1-0 out of 5 stars This isn't about fireworks
I'm being sarcastic here, but please allow me to say that to those of us who actually MAKE FIREWORKS, the appropriation of our already much-maligned word for the promotion of I.T. is just another insult. This, and all these other software application books aren't about fireworks - they're about ones and zeros, and people who live in front of a keyboard, instead of with aluminum and black powder scrunged up under their fingernails, and coming home smelling of sulfur.Hey techno-geeks - how 'bout being imaginative and coming up with a different name for your freakin' software packages, eh?!Stop trying to sparkle up your boring lives by maligning my profession! (lol) :-)-----> * * * *** (BOOM)

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent tutorial
Great book, specially for beginners.
Well organized and rich in details.
It teaches you step by step how to use fireworks.
I definetely recomemend it, specially if you are new to fireworks like I am.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
I found it an excellent walk-through of Fireworks. Within a short time, I was applying oval marquees, bevels, drop shadows and other terrific graphic effects. I carry this with my notebook computer -- it goes wherever I go, for the next few weeks at least.

4-0 out of 5 stars So So
Not exactly the best tutorial book, but then again, there isn't much out there on Fireworks. If you are new to Fireworks, then this is the book for you. However, if you are looking for more advanced content, then don't get it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Phenomenal Pyrotechnics Guide
A Professional's Guide to Pyrotechnics is everything a novice or a professional would desire. There are several explanations about how to build different fire crackers as well as interesting facts about the history of each firework. The book does a good job of explaining safety procedures and rules for making fireworks. I really enjoyed working with this small but useful book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fills holes
This book does a good job of filling the "holes" that at least the newer editions of "firework classics" such as Fireworks Principles and Practice have in them when it comes to exploding fireworks (noisemakers).Oddly enough Amazon offered this book when I was purchaseing Fireworks Principles and Practice. The author here is very big on safety. I think this book makes a very good addition to the classic Fworks by Lancaster especically seeing as how the latest edtion of that work has a poo-poo atttitude to noisemakers and exploding fworks.Otherwise it too is an excellent book and it is easy to see why it has gone on to a 3rd editon.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good foundational book
I was hoping for more information on creating color in fireworks, but this was a great place to start.

4-0 out of 5 stars There's No Such Thing As Bad Noir
Well, maybe mediocre noir with occasional shafts of lightning.I liked THE GRIFTERS better.

5-0 out of 5 stars Terrific collection of short stories
This is a must for every Jim Thompson fan. Some of the stories are biographical, which will give the reader more insight into the man. Other stories are just terrific examples of crime noir.

This World and Then the Fireworks is included as kind of an unfinished novella, and it is really something. Very twisted, even for Jim Thompson. ... Read more

Book was in condition seller told me it would be in.I am very pleased with my purchase.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quick service, great condition
Even though I ordered this "used" it arrived in new condition. Called the vendor because I needed this textbook quickly for a class that was starting and they followed through happily. Great service!

2-0 out of 5 stars It's just not very useful
Basically this book is the first few chapters of other books. It'll get you started, but you'll end up needing more, so don't spend your money on this book in the first place. The full Dreamweaver Revealed book is good, the Flash book I don't like as much.

I find the book same as was described on the site by the seller. Thank You.

4-0 out of 5 stars Covers Most of the Basics
I bought this book for a basic Graphic Design class and a Dreamweaver class. This version of the book, has Dreamweaver, Flash, and Photoshop tutorials. Although the author(s) of the book has different books for specific programs this one covers just the basics from each book. The book comes with nice colorful pages that will walk you through almost everything you need in able to acquaint yourself with the different programs. The book also came with a CD that had the CS3 demo bundled with it. The CD has the projects needed in order to use the tutorials properly from the book. Overall the book is awesome if your new to CS3. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Newbies--and others too
I picked this book up even though I had used Fireworks in the past and was (I thought) pretty good with the program. I'd read some of the author's tutorials and figured it was worth a shot and I might learn something new.
I'm really glad I did. Even though the book is a "start at the very beginning" kind of book, I learned lots of new techniques and short-cuts that I wasn't aware of. The author writes in a very easy to understand style, and never whips out new jargon without explaining what it means first.
Even though the title says this is a beginner;s book I think you can learn a bunch from it even if you've used the program before.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not very useful for me.
The book is organized as a series of projects.
Some of the projects aren't explained completely. Some rely on you to figure out a step. This is extremely annoying for a "beginner's " book, since it really adds to the time it takes to complete the projects.
It doesn't work well as a reference either, since you have these relatively large projects rather than specific steps so it's not always easy to extract that single step you are looking for.
Finally there are easier ways to do some of the things presented here.

