5-0 out of 5 stars super condition on book, and great service
Thanx for being efficient and sending a book in such good condition (I love this book!)

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational book
This book helped me change my habits from an unhealthy life to a completely raw, living foods lifestyle.I look so much better and feel beautiful and healthy.

4-0 out of 5 stars great introductory book to raw food
I am very new to raw food and as looking for a book to give me a good introductory review to what this "raw food" is, why is it good for you and how can I easily try to incorporate it into my diet. This book covered all of it and was quite motivating for me to try this. The one thing I was looking for in this book was some more background as to the principles but great book overall.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Resource
After looking into several different books regarding the Raw Food diet, it was recommended to me that I check out Natalia Rose's books and this one is great! Recipes, tips, a transition plan for those just starting, and more on life force energy and what we need to do to boost it, more so than just our diets. This is an excellent resource to pair with other books and online resources, whether you're new to raw food or have been in the know for years.

2-0 out of 5 stars More Juice Detox type of book than raw food recipe book
There are about 2 recipes I've used repeatedly after having this book for years now, but that's it.Much of the book is preaching on how we need to detox and juice. This book is more on an extreme level. For day to day raw food I'd search elsewhere. ... Read more

Product Description
There are many misconceptions about the future of global energy often presented as fact by the media, politicians, business leaders, activists, and even scientists_wasting time and money and hampering the development of progressive energy policies. Energy Myths and Realities: Bringing Science to the Energy Policy Debate debunks the most common fallacies to make way for a constructive, scientific approach to the global energy challenge. When will the world run out of oil? Should nuclear energy be adopted on a larger scale? Are ethanol and wind power viable sources of energy for the future? Vaclav Smil advises the public to be wary of exaggerated claims and impossible promises. The global energy transition will be prolonged and expensive_and hinges on the development of an extensive new infrastructure. Established technologies and traditional energy sources are persistent and adaptable enough to see the world through that transition.Energy Myths and Realities brings a scientific perspective to an issue often dominated by groundless assertions, unfounded claims, and uncritical thinking. Before we can create sound energy policies for the future, we must renounce the popular myths that cloud our judgment and impede true progress. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Rational
I really enjoyed this completely rational look at our current energy predicament. He doesn't shy away from telling the truth to spare feelings or forward a political side.

3-0 out of 5 stars Worth a look
Three stars may be a bit overrated, but it is worth something for the challenge of trying to figure out what the author is getting at.Being published by the American Enterprise Institute, with Dick Cheney on the board and Lynne Cheney and Newt Gingrich on the research staff, don't expect this book to the leading edge of environmentalism and alternative energy.

Smil does mention global warming, but only briefly.

His main theme seems to be, "Don't put money and effort into seeking alternative energy solutions because they could not be provided in the short term; somehow any attention to alternative energy would detract from the current main energy sources: fossil fuels". He claims to be presenting his case from a totally rational perspective, and slams those with different views as operating on emotion and not on sound engineering and science.Smil is a Distinguished Professor of Environment and Environmental Geography at the University of Manitoba, and holds a doctorate in some unstated field from Penn State U.The question is whether this qualifies him for the rigorous engineering anlysis he claims others lack.

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Generation: The Hard Facts Unveiled
We have often heard authoritative statements made by various reputable individuals about new ideas for producing plenty of energy in the near future - cleanly, efficiently and cheaply. These often involved new approaches combined with new scientific/technological advances of various sorts. But as the months, years and even decades pass by, we are left still waiting for these ideas, or perhaps some offshoots, to materialize. In this book, the author explains the reasons for these shortcomings and warns about any such statements that may currently being made. As the author puts it, the book is "aimed at criticizing assorted myths and misconceptions [about energy-related issues], and in doing so has mostly had to correct excessively positive or unjustifiably enthusiastic expectations and interpretation" (p. 156). Only in one case presented in the book has the opposite been done, i.e., to address a myth that is unjustifiably too negative. The myths discussed are related to: electric cars, cheap nuclear electricity, soft energy, peak oil, i.e., the so-called Hubbert's peak, sequestration of carbon dioxide, liquid fuel from plants, electricity from wind, and the pace of energy transitions. For some, this book may be an eye-opener; for others, it may confirm their suspicions. And for the enthusiasts who are, in all honesty, promoting some of these myths, the hard facts presented may be terribly discouraging.

The writing style is clear, occasionally witty, very authoritative, rather formal but also relatively accessible. The book reads like a set of scientific reports - one for each topic being addressed; consequently, one might say that the prose is often rather dry. As is standard for scientific reports, the text is dense with information, contains a great many facts and figures, has several useful diagrams and is extensively referenced. This book is likely to be most appreciated by those who are concerned about future energy production/consumption, e.g., policy makers, politicians, scientists, engineers and interested members of the public.

5-0 out of 5 stars Has Stood the Test of Time
Registered Tai Chi Chuan Instructor - TCUGB
Instructor - Northern Wu Style Tai Ji Quan Global Association

The Way of Energy is really two books for the price of one as Lam Kam Chuen teaches readers the distinct Ba Duan Jin and Zhan Zhuang Chi Kung systems.

Lam teaches a version of the Ba Duan Jin, or Eight Pieces of Brocade, as a complementary exercise to his Zhan Zhuang. Lam's rationale is that the Eight Pieces will help to improve the body's ability to handle increased chi flow resulting from Zhan Zhuang practice.

Lam doesn't identify the location of the chi meridians that will be enhanced by each Brocade but he does describe the specific benefit of each exercise. Furthermore, Lam gives basic and advanced versions of each Brocade so that levels of difficulty and capability are balanced.

Lam's Zhan Zhuang system comes from the lineage of the famous martial artist Wang Xiang Zhai and in "The Way" Lam shares teachings from Wang's original (Chinese) manuscripts.

Lam teaches the five basic Zhan Zhuang postures with clear illustrations, photos and descriptions. Typical physical reactions are also documented.

Lam goes on to teach progressively more difficult Zhan Zhuang postures and practices together with "mentality exercises" to derive further benefits.

Lam also describes the use of Zhan Zhuang in daily life and includes exercise regimes for various ailments.

The book is beautifully illustrated. In addition to drawings and photos relating to the Chi Kung there are many uplifting photographs of trees accompanied by relevant poetry.

I bought this book almost 20 years ago. Since then "The Way of Energy" has rightly become a modern classic. It is still as useful and important today as it was when first published. Lam is to be admired for sharing his Chi Kung so openly and empowering his readers to take positive and personal action to improve their own health.

This book is a very highly recommended buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't miss this practice!
Zhan Zhuang (standing like a tree) is the most important fundamental practice for Chinese internal martial arts (like tai chi, yi chuen and pakua). The most comprehensive system of Zhan Zhaung was perfected by the grandmaster of yi chuen Master Wong, and the author of this book master Lam is from this best-practice lineage.Master Lam has done an excellent job in presenting this best practice to the west in this and other books of his.Incidentally, Grandmaster Wong had adamantly asserted his Zhan Zhuang is NOT chi kung, but an energy system of the muscular-cum-bone structure built from visualization (or suggestion), relaxation and structural (mostly circular or triangular) power. The reason behind is that Grandmaster Wong's system clearly distinguished itself from Taoist systems (of some tai-chi practitioners in particular) that view microcosmic orbit circulation as the fundamental practice of Chinese internal martial arts (the best Taoist system available in the west is as taught by Mantak Chia). To this debate, Zhan Zhuang clearly stands as the more appropriate for self-learners and safer to practice in general.

