Product Description
Reiki is an ancient, hands-on healing art with origins inthe Tibetan sutras. It has been used primarily by individuals in adaily practice that helps recharge, realign, and rebalance energy inthe body. Today Reiki is joining other complementary therapies in theconventional settings of hospitals, hospices, counseling centers, emergency rooms, intensive care units. Nurses, physical therapists, surgeons, midwives, and anesthetists report that Reiki can help managepain and promote healing. Counselors and caregivers treating thosewith terminal illness find that Reiki gives patients an increasedphysical, emotional, and psychological ability to cope. Reiki EnergyMedicine explains the body's energy system, and describes how Reikican be used in a variety of settings to balance energy and create theconditions needed for healing.

Reiki Energy Medicine is the first book to show how this ancient artof touch therapy can work within our mainstream health care system.

As our health-care system challenges institutions to offerhigh-quality but cost-effective service, Reiki can be an importanttool that can help maximize patient care and minimize recovery time.

Reiki does not require complicated techniques or extensive training:practitioners of many disciplines are able to easily incorporate itinto their specialties. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very useful book.
This book covers how Reiki in used in a number of different settings and has many useful ways of thinking that has inspired me to use Reiki. It tells many stories of how useful Reiki has been for a number of people and how Reiki is becoming more and more helpful with healing peoples' health issues.

3-0 out of 5 stars review
Book was pretty good and had a lot of optimistic visions for the future of reiki integrating with western medicine.Makes me want to read more about reiki.

3-0 out of 5 stars If you are attracted to this book, buy it.
This book is an easy read.It is not a detailed instruction manual on Reiki, in fact it doesn't give too much information away at all.The book talks about what Reiki is and, what surprised me, is how much the practice is utilized in human medicine, hospice etc...I had no idea how main stream the practice has become. The book packed with anecdotal support for the healing benefits of Reiki. The contents are well organized and she makes her points quickly.I picked up the book because I was taking Libby Barnett's Reiki level 1 and 2 courses and wanted to familiarize myself with her and her book.If you need further convincing that Reiki has a place in human medicine and supportive care pick up this book. After taking her course I'll be using Reiki on my small animal patients.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for health professionals and everyone
Reiki is a form of Energy Medicine. The Japanese compound word Reiki means Universal Energy and is equivalent to the Chi of Chinese and the Prana of Indians. In this book, "Reiki Energy Medicine Bringing Healing Touch into Home, Hospital and Hospice", the authors Libby Barnett and Maggie Chambers, Reiki Masters, give us a number of areas where the Reiki healing touch can be applied with advantage. They give a good number of case studies and examples from their extensive health-related professional experience spread over years. Libby is a Medical Social Worker and Maggie is an artist who works with handicapped children. Both found Reiki to be useful in a number of situations. In collaboration with Susan Davidson, who helped the book to be edited into a highly readable account of Reiki, they succeed in getting the message through that Reiki as an adjunt to all other medical systems can improve the healing process effectively. Reiki is intelligent and it is the receipient who receives as much or as little as one needs and uses it for the highest good. Thus, it is not to be construed as a panacea, but it should be offered with unconditional love. I especially liked their comment that Reiki is not only Universal Energy but is also Universal / unconditional love. They also bring out an important point that Reiki should be welcomed by all other medical systems and the insurance firms since it doesn't interfere with their working and helps in bringing down the medicare costs.

The book gives a short introduction to Reiki but concentrates more on the applications of Reiki in the health field. The emphasis through out is on touch. The Appendices give the hand positions for self Reiki and for giving Reiki to others. The other aspects of Reiki which enable distance healing, programming etc., which do not involve touch have not been covered.

I recommend this book to all those who are interested in the use of Reiki in the health field.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn all you can about Reiki--this is an excellent start!
Reiki Energy Medicine is a motivator to learn Reiki, which is a Great thing because I can honestly say from my own personal experience, now that I have received attunement, that it WORKS.The authors write with the "Spirit" which just corroborates to me that Reiki is Holy and altogether Powerful.I am a Christian and love and celebrate Jesus every day of my life.Furthermore I have always been a woman of prayer.Reiki brings my faith full circle because it is tangible proof to my heart and soul that God's unconditional love can heal you if you will receive it. What is so awesome about Reiki is that it works regardless of your beliefs! No religious belief is required to receive Reiki healing.
One of the best things about Reiki that I learned from this book is that "The Reiki process hightlights the truth about healing: that the power and the responsibility for healing lie within the individual. The Reiki practitioner brings intention and commitment to the process, acting as a compassionate conduit for the universal life force, but the practitioner does not DO the healing for the client. The healing happens as a result of the relationship between the receiver's energy field and the universal energy field, mediated through the cellular consciousness of the receiver.Reiki enpowers the receiver to do the healing that needs to be done on all levels of being."
The chapters included are: 1 Universal Life Force: The Fundamental Principle of Health, 2 The Unique Power of Reiki, 3 Self-Reiki: Caring for the Caregiver, 4 A Progressive Approach to Wellness, 5 Visions for the Future: Reiki and the Partnership Model of Care. Also included are appendixes with diagrams for self treatment and treatment upon others.
Important note: You really need to look into this book but I would recommend getting an attunement first of which are available at amazon in the form of vhs and dvds. Then you can add to what you've already learned, thus fully enjoy and understand this book. The information here is NOT going to teach you Reiki if you first haven't been attuned.I give this book five stars because it mentions this fact in the text early on.
Closing quote: "Reiki meets us where we are and gently moves us forward, providing support for doing the work we were born to do.Reiki helps us know our purpose and manifest it with strength, vitality and ease.o8E

Product Description
By depoliticizing the energy-climate debate the authors succeed in exposing corrupt political thinking and 'green' myth-making about issues that affect every one of us. Today, energy is the most important commodity in the world. Yet our basic energy security is threatened by an ideological social agenda driven more by myth than reality. "Energy and Climate Wars" exposes the energy and climate myths that are driving today's public debate, from the West's war on carbon to the concept of peak oil and renewable energy. Using facts and empirical science, Peter Glover and Michael Economides show how most of the battle over energy and climate issues are the works of political and 'green' ideologues bent on social engineering programs. They present facts that are often obscured by media hype and speculative science to demolish popular myths, including the belief that energy politics are carried out in the best interest of all and that renewable energy can replace hydrocarbon economy.A thought-provoking, meticulously researched book, "Energy and Climate Wars" will help readers grasp the issues at stake and understand how energy and climate policy directly affect their lives with higher energy prices and security threats. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good for Graduate and Beyond, NOT Undergrad.
The book was purchased for a 3-level Energy Economics course at a highly respected private college. Has some useful background information and charts, but overall, is geared more for graduate students, academics, and mostly for business owners who are already decently versed in medium to upper-level economic concepts. Tends to be dry and can be even dull at points. 3/5 for my purposes, i can see it being 4/5 for upper levels.