4-0 out of 5 stars 4 & 1/2 stars, really.
This book is excellent for learning Fireworks. The chapters are walk-through lessons that take you step-by-step through each skill. The exercises have enough repetition to enable you to become fairlycompetent. The book is much more readable than most other technical books.I have a 4 year in Computer Info Systems, but this book was not "beneath" me.The only complaint that I have is that a few as the exercises didn't work exactly as instructed. With my background, I was able to figure out how things actually worked, so it wasn't a significant problem.Others, with less computer experience, may get a bit more frustrated.

I liked the book so well, I have bought this publisher's books for JavaScript and Flash.I'm hoping they will be as easy to go through and I'll be developing training systems on the web in no time!

5-0 out of 5 stars A solid self-teaching tool for Fireworks MX
As a non-artist web programmer, I was looking for a Fireworks teaching tool that didn't assume I was a graphics expert ...

The Osborn series of "Beginner's Guides" seems to nicely fit a niche between "Dummies" books and "Complete Reference" type books, and this one is no exception.

I learned a lot about Fireworks MX without either wading through fluff or suffering torture-by-encyclopedia.Use this book to learn the basic techniques, then add a more advanced book such as "Using Fireworks MX" for when you need more in-depth information.

3-0 out of 5 stars there are better books
these books were pretty inexpensive, however I believe that the training provided by the actual softwares do a better job than this. The only reason i bought these books were because i had a good experience by a dreamweaver training book and figured all training books would be similiar which they are not.
the dreamweaver book i recommend is called DREAMWEAVER 4 H-O-T (Hands on Training) by Caro Green developed by Lynda Weinman
These books dont come with CD tutorials which are sometimes helpful. The pictures are not very good either. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Beauty of the Profane
I find it difficult to describe the appeal of this in a few short sentences - like Carter's other work it is fabulous, provoking and sexually charged. Here again are her enduring themes - domination and transformation('Master'), the ultimately desireable loss of innocence ('Penetrating tothe Heart of the Forest'), and forays into the dark, folk-tale regions shehas navigated with such effect in past works.

They are described as'pieces' and justly so; but pieces that are remarkable, fascinating andlose nothing for their brevity and strangeness.

5-0 out of 5 stars Japanese eroticism & medieval torture
Yes: in FIREWORKS, Angela Carter manages to tell stories dealing with Japan, medieval torture tactics, incest, gender-bending, and mirrors (LOTS of mirrors). It's a beautiful book...only a glimpse into her imaginationand only a small taste of her bizarre politics. And, as she explains in herafterward, these stories are not stories, but "pieces,""tales"--a nod to Poe or even to the Brothers Grimm. This is avery unusual--and rewarding--collection of writings. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Not memorable, but not bad
This story was fairly well written, but it was rather bland and forgettable, and most of the characters never came to life for me.This was the best line from the book:"A couple of years ago she'd come face-to-fang with a diamondback rattler in her garage. Though diamondbacks were a protected species in Arizona, the snake had somehow managed to commit suicide on the end of her shovel."

The author almost lost me very early in the book (10%, or location 495 in my Kindle) when Quinn and Susannah are in a Krispy Kreme doughnut shop in Mobile, Alabama and Quinn says, "This is where the chain started. We're talking the real deal."In fact, the first Krispy Kreme doughnut store was in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and is still in business today - or at least it was when I stopped there for doughnuts on my last trip to the States in July of 2009.That made me doubt the veracity of the other "facts" in the book, but I decided not to worry about the fine points of pyrotechnics and simply enjoy the story.