The additional benefit of Zhan Zhuang is that it can be used as a stand-alone system for patients suffering and/or recovering from various ailments, in particular in relation to impairment of movements and structural/ailment-related problems. In his later days Grandmaster Wong and his student master Yu (sifu of master Lam) did a lot of work to this end.

It is therefore a highly recommended practice for folks seeking for good health. And master Lam has done an excellent job in presenting this practice in clear and understandable form. One possible drawback of this practice: it is too simple, i.e. some people tend to give up this practice (though experienced its benefits!) due to boredom. My suggestion: for cases like this, practice Zhan Zhuang for 6 months to a year and then, additionally, pick up one martial art form like tai-chi, yi-chuen or pakua).

5-0 out of 5 stars I am feeling so good now
This is absolutely the ultimate beginner's guide to Zhan Zhuang.
The text is crystal clear and the illustration is superb.
The authors really know what they are teaching and try their best to show how to do it without reservation.

After practicing Zhan Zhuang for a few weeks, I am really into this and feeling very energized.
No wonder this book is still in print after 18 years.
Highly recommended!

5-0 out of 5 stars The way to Healing Energy
Love all of Master Lum's book, I find them to be very helpful in understanding the importants of how Chi Kung Exercises help you in healing. I feel that Chi Kung has help to save my life, and so in reading this book along with many others, it just help me to be that much more determend to continue in trying to master the art of Chi Kung/Qi Kong.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Health Benifits
There is not much I can add that other reviewers already have not said, but the book and the author deserve praise. The Qi Gong is deceptively simple, but provides you with numerous benefits if you follow through. The practice is called Zhan Zhang, and revolves around standing postures, i.e. "standing stake," or "embracing the ball," a form of standing meditation Qi Gong.

In addition to Qi Gong, this practice contains a core element of both Taiji Quan and Bagua Zhang as it relates to proper posture and balance. It should give you a better understanding of balance as your body relates to gravity and motion, and should considerably improve your health, posture, back, and joints. This is definitely one of my favorite books.

Product Description
A new edition of the bestseller

• The first book to reveal in the West the Taoist techniques that enable women to cultivate and enhance their sexual energy

• Reveals Taoist secrets for shortening menstruation, reducing cramps, and compressing more chi into the ovaries for greater sexual power

• Teaches the practice of total body orgasm

For thousands of years the sexual principles and techniques presented here were taught by Taoist masters in secret only to a small number of people (sworn to silence), in the royal courts and esoteric circles of China. This is the first book to make this ancient knowledge available to the West.

The foundation of healing love is the cultivation, transformation, and circulation of sexual energy, known as jing. Jing energy is creative, generative energy that is vital for the development of chi (vital life-force energy) and shen (spiritual energy), which enables higher practices of spiritual development. Jing is produced in the sexual organs, and it is energy women lose continually through menstruation and child bearing. Mantak Chia teaches powerful techniques developed by Taoist masters for the conservation of jing and how it is used to revitalize women's physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Among the many benefits conferred by these practices are a reduction in the discomfort caused by menstruation and the ability to attain full-body orgasm. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing Love Through Tao
Great Book, Highly recommended for the beginning tantra student, offers all the technicalities, yet is nowhere near in describing the true effects of tantra training and its possibilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every woman should practice what is in this book
It takes years to really master the techniques in here...and when you do, the benefits are amazing. Not just sexually...your health and wellness is greatly improved in a way that nothing else can achieve.

1-0 out of 5 stars Terrible
This is one of the worst books ever read or should I say attempted to read. Title is VERY misleading as to what the book is about. Written by a man and I am wondering how he knows so much about a womans sexuality. Would not reccomend this book for purchace to anyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Serious Taoistic tantra exercises
In depth refined awareness exercises for women who are serious about getting a deeper sense of the sexual/life stream and its 'home' in the genitals.
Not light reading. You have to practice the exercises for this book to make any real sense.
A must buy if you are into that kind of work and pretty uninteresting if you aren't!

5-0 out of 5 stars IT WORKS!
I have to admit that I don't even care about the origin of the practice, about the lineage, titles or whatever - I'm only interested if when I applied a teaching and practice in my life - do I get the desired results - and I guarantee if you apply the information from this book, if you engage in the practices described, you will notice wonderful results - in terms of increased sexual magnetism, increased energy for healing, rejuvenation and spiritual growth (yes, yes, yes - you may even get rid of some wrinkles), and of course, more fabulous sex.

I have attended a workshop with Mantak Chia way back in 1987 and while I had this book, I have recently also purchased the set of videos.I find all of them valuable - workshop, because it gave us all opportunity to clarify anything we might have needed to clarify about the practice; book, because it went into greater lenghts in explaining finer points; and video set, because it's easy to follow and it's great to refresh some points one might have forgotten (after all, there is only so much one can remember after attending a two-day workshop and there's only so long that one can retain the information).

I was passionate about my practice after attending the workshop - however my practice consisted mainly from solitary practice dealing with generation and circulation of sexual energy - which I at time practiced even for 7 hours a day, during the first six months (later on, I have reduced the amount of practice) - however, certain benefits of my initial intense practice remained and have tremendously benefited me with other energy and spiritual practice I was (and still am) engaged in.

I feel deeply grateful for this book and for the teachings Mantak Chia brought to the west. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars No problems
It arrived with no problem , but some days later from the original arrival date.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every man should practice what is in this book
For men, the techniques in this book are critical for preserving their life force energy. You are endowed with a set amount at birth and as you lose it, aging and health problems set in more quickly.By using the techniques in this book, men can conserve and preserve their life force energy and re-channel it in the body to increase vitality and health.Plus, you can learn how to truly please your lover ;)

4-0 out of 5 stars A more esoteric version of Taoist yoga practice
Mantak Chia is always comprehensive and detail in his approach, and has the good intention to keep (his version of) Taoist yoga practice alive and, hopefully, prosper. His sex-related books actually are selling better than his other chi-kung (and internal martial arts) or meditation books, probably there are more people in the west looking for multiple-orgasm than good health (both mental and physical) and high-level Taoist enlightenment towards psyche immortality.Or is it the case that his more sex-related books actually have been driving away people seeking advice on the other subjects? If the latter is more true, then that would be a pity, because his chi-kung (and internal martial arts) knowledge is excellent (probably one of the very best), his meditative approach is very good too, though sometimes, for Mantak's want of completeness, the presentation itself will likely to unduly complicate the practice.

My advice: folks, don't be scared away by Matak's (over) insistence on practicing sex-alchemy as an essential part for his other practices. If you have no intention to complicate your sexual bahavior, go directly to Matak's other practices (and enjoy sex as usual).

Back to main topic, concerning Matak's Taoist approach to sex.Suffice to say, it is NOT the mainstream sex approach in Taoist Yoga.Dual-practice is a side (esoteric even by mainstream Taoism, with or without using sexual energy/libido as stimulus) practice. And there are indeed two streams of Dual-practice, the more common dual-practice is a practice of meditation using a younger partner (applicable to middle-age and up male and female, for the purpose of a psyche stimulation of the libido), and practice with intercourse is the most esoteric version. So folks, I believe Mantak must have some good stuffs, but practice and know where you stand in Taoist tradition.

There is in fact an important book available in the west that use sexual energy (or to use a more appropriate term, libido) as stimulus to promote ching Chi that is to be practiced in solo, using deep and pure meditation as an inducement.I was told that is a very time consuming way of practice, and probably that's way few people nowadays use this more mainstream approach, except some who have devoted their lives to practice and preach the stuff as a religion.By the way, the book I mentioned is Taoist Yoga: Alchemy & Immortality translated by Charles Luk (principally a leading Buddhist practitioner by profession).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good stuff

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Excellent! Book is great so far. Seller sent off promptly and book is in fantastic condition! Top notch experience all around!