3-0 out of 5 stars Accetable but requires some background to understand
With the price, the information in it is worth buying. However, readers should have some background in both econmics and energy to be able to understand the text and graph.

There are a few confusions due to partial mis-organization of the book.

All in all, it a great book but a bit expensive.

4-0 out of 5 stars Useful, but only if some previuous background
The book contains an economics approach to international energy markets. It does provide some background into energy issues in order to explain the functioning of the markets using economic models. As a result, it is mainly useful from an academic perspective. It is not an introductory book. In order to go through it you need background both in economics and energy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent examples, great for use in an energy economics or business class
I was TA for a class, Energy Economics (ENNEC 484W), during the Fall 2006 semester at Penn State University. The professor for the class introduced Dahl's book into the class's curriculum during the Fall semester of 2005.The class covered the first 8 chapters of Dahl's book which included economic topics on perfect competition (explanation of supply and demand), natural monopoly, deregulation, dominant firm model, market structures, and externalities. Each of these economic concepts are fully developed using an example from energy markets. The examples are agreeably the most fitting for each subject. She discusses the deregulation of the electricity market for deregulation, coal markets for perfect competition, and OPEC for the dominant firm chapter. Each chapter is developed with clearly derived numerical examples and useful charts that develop an intuitive understanding of the amount of natural gas, petroleum, coal, etc. reserves in the world and their geographical distribution.I recommend this book for any class that deals with any aspect of energy markets.Since our class was rooted more in the economic theory of energy markets, we were able to use the first half of the text, in addition to extra material such as journal articles, to satisfy our objectives. All of the students in the class gave the book great reviews saying that it was the perfect aid to understanding lecture. ... Product Description
Up until now the use of zero point energy (ZPE) for electricity generation was mere fantasy and science fiction. No one thought it possible for ZPE to offer a source of unlimited energy for homes, cars, and space travel. Some experts still say zero point energy can do nothing useful. The experimental evidence however, now incontrovertibly shows that ZPE is present in measurable quantities in coils and semiconductors. Furthermore, ZPE can be turned on and off, produce an attractive or repulsive force in one direction, besides moving electrons to create electricity flow in a circuit and rectified in semiconductor diodes. All of these discoveries have been made and published only in the past few years, which indicates that future energy trend is toward ZPE power. Zero point energy is the sea of energy that pervades all of space and every atom, often called the physical vacuum. Furthermore, it is estimated to exceed nuclear energy densities. But what is it really? It is the nonthermal, kinetic energy retained by the molecules of a substance at a temperature of absolute zero. Still most people maintain their doubt as to whether it can be found to be useful for human energy needs. This includes the US Department of Energy Ask a Scientist© official website. A fifteen-year old submitted a question, Would Zero-Point Energy be a better source of power than Antimatter? The answers include phrases like a lousy source of energy, no idea how to do this, I can t imagine how it could be practical, and no way to extract the zero point energy from a molecule in order to use it (Department of Energy). The evidence so far is in favor of a nonconservative ZPF, with arguments still raging on both sides. In addition, the capability of ZPF storage and retrieval has convincingly been presented by Dr. Robert Forward with his ZPE corkscrew charge device he called a vacuum-fluctuation battery. An article entitled, Energy Unlimited was published a few years ago when Professor Jordan Maclay from the University of Illinois received a NASA grant to try to extract ZPE from elongated, oscillating, tiny metal boxes. A physics journal article points out, Vacuum fluctuations remain a matter of debate, mainly because their energy is infinite. More strikingly, their energy per unit volume is infinite. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars a glimpse of the future
If you want to more about the theory behind it this is a good book to learn more and understand better the idea. Still for me it was not easy to read but that is because I have no further knowledge of science

2-0 out of 5 stars The web rules!
If you have web access, and who doesn't nowadays, this book will be old hat. Everything discussed in this book and more is available on the web, so, unless you want it for your collection it is not a "must-have".

5-0 out of 5 stars A Very Significant Contribution to the Zero-Point Energy Field
Dr. Tom Valone has done an excellent job creating this overview of selected new Zero Point Energy Technologies. With his rich background in the US Patent Office, plus his intimate associations with many leading-edge researchers, he has successfully distilled these new concepts into a well-organized and clear format. For those wishing to enrich their knowledge of these new theories and inventions,Tom has provided the basic reference material, as well as advanced reference sources for those who wish to delve deeper into the new physics associated with these concepts. Tom's many years of in-depth scientific knowledge and intimate association with key researchers gives him the credientials as a world leader in the field of Alternative Energy. This experience is clearly reflected in his writing and perspective of the various new technologies and devices. Highly recommended! Elliott Maynard, Arcos Cielos Research Center, Sedona, Arizona.

1-0 out of 5 stars What's next: Al Gore discovers ZPE?
The fact that Al Gore is even mentioned, along with the casual statements on global warming (as though everyone knows global warming is a proven fact) renders all other information in this book as near useless. If such liberties are taken with one section, all sections are suspect.

If Mr. Valone can not write a scientifically based book without adding his unwanted political views, he should try authoring books on socialism, where he can express his beliefs on the evils of a capitalistic society (the real target of global warming enthusiasts) and speak lovingly of Al Gore.

