2-0 out of 5 stars this is not a good text.
i have to say that this book is very up and down.some parts and explained really well, some not so much.the one's that aren't explained well are full of typo errors, and it just gets annoying.i do not recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Well-written book covering a very useful topic
This book has been very useful for me as an EE.It is very well written and is laid out in a clear manner.I've worked with Dr. Marangoni and discussed this book with him and he is a very intelligent and insightful person. This book has been in existence at least 25-30 years and is as applicable today as it was when it was written.

1-0 out of 5 stars Stay Away
This book is just terrible. No examples, unrelated problems, and poorly written text is all you will find.

Example: One question asks you to refer to you 'basic vibration textbook' to find out how to do the problem (as they do not explain in the book). What is the point of questions like this?

Also many times you will find yourself staring in awe at the wording in this book. There are many sentences written so poorly that they simply have no meaning.

1-0 out of 5 stars pathetic
This book is absolutely useless for college level students. It DOES NOT explains problems in detail and you would have to spend hours in understanding what they are trying to do.
Absolutely CRAPY book. I WONT recomment this to anyone

Product Description
Literally an entire course between two covers, Measurement Uncertainty: Methods and Applications, Fourth Edition, presents engineering students with a comprehensive tutorial of measurement uncertainty methods in a logically categorized and readily utilized format. The new uncertainty technologies embodied in both U.S. and international standards have been incorporated into this text with a view toward understanding the strengths and weaknesses of both.

The book is designed to also serve as a practical desk reference in situations that commonly confront an experimenter. The text presents the basics of the measurement uncertainty model, non-symmetrical systematic standard uncertainties, random standard uncertainties, the use of correlation, curve-fitting problems, and probability plotting, combining results from different test methods, calibration errors, and uncertainty propagation for both independent and dependent error sources. The author draws on years of experience in industry to direct special attention to the problem of developing confidence in uncertainty analysis results and using measurement uncertainty to select instrumentation systems. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Too Theoretical, Too Wordy
I had high hopes for this book to improve my understanding of the subject for my work as the quality engineer for a testing laboratory. I was very frustrated by an overdose of theory and a scarcity of concrete examples. I have a BS in chemical engineering and have been an ASQ Certified Quality engineer for 13 years and taught SPC at BMW so I have some solid math credentials. This book may have some utility in the future as an advanced reference on the subject but as an introductory text, I consider this money wasted. There are better introductory books available here on Amazon for less money.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent survey recommended for specialty college-level Science & Technology collections
MEASUREMENT UNCERTAINTY: METHODS AND APPLICATIONS appears in its fourth edition to provide an entire course to engineering students: a tutorial of measurement uncertainty methods categorized and ready to go. The new uncertainty technologies in US and international standards are included here, serving as both a desk reference to practicing engineers and as a basic text for college-level students in engineering and industry. An excellent survey recommended for specialty college-level Science & Technology collections, and for supplemental curriculum classroom text assignment.

Product Description
The Blake/Long book is a professional level, introductory text on antenna principles, design, analysis, and measurements. It is especially suitable for persons who wish to improve their knowledge of antenna principles, concept design, performance analyses, and measurements. It is not a cookbook-like catalog for antenna design, nor does its understanding require a familiarity with electromagnetic theory, sophisticated mathematics, or complex computer techniques. The 3rd Edition updates and expands the original text by Lamont Blake, which was prepared at the undergraduate engineering, science, or technology level. For providing technical depth at the senior and graduate university levels, additions to the original book include a greatly expanded Chapter 7 on Antennas with Special Properties, a completely new Chapter 8 on Electronically Steered Arrays, and a revised and Chapter 9 on Measurements. Also new to this edition are numerous appendices to the updated text and downloadable Supplementary Materials with sample computer analyses. Reader knowledge assumes familiarity with basic college physics and mathematics. Computer computations use Mathcad® software, which can be read and used by persons without prior computer programming knowledge. The book is therefore suitable for entry-level as well as the more experienced professionals who desire to expand their understanding of and capabilities for antenna principles, analyses, measurements, and design. i have learnt this book with keen intrest . this is a beautiful book . i am much inspired to read this book . of course it is a best book of this year......................................................................