3-0 out of 5 stars Energy Essentials for Witches and Spellcasters
Some of the book was good, and other parts I felt were a little boring.

5-0 out of 5 stars If You Want To Learn To Cast Spells
I have several books sitting on my shelves and none come close to this one. Mya Om teaches you how to cast a spell in this book and the way she explains it, it's as if she were sitting across the table from you carrying on a conversation. She doesn't talk about the hocus pocus things. I use to think I had to do so many rituals before even getting started with my spellcasting. I can hardly wait to cast my next spell, her way, and watch what happens. The way she has explained it, I can't fail! For all newbies, I highly recommend this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good
This book is well-written and easy to follow. It is non-denominational, making it easy no matter what path one is following. Her exercises walk you up through the levels easily. Her style of teaching is like sitting across the table from her while sharing a cup of coffee while learning. I really like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading for Spellcasters
I knew I had to have this book as soon as I saw the title. I think it's long overdo for someone to have written a book on how to actually make spells work. When the book itself arrived I was a little disappointed. It's a pretty small book to have a list price of $14.95! But as I started to read it I knew that it was worth every penny. When the author wrote in the Introduction: "As you become more experienced, you'll realize that there is a difference between Wicca as a religion and witchcraft as a skill." I knew that I was going to love this book! It's refreshing to see that there are Wiccans out here that realize that anyone of any religion (and no religion) can practice witchcraft, because witchcraft is basically the practice of magic and spells. I also found it interesting that when the author moved to America when she was in her early teens, less than a year later she discovered Wicca. This is exactly what happened to me! I've since moved on to only practicing witchcraft and don't consider myself Wiccan, but it was the religion that showed me that there are others out there practicing magic and that it wasn't all in my head. I also found it interesting that the author comes from an Islamic background, because most of the books I have are by people who come from a Christian or Jewish background.

Now to the actual book itself. This book has seven chapters. Chapter one, "Foundations of Spellwork," is excellent because it talks about the mindset of the witch. If you cast a spell but you are not physically and mentally ready for the results, your spell will probably fail or manifest in a way you didn't want it to. This chapter has exercises that help you get clear on what you want or need and how those things might affect your life if they manifest. This is very important because if you're not really clear on what you want, how do you expect the universe to give it to you? Chapter two, "Sensing Energy," has a bunch of exercises to get in touch with the energies around you. To be honest, I didn't find much use for most of them. I liked the exercise to awaken the chakra centers, the one to get in touch with earth energy, and the one to clear negative energies from your aura. The other exercises, like getting in touch with the energy of objects, plants, animals and humans I didn't find that useful for me personally, but I can see how they can be useful to other people. Chapter three, "Manipulating Energy," is really the meat of the book. Here you will find various exercises of raising, directing, and using energy. Once again, there are some exercises that didn't speak to me personally. Like raising energy with chanting, dance or song. Those might be useful if I didn't live with other people. But she did provide a technique of raising earth energy and shaping it into an energy ball that I did find very useful for those of us who prefer mental/direct magic without any other trappings. I was glad that the author mentioned throughout the book that we don't really need physical tools to cast spells, though they can be helpful to focus one's energy. This chapter also has techniques for charging charms and candles. Chapter four, "Revising Existing Spells and Writing Your Own," is another excellent chapter that's been missing from most magic books I've read (I've read hundreds of them!) and she goes further than any other author I've read in explaining how to revise existing spells and writing your own. She provides examples of actual spells and then revises them so that they make sense and actually include instructions on when and where you are supposed to raise and direct energy. Chapter five, "Other Useful Techniques," has some interesting ideas on manipulating energy. There's a section on kitchen witchery which I didn't find interesting but others might. What I did find interesting were her techniques for energy shields and glamour. Very interesting and it shows the reader that the applications of energy are only as limited as your imagination. Chapter six, "Ten Practical Tips," is a short chapter with some useful advice from the author. Chapter seven, "Guided Meditations," is another short chapter providing two guided meditations which I didn't find that useful or interesting.

Overall, I think that this book belongs on every witch's bookshelf. If you've got a bunch of spellbooks with spells that sound interesting but aren't really clear in how to raise and direct energy to make them work, this is the book for you! I own hundreds of books on magical topics and I think I'd put this one in my top five of all time favorite and useful books. And even though the author is Wiccan, she realizes that not everyone reading her book is and it was refreshing to be talked to like an adult when she mentioned ethics. I also liked how she shared personal stories of her own spells, which you don't find in many magical books these days. The only problem that stands out for me with this book is that there are several paragraphs from chapter one that are repeated word-for-word in chapter two! But that's a minor complaint, and it probably has more to do with the editor than the author. I also didn't care for some of the exercises, but that's a personal thing. I can see how those exercises can be useful to other people, they just didn't speak to me personally.

In conclusion, this is one of the best books on magic available today, and one of the most useful if you want to cast successful spells.

Highly recommended! ... Read more

This book reveals secrets of qigong/chi kung and Taoist practice that are seldom taught in the West even today... and were virtually unheard of before the publication of this book...

Had I reviewed this book when I originally read it, I'm sure I would have given it 5 stars.I only gave it 4 stars because Healing Light of the Tao is more modern, covers these same exercises and expands upon them (and shows the increased wisdom of 25 more years of practice and teaching by Mantak Chia). If you only read one, I would encourage you toward Healing Light of the Tao over Awaken Healing Energy Through the Tao.

After working with the exercises for a while, it seems to have lifted my energy and... 'softened' my personality.

Any time I am settled (relaxed and centered) I can usually feel expansion in my head right away when I breathe energy up my spine.

If there is one Taoist energy exercise that everyone should know... it is the Inner Smile. This exercise will bring more joy into your life right away... I can't keep from smiling even when I'm only thinking about it.

I don't know if I'm any smarter as a result of these exercises... ;-) but I do appreciate myself for reasons other than intelligence, now.

Mantak Chia has made major contributions to the understanding/practice of Qigong/Chi Kung/Taoist Yoga for the western practitioner... and this book is one of the first. It is well worth reading for any student of Taoism, meditation, or energy work.

keep smiling,

Benjamin

5-0 out of 5 stars Microcosmic orbit
No other book offers you a complete and clearer instruction about circulating your energy through the microcosmic orbit, which is the basis of the whole chi kung sistem.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Microcosmic Orbit and More...
I found this to be a good book and one which I have referred back to many times during my energy training. The microcosmic orbit meditation alone is worth the price of the book. Awaken Healing Energy Through the Tao contains a lot of easy to understand information that anyone who is interested in working with chi or energy will find useful. While reading this book, I found many techniques which I had been taught by other martial artists over the years. Though many people teach some of the techniques which this book contains, not many understand why they are doing these techniques. This book explains in detail the reasons as well as the techniques. It is worth your time.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Practical Dao
I ve been familiar with this work for a few years, and it has been a valuable source of information on the practice of Daoist Alchemy. In fact for a while it was the only source.

Other than that, i hope that whoever becomes interested in Daoist cultivation steps on this path gradually, without grabbing. Try not to practice everything all at once. Do some "physical" chi-gong exercises, yoga, or tai jiquan, so your body gets ready, your energy distributes smoothly and gradually, and naturally aquires an understanding of the jing (ching). This is not something that happens over night, it takes time.....

Mantak Chia is a great teacher, but the book is still only a book. A competent live instructor would be a great complement.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Powerful Force in the World: Chi
Chi is the generative life force that gives us health. Mantak shows people how to develop this powerful energy flow to achieve physical, psychological, and spiritual health and balance. Chi is the most powerful healing method in the world. The Tao connects to us through Chi.