Science is based on provable facts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Electromagnetic radiation Transducer of Vacuum Energy
1. What is Zero Point Energy?Zero Point energy is energy that comprises the Zero Point field.Dr. Fred Wolf says, "No matter how cool we make the chamber as we compress the gas, we would find that we could not obtain total order.Greater confinement of each molecule would produce, according to the uncertainty principle, a greater uncertainty in its possible speed and therefore less certainty about its individual behavior.Even though it temperature was reduced to absolute zero, the molecules would still continue to move. Each molecule, however, would no longer be about to occupy a single position at a single time.Instead each would spread out throughout the whole volume of the chamber."
2. Space is rich with activity from virtual particles and full of energy.
3. A famous experiment cooled helium to within microdegrees of absolute zero temperature (-272 C and -273 C). Amazingly, it still remained liquid.
4. Dr. Robert Forward, if ZPE is not conservative, then we can extract an infinite amount of energy.Evidence seems to favor nonconservative ZPF.Dr. Milonni says, the ZPE of a vacuum is infinite in any finite volume.
5. High energy density means tiny wavelength vibration at high frequency. The estimated energy for a limited ZPF is astonishing.
6. Richard Feynman, calculated the energy density of ZPF, the size of a proton would be ten raised to 108th power joules per cubic centimeter. If we convert energy to mass using E=MC^2, we find ten raised to 94 power of grams per cubic centimeter.Space itself contains more energy than matter does for any given volume.
7. Dr. Fabrizo Pinto indicates that the vacuum has pressure, density, and substance. It can move physical objects under certain conditions, the Casimir Engine.
8. Quantum Electrodynamics predicts that the vacuum spawns particles that spontaneously pop in and out of existence. The virtual particles are created from quantum foam and believed to extend through the universe.
9. The electron can be knocked out orbit given sufficient energy, 1.2 million electron volts, leaving a hole with an opposite charge and mass, a positron.
10. 1997, the Casimir force from the ZPE was measured by Los Alamos Laboratory and to be within 5% agreement with theory.
11. The constant virtual particle flux of the ZPE is especially noticeable near the boundaries of bigger particles, because the intense electric field gradient causes a more prodigious decay of the vacuum. The decay of the vacuum will occur spontaneously, giving birth to electrons and positrons.Virtual particles are more likely to become real, or appear out of the vacuum, near the boundary of charged particles and even near the nuclei of atoms.
12. Every charged particle drags around with it a cloud of virtual particles.
13. The electromagnetic and light pervade everything in the universe.
14. All Electromagnetic energy is manufactured from electrons in upper energy levels of atoms as they drop to lower levels and re-radiate that energy difference.
15. Small spheres are desired to create high frequency resonating EMF.Third power cube of the frequency - increase in energy density of ZPE by decreasing size.Ideal is a proton stuck to a neutron. The converter needs to be small.Cold fusion uses deuterons and deuterium, small converters.
16. The existence of a radiation impedance for the electromagnetic radiation from an oscillating charge is show to imply a fluctuating electric field in the vaccum, and application of the general theorem yields the Planck radiation law. The average energy for ZPE is equal t the summation over all available frequencies times R.
17. The Quantum vacuum must fluctuate. When the size of the cavity surrounding an excited atom is increased to the point where it matches the wavelength of the photon that the atom would naturally emit, vacuum field fluctuations at that wavelength flood the cavity and become strong than they would be in free space, temporarily increasing the Casimir force.
18. Dr Pinto says, "the normalized energy density of the radiation field of virtual protons is drastically affected by the dielectric properties of all media involved via the source-free Maxwell equations."The absolute value of the vacuum energy can change just by causing energy to flow from a location to another inside the volume V. It is possible then to create a transducer of vacuum energy. If vacuum energy is not conserved the energy potential is infinite.Electromagnetic radiation or heat is converted into mechanical or electrical energy.Energy production is thought to be 1Kw/M square

5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the title and focus on the methodology provided

I recently re-read this book and was curious to know to what extent (if any) it has lost any of its relevance during the years since it was first published, in 2003. My conclusion? If anything, it is even more relevant now than it was before. However, that said, I still presume to suggest to those who are thinking about reading that they ignore the title and focus on the methodology that Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz introduce and then explain. Of course, full engagement has power. However, I cannot think of even one company among those annually ranked by Fortune to be the most highly admired, the best to work for, etc. that has full engagement. In fact, the results of recent research by the Gallup Organization and Towers Perrin clearly indicate that, on average, about 25-30% of employees are actively and productively engaged, about 35-40% are passively engaged (doing as little as necessary to stay employed), and about the same percentage are actively disengaged, with many of them hostile and having a toxic effect within their workplace.

Obviously, the challenge for business leaders in all organizations (whatever their size and nature my be) is to increase the percentage of those workers who are actively and productively engaged. What do Loehr and Schwartz suggest? All of their insights and recommendations are based on a vast amount of real-world experience with all manner of organizations. What they offer in this volume is the Full Engagement Training System®, a comprehensive and cohesive program that enables us to manage energy efficiently. The methodology is based on four separate but interdependent principles:

1. Full engagement requires drawing on separate but related sources of energy: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. "All four dynamics are critical, none is sufficient by itself and each profoundly influences the others [for better or worse]. To perform at our best, we must skillfully manage each of these interconnected dimensions of energy."

2. Because energy capacity diminishes both with overuse and with underuse, we must balance energy expenditure with intermittent energy renewal. "We rarely consider how much energy we are spending because we take it for granted that the energy available to us is limitless. In fact, increased demand progressively depletes our energy reserves - especially in the absence of any effort to reverse the progressive loss of capacity that occurs with age."

3. To build capacity, we must push beyond our normal limits, training in the same systematic way that elite athletes do. "Stress is not the enemy in our lives. Paradoxically, it is the key to growth. In order to build strength in a muscle we must systematically stress it, expending energy beyond normal levels. Doing so literally causes microscopic tears in the muscle fibers. At the end of a training session, functional capacity is diminished. But give the muscle twenty-four to forty-eight hours to recover and it grows stronger and better able to handle the next stimulus."

4. Positive energy rituals - highly specific routines for managing energy - are the key to full engagement and sustained high performance. "Change is difficult. We are creatures of habit. Most of what we do is automatic and nonconscious. What we did yesterday is what we are likely to do today...A positive ritual is a behavior that becomes automatic over time - fueled by some deeply held value."

As indicated earlier, Loehr and Schwartz have devised what they call the Full Engagement Training System® and one of several key points they make is that both supervisors and those for whom they are directly responsible are active in this program, one that involves a shared journey of observation, revelation, and increased understanding. Another is that there are continuous role reversals for both "students" and "teachers" during frequent knowledge exchanges. Still another key point is that one of the most important drivers is the human need to find meaning, "among the most powerful and enduring themes in every culture since the origin of recorded history." And still another is that those who are purpose-driven must also constantly nurture and regularly renew their "most precious resource," energy, and expend it only in the service of what matters most.

Forget about having a workforce with full engagement and concentrate on increasing the number of workers who are fully engaged. Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz can provide invaluable assistance to those who are now planning or who are only recently embarked on efforts to achieve that worthy objective.

5-0 out of 5 stars A framework to manage your life
Feeling exhausted every day after work? Not satisfied with your fitness level, the depth of your emotional connections, your performance at work? I highly recommend this book if you would like to develop a framework to better manage your life in general. The book describes physical, emotional, mental and spiritual energy and how we need to manage each of them to live a well-round life. It helps you build an actionable plan to achieve those goals.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful ideas for business and life
The Power of Full Engagement was actually much better than I anticipated. Though it is a quick read (not real profound), there are some helpful ideas on how we can live more fulfilling and productive lives. The book is definitely not just for entrepreneurs as it touches upon a range of behaviors from diet to spending time with family. The case studies are a bit weak, but I thought the analogies to running were well done. (Full disclosure: I am an avid runner.) I think I am going to buy a copy for my sibling who is going through a bad break up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Get "Flow" instead
I read this book this morning and I found it to be useless.Mainly, the book frames its goal as becoming a "corporate athlete" and out of this root idea that I disagree with, the book goes on to tell you that humans get energy, spend energy, rest and get excited...and all that that we already know.None of this was actionable, but what was actionable was the psychological shift to becoming a "corporate athlete."