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good book and very understandable.
Of the various radiation detection and measurement books available, this one is by far the easiest to understand. It is concise and does not ramble on with extraneous details. One learns the basic concepts and theory, thus allowing the reader to develop a clear knowledge base without becoming lost in disjointed detail. The reviewer learned from the first edition of Tsoulfanidis' book as an undergraduate two decades ago, and is grateful that no other text was used for the course. The reviewer also owns the second edition. The reviewer recommends that those desiring to learn about radiation measurements and radiation detectors strongly consider using Dr. Tsoulfanidis' text as a first step towards their education in nuclear science and engineering.

2-0 out of 5 stars A a rehash of information that is covered in another book
I will qualify that I haven't read the book yet. Just glancing through it after it arrived was disappointing. The book has three sections. Section one is "Test and Measurement" by Pat Brown, and is 48 pages long. It looks like a good overview of testing, much like he offers in the SynAudCon classes.
Section two is "What's the Ear for? How to protect it". It is 25 pages long and while it looks valid, wasn't what I expected in this title. Section three is Fundamentals and Units of Measurement. It is about 100 pages of charts covering everything form the SI system (wow I didn't know octillion is the name of a number, that makes my life richer), to some basic one paragraph topics on basic physics, some good formulas and charts for audio usage, on to the greek alphabet, ISO standard numbers, abbreviations for 30 pages (XLPE is cross linked polyethelene), to some geometry reveiw. It is factual filler.

It appears the content is good, but basic. It was not an in depth book on A Sound Engineers Guide to Audio test and Measurement in my opinion. There are other books that cover this better. In fact this book appears to be three chapters out of Handbook for Sound Engineers. I didn't look for updates. It looks nearly identical.

My rating is low because this is a rehash of a portion another book and the content does not follow the title very well. ... Read more

Product Description
Today's competitive environment requires that companies distinguish themselves in the marketplace using factors other than prices.Companies that excel at on-time delivery, short cycle/leadtime, quality, and fast response to the market gain a competitive edge - and have the ability to market based on these features. A proven approach to achieve this is the Theory of Constraints (TOC) production solution known, as drum-buffer-rope scheduling. Just in time (JIT), Total Quality Management (TQM) and other philosophies aim at exploiting these competitive edge factors. However, accounting systems, financial, and incentive measurements continue to be the biggest stumbling blocks to companies wishing to improve their financial performance with these tools. Agreement on the need for a measurement system that encourages local actions in line with bottom line results is common, but solutions have remained elusive. Whether a company is pursuing JIT, TQM, or TOC, cost accounting is the common enemy.Attempts have been made to introduce "new" costing methods such as activity based costing and economic value added, but they have failed to recognize the basic difference between product costing for financial statement purposes and collective management information to make real time decisions. The Measurement Nightmare shows you how to resolve the conflicts and remove the accounting systems, financial, and incentive measurement roadblocks to adopting TOC, thereby gaining improved performance and sustaining competitive advantage. The techniques that the author, leading authority Debra Smith, has implemented and tracked at various companies highlight "the productivity measurement nightmare". Especially important are the day-to-day tools she developed to ensure successful implementation. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book, but stack it with others...
This is a grate book that explains how measurment indicators might confuse management, and make mistakes that really happen in buissness. In states several measurment indicators based on TOC that help in understanding what should be done in the company.

Very good book, but if you want to learn about TOC, you should stack it with other TOC books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great TOC book
Debra has done a nice job with this book.I would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more about Theory of Constraints.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Material - Difficult Read
This is an excellent book if you are serious about TOC.It covers the basic how-to subjects currently in the liturature, and goes into new territory showing how to reconcile Management/Throughput Accounting with GAAP Acounting.Despite the great material I have two complaints: 1) The book is difficult to read due to the small font and wordy style2) The book fails to recognize the existance of Lean Manufacturing and Six-Sigma tools that could break the dilemia presented about sprint capacity and buffer size. The second issue is one that any experience practitioner of Lean/6-sigma will easily recognise and correct.