Chi is an experience that must be learned from a true master in life.
However, this book is the best guide for those without access to mentors.

I recommend Master Zhao in the Bay Area (Fremont).

1-0 out of 5 stars Not received
I would have liked to have received this item by now. I ordered it over a MONTH ago. Amazon has an awfully poor delivery service. That is my review!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Renewable Energy
An excellant resource for a closer look at Renewable Energy! The book is well written, and goes into great detail about each topic. It is a very readable book; one that a semi-educated individual could probably figure out and understand. It also has so many references you can follow for further, more detailed study of each topic.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book
It's a fantastic book! Covers all you need to know, albeit focusing a bit too much on the UK!

3-0 out of 5 stars Nice, but not good for a technical course.
This book has very nice pictures and broad overview descriptions but it does not dive into technical details of renewable energy device operation. Many of the exmaples shown are in Europe, and therefore less tangible for U.S. students. It would be a more appropriate textbook for a renewable energy survey course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction - even for after graduated engineers
This book clarifies much concepts concerning Renewable Energy. It is filled with lots of statistical and economical charts, concepts explanation, schemas and drawings about the technology.

It does not show formulas on how to dimension, but a lot of results from studies are revealed with detailed account on what was found in numbers.

Even for an engineering bachelor degree, its worth, because it covers a lot of concept from all the different kinds of Energy. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing!
I ordered the book because I wanted to see if I want to take the course he is offering.I did not get anything out of it.The book is not well written and the author has tried to hide most of the material as it asks you to visit his website and download a video and when you go there there are no videos to view. I found it incomplete and a total waste of my time and money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Leading from Your Core
This is another great business book with critical success concepts and principles set to a story.I personally believe people are wired to resonate with (and remember) stories ... not facts, figures, and other details. So this book reaches out to the part of us that is designed to remember and romances the part of us that will apply what we learned.I applaud Bruce for a thoroughly entertaining and deeply practical story that will help us all, coach or not, become better leaders ... wherever and whoever we lead.

5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible
This book takes a vastly different approach to improving your business and, as such, creates a vastly different outcome. My life, both professionally and personally, has changed dramatically thanks to "Energy Leadership."

5-0 out of 5 stars We're all leaders in life!
Bruce Schneider's Energy Leadership tells the story of a small business owner's journey to identify and then shift his own and his company's energetic resonance to a higher level using the Energetic Self Perception Chart (I Chart) with the intention of resurrecting his company's competitive demise. In desperation and as a last hope, Richard O'Connell, small business owner of O'Connell Consulting, hires leadership coach, Bruce Schneider, to partner with him on this journey. Bruce adeptly guides the initially doubtful Richard using energy leadership tools to uncover first Richard's own energy level and then the energy levels of his individual employees and overall company to discover the opportunities that lie ahead.

Richard's inner and outer work over the ensuing months enable him to move beyond his previous limitations as a leader and re-engage the potential of all but one of his employees. The collective results speak for themselves - O'Connell Consulting re-identifies itself as a business partner in the community attracting abundance along with new clients. Bruce articulately conveys the practical application of his energetic leadership principles throughout this journey of self-discovery and renewal to higher levels of personal and company performances.

2-0 out of 5 stars wordy, dull, and inferior to other books on leadership
I bought this book based on the reviews. It looked like a winner. In practice however, I found this book to be uninspiring. When I typically read self-improvement books,I take pages of notes and can instantly grasp how things apply to my life. The abstract concepts of mental attitude offered in this book I cannot relate to or envision how they apply to my challenges. In contrast, the writing of John Wooden and Stephen Covey are filled with great anecdotes, easy to grasp concepts, and they just make sense.I didn't even finish this book.Maybe the end tied it all together to offer a miraculous life-changing philosophy, but my gut tells me that there are about 20 pages of concept here, watered down to fill out a whole book.
If you are looking for leadership literature, look elsewhere. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Qualification in renewable energy
This book should be called "qualification in renewable energy". It talks how to qualify in seven fields of renewable energy:solar, wind, geothermal, hydroelectric power&marine energy, bio-energy, hydrogen energy & fuel cells and green building. It'll also refer you to college program and certificates and further-study websites/books.

However the book doesn't list the major companies in each industry/sector. But if it did, the book would be much thicker.

5-0 out of 5 stars Formula Book Well Executed,Superb But "Lite"
I read in multiples.See my reviews of 75 Green Businesses You Can Start to Make Money and Make A Difference as well as Green Intelligence: Creating Environments That Protect Human Health for the snap-shot on this round, and at Phi Beta Iota, the Public Intelligence Blogs, use the Reviews menu to access my 49 reviews on Environment (Problems) and my 57 reviews on Environment (Solutions), all with links back to the Amazon page for each book.

This is a 4 in comparison with many other books, and was disappointingly generic and "lite" in the resource sections, BUT this is BEYOND 6 STARS if you do not have a college education and wither will not get one (see chapters on Solar, Wind, and Geothermal) or are just going into college (see chapters on Bioenergy, Hydro, Buildings, and Energy Management)....so I give it a solid 5 over-all.This book is NOT for "mid-career" folks with degrees looking to switch tracks.

The book consists of seven energy specific chapters, six on "earth-based" renewable energy (solar, wind, geothermal, hydro & marine, bio, hydrogen fuel cells), one on nuclear. The seven appendices are short and ample for a first book but not at all sufficient to make this a reference book of any kind. This is basically a "Dummies Guide to Green Jobs" in *very* general terms.

Having said that, I found myself impressed by the care taken to discuss best colleges and specific college course for those who are college-bound, and to discuss certificate programs for those with a high school education and practical experience.

Another reason I went with a five over-all was because the author uses "Knowledge is Power" as a recurring theme and this I consider hugely beneficial to any reader of this book both in concept and as manifested in this book in each chapter.

Some of my notes:

SOLAR:High school plus certificates (HS+C), move now.Provides 25% of US power now, power to 1 billion people worldwide, k2.3 million full-time jobs now (and growing).

WIND:HS+C. Cheaper than solar by a large factor, lists twelve states where wind farms will be big, top three are North Dakota, Texas, and Kansas.

GEOTHERMAL:HS+C and College/Graduate Engineering.Cheapest and most promising, available everywhere on the planet.Japan, Iceland, New Zealand, Italy, Indonesia, and Canada at the forefront [for those who have not heard, Iceland just declared independence from Denmark, those 600,000 folks are going to be *very* wealthy in the future, especially if they form some kind of Northern Alliance with Eastern Russia, Alaska, and the Yukon and Northwest Territories while keeping their Denmark bridge into Europe).

HYDRO:Provides 90% of the renewable energy in the US now, but the author glosses over the fact that most of our dams are backed up and ready to break.Tidal and wave energy mentioned, but this is an especially "lite" chapter.

HYDROGEN:Twice as efficient as petroleum in producing energy in cars, five types of cells, nine difference processes. This is one way of making renweable energy portable in fuel cells.

Of the four chapters on larger specializations, the ones on Green Building and on Energy Management were best for me, the two on Green Transportation and Teaching Energy very disappointing.

BUILDINGS.I learn buildings in the USA use 39% of our energy, 12% of our water, and that Green Buildings are a 12 billion dollar a year industry and growing.

ENERGY MANAGEMENT.For a mid-career person this is the one chapter that makes the book worthwhile, the author makes the point that this field is very computationally intense and most demanding in terms of advanced education.