I prefer to think about how my engagements and pursuits in life, such as professional projects like jobs, can enhance my overall life, or how to use that energy to truly productive - and that's why I bought this book, for things of that sort. But it seems this book is written by those company motivator-types that come and tell everyone to get M-M-M motivated! \o/

Outside of the basics, food and rest and things we can manage easily when the rest is in order - when it comes to energy, engagement, our attention and enthusiasm - the meaningful questions seem to be - how do we get engaged? what keeps our attention and why?on what grounds do we gain enthusiasm for things? etc etc.........because the truth is - if you find work to be a not engaging, psyching yourself out will only go so far - there's probably something else going on - maybe the job just sucks, maybe it's how you go about it, or maybe it's how the goals are aligned there. It could be management, it could be relationships, it could be all sorts of things - but reading a book telling you "Oh, you should be engaged!People that are engaged and excited, they do better!"Like seriously....I don't know why this book has such high ratings....it's like hearing your father ramble in monotone about the virtues of being a hard worker - or someone telling you how you have to life fully and with a smile, because it's the way to go --- well, everyone would if they could.Out of a self-improvement book I expect meaningful actionable content.

There's a recent book on how the mind goes into states of truly complete engagement and what the conditions are, and it's called "Flow" by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.I strongly recommend that book.Understanding that won't be the "last thing you ever needed to learn" (how boring would that be anyway?), but I felt I got a lot more out of understanding that, even in the central ideas, than reading through this book this morning.

4-0 out of 5 stars Solid "how to" method
This book has a solid proven method for getting more engaged in your life from every aspect (physically energize, emotionally connected, mentally focused, spiritually aligned) at work and at play. I never thought about managing my energy; only that no matter how much I tried to manage my time, I felt as though at the end of each day, I'd just collapsed into bed, totally spent, with a lot accomplished, but so much unaccomplished, and as though I let someone down that day -- my 3 yr old son, my husband, my job, my friend or family member --my self.
This book has provided an easy to use frame work that is easy to customize to me and helped me determine my values, and put those values at the forefront of my days, align my actions to those priorities and build easy rituals around those values.

My energy is best when I follow my plan. Yes, I stumble, but the structure makes it ease to realign and get back to my plan to live a more purpose driven life day by day. (I also found the iPhone App, Touch Goal, an excellent tool that works well to track my progress against my rituals.)

Book was full of good ideas for this day/age.Shipment was quick and arrived in good condition.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good resource
I found this book very readable and engaging. It really helped me prioritize my home/energy projects.

4-0 out of 5 stars Getting Energy Efficient
With the way the economy is these days, saving money takes new importance. One of the ways to do that is by making smart choices about energy efficient appliances and making your home more energy efficient. This book, designed for homeowners aims to just that and argues that any home can be improved from an energy standpoint.

After a two page introduction that touts the benefits of making your home more energy efficient, the book opens with the idea that you need to develop an energy use plan for your home. Chapter One discusses the differences between energy consumption and carbon emissions, the energy costs in the building materials, and how both big and small changes/fixes are important.Everything adds up and adding it all up is the key to determining how much energy you are using whether it is electrical, gas, propane or oil. Basic math is illustrated along with a couple of case studies before ten obvious choices are briefly discussed such as installing programmable thermostats, changing appliances, adding insulation, upgrading windows and doors ,etc.

Chapter Two is all about "Lighting and Appliances" and delves into the topic by explaining what the "Energy Star" program really means, different types of lighting, what you can do with appliances up to and including replacing them. Along with the text, there are plenty of small sidebar tips and illustrations.

"Water Heating" is the theme of Chapter Three which explains different basic terms as well as how to adjust your habits as well as your water heater. Along with what to look for if you want to replace your water heater, how to insulate the tank and/or water lines is covered along with replacing shower heads and how to go about creating a solar water heating system.

"Heating and Cooling First Steps" is the title of Chapter Four. The basics of airflow, humidity, temperature, comfort zones, etc is covered along with the uses of programmable thermostats, ceiling fans, natural ventilation and whole house fans. Also mentioned are solar screens, reflective films, Venetian blinds and how to improve your roof reflectivity among other topics. Illustrations in black and white are included in this chapter as well as throughout the book along with various relevant tables.

Chapter Five, "Landscaping" moves the focus to what you can do with plants and trees.Beyond knowing what your general climate is you need to know your own home's personal microclimate. Which side gets afternoon sun, which side gets that bone breaking north wind in winter, etc. Once you know that, they suggest various ways to create shade, wind breaks, etc. Along with explaining the basic tree forms (columnar, pyramidal, spreading, among others) as well as how to plant and mulch the book guides readers as to the types of plants and trees might fit best in your particular microclimate. The book does not make specific tree recommendations at all and instead gives you the tools to consider what type of tree you need or want before heading down to your local nursery or landscape center to talk specifics.

"Finding and Sealing Air Leaks" is the theme of Chapter Six.Finding the leaks and determining how had they are begins the chapter before an explanation of various materials available to seal the leaks. Black and white pictures and illustrations help with the basic as does the text which also looks at various issues in walls, attics, and ductwork.

Chapter Seven delves into "Insulation" using the same format of defining the topic, determining what is needed. Along with tables and helpful information, the black and white illustrations showing the right and wrong way to install insulation and black and white photographs showing different types of insulation in various types of attics.

"Windows and Doors" and what to do about them is the topic of Chapter Eight. They may be the biggest heat and cooling loss from your home as the authors note. After explaining types of windows and window ratings, types of window treatments and if necessary, window replacement they follow the same format in their discussion of doors.

"Cooling Systems" is the theme of Chapter Nine. After cheerfully noting that "air-conditioning Systems are expensive and environmentally destructive to operate" they suggest various ways to improve the efficiency of your current ac system such as having the system professionally serviced, cleaning the coils, making sure your filters are changed and the system is charged correctly and appropriate for the home. Room ac units also discussed along with the installation and use of an evaporative cooler.

Chapter Ten moves the focus to "Heating Systems" and looks at the same basic issues in the same format. Improving your duct work along with having your system professionally serviced as well as possible replacement systems are key components of this chapter.

"Photovoltaic Systems" such as solar cells, a solar array, etc is the theme of Chapter Eleven. Not every home site is suitable for a solar panel, array or system and this chapter walks you through how to determine if it is a good idea and then how to go about having something installed.