If you're looking for a light, easy read and don't mind an over-riding theme of Christianity, you'll enjoy the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Clean Read
ok I've got 2 say this wasn't the type of book that you just can't put down.It was a little slow at times, but, I have to disagree with the negative reviewers that get the book for FREE then complain that the book was too religous. It was Free....If you think it's boring or has too many references to the bible then just delete it.You have not lost anything, it was FREE.I myself like to read about characters who have strong christian values.I don't want to read smut and read cursing, ect.The story makes me desire to be more fruitful in my christian walk, like the characters in this book, instead of standing on the sideline and just saying "I'm a christian".Reading the story made me desire to have that joy of leading someone to the Lord. All heaven rejoices when one soul comes to the Truth & knowledge of Christ.I admire the author for writting a faith based book. And by the way, I also disagree with one of the reviewer who said that it was too easy when Susannah gave her life over to God. It is easy coming to Jesus. It was for me anyway.I was wild & carefree and I didn't need anyone.I had my whole life under control, so I thought, but the Holy spirit spoke to my heart, alot like Susannah in this book.So I do know for a fact that you can be heading one direction and then God can do a "Suddenly" and totally tur you around.

3-0 out of 5 stars Suprised to find this to be a Christian book.
I had no idea when I purchased this book that it was Christian in any way, but there is no doubt now that I have finished it that there is definately a southern Christian influence. Don't get me wrong I liked the book and I am a Christian myself I was just suprised to find it to be such when nothing I read indicated that it was. Good romance story not your typical that is for sure, but all the same good.

3-0 out of 5 stars FIREWORKS
I ENJOYED THE BOOK. LOVED THE SMALL TOWN FOLKSY PEOPLE AND THE WAY THEY SUPPORTED EACH OTHER. OF COURSE, I WOULD HAVE LOVED A BIT OF SEX THROWN IT BUT ALAS!IT WASNT TO BE........

WORTH YOUR TIME

2-0 out of 5 stars Skim if you must but don't read!
I got this book free on Kindle and I was really disappointed with it.I read the first few chapters and was pretty bored. So I skimmed the rest of the book.Skimming the book and getting it for free is the only reason why I gave it two stars.

The good: The only really good thing about this book is that it's clean.

The bad:The characters in this book were completely two dimensional and unbelievable.Susannah supposedly had a Masters in chemistry but she didn't sound intelligent and did some pretty stupid things in the book. She was a horrible investigator. Her love interest was insanely perfect and therefore annoying. The dialog felt forced most of the time and was very unrealistic.I laughed a lot while reading this book (and it wasn't at parts that were meant to be funny). The book came off as way too "preachy" for my taste. The storyline fell flat in my opinion.

I would not recommend reading this book.Skim it if you're insanely bored and you can get this book free... But do so at your own risk! ... Read more

[This book has not been prepared, sponsored, approved, authorized or licensed by The Walt Disney Company, Disney Enterprises, Inc., or any of their parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, or any entity that created, operates or manages Disneyland or any of the Disney Parks.]