The appendices are very lite after the first one (Where to Study: 50 Schools), but cover web sites, online job listings, workshops, associations, and state energy offices. Then a gloassary worth reading, and an index.

Bottom line:a superb and very reasonably priced overview book for anyone who either wants to think about college as a path into the green jobs of the future, or for anyone who wants to forego college and think about business options that are just now starting to boom.In both cases I also recommend the two books above, and the following (in the case of the below, reading my summary reviews may suffice):

Biomimicry: Innovation Inspired by Nature
Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things
The Design of Business: Why Design Thinking is the Next Competitive Advantage
Ecological Economics: Principles And Applications
Green to Gold: How Smart Companies Use Environmental Strategy to Innovate, Create Value, and Build Competitive Advantage
Natural Capitalism: Creating the Next Industrial Revolution

Expertly compiled and researched, "Careers in Renewable Energy: Get a Green Energy Job" is highly recommended for environmental studies collections with a crossover to career shelves.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, grounded, and action oriented -- not a boring list of lists
If you are looking for the typical career guide that is a dry list of job titles, job descriptions, and employers that is old news the day it goes to print, this is NOT it.Careers in Renewable Energy is what students and career-changing folks will WANT and NEED and can USE to find validation and inspiration as they embark on a career solving our growing sustainability problems!

I teach an undergraduate Earth Sustainability course that gets students fired up to work toward changes in the ways we produce and consume energy globally. While it's great that they have that motivation, few know where to direct it.I've shared my copy of Careers in Renewable Energy with them, and it seems to go from student to student, never making it back to my bookshelf between!

The author provides backgrounds on each category of renewables (e.g. hydrogen, solar, wind, geothermal, hydro) as well as applications (e.g. building, transportation). From there, he talks about skill sets and courses that provide the best foundation for various areas and job functions. These roadmaps can be used to customize a curriculum that best prepares one to work in a given renewable energy field. And as we know, energy problems don't align neatly with a given university department!

Mr. McNamee presents a carefully assembled set of tools, really, to help one on a journey toward a career in renewable energy. There's information on the green universities, certifications, associations, job sites, and publications. The author takes a very holistic approach to career selection and preparation. It's not about "how can I earn the most money" but more about "how can I find a way to contribute to solving our energy crisis?"

The book is an enjoyable read, succinct yet complete. It is a must-have for anyone considering a new or different career in renewable energy...or anyone advising them! And if you weren't already considering a new career? You might after you read THIS book!Enjoy :-) ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful and upbeat
Short, upbeat, clearly written chapters, and a positive "can-do" approach to redirecting one's energy and fueling positive change with energizing activities make this a great read. The author is obviously passionate about the topic, and his humanity and generous spirit are evident throughout the book. This is the kind of paperback that's good to keep in your car or purse for a quick reminder that the power to increase energy is in the individual's hands, no matter what the circumstances. Product Description
This is quite possibly the most important book about energy in a generation. For over thirty years Americans have been fed a steady diet of half-truths, misinformation, urban legends and outright fabrications about energy. The small amount of accurate information that does reach us is often obscured by scientific terminology or one-sided political posturing.

When faced with a dramatic increase in energy demand, uncertain supplies and the potentially harmful effects of carbon emissions how are we to make informed choices?

Veteran journalist William Tucker has relied on years of research and investigation to help us
make sense of America s energy predicament without the burdens of political pressures or predetermined outcomes.

It seems odd that nuclear energy has to be reintroduced to America. After all, today, thirty years after we began construction of our last new nuclear reactor, it still supplies nearly 20 percent of our electrical energy needs. And surprisingly, all this output is from plants that were once considered relics, but are now being run with an efficiency and safety record that was hard to envision a decade ago.

Perhaps the misgivings have always been with us. Since dawn of the Atomic era, nuclear power has been inextricably associated with nuclear weapons--each reactor a bomb waiting to go off. The accident at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania and its amazing convergence of timing with the film, The China Syndrome reinforced the idea that a nuclear meltdown is a real, terrifying possibility that could kill thousands of people. The later, catastrophic disaster at Chernobyl in the Ukraine heightened these fears.

And so the use of atomic energy became controversial. Yet as Tucker makes absolutely clear, nuclear is the same process that heats the center of the earth to 7,000oF, hotter than the surface of the sun.

The concentration of power
in the nucleus of the atom is incredible. The disintegration of a single uranium atom produces 2 million times more energy than the breaking of a carbon-hydrogen atom in coal, oil, or natural gas, all with zero carbon emissions and zero greenhouse gases.

In Terrestrial Energy, Tucker is not content to merely give an argument about why nuclear is the best choice for our energy future. Instead he meticulously surveys entire the energy scene that has frustrated Americans for the past 30 years. Is there such a thing as clean coal? Can we expect that onservation will ever reduce our energy consumption?

And what about the renewable energy sources (wind, solar energy, hydropower, and biofuels) and their promise of clean, plentiful power? Each has its place in America s energy mix but each of these sources also has serious problems. The limiting factor of all these technologies will not be the amount of energy radiating from the sun but the
amount of land that will be required to capture and store it.

And what are the real dangers of an increase in the use of nuclear power? We have learned to become fearful of radiation at any dose, when in reality, we are regularly exposed to its effects, it is naturally occurring, often benign and in some cases even beneficial. Then there is the waste that supposedly makes nuclear technology unmanageable. It is much less alarming when you consider that the reason America has a nuclear waste problem is because we fail to recycle our spent fuel rods.

At the same time that world energy demand steadily increases, Americans are also being asked to be better stewards of the environment. Now is the perfect moment to renew our commitment to use the greatest scientific discovery of the 20th century as the forward-thinking solution. Terrestrial energy is without doubt, the only realistic, practical answer to our energy dilemma. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Establishes a Deep Context on the Issue of Energy
Overview: Decisions are being considered and will soon be made with respect to investments in sources of energy for our nation, including, possibly, nuclear power. These decisions, whether sound or unsound, will massively impact the quality of our lives during the next several decades and beyond."Terrestrial Energy" provides information that establishes a deep context upon the subject which supports the unique value of nuclear power as the source of energy meriting renewed investment in our country going forward.Reading "Terrestrial Energy" with care was an important forward step in my education on this great issue of our time.I believe that I am now in a far better position to comment in forums on this subject and to continue my self-education in this area.

Content: The book is logically constructed at the highest level into four parts: "The Crisis," "Fossil Fuels," "Solar and Renewables," and "Terrestrial Energy."Part One establishes the theses of the book and how they are relevant in our current situation. The final three parts review in a disciplined manner a myriad of facts relevant to the history, physics, technology, economics, politics, and management of the respective three sources of energy. In addition, there are three interludes, a prologue, an epilogue, eighteen pages of notes, a bibliography, and a detailed index. The interludes recount visits to sites relevant to the various sources of energy.Lastly, but significantly, the preface and acknowledgements are, in my view, essential to the mature reader for appreciating the caliber of the developed writing and research skills of the author and the assistance that he received from a wide spectrum of sources.

Style: Throughout, Mr. Tucker's writing style makes for a pleasant journey through the pages of reading, an attribute of a book whose value cannot be overestimated.

Recommendation: I have added this book to my personal library.I judge it to have reference value.I highly recommend it to potential readers with an interest in the topic.

Other five-star reviews:I have read all the reviews posted as of the end of August 2010 and concur with the many well deserved superlatives invoked in praise of "Terrestrial Energy."While I have offered my own version above, Sharon B. Holcombe's excellent review is my favorite.I have a special liking for Herbert W. Whitney's as well, which is my second choice.Jon Boone's lengthy review is polished, weighty, and makes for a rewarding read by an especially well-informed commentator.I am especially grateful for his summary of the shortcomings of solar and wind energy.William H. Young provides feedback from a player in the global politics of nuclear power.