Chapter Twelve has the title of "Moisture Management and Ventilation." Basically, you don't want mold or mildew in your home and this chapter tells you all the horrible ways moisture (mold/mildew, etc) can wreck your home and how to avoid it, find it if you have it, and deal with it.

Finally, if you are "Building a New Home" then Chapter Thirteen is for you. It discusses various construction and design methods you can use to make sure your new home is the best it can be from an energy use and emission stand point.

A list of various resources, a list of suggested internet keyword topic searches relating to each chapter and a four page index bring this helpful and informative book to a close.

While color pictures and illustrations would have been nice, this 180 page book published last year more than adequately address the topic. Filled with highly technical information simplified but never dumbed down for the reader, plenty of photographs and illustrations, this book provides a guidepost to helping the environment and saving the homeowner money in the long run. Everything in the book is doable by most people and the ideas presented are practical and worthwhile. This might not be the only book you would ever need on the subject, but it is a very good book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Finally, something different
Hillman's depth and breadth of knowledge and insight, combined with her inclination toward poetic language make this book one that generations to come will, no doubt, call a classic.Wherever she has been and whatever she has been doing up to now, thank God she has chosen to share. Not an easy read, this book is a must read for all those change agents serving humanity's spiritual needs and all other conscious travelers on the spiritual path.

4-0 out of 5 stars Awakening the Energies of Love Anne Hillman
I have found this book a source of inspiration, especially the last chapters. Hillman has drawn on personal experience and wide reading, and from input from her own workshops. The structure of the book could benefit from more editing but the content is valuable and thought provoking.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love is The Mystery
After reading this book, it struck me that some books tell 'about' the Truth and others tell the Truth. 'Awakening the Energies of Love' tells the Truth. The author steps right into it, up to her neck, as it were, and takes us with her. On virtually every page the author takes us into her life--courageously, unabashedly. But while standing this deep in the Truth at times can be discomforting, it never feels like what she reveals is 'too private'. On the contrary, what she describes turns out to be as much ours as it is hers since her words then embrace and caress her experiences, becoming reflections of what those deeply personal experiences mean universally, spiritually. How do we use in our own lives these deep inner Truths she has touched? As intimate and deeply personal as Hillman's writing is, it carries, in beautiful prose and poetry, a universal message about love that is rarely articulated quite so clearly and personally. In her own words, we learn that the love we yearn for, even as we erect barriers against it, is "not something we do. It stands revealed as who we really are. Walls fallen away, we find ourselves in communion with everything--in communion with Being itself--I AM." (p. 331)I suspect I will never finish reading this book, for each time I open it again, usually to a random page, I discover a part I have perhaps understood too quickly and so must read again as if for the first time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Work of Art
Anne Hillman is a philosopher and a poet in this wise guide to deepening self-awareness and self-knowledge. She has created a tapestry of rich themes and voices that tell a story of the power of love. I could hear the music of her words on the page and feel the power of her hope. It's a wonderful book. ... Product Description
Chi is the invisible energy of life that flows in and around us throughout the universe. Used skillfully, it can have a remarkable effect on health and vitality—to the degree that you’d be tempted to call it magical, if it weren’t so completely natural. Here is a perfect introduction to chi that explains in a direct and simple way what it is and why it is essential to a healthy and vital life. It provides an easy-to-understand explanation of chi, and then helps readers recognize, develop, and strengthen their own chi through specific breathing techniques and basic exercises, all demonstrated by the author.

There are many books on chi development through t’ai chi and qigong practice, but this one goes deeper to enable you to understand the fundamental principles as you cultivate it. This book is a reference for alternative health professionals such as acupuncturists and shiatsu therapists and their patients, as well as for anyone who practices t’ai chi, qigong, aikido, and other chi-based martial arts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Chi
It truly gives you the essence of Chi in the manner of the older Masters.I find it very helpful as I practice Tai Chi Qui Gong and Martial Arts. There is a wonderful gentleness about it, with a respect for tradition. It is hard to find a copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Eploration of Chi
This book is probably the only one I've found that answers the real questions: "What is chi? Where did it come from? and, what can you do with it?" While the last section of the book illustrates some basic Tai Chi exercises that anyone can do at home, the content would be valuable to those studying acupuncture, herbal medicine, meditation, or chi healing as well -- not just Tai Chi students. Warning: This book looks and sounds deceptively simple, but inside are some pretty intense statements about the Tao, the nature of life and mind and the soul which aren't the usual stuff. It will definitely challenge you to expand your views on Tai Chi and Taoism. Since I like that type of challenge, I give this five stars.

5-0 out of 5 stars great product
The product was as it was described and got the book within couple of days...
no problems at all

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Source...
This book is a fantastic primer on renewable energy. I learned a great deal from reading it, and would highly recommend it.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not sure who this book is really for
First off, this book is a huge collection of scientific information on a lot of subjects which don't get detailed explanations in the news.If you want extremely detailed explanations, here they are.

One problem with the book is that it is not for everyone to read. The product description makes it sound like something for almost anyone, but the content is all technical with very little generalized overview. The chapter(s) on Hydrogen are so lengthy, and Rosa goes so far in each chapter to assign us calculation homework. The sheer mass of detailed technical data may distract a layperson from the general fact that Hydrogen is only useful as a means of energy storage, unlike wind or solar power which actually let us capture unused energy as a replacement for petroleum.

Within one of those chapters, Rosa makes a rather gratuitous comment about the future price of fuel cells, based entirely on a very generalized argument about production. But Rosa doesn't have any special knowledge of fuel cell or iron engine production (or at least he does not reveal any such fact here), so this is out of place in what otherwise appears to be a highly academic book.

In addition to the inconsistent point of view (mass science vs. expert vs. opinion), it is unclear why anyone would want such formula-level information about so many subjects, but would not care that it lacks any skilled educational technique to help non-experts understand things.

I could hardly recommend it to anyone.Even as a reference book, you are better off looking things up online for this sort of information than using printed text which ages.

4-0 out of 5 stars Dense,
At over 800 pages, with ample equations, formulae, and technical descriptions, this is not a book to be read over a leisurely weekend. Be clear - this is an academic text, meant to be studied as part of a formal academic course. The author writes as much in the foreword to the second edition, "This book is based on class notes created in the teaching of Fundamentals of Energy Processes at Stanford since 1976."

