5-0 out of 5 stars PRINCIPLES - MINERAL PROCESSING -book
A very comprehensive reference book on the development and wizardry of separating and collecting "Things dug out of the Earth"(Descartes). It deals with older and modern methods, the evolution of equipment and plant and also typical individual integrated processes.
The clear explanations are most useful for those interested in this somewhat obscure subject but it is an invaluable reference book for the desk of those involved in ore separation plant operation or design.// ... Read more

Product Description
As product specifications become more demanding, manufacturers require steel with ever more specific functional properties. As a result, there has been a wealth of research on how those properties emerge during steelmaking. Fundamentals of Metallurgy summarizes this research and its implications for manufacturers.

The first part of the book reviews the effects of processing on the properties of metals with a range of chapters on such phenomena as phase transformations, types of kinetic reaction, transport and interfacial phenomena. Authors discuss how these processes and the resulting properties of metals can be modelled and predicted. Part 2 discusses the implications of this research for improving steelmaking and steel properties.

With its distinguished editor and international team of contributors, Fundamentals of metallurgy will be an invaluable reference for steelmakers and manufacturers requiring high-performance steels in such areas as automotive and aerospace engineering.

Product Description
The growth and development witnessed today in modern science, engineering, and technology owes a heavy debt to the rare, refractory, and reactive metals group, of which niobium is a member. Extractive Metallurgy of Niobium presents a vivid account of the metal through its comprehensive discussions of properties and applications, resources and resource processing, chemical processing and compound preparation, metal extraction, and refining and consolidation. Typical flow sheets adopted in some leading niobium-producing countries for the beneficiation of various niobium sources are presented, and various chemical processes for producing pure forms of niobium intermediates such as chloride, fluoride, and oxide are discussed. The book also explains how to liberate the metal from its intermediates and describes the physico-chemical principles involved. It is an excellent reference for chemical metallurgists, hydrometallurgists, extraction and process metallurgists, and minerals processors. It is also valuable to a wide variety of scientists, engineers, technologists, and students interested in the topic. ... Read more

Product Description
Due to unusually high operating temperatures, intense radiation, viscous slags, dense metals, and other factors, the design and operation of metallurgical processes is an especially demanding task. This volume describes the engineering principles involved in this industry, beginning with an introduction to the basic mechanisms of heat, mass, and fluid flow, while showing the origin of associated transport coefficients: diffusivity, conductivity, and viscosity. The discussions are supplemented with examples and exercises.Empirical techniques for modelling and process design are presented, followed by numerical techniques and computer programs needed for "ground-up" quantitative descriptions of typical metallurgical processes.A generous appendix provides a wealth of detail on the thermodynamic and physical properties of substances commonly encountered by metallurgists, while a short section on metallurgical thermodynamics illustrates the way these tabulations should be used. The paperback edition has been corrected and updated, while a new section on the numerical simulation of flow processes has been added. A key text for engineers, scientists, and students, this book offers a unique look at the rich variety of phenomena that govern the behavior and kinetics of metallurgical processing operations. ... Product Description
This econometric study covers the world outlook for aluminum and aluminum-base alloy powder metallurgy parts across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for aluminum and aluminum-base alloy powder metallurgy parts. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. ... Read more

Product Description
Mechanical activation of solids is a part of mechanochemistry, the science with a sound theoretical foundation exhibiting a wide range of potential application. Mechanical activation itself is an innovative procedure where an improvement in technological processes can be attained via a combination of new surface area and defects formation in minerals.

Mechanical activation is of exceptional importance in extractive metallurgy and mineral processing and this area forms the topic of this book and is the result of more than twenty years of research and graduate teaching in the field.

In pyrometallurgy, the mechanical activation of minerals makes it possible to reduce their decomposition temperatures or causes such a degree of disordering that the thermal activation may be omitted entirely. The potential mitigation of environmental pollutants is becoming increasingly important in this context.

The lowering of reaction temperatures, the increase of the rate and amount of solubility, preparation of water soluble compounds, the necessity for simpler and less expensive reactors and shorter reaction times are some of the advantages of mechanical activation in hydrometallurgy. The environmental aspects of these processes are particularly attractive.

Several industrial processes are examined and their flowsheets are presented as succesful of activation. In these processes, the introduction of a mechanical activation step into the technological cycle significantly modifies the subsequent steps.

The book is designed for researchers, teachers, operators and students in the areas of extractive metallurgy, mineral processing, mineralogy, solid state chemistry and materials science. It will encourage newcomers to the mechanochemistry to do useful research and discover novel applications in this field.

Product Description

The machinability of powder metallurgy steels is lower compared with wrought steels of appropriate composition and/or mechanical properties. This is due to a larger number of material and processing variables affecting the final properties of sintered materials. The aim of the book is to present knowledge for an overview of all interacting factors in machining, including those applied for improving machinability. They include the properties of basic plain iron and alloyed powders, various additions, compacting and sintering conditions. The effect of porosity, individual alloying elements and microstructure is considered.

Product Description
Steels remain the most widely used metallic materials. By examining the mechanical properties of steels in conjunction with microstructure the first edition gave a clear description of the development and behaviour of these materials - the very foundation of their widespread use. This new edition more explicitly links this theory with applications whilst retaining the style and purpose of the original. The text is updated throughout and includes three new chapters on acicular ferrite; the control of microstructures during welding; and a further chapter on the modelling of steel microstructure to achieve optimum performance. Extensive bibliographies are also included. Steel metallurgists in both industry and academia will find this book invaluable.

* A comprehensive introduction to the microstructure and properties of steels.

* Clearly written and well illustrated.

* Extensive bibliographies. ... Read more