Four-star reviews: Peter J. Weggeman's review, which surprisingly in not five-star, is informative, concise, and accurately conveys Tucker's insightful analysis. Peter J. MacLaren's remark about the book lacking adequate proofreading reflects my thinking.I am pleased to learn that we are in agreement on that observation. However, unlike Mr. MacLaren, I perceived no problem with respect to self-consistency.F. Riaz correctly takes exception to Jimmy Carter being referred to as a "nuclear engineer" and to a sentence in which Mr. Tucker refers to Wigner, a physicist destined to win the Nobel Prize, as being a colleague of Albert Einstein at Princeton in 1939.However, the responding comment by M. H. to Mr. Riaz's review, in my opinion, adequately addresses these two criticisms.

Web sites: I would like to see more attention paid to the book's Web site, [...]. I intend to post comments pertaining to specific passages in several chapters, but as I write this (August 28, 2010), I am unable to successfully register for participation in the site's forum.I hope that flaw will be remedied by the end of September 2010.In addition, Mr. Tucker has informed me that he is now writing for Nuclear Townhall [...]).

4-0 out of 5 stars Good read - a useful perspective
William Tucker provides an excellent walk through the energy issues the US are facing, and clearly makes the case for the importance of nuclear power in the mix. Much of the book is focussed on dealing with all the myths and negative hype around nuclear, and providing the context for its importance in a world with significantly growing energy needs, and the related growing concern about CO2 emissions.

I would classify the approach as documentary, not scholarly. No obvious flaws in the facts presented, but it's not a definitive approach. For example the same data are presented in different chapters with slightly different numbers. So while they are rounded approximations, it would be nice if they were consistent! Also the book has more than its fair share of typos - nothing dramatic. So overall it gives the appearance of a book rushed into publication, and not thoroughly proof read.

I recommend it as it is an easy read, and more people need to understand the facts and the myths on this topic.Nuclear power has been condemned by the fanatical few in such an effective way that many people believe the hype, as they rarely get presented through the media with the facts.

Personally, it continues to astound me that the same fanatics that are hounding an industry with an amazing safety record (despite some scary incidents), don't get worked up about the coal fired power stations that provide 50% of the power in the US.That's where the pollution, CO2 and health & safety issues really are! It's not a surprise that France, with 80% of its power coming from nuclear, has among the best air quality of any developed country. Read the book to learn more!

5-0 out of 5 stars A good read for conservatives and Libertarians
I thought this was an interesting and engaging book. I highly recommend it for anyone...especially conservatives and Libertarians who are interested in real energy solutions.

I do, however, have to disagree with the author re: his blind acceptance of CO2 cap & trade schemes. The Waxman-Markey bill has nothing to do with energy or CO2 reduction (it doesn't even really lower emissions!), only Progressive redistribution of wealth, social engineering, control, etc... It's an energy tax.

5-0 out of 5 stars Objective, fact-based evaluation of our current energy options
Mr. Tucker offers a review of the energy options available to the US and meticulously reviews the pros and cons of each option. The net is that with 0 emissions, nuclear is our best means toward reducing CO2 and delivering a REALISTIC energy roadmap for America. We can't conserve our way to energy independence. Solar, wind and hydro will not get us there.

For those people who are truly looking for a realistic alternative, this book provides the empirical evidence on why nuclear is safe (yes safe), cost-effective and clean.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reads like a Novel but Presents Clear Facts

Terrestrial Energy is a very nice read for those wanting a clear and concise synopsis of the energy dilemma facing the U.S.It addresses the facts and concerns of man-made global warming (AGW) as well as I've seen in a short space, and presents very well the safety record of the nuclear industry post Three Mile Island and Chernobyl. This book doesn't completely dismiss alternative energy sources, but does shine a light on their shortcomings and high cost.Distributed generation is the new buzz word for environmentalist, but as presented in this book California didn't fare so well in this endeavor, nor should the U.S. with the push to go primarily to wind/solar to reduce CO2 emissions. Nuclear power should get a spot at the table, but first people have to become educated by reading books such as Terrestrial Energy.

There are several books out that try to address the U.S. dilemma of a secure energy policy while addressing the concerns of AGW.Unfortunately many of these books concentrate on the AGW portion and do a poor job of describing the need of base load electrical power needed to maintain a vibrant economy and standard of living expected by U.S. citizens. Electric cars have to get their electricity from somewhere, and most citizens don't want to take cold showers and read by candles at night. Many of these other books are poorly written with lots of facts and figures on solar and wind that are difficult to put into context with true cost, environmental impact, and the intermittent energy supply they provide for base load and peak electrical power currently provided primarily by coal and natural gas. These other books also fail to emphasize that wind and solar currently have to be backed up primarily by coal and gas because they are intermittent. Many of these other books also bash a U.S. nuclear program without the context of debateful facts, and what the rest of the world is safely accomplishing by recycling spent fuel rods for reuse as new fuel and medical isotopes versus burial at sites like Yucca Mountain, which will remain a political football for years to come as dictated by a misdirected U.S. policy, i.e nuclear weapon proliferation stemming from U.S. nuclear plant spent fuel rods.

Product Description
Change is hard. Beliefs, thoughts and behaviors often continue as if they have a life of their own, and trying and talking--despite the best intentions--often don't seem to help. Many people spend years in psychotherapy without making a dent in their issues, but now a growing body of doctors, nurses, psychologists, and social workers are discovering that there are remarkable new techniques that, by correcting the flow of electromagnetic energy in the body with simple touching and breathing exercises, actually resolve longstanding psychological issues.

The authors of The Energy of Belief, Sheila Sidney Bender, a psychologist, and Mary T. Sise, a clinical social worker, wanted to help their patients take back control of their lives from unwanted beliefs, thoughts, feelings, and actions. They call their breakthrough method energy-TAB, or "touch and breathe." In this self-help book, Bender and Sise describe their method and lay out a series of simple exercises that allow people in distress to quickly feel major physical and psychological shifts. Their book is packed with real-life examples of clients who were not helped by other forms of therapy, but who used energy-TAB to free themselves of fears, addictions, and runaway emotions. Additionally, the book includes solid science, a step-by-step method for replacing any negative belief with a positive one, simple strategies for performance enhancement, dozens of illustrations, real-life case histories, and easy-to-follow instructions for using this exciting new method. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Remove your energetic blockages now! Your beliefs can change.