The book is divided into four sections:
Part 1: "Heat Engines"
Part 2: "The World of Hydrogen"
Part 3: "Energy from the Sun"
Part 4: "Wind and Water"

Each chapter begins with an introduction to the topic, followed by an in-depth covering of the material, replete with diagrams, schematics (circuit diagrams for example), and formulae and equations.
For example, Chapter 9, "Fuel Cells", the first chapter in the "The World of Hydrogen" section, we are introduced to the types of batteries:
................... | Expendable
Voltaic cells ..... | Nonexpendable ...|.. Rechargeable
....................|..................|.. Refueable

This is followed by an explanation of voltaic cells, with a schematic of a simple fuel cell, containing a cathode and an anode on two sides, and an ion conducting membrane in-between.
The next section describes types of fuel cells, like Alkaline Fuel cells (AFC), Molten carbonate FC, Solid polymer FCs, etc...
Fuel cell reactions are described next, with the equations describing the reactions.

Each chapter has a list of references, and a list of questions and problems.
The index comes in at an anemic 16 pages.

For the non-technical or the lay reader, this book is of limited value, since only a small portion of each chapter is sufficiently simple enough, while the bulk of each chapter gets technical, rapidly.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not lacking anything theoretical
Everything One Needs to Know onFundamentals of Renewable Energy Processes and More! I work in the energy industry and I was interested in understanding the theory behind some specific renewable energy processes from an engineering perspective and this book delivered that in great depth. Each chapter focuses on a particular source of renewable energy and can be read independent of the previous chapters. This is a very good reference book and a lot more than the typical books on renewable energy which are usually primers. But to be completely fair I must say, that I lack the engineering expertise to really comment on the quality and accuracy of the material. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fills a much needed gap
I admit, I bought this book due to the reputation of the author, and once again, Ms. Belanger did not let me down. Some have compared this (unfairly, IMO) to her previous work, The Psychic Vampire Codex.Even for those who identify has psychic vampires, I can't help but recommend this book as a supplement. She makes no bones about energy work being a path of learning, practice--and practice and practice and practice.

To my delight, I found she oriented a lot of her material towards the solitary practitioner, aware that one would not always have access to an understanding partner, a detail I find sadly lacking in most books on the same subject.Thank you for another great gift to the occult community.

5-0 out of 5 stars Psychic Success
Michelle Belanger shares her in-depth knowledge of all aspects surrounding psychic abilities. She gives the reader insight into her progressive views on religion, energy, and much more. Ms. Belanger provides exercises to help better distinguish between our readily accepted 5 senses and the psychic sense we all possess to some degree. Other exercises help you test and develop psychic abilities. Compared to other books I have read on the subject, "The Psychic Energy Codex" is a combination of valuable information and a fantastic workbook one can use and refer to again and again. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Is Zero Point Our Next Energy Source?
If you were fascinated by The Hunt for Zero Point:Inside the Classified World of Antigravity Technology and want to explore these topics further, King's book may be for you. Definitely geared towards people with a technical background, but others will glean the fundamentals. Secrets of Antigravity Propulsion: Tesla, UFOs, and Classified Aerospace Technology is a bit more accessible to all readers, but hopefully books like these will be reviewed by engineers and researchers to finally crack the truth or fiction of zero point. With all the talk of developing new energy sources, shouldn't zero point be explored? Or are we going to continue to focus on flawed fads like ethanol driven by government pork and kickbacks?

5-0 out of 5 stars a masterpiece of free energy 's books
very good book and one of dr. King's masterpieces in the field of knowledge and science of free energy devices

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's the beef?
I am not against 'alternative' speculation.

Terry Witt has written (Null Physics) a tome that proposes (can't say different as quantum theory is fog with numbers) a visually manageable way to view current observations in physics from quantum to relativity all in one formulation. Not it isn't 'One Theory for Dummies'. It is a deep deep and praiseworthy mathematical embodiment of real phenomena. Could be wrong. But that's OK. Maybe, if somehow missing a cog on a gear, it will evoke the better formulation in someone else's head. The point is that Terry's work is hugely evolved and argued stepwise through all facets of real world physics.

This book, on the other hand, is like a bar room rant from somebody who better not have his keys to the car. All disconnected this's and that's. See? Huh? You see? See it? Do you? THEY don't want you to know this because THEY suck your brains or something. ???

A good book to stop the patio table from rocking.

3-0 out of 5 stars There is no such thing as "Zero Point Energy"
There is no such thing as "Zero Point Energy," nor is there "free" or "unlimited" energy.
The claims made by this book are ridiculous.

Perpetual energy, free energy, perpetual motion, etc., are all SCIENCE FICTION ideas which propose that energy is unlimited.

Any physicist will say that energy is the ability to perform work AGAINST OR ALONG A FORCE.
There are four forces: gravity, electro-magnetic, strong nuclear, and weak nuclear.
Basically, the concept of "Zero Point Energy" or "free energy" would contradict all of them.

There is a "theoretical" term called "vacuum" energy, which is the supposed "energy" of free space, but this isn't Zero, it's just a VERY LOW ENERGY STATE. It isn't free or renewable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Quest for Zero Point Energy is worth reading.
It is worth reading, along with T.E. Bearden's, Nikola Tesla, and John Bedini's work. The EM theory has many errors and if your a novice in this field and want some direction in how to approach the classical EM theory and understand where the problem areas exist. You will eventually understand the fundamental principles of extracting free energy from the vacuum and it's not as absurd as people would like for you to believe, in other words the world is definitely not flat. Product Description
Winner in the cover category of the AIGA 50 Books/50 Covers of 2003 competition presented by the American Institute of Graphic Arts

In Energy at the Crossroads, Vaclav Smil considers the twenty-first century's crucial question: how to reconcile the modern world's unceasing demand for energy with the absolute necessity to preserve the integrity of the biosphere. With this book, he offers a comprehensive, accessible guide to today's complex energy issues—how to think clearly and logically about what is possible and what is desirable in our energy future.

After a century of unprecedented production growth, technical innovation, and expanded consumption, the world faces a number of critical energy challenges arising from unequal resource distribution, changing demand patterns, and environmental limitations. The fundamental message of Energy at the Crossroads is that our dependence on fossil fuels must be reduced not because of any imminent resource shortages but because the widespread burning of oil, coal, and natural gas damages the biosphere and presents increasing economic and security problems as the world relies on more expensive supplies and Middle Eastern crude oil.

Smil begins with an overview of the twentieth century's long-term trends and achievements in energy production. He then discusses energy prices, the real cost of energy, and "energy linkages"—the effect energy issues have on the economy, on quality of life, on the environment, and in wartime. He discusses the pitfalls of forecasting, giving many examples of failed predictions and showing that unexpected events can disprove complex models. And he examines the pros and cons not only of fossil fuels but also of alternative fuels such as hydroenergy, biomass energy, wind power, and solar power. Finally, he considers the future, focusing on what really matters, what works, what is realistic, and which outcomes are most desirable. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
Regardless of your position on global warming, this is a very scholarly and informative must-read book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Hard But Useful Read
Read this for a Global Energy course, and I might I write that this is one book that I would not recommend to any one that is not working or investing in the industry. This read was very 'heavy' for the passive reader, and covered a large amount of numbers and forecasts that the author himself disputes.