In the year 2030, America is a transformed nation. An unchecked and undeterred federal government dominates every corner of the Republic. Consequently, an American treasure has become a political institution. The government is running the country's most beloved theme park. Fireworks! If the Government Ran the Fairest Kingdom of Them All (A Very Unauthorized Fantasy) is a colorful and spellbinding 2030 tour of this Southern California landmark following a hostile federal takeover. After a brief, nostalgic visit to the Park in 2010, we plunge twenty years into the future. This enchanting realm has been commandeered by Washington and remade in its image. In this devastating diorama, a turn-of-the-century street is a boulevard of bureaucratic dreams, the government's realization of Hometown America. As we explore the Park further, jungles and pirate caves provide not thrills but tutorials. Exciting rides have become platforms from which the federal conquerors will turn entertainment on its shrunken head. The spirit of pioneers and voices of liberty once echoed throughout rustic depictions of the American West. Now the government cracks the whip, and each attraction chomps at the bit, bridled by federal oppression. The land of fairy tales perhaps holds the most chilling contrivances. The government wants to mold the minds and hearts of its littlest citizens, and the stories beyond the drawbridge of 2030 are happy to oblige. Within this small world, Washington thrusts its visions upon the young .  .  .  and those dreams have consequences. A look at the future caps off the tour with a utopian model that redefines what lies ahead. The government has determined our destiny without our consent, and that new dawn has an ominous, crimson glow. But the American People may have their own plans by the end of this fantasy. Despite Washington's best tyrannical efforts, the fireworks of freedom may light up the sky with a hope and change that the New Order hadn't expected, optimistically accenting the "if" in this hypothetical tale of a government unleashed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Start With This Book
If you are serious about learning about fireworks then this book is a must! The fact that it was not published yesterday should have no bearing on your decision because fireworks and the various chemicals used in their manufacture have not changed dramatically in more than 100 years.
Shimizu is passionate about pyrotechnics and fireworks. His book is crammed with information that you need to understand before manufacturing anything.
I have several books on fireworks including the Lancaster book. Each one has something of interest but you will find yourself going back to this one again and again.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Foundational Book for the Serious Fireworks Hobbyist
Fireworks: The Art, Science, and Technique is a foundational book for the serious Fireworks hobbyist. It is a fairly easy read but at the same time it does require some background in chemical compositions and fireworks creation to fully understand the concepts being described. Takeo Shimizu is well referenced in most books about fireworks building and displays because of the depth of his descriptions and finite directions. Because of his location and restrictions in some areas for the use of chemicals, you will not always be able to replicate his formulas but the book does provide an insight into the subject and how the materials involved. The book is truly a MUST HAVE for anyone working with the creation of beautiful fireworks displays and fireworks creations.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the standards
This is a book that should be in the library of anyone interested in (or working with) fireworks, pyrotechnics, colored flame compositions, rocketry, or any other combustion-related aspect of chemistry.

It's definitely not the slickest presentation, nor is it full of color pictures. The text looks like it came out of a standard typewriter, rather than being typeset, and the illustrations are primarily hand-drawn.Instead of "glitz", what this book gives you is simple, practical information about the chemistry of fireworks, the art and techniques needed to produce various effects cleanly and effectively, and the safety precautions needed to do so safely.

Takeo Shimizu is an expert (possibly *the* expert) in this field, and his writing reflects a long career full of practical experience. You will not go wrong by adding this book to your library. It is an invaluable reference book, and widely considered to be one of the few standard texts (along with Lancaster's book Fireworks Principles and Practice) in this industry.

4-0 out of 5 stars fire works: the art, science, and technique

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book about firework art
For a long time getting of this book was my dream of life, because it is extremely difficult in Russia to get any information about pyrotechnics. (The Internet is only possibility). After I have received this book as giftfrom my American friend I felt actual happiness. As far as I feel, thisbook is the best for anyone who know that fireworks are great art likeclassic baroque music or paintings...

My sincerely thanks toDr.Shimizufor this beautiful book ... Read more

Product Description
Television writer Stepakoff, author of Billion Dollar Kiss (2007), turns to fiction with a sweet, nostalgic tale set at the end of World War II. The daughter of a prominent family in Toccoa, Georgia, child bride Lily Davis Woodward hasn't seen her husband, Paul, since he was shipped off to war three years ago. She is now nervously anticipating his return, until she comes across a handsome stranger named Jake setting off fireworks in a lush field. The chemistry between them is explosive, and before long, Lily finds herself showing Jake the secret abandoned cabin where she goes to create her artwork and entering into a torrid affair with him. Lily is predictably torn between love and duty, and wrestles with her desire to be with Jake and her fear of upsetting her genteel parents and the husband she barely knows by running away with him. Pleasant if not groundbreaking, Stepakoff's fiction debut should appeal to readers who liked The Bridges of Madison County (1992) and other tearjerkers that celebrate forbidden but passionate love. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars Fast read
I finished this book a month ago and still don't know exactly how I feel about it.I anticipated that it would be Nicholas Sparks-esque. In a way it was.An elementary version of this type of story. The writing wasn't wonderful. The story line was okay. The ending disappointed.