Bender and Sise combine the physiology and psychology of healing using simple, helpful techniques. These techniques will help the novice who is just stepping into bio energetics, as well as practitioners of EFT, TFT, acupuncture, massage and light work. Holistic care embraces energy healing and sees it as growing form of therapy. Why wait for western medicine when you can be taught techniques and applications that help.An increased number of professionals are now seeing the value of energy work. Self help is a billion dollar industry. More psychologists are embracing the natural healing powers of the body and the mind. This book gives you concrete ways to heal many issues. If compulsive thoughts consume you, this is a good book to start with. We sometimes don't realize what a "funk" we are in until we look from outside in. this book uses an energy method called "TAB." Touch and breathe--it is that simple. The chapters introduce how thoughts get trapped in our mind field. It acquaints you with how TAB helps. The authors do a great job of giving you step by step instructions with photos as a guide to help rid yourself of negativity and compulsions that are holding you back. I enjoyed that they discussed the impact of core beliefs and how you can have healthier beliefs. It is possible to create the life you want. Energy follows thought!
Creating inner peace and harmony is only the start for allowing the world to heal, one person at a time.
These authors have vision, and compassion to teach and share, and easily communicate ways to help you polish your self awareness. The self awareness test discusses safety, deservedness, blocking beliefs, unknowing beliefs as well as relationships with all of theses.
This book bridges the gap between the ambiguity of energy work and science. It allows you to create positive intentions by releasing those thoughts that hold you back. Intuition is the art of knowing- a concept many people are unsure of. The authors show you how to achieve this.
The book is filled with case stories, techniques, and concepts you will enjoy learning about and using. It will help advance your self help awareness if you are already experienced in this, by creating more focus. Lots of good ideas here. I enjoyed it.
I received a complimentary review copy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Touch and Breathe and Transform
This beautiful book first clearly and gently guides the reader to understand the principles that determine our emotional state. But then it launches the reader into the next step--actually changing the negative beliefs that limit our lives with a powerful tool from the new field of Energy Psychology called the "Touch and Breathe" method.Developed by Dr. John Diepold Jr., this powerful technique combines mindfulness meditation-based practice with touching points on the meridians of energy that flow through the body for "emotional acupressure."Case examples show the profound and long-lasting upward shifts in functioning that come from applying these simple principles.Step-by-step instructions and photos of models demonstrating the procedures guide the reader to be able to access information from their own energy system--a kind of "reading one's own computer."Then the reader is guided through a self-help process to reprogram one's system for emotional health and wellness. This book is a gem!

Invisible Roots: How Healing Past Life Trauma Can Liberate Your Present

5-0 out of 5 stars A Life Changing Health and Wellness Tool
In "The Energy of Belief", Sheila Bender and Mary Sise present a thorough education on what beliefs can do to you, what they can do for you and how they can often work against you. They also teach an easily learned body-energy based method "Touch and Breathe" (TAB). Practicing this method as the easy-to-understand instructions detail, will release negative beliefs and with them, completely change your life. I know, this technique is one I practice and teach myself. I was very impressed by both the research as well as the straight talking explanations and extra tips and hints that made all the difference in artful use of TAB for personal issues. I recommend this book for those who are keen to dump problems, stress and overload. You couldn't have better teachers than these two authors, who are outstanding guides in what for most will be new, though exciting, territory. Buy this book today and start living the life you've always dreamed. When you have control of your beliefs, anything is possible!

4-0 out of 5 stars This is an excellent book that delivers on the promise in its title
Sheila Sidney Bender & Mary T. Sise, The Energy of Belief: Psychology's Power Tools to Focus Intention and Release Blocking Beliefs, Fulton, CA: Energy Psychology Press 2007.

This is an excellent book that delivers on the promise in its title, presenting clearly and convincingly the tools and methods that can identify and transform beliefs that block one's progress and satisfaction in life. Sheila Bender and Mary Sise have a very readable style that engages the reader's interest as it explains biological energy fields, blocking beliefs and how to deal with them.

Helpful nuggets that stand out include:

·Energy field perturbations (well known in the numerous therapy traditions as signs of problems), as well as elaters and harmonizers (positive aspects of energy fields);

·Energy field reversals (again, well known in the Energy Psychology) and energetic belief reversals that can block progress;

·Self-testing for energetic belief blocks.

The scripts and diagrams for using the Touch and Breathe method, supplemented with richly illustrated case examples provide a clear understanding of how to apply these methods. This book is warmly recommended to those who are seeking methods for self-healing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Vital information for self healing
This is the book I have been waiting for - a well written, comprehensive, yet simple, guide to a profound energy psychology technique - Touch And Breathe (TAB). It is the first book I now recommend to those patients who understand how vital it is to take true ownership of their healing. In the early chapters, Sheila Sidney Bender and Mary Sise impart to the reader their deep knowledge of the essential components of TAB:"the meridian gateway, mindfulness, touch, breath, intention and intuition." From then on, they give clear and practical advice on how best to apply this profound healing approach to a wide variety of common debilitating conditions whose roots so often lie within conditioned, false negative beliefs.
Reading this book, and applying its heart-felt advice to our lives, is a truly rewarding experience. I am honored that it has been published as a companion to my own book The Human Antenna: Reading the Language of the Universe in the Songs of Our Cells ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Healing perspective from Bon Master
Although it's difficult to understand the nature of mind, This book worth to be read by all Vajrayana practitioner to broaden their perspective toward Bon teachings.

5-0 out of 5 stars very nice
The amount and quality of information in this book is staggering. There is something to be said for a tradition that goes back for many centuries, a tradition that has combined a sophisticated 'energetic technology' with an established ecclesiastic hierarchy that weeds out charlatans and pretenders. Although Native Americans, Lapps etc have similar 'technologies'you will be lucky to get 5% of the info described here from an NDN - first, he doesn't want to talk about the stuff ('too sacred') and second, he doesn;thave a language for it. Tibetans, on the other hand, have developed a vocabulary (much of it sourcing from Abhidarmic texts) that clearly, precisely and unambiguously delineates various types of mental/physiological/psychical etc states and can be used to navigate tricky transpersonal domains as well as to develop greater, more effective and satisfying life. In other words, the Tibetans have developed a solid, unified, empirically tested container with appropriate safeguards.

The book starts by describing the properties of the 5 elements and their relationship to the human psyche.TWR goes on to describe breathing and visualization exercises designed to embody particular elements and their relationship to energetic channels & chakras. Analysis of different types of elemental spirits. Very helpful depictions of working with natural forces, tantric deities, protectors and dzogchen practices. These blend together, seamlessly. Techniques on taking in, holding and releasing tension. Methods to release every negative experience into a more spacious, embodied experience. These techniques are not in the service of self; getting rid of personal suffering is simply an expedient way towards serving all beings, to helping with the awakening of the Universe.

It is rare to find a book on shamanism that is so concise, informative and selfless. Recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the Shamanic at Heart
If you have a shamanistic bent this book is jam packed with the kind of useful information that usually requires an apprenticeship to acquire. It is one of the three most practical books I've encountered. If you play around with the practices and hints in this book you will experience amazing wonders in a very short time.Through two practices in particular you might even recognize the basis of your mind or be visited by deities.Don't think for one more minute, just buy the book and do the practices for the ride of your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Learn To Think Like A Tibetan
Forgive me if I respond first to the review below that said "watch out! This isn't Buddhism!"What that person doesn't know is Tenzin Rinpoche's books are usually prefaced by the Dalai Lama--that's how accepted this is as a legitimate spiritual pathway. This isn't like western religions where diversity means you have to burn somebody at the stake.Everybody is openly accepted for what of value they can offer and Bon has a very alive dzogchen transmission that is second to none.Sorry for this digression.

Anyway, what I liked about his book--other than the fact that Tenzin Wangyal is tops in the Tibetan community in his ability to communicate clearly with westerners (you'll be amazed)is the fact that this book is kind of a lesson in how Tibetans think--which is not required certainly, but if you are studying Tibetan spirituality and are really serious it's something you will find helpful.

LIke his book on Dream Yoga it is extremely readable and is something you can digest with no forehead massaging.I have met Tenzin Wangyal and he is a really good person and nice guy and I always remember in the sleepy period after lunch him chuckling looking out at the sleepy group and saying, "It's earth-element time."

This is a painless way to fill in a gap in your attempts to understand the culture and spirituality of Tibet.