ENERGY AT THE CROSSROADS

MIT Press 2003

A Book Review by Steve Baer (email-zomework@zomeworks.com)
December 2003

So many good things about Vaclav Smil's Energy at the Crossroads make it difficult to explain the shortcomings.

Smil's arguments are straightforward and his statistics, with one giant exception, are extensive.
He doesn't bring the false drama to his chapters on oil that so many authors are unable to resist.Smil knows a great deal about our use of fossil fuels. Who should know more than he after over thirty years of study, yet he says he doesn't know how much more oil there is, or how long it will last.Smil is skeptical of such pronouncements. His long chapter on "against forecasting" is alone worth the price of the book. Our relationship with energy is simply too complex for us to see into the future. Some may not wish to read books like this. After all, isn't it easy to say, "I don't know and don't think anyone else does either"?

I am so glad for the few sentences Smil writes about himself, about his youth in Czechoslovakia. He tells of splitting the mountains of firewood during the summer which he lights (with difficulty) before dawn in the winter; about the oil furnace and now the 90% efficient natural gas stove that supplies any heat the sun doesn't for his passive solar home in Manitoba.

Energy at the Crossroads lifts up and away from its numbers and graphs. The joy of the hot-rodder or jet pilot appears many times as Smil recounts how we have arrived at our turbo jets, our 500 kW households (including vehicles), our enormous oil tankers, so effective that shipping costs hardly change with distance. These certainly are accomplishments to revel in, and Smil does.He includes some marvelous paragraphs on steel, energy's companion, guardian and nursemaid for today's technology. With Smil, when you reach the edge of a chapter's topic, the adjoining territory, which he hasn't time to explore thoroughly, is likely completely familiar to him.For Smil has studied more than the carbon in coal, oil, wood and gas.He has also investigated Nitrogen and Phosphorous, which he mentions in passing.

While Smil rejoices in the powers we have, he never appears determined to go ever forward. He is too open minded and sophisticated to crave ever larger, ever more powerful anything. In several places he asks what was so bad about life in France or Japan during the 60's when these accomplished societies used modest amounts of energy. Why do we need more?Smil would be just as happy if we were to go sideways.

Despite the strengths the overall mood of the book is wrong. The problem must be the forces at work on Smil; the pressures he and the rest of us contend with.

First, consider his publisher the MIT Press. Smil mentions how pleased he is that the MIT Press published his last five books. The MIT Press may sell many copies of its books, but they put little effort into editing. The present volume introduces terms such as TOE after we have gotten used to GJ and EJ and never explains what the letters mean (ton of oil equivalent). Why didn't MIT help its author? In Smil's earlier book, Energies, power and energy are confused. The same confusion is in D.E. Nye's book on electrifying America. No freshman could pass physics I making these mistakes.Smil deserves better. Sales, cover design, jacket blurbs, and promotion must outweigh clarity and accuracy with the MIT Press.

An even greater disappointment than ship shod editing is the statistics and treatment of renewable energy.Smil knows all about the power of people at work; how many Watts they are worth, how someone lifting sacks compares to a conveyer belt.He has discussed this in other books. Why does he leave out the muscle power of six billion people from his energy accounting? Why does he forget his own solar heated house?

Something has cast a spell over Smil's energy accounting.Smil's statistics are a hormone to accelerate growth of electricity, coal, oil and large industries. There should be a warning, like those on medicine bottles, of the side effects of taking these studies seriously - the impairment of architecture, agriculture, city planning, and birth defects in forming societies. According to Smil there is no travel by foot or bicycle. No work is done by the strengths of our bodies; no light or warmth passes through windows; clothes don't dry on clotheslines. We don't use brooms, mops, shovels or picks, only power tools. The only renewable energies are wind generators and photovoltaic panels, both of which remain heavily subsidized and are manufactured chiefly by huge international corporations. What introduced this mood into the book?It doesn't fit with the details.

Let us remember what is would cost each and every one of us six billion if we had to pay at today's prices for the sunlight that hits our earth. It would be about $50,000 per day for each of us and another $4,000 a night for a full moon.Though we will never pay this, it doesn't make it any less valuable or any less important to remind ourselves of, as we sell ourselves things dug or pumped out of the earth.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not entirely objective...
Certainly a solidly researched book. Mr. Smil leans over, it seems, to be "objective," but the arguments are weighted; we are warned against the gloom and doom version of the Hubbertites, and it would seem, indeed, that it is sheer folly to predict the imminence of the oil "peak." Much of the argument against the "peakists" (Campbell, Leherrere, etc.) seems to be based on a close reading of Odell--hardly an entirely reliable source. So it seems we will be able to depend on cheap oil for a long time... But then comes the chart on p. 211, which shows 3 (count em) peaks, the first of which is virtually identical to that of Campbell and Co., and the least optimistic of which puts the peak around 2035--essentially the official US version (peak in 36 years). The median is around 2025.

Sorry, Mr. Smil, but 20 years is not, from a historical perspective, a huge difference. The peak is coming soon, we will have to face it, and you do very little to consider the really horrifying implications. Mass starvation, anyone? How will all the fertilizer needed to produce the crops to feed the planet be produced without cheap oil? The author rather hopefully suggests that a new energy source might even replace oil, just as oil once replaced coal. Such as??? To back up his argument on this, (again, p. 211) he quotes no less than Lovins, whom he excoriates elsewhere.

But, have no fear, technology will rescue us, at least in the case of oil--and those rapidly depleting wells? Well, in the past they haven't petered out as quickly as foretold, so that means next time they won't either... Innovations will help us get 65% of the oil, instead of the former 40%... Wind power? Forget it... not a really significant factor, even after 2025, when (according to Mr. Smil himself) oil will be in decline. Why not? The technology won't be developed! It can be for oil, but not for wind! Don't ask why!

A very slanted book, then, still betting everything on oil, despite the fact that it itself demonstrates the imminent end of the fossil fuel regime.

For a more convincing read, see Richard Heinberg's *The Party's Over*. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great! The book came early and in great condition
Trustworthy, good condition and the book came early.
The book is a birthday present for a friend. According to my friend, the information is very useful to get an idea of wind turbine design.