What this author did excel at was the soft-porn love making scene.Normally I skim over these as they aren't really my thing. This scene went on...and on...and on. It was the Viagra of the usual intimate description.

The book did make me crave risotto and Coca-Cola, which I did cave to. That is about the end of the satisfaction I received from the story.

Not a fan. It's not a book that I'd pass on to others.

5-0 out of 5 stars pleasant read
This read has a nice flow/pace, interesting story line. I would think that many readers would enjoy it. Out of 5, I'd rate 3.8...my opinion, of which each of us have. A book is pretty individual, like music, but I feel this read has appeal to a fairly large audience.

5-0 out of 5 stars Bright Spot of Reading
Fireworks over Toccoa may not have the eloquence of Nicholas Sparks and the like, but Jeffrey Stepakoff did the research of this story for a movie script, but in turn has taken that research and interwove it into a delightful, enjoyable and entertaining read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fireworks over Toccoa
I loved this book! I loved the characters and the descriptions and the way it was written! A very romantic story that leaves the reader missing the characters after the book is finished. Indulge in this romantic story!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fireworks Over Toccoa
Just finished reading Jeffrey Stepakoff's, Fireworks Over Toccoa and I'm so sad to leave his Toccoa. I fell in love with the place, the characters, and the period and wanted the story to continue.Beautifully written, almost poetic, Stepakoff creates a world you want to be a part of. Product Description
This spirited look at our national birthday explores the stories behind the familiar symbols of the Fourth of July and tells how they have come to be associated with the holiday. It will make the Fourth of July more meaningful for readers young and old. James Cross Giblin is an editor of children's books who also writes for children. He edited the Clarion holiday series started by the late Edna Barth. Ursula Arndt brings to this book the same delightful style she employed as illustrator of the six Barth holiday books. This title, along with all of Edna Barth's classic holiday books, is now being reissued with a fresh, new jacket design and fun activities inside the paperback covers.Amazon.com Review
James Cross Giblin does an excellent job of bringing thehistory of America's Independence Day to life. Woven into his vividdescriptions of events surrounding the Declaration of Independence(down to the annoying flies and mosquitoes in Philadelphia's StateHouse) are amusing anecdotes--how the 1890s "Society for theSuppression of Unnecessary Noise" tried to outlaw Fourth of Julyfirecrackers; what a Yankee Doodle really is; that Uncle Sam was areal person; and how Benjamin Franklin wanted America's national birdto be ... a turkey. Fireworks, Picnics, and Flags concludeswith chapters on the Centennial and the Bicentennial, a July 4 eventstimeline, and a helpful index. Ursula Arndt's skillful pen-and-inkdrawings enliven this already spirited treatment of the symbols andhistory of America's most patriotic holiday.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good information book
This book is well-researched and very informative. It is written for an upper-elementary/middle school reader, but is still a great resource for the lower-elem teacher. It could be read aloud to older students in short segments, but is not intended to be shared in its entirety. It is presented in narrative form with pleasant pen-ink sketches.

Great for a research project and a fresh look at some of our unofficial symbols.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wave your Flag and Ring your Bell, Uncle Sam
James Giblin does a fine job of tying our Independence Day symbols back to the beginnings of our country. After a brief but comprehensive account of how and why the Declaration of Independence was written, Giblin focuses subsequent chapters on such symbols of patriotism as "The Flag," "The Eagle," and "The Liberty Bell," explaining in detail the stories behind these familiar symbols and how each was propelled to the iconic status that it holds in our culture and traditions today.

Unfortunately, while the text of Fireworks... is interesting and age appropriate, the illustrations seem to be more of an afterthought - instead of truly supporting the text, in most cases they seem at best ornamental. The illustrations admittedly are well rendered; however, they lack inspiration, which is especially unfortunate in the case of this book, when there is such potential and opportunity for outstanding supporting illustrative detail.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent approach to reintroducing Science to Kids
I learned about this book on The Naked Scientist podcast, hosted by the very authors. The book is the compilation of a series of simple experiments targeted for young kids, easily performed with commonplace elements. Simple to follow, and with clear and concise explanations about why things work the way they do, I believe it is a welcome addition to any school library or personal collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars A gift for my 13 year old grandson
He loved the book and he is still conducting the interesting and safe scientific experiments contained in the book.Great gift for the science minded kid.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lots of fun for Science Geeks!
It doesn't matter what your scientific specialty is (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, etc.) there's an experiment in this book for you. Most of them can be preformed with stuff you probably have lying around the house.Scientific explanations are included on how the experiments actually work. The activities are simple yet impressive enough to get anyone interested in science.