5-0 out of 5 stars Getting to the core of the problem
The book focusses on the root problem behind all those dysfunctional metrics around us. It explains very clearly (also for people not trained in financial jargon) how the wrong focus on the wrong metrics in the top of the organization can have impact on the complete organization and may impact negatively the quality of decisions throughout the company.

Very much recommended! ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description

Over the last 20 years, comprehensive strategies for treating measurement error in complex models and accounting for the use of extra data to estimate measurement error parameters have emerged. Focusing on both established and novel approaches, Measurement Error: Models, Methods, and Applications provides an overview of the main techniques and illustrates their application in various models. It describes the impacts of measurement errors on naive analyses that ignore them and presents ways to correct for them across a variety of statistical models, from simple one-sample problems to regression models to more complex mixed and time series models.

The book covers correction methods based on known measurement error parameters, replication, internal or external validation data, and, for some models, instrumental variables. It emphasizes the use of several relatively simple methods, moment corrections, regression calibration, simulation extrapolation (SIMEX), modified estimating equation methods, and likelihood techniques. The author uses SAS-IML and Stata to implement many of the techniques in the examples.

Accessible to a broad audience, this book explains how to model measurement error, the effects of ignoring it, and how to correct for it. More applied than most books on measurement error, it describes basic models and methods, their uses in a range of application areas, and the associated terminology.

Product Description
The Wiley-Interscience Paperback Series consists of selected books that have been made more accessible to consumers in an effort to increase global appeal and general circulation. With these new unabridged softcover volumes, Wiley hopes to extend the lives of these works by making them available to future generations of statisticians, mathematicians, and scientists.

"The effort of Professor Fuller is commendable . . . [the book] provides a complete treatment of an important and frequently ignored topic. Those who work with measurement error models will find it valuable. It is the fundamental book on the subject, and statisticians will benefit from adding this book to their collection or to university or departmental libraries."
-Biometrics

"Given the large and diverse literature on measurement error/errors-in-variables problems, Fuller's book is most welcome. Anyone with an interest in the subject should certainly have this book."
-Journal of the American Statistical Association

"The author is to be commended for providing a complete presentation of a very important topic. Statisticians working with measurement error problems will benefit from adding this book to their collection."
-Technometrics

" . . . this book is a remarkable achievement and the product of impressive top-grade scholarly work."
-Journal of Applied Econometrics

Measurement Error Models offers coverage of estimation for situations where the model variables are observed subject to measurement error. Regression models are included with errors in the variables, latent variable models, and factor models. Results from several areas of application are discussed, including recent results for nonlinear models and for models with unequal variances. The estimation of true values for the fixed model, prediction of true values under the random model, model checks, and the analysis of residuals are addressed, and in addition, procedures are illustrated with data drawn from nearly twenty real data sets. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A short note
Fuller's monograph on measurement error models is a unique work; highly professional with no so many competitors in this league. It is a unite paper. However, its position is peculiar. It is not so popular amongst econometricians, though they are prepared to read and understand the text easily. Usually, econometricians have no inclination to analyse their problems looking through imperfections contained in data and models. The book should be of special usefulness for engineers, but they are - in turn - not prepared to take such heavy technometrics load. As a rule they/we are not ready to follow considerations. It's a pity because the book is outstanding.
The author presents knowledge from the highest shelf. However, being on such high level he used to present parts of the text nonchalantly with lack of appropriate accuracy changing sometimes commonly used notations or so. For people familiar with statistics it does not matter but for engineers it might be a significant barrier to understand the text. It looks that the most important point for the author is consideration; a text reader is far at the background. Author of a book should be always at the first position.

1-0 out of 5 stars Paperback at $100?

Product Description
We live in a world of measurements. Measurements, be they of length, speed, weight, temperature, intelligence, income, endurance, greed, gross domestic product, quality of life, unemployment or skill at a job, are all numerical manifestations of the extent of some underlying attribute. They reflect the reality around us – length and weight provide examples of systems that represent clear physical attributes. At the same time, measurements also define the reality around us – psychometric tests and price inflation constitute both the definitions and the procedures for measuring these concepts. Altogether, measurements are central to our modern world and our view of it. Product Description
In order to operate in an evidence-based fashion, mental health services rely on accurate, relevant, and systematic information.
