear pulse vehicles, particularly when operated in the orbital start up mode... two potential hazards require further consideration, that of boosting aloft large quantities of high explosive packaged with plutonium (in nuclear pulse units) and the potential (though small) contamination of the earth's atmosphere." ... Product Description
This book presents a general nonlinear control design methodology for nonlinear uncertain dynamical systems. Specifically, a hierarchical nonlinear switching control framework is developed that provides a rigorous alternative to gain scheduling control for general nonlinear uncertain systems. The proposed switching control design framework accounts for actuator saturation constraints as well as system modeling uncertainty. The efficacy of the control design approach is extensively demonstrated on aeroengine propulsion systems. In particular, dynamic models for rotating stall and surge in axial and centrifugal flow compression systems that lend themselves to the application of nonlinear control design are developed and the hierarchical switching control framework is then applied to control the aerodynamic instabilities of rotating stall and surge. For the researcher who is entering the field of hierarchical switching robust control this book provides a plethora of new research directions. Alternatively, for researchers already active in the field of hierarchical control and hybrid systems, this book can be used as a reference to a significant body of recent work. Furthermore, control practitioners involved with nonlinear control design can immensely benefit from the novel nonlinear stabilization techniques presented in the book. ... Read more

The reader is led through all the steps that propulsion will likely take between now and the 2020s in a clear, concise, and detailed way, including market and feasibility perspectives when applicable.
The 16 chapters follow a developmental logic. The material starts with the future of SRM, grounded on R&D done at present, goes through the development of LOX/HC liquid rocket engines, a technology based on U.S. and Russian work of the 60s and 70s. It then looks into future technologies, and systems just beginning to make their impact felt now, such as superconductivity applied to electric propulsion, MW-class ion engines (perhaps utilizing a nuclear power source), solar sails, laser propulsion, nuclear propulsion (such as the promising VASIMR), and ISRU." ... Product Description
This report was created for strategic planners, international executives and import/export managers who are concerned with the market for diesel or semi-diesel compression-ignition engines for marine propulsion. With the globalization of this market, managers can no longer be contented with a local view. Nor can managers be contented with out-of-date statistics that appear several years after the fact. I have developed a methodology, based on macroeconomic and trade models, to estimate the market for diesel or semi-diesel compression-ignition engines for marine propulsion for those countries serving the world market via exports or supplying from various countries via imports. I do so for the current year based on a variety of key historical indicators and econometric models. On the demand side, exporters and strategic planners approaching the world market face a number of questions. Which countries are supplying diesel or semi-diesel compression-ignition engines for marine propulsion? What is the dollar value of these imports? How much do the imports of diesel or semi-diesel compression-ignition engines for marine propulsion vary from one country to another? Do exporters serving the world market have similar market shares across the importing countries? Which countries supply the most exports of diesel or semi-diesel compression-ignition engines for marine propulsion? Which countries are buying their exports? What is the value of these exports and which countries are the largest buyers? ... Read more