This book was put out by the geniuses at "The Naked Scientist", a weekly podcast on science produced in Britian.

5-0 out of 5 stars Grat book, great experiments, great fun
This is a fantastic book. Well written, well presented, with many fun and amazingly simple experiments with spectacular results. There is also an explanation of how the experiments apply to everyday life.

4-0 out of 5 stars A different kind of Take
This book is more about peoples interactions with the military then with thealien ship.I did find it very enjoyable and an easy read.Though not the greatest, its worth the time and its a very entertaining book. The characters are believable and there struggles are more horrifying with the milta then with the spaceship.

5-0 out of 5 stars enthralling
this author creates characters that breathe. this was a book you hate to lay down. a great story---shocking and highly entertaining. i thoroughly enjoyed the read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good characters and suspenseful plot drive this "America Under Seige"novel
Those who pick up a copy of James A. Moore's "Fireworks" simply expecting an alien invasion novel (as the book cover snippets lead one to believe) will be sorely disappointed because it's not the aliens who star in this novel, but rather the residents of Collier, GA.

Amidst the July 4th fireworks celebration, a strange craft appears in the sky and falls to Earth in a lake next the to town.As the town starts to right itself following the devastation created by the crash, an ultra-secret American military group known only as ONYX arrives on the scene to "protect" the citizens from the craft.Well, as every good UFO conspirator-theory believer knows, that kind of "protection" is just not what the military is really motivated by.ONYX simply wants to clean up the mess, get the ship spirited way to Area 51 or some other secret base and move out.

As the commander of ONYX soon finds out, that simply won't set with these spirited and independent-minded Southerners who react unfavorably to the military occupation. As relations begin to slowly deteriorate, martial law is declared and all hell breaks loose soon after in this sleepy little town.

Moore spends the middle third of the book developing some pretty good characters (with pretty good stories). The reader gets a chance to connect not only with these folks but with a couple of the key ONYX personnel. As only a true Southerner could, Moore does an excellent job describing the mindset and determination of these Georgian folks. He also turns up the heat by graphically describing some of the firefights between the citizens and the military and does a nice job keeping the plot boiling. One can't help but wonder what role (if any) the aliens will play in the final outcome.Rather than risk giving away any more plot details, you'll just have to pick up a copy of the book to get that answer.

"Fireworks" is a solid "read" that will appeal to the fans of Robert McCammon and those who enjoyed the early Dean Koontz novels, such as "Strangers" and "Watchers".

3-0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!
This book is labeled a horror novel by the publisher, and although the first half is very promising, it turns into nothing more than a military controlled warzone.Where's the horror?Where's the aliens?Where's the protagonist? The book shifts from one character to another without reason and fizzles out at the end.The first half was 4 stars, the second half was 2... so Fireworks deserves a 3.My other gripe is all the spelling errors in the last third of the book.Did the copy editor just give up two-thirds of the way through? It was very annoying and pulls you right out of the story. That being said, James A. Moore is a good writer, and even more importantly, he's a good storyteller.I know he'll pick himself up from this little slip.

4-0 out of 5 stars It came out of the sky
What would happen if a Fourth of July celebration was interrupted by the crash landing of a ufo? That's the gist here, but Moore infuses his story with characters that are just too darn good for a Leisure paperback. It's true that there ain't much when it comes to extra terrestrial interaction (to put it mildly) but that's not the point. The fear gradually shifts from the dry docked flying saucer to the government agents given the task of keeping the entire town of Collier, GA quiet.(The media is given a story about a terrorist)Like the best episodes of the X-Files the audience plays ping-pong between the threat of invasion and the threat of shadowy government figures calling the shots.Only here the scenario is expanded to include the terror of martial law. That's pretty scary. It's a literary smack in the head, where logically the issues and priorities are eschewed in order to maintain a semblance of order and the more you read the more plausible a situation like this seems.