4-0 out of 5 stars Real Handbook for Wind Energy
A deep look into the wind energy and wind conversion. Very extensive and deep into details considering the wind power technical aspects. I strongly advise for those in the technical wind energy area dealing with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Reference for Acedemic and Professional Engineering
I have read many similar books, I have also read much of the latest literature on wind turbine aerodynamics. Thus, I can say that of all the books written on wind turbines this book is written at the highest level. Much of the content within this book reflects what is best theory for practicle wind turbine engineering. Very indepth analysis of the aerodynamics and explains a lot of the concepts in great detail, where other books will gloss over. There are some things that readers should be aware of, first this book is only for people serious about wind turbine engineering. It is written at a level where some engineering knowledge is needed. I would recomend it for graduate students and proffesionals, but not for part time enthusiasts and hobyists.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must in your Wind Energy Collection
For anyone interested in wind energy this book is a must. When first take a look at the book you get pretty scaredbutjust let timego by while you get acquainted with more topics dealing withwind energyand you'll love it. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and in depth
This book was written by people who spent their lives for something they loved. Their passion is evident from the in depth analysis and their personal contribution to many aspects of the presented theory.
This book is highly recommended to engineers and students, however it might not be very useful to people with limited engineering knowledge.
And a personal comment: If you are a Mechanical, of Aeronautical engineer fascinated by aerodynamics, David Sharp's section will surly challenge and intrigue you... ... Read more

Product Description
A practical guide for how to protect yourself, your business, and the people you care about from those who prey on and consume the energy of others.
* Outlines the basic laws that govern the interchange of life energy.
* Reveals how to calculate your own energy balance and identify personal danger zones.
* Offers exercise programs to attain a balanced personal energy level and build an "energy immune system".

Our lives are a constant exchange of energy. More often than not we are like molecules, randomly reacting and responding to external energy forces that we are not aware of. One such force is the energy vampire: individuals who take excessive amounts of energy without giving anything in return, leaving us drained and ineffectual.

Dorothy Harbour provides a clear guide to self-protection from individuals and situations that drain our personal energy. From exercises such as "musical aura stimulation" and meditations like "the pillar of light" we learn how to strengthen our auras and ground ourselves psychologically. Numerous case studies--from "love vampire" to "aura protection against sexual harassment"--teach us how to recognize the energy vampires in our midst. Other helpful practices demonstrate how to cleanse our subconscious of "psycho-trash," protect ourselves and family from energy vampires, and even lovingly cure the vampires themselves. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting book
I found the case studies in the book very interesting. I would never have believed a few years ago that such things exist but something happened to me a few years ago that I could not explain. I had always been in a very good health, running marathons and recovering quickly from illnesses. Then suddenly I had no force even for walking, I was extremely stressed and afraid of something inside me.
Through spritual meditation and connection to my higher self (that took me about a year) I realised I was being drained of energy. I went to a specialist and it turned out somebody (a healer I had visited 2,5 years ago!) was connected to my heart chakra.
I have been free for a month now and my face does not look so drained any more. I have more energy but I still struggle with fear (can't change that overnight).
I bought this book in order to protect myself from now onwards. If such a phenomina as bio vampirism exists, the measures described by Dorothy Harbor should also work. However, I still cannot see my own aura=)

4-0 out of 5 stars Great resource for becoming aware of your energy, and assisting in stopping the drain of it
Bottom Line: Buy It
Great resource! It spelled out a lot about why perhaps, certain people make you feel certain ways (some you like to be around and feel happy and good, others seem to make you tired). The author also gave examples of cases, where she helped people who were being drained (in most cases completely unaware of it) and lists what exercises she had them do to protect themselves.
The book is also filled with exercises you can do to help clear, strengthen and protect your energy.Fantastic exercises to do, no matter how you feel, but especially great to do when you feel tired or rundown in anyway (even better if you notice it right after socializing or being around particular people).
I didn't find it religious, which was nice..meaning when you do the exercises you could insert your own particular beliefs (i.e. the white light could be Jesus for you, or whomever).
My one complaint, is I wished the exercises were printed in a way you could easily make a copy (for your personal reference when attempting each exercise) or better yet on tear out cards.
Would also recommend Energy Medicine by Donna Eden, as it has numerous exercises for strengthening, and correcting energy flows.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical and a good reference
I found this book extremely interesting, especially the introduction. Even though there are some exercises that I wouldn't do myself, that involve rituals, but the mental exercises were extremely efficient.

I also loved the case studies, which explained a lot of behaviors/traits that others possess and certain cases that I could use and benefit greatly if I was ever in that particular situation, especially when it comes to pressure in the workplace.

4-0 out of 5 stars I still can't see auras
I have come in for a lot of ribbing for buying this book, even from people who unequivocally believe some other people are out to bleed you dry. I think the defensive shield-raising exercises are as good as anything else around, but I don't think aura-viewing is something everyone can develop as easily as the author suggests.I'm going to lend it to my metaphysically-inclined friend who had never heard of grounding and centering and shielding.

2-0 out of 5 stars not new material. . .
This book describes will how moral choices can save us from victimization. The parts about holiness or "positive energy" as a defense against people who would use us through physical means is also good advice. The thoughts on how to achieve a state of holiness are crude to non existent. The book also neglects to show us the very phenomena that the book's title advertises.
If you are looking for a book that tells you instances of people avoiding physical threats, the you will appreciate parts of this book. However, many authors have illustrated adequately these situations and in my opinion in much more completely and appropriately. As for the phenomena of psychic vampirism, the subject is not adequately addressed. ... This is one book that energy healers should consider adding to their library. Starr Fuentes has brought us

manifesting change in our lives, our communities, our world).
In this book she reveals the numerous healing techniques she has learned from around the world, from basic
to the advanced, for beginning healers to Masters. Showing us that we are Co-Creators of our lives.
Truly a great gift for us all to have and use.

5-0 out of 5 stars How Much Confidence Do You Really Have?
This is a good book to have in your library if you are involved in bodywork or alternative healing practices.Good recognition of the TIME it takes to actually develop healing energies and control them responsibly.I have seen too many practioners jump into the "business" and create awful emotional messes for themselves and their clients. This is serious stuff. If you don't know what you are doing--keep out!
But this book will clue you in on the risks, rewards and to determine if this long path is for you.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, but...
I have heard of Starr Fuentes and know that she has a great reputation, so I was excited to read this book. This proved to not be useful for me, though, although it may very well prove useful to you.

I think Ms. Fuentes is the sort of healer who intuitively came upon much of what she knows of healing, and is therefore not very good at communicating exactly what it is she does. Thus, there are instructions like, "When the energy is hot, run cool energy through your hands"; she describes the qualities of the Elements - for example, the qualities of Earth energy - and then says, "Use Earth energy."

For readers who are on the same wavelength and also very intuitive, this book will prove useful. To others - not so much, I think.