This is the second book by this author that I've read and I can honestly say this fellow right here has what it takes to be another King, Koontz, or McCammon-his writing is amazingly similar to those lofty three and just as enduring. The only way we can ever see that happen is a hardcover deal and good press and James Moore is deserving of both.Even Hollywood could potentially make good on this story (but it'd probably get screwed up). Bloody, insightful, with well written characters, and compelling enough to keep those pages a turnin'.Fireworks goes high on the recommendation list. Also check out Under the Overtree. ... Read more

The members of her small Florida community look well upon gallery owner Jessalyn Banks. Her life is settled and comfortable. The only thing she is unsure of is her feelings for Chief of Police Shane Moore.Though Shane has been doing his best to infiltrate her life for the past year, Jessalyn has kept him at arms length. With the arrival of an unknown stalker, Jessie may no longer have a choice; Shane's presence may be necessary to keep her from harm.

For longer than he cares to remember, Shane Moore has been trying to get Jessie to notice him.Doing anything possible to convince her that they need to be together, he even allows himself to be put on a planning committee for an Independence Day celebration.Things heat up between the two when a stalker begins to threaten Jessie's life. Will Shane be able to keep her safe, or will the unknown menace terrorizing her follow through with their plans to harm her?

FIREWORKS by Loribelle Hunt is explosive!Combine one small town police chief with one artsy gallery owner - sounds like a match made in heaven, right? Not if Jessalyn Banks has anything to say about it.Not wanting to open her heart to the possibility of being hurt, she is content to ignore Shane and his advances.I found her admission of her attraction to him all the more sweet because while she fights the good fight, her heart doesn't stand a chance where Shane Moore is concerned. If anything, he is tenacity at its best.Add in a stalker bent of hurting Jessie and my romance-loving heart was content.

FIREWORKS is an example of Ms. Hunt's ability to write across different genres.I continue to haunt her coming soon pages for exciting new novels to read by this talented author.

5-0 out of 5 stars You gotta be dumb not to buy this book
This book is brilliantly written, regardless of the level of your expertise. Doug has a sense of humor and a gentle way of explaining things that makes the book perfectly appropriate to novices. On the other hand, all the material the experts need is there and Doug makes it fun to read about it. You could have more pretty pictures, but the book would sell for at least twice the price.

1-0 out of 5 stars You gotta be dumb to buy this series
I'm sure there are some people who could learn something from this book. Unfortunately compared to what's out there, this book is a real waste of time and money.

My biggest gripe is the total lack of pictures compared to other books. Hey guys, we're talking about a GRAPHICS program. There are on the average, only one or two picts per page. Hardly enough to get the idea of what the program does.

Also, each of the picts are way too small and fuzzy to really see what's going on.

There are much better books out there with more pages for less money.

5-0 out of 5 stars EASY TO READ-GREAT CONTENT
This book saved my life! I had a big freelance gig at a major interactive agency. I needed to learn Fireworks in 2 days. I picked this book up because it looked like it cut through all the irrelevant issues I didn't need to know about. I was right thank God. Thanks to this book I helped creat a major website in Fireworks. Great program too!

5-0 out of 5 stars Like Having a Personal Tutor
Macromedia's Fireworks 4 is a truly ambitious program and that means it has a steep learning curve, particularly if you're a rookie at image creation, like I am. But I'm convinced that having Doug Sahlin's "Dummies" book got me through some of the thorniest issues, and in a non-intimidating fashion. It's loaded with step-by-step examples, illustrations, and humor. (Actually, it's probably the book Macromedia should've included instead of the mind-boggling manual that it did. )

Really, having Mr. Sahlin's book at your side is about as close as anyone could reasonably get to having a personal tutor. For me, that cut down on a lot of the frustration I was experiencing before I bought the book. That alone was well worth the small investment. Go for it! ... Read more