5-0 out of 5 stars good reference book
If you have a basic understanding of other five element practices, this book is a great resource to round out understanding from the Tibetan Bon teaching. It also covers what in TCM are the Jing, Qi and Shen levels of the Bon approach.Very clearly and openly.I thoroughly enjoyed the author's writing style and felt the generousity of spirit in his writing. But remember that information does not make a practice, only a practice makes a practice. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Tesla was actually just a human after all
So much has been written about Nikola Tesla that seems to build him up to near a god like person, when really he was just a human after all. Very smart, yes, but just a human like you and me. This short book written in Teslas own words give an insight to his thinking as to practical matters that we are still dealing with today. Even though this was written over 100 years ago, much of this book could have written today and still make sense. See what Tesla was thinking and what he was really trying to do. Every time you turn on a light switch in your home, thank Nikola Tesla as he made the transmission of AC current the standard that the world uses today.
Yes it is true that Nikola Tesla lost his focus and was found in his later years to be talking to Pigeons on a window ledge as they became his best friends rather than dealing with people, but this was written before this happened. Anyway I found The Problem of Increasing Human Energy by Nikola Tesla to be interesting reading and I think you will too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Our world today, seen from the past
In this book Tesla explores the various means by which we can and must increase our energy. He also foreshadows many modern technologies such as a means to communicate with anyone around the globe instantly (the internet), and many of the green technologies we see today. Throughout the book Tesla makes stunning predictions that reveal his unique insights into what the future would (and has) become. He also outlines solutions to some of our modern problems such as overpopulation by increasing energy.

It is a very unique book from a very intelligent scientist and I would highly recommend this book for everyone.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wikipedia Has Great Information on Tesla
Tesla is so willing to share in this artical.Wikipedia is a great sorce for learning more about Tesla and links to help you understand main topics Tesla was expermenting with. I am looking for fiction books that tap into Tesla life, you know any?Alex_Stevens@sbcglobal.net

4-0 out of 5 stars Solving a Problem With No Easy Solution
This book offers a great insight into the mind of one of the geniuses of all time.Tesla converts how we reach enlightenment (increasing human energy) into a mathematical equation and shows how we can achieve that end.

He discusses how to end war, or the wasteful use of human energy, a negative force, to how to obtain positive energy cheaply, to energy transmission throughout the planet.Like most of the ancient philosophers, he was both a man of science and a man of religion and spiritualism.

The only downside to the book is that he refers to drawings of some of his experiments, but there are none in the book.It would have been nice to see these, no matter what the quality.

It is short, 80 pages, and an easy, worthwhile read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Classic
Every student of science ond philosophy should read this book. It should be added to the Harvard Classics "five foot shelf". Many may realize that Tesla was the most underappreciated scientific genius of his era, but all too few understand that he was also an underappreciated genius of human philosophy. ... Read more

Product Description

Energy transitions are fundamental processes behind the evolution of human societies: they both drive and are driven by technical, economic, and social changes. In a bold and provocative argument, Energy Transitions: History, Requirements, Prospects describes the history of modern society's dependence on fossil fuels and the prospects for the transition to a nonfossil world. Vaclav Smil, who has published more on various aspects of energy than any working scientist, makes it clear that this transition will not be accomplished easily, and that it cannot be accomplished within the timetables established by the Obama administration.

The book begins with a survey of the basic properties of modern energy systems. It then offers detailed explanations of universal patterns of energy transitions, the peculiarities of changing energy use in the world's leading economies, and the coming shifts from fossil fuels to renewable conversions. Specific cases of these transitions are analyzed for eight of the world's leading energy consumers. The author closes with perspectives on the nature and pace of the coming energy transition to renewable conversions.

Product Description
Energy Free is designed to equip building professionals and homeowners alike with a toolkit for creating homes that use no more energy than they produce—this means homes that are free from the vagaries of energy-price fluctuations and that help to free society of the high political and environmental costs of fossil fuels.

Individuals and institutions have been working toward "zero-energy" homes for decades. This volume is the first record of those collective efforts, distilling their experience into a practical and comprehensive how-to guide. The author includes resource information and step-by-step guidance on how to make decisions that will yield an energy-free residential project, whether a single-family home or multifamily building, new or existing, in an urban or a rural setting. The unique needs and opportunities of each context are addressed.

The principal topics include:
  • Project boundaries (why you have to consider not only your home's behavior, but also your own)
  • Prioritizing strategies (e.g., insulation vs. photovoltaics)
  • Economics (including payback periods and incentives)
  • How to minimize a building's energy needs
  • How to minimize your energy needs
  • How to power the energy needs that remain
  • The critical role of integrated project planning
Energy Free offers a wide array of resource information, including detailed window and insulation comparisons; assessments of the relative contribution of different building elements; and overall performance. It draws on research and empirical data from myriad sources, including the Department of Energy's Building America program; Sacramento Municipal Utility District's House of the Future; Passiv Haus Institute in Europe and the Passive House Institute of the U.S.; Florida Solar Energy Center; Living Building Challenge; Affordable Comfort, Inc.'s, Thousand Home Challenge; and many pioneering individual home projects across North America.

What a great book! Finally someone has made it possible to systematically think about understanding the parameters for designing and building an efficient energy making home in our current economy. Now I understand what I am looking at when I see the choices made by others in designing their energy efficient home. This book contains a treasure trove of references for someone to seek out more information or make contact with the people involved in improving homes in our country. This book is a must read for people serious about designing their dream home. Thanks Ann V. Edminster!

5-0 out of 5 stars Energy Free Homes For A Small Planet
An excellent book. In fact, one of the best available resources for designing a net-zero energy house.
It is clearly laid out, filled with wisdom, and practical tips.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informed, distilling research into practice
Ms. Edminster has written a wonderful book, which clearly spells out the design and performance decisions required while carving a path towards a zero-energy home. This information is simply not available elsewhere. For those unwilling to pour through numerous case studies, DOE national lab publication pages, and the Building America research reports, read this book!It distills and synthesizes the valuable content of cutting edge home performance research, making it accessible and useful to the design and construction community. There are no universal or easy answers on a zero-energy project. Those projects that ultimately meet their design goals, require great effort in terms of design, analysis and construction quality control.Accordingly, Energy Free does not attempt to provide boiler plate answers that treat every site, homeowner and climate zone as identical.Ms. Edminster's discussion of the topic is nuanced and informed by research and experience.I found it to be a great read, which summarized all the knowledge that I had sought over several years searching through obscure websites and conference proceedings.

I'm an architect experienced with zero energy building design, and I'm currently working on a house with a new client. They kept referring to things they learned in this book, so I got a copy to see for myself what they were reading.I've found it to be accessible for an intelligent client, without glossing over the technical issues and details. It provides extensive references (most available instantly and free online) to authoritative resources if you want to dig deep into a specific issue. It includes a broad range of topics from how to select an architect, to cost and finance options, to detailed discussions about numerous technical issues (which is where I've used it the most).I've found it to be completely up to date, drawing on the top experts in the field today. 5-0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading!
This book is the best value out there. Because it explains in simple, easy to understand terms the most essential aspects that every person who lives in a dwelling should know about the way our choices about energy affect our homes. With so much emphasis on energy saving and global warming these days, this book is a great reference for the average homeowner. Written in simple terms with easy-to-understand graphics, anyone can easily understand the causes of heat loss and cold air infiltration, and the solutions. Bruce Harley shows once again why he's one of the foremost experts in building science and energy conservation in America.

5-0 out of 5 stars A superb guidebook from an obviously expert guide

I own about a dozen DIY books on weatherproofing/weathersealing, interior air quality (IAQ), humidity, moisture, and so forth.Harley's "Insulate and Weatherize" was my hands-down favorite purchase in that category. The writing and photos and diagrams were all intelligent and precise, and Harley's knowledge is several notches above the other authors'. He foresaw issues and problems that our top local HVAC consultant was clueless about. Priceless.

"Cut Your Energy" is like his earlier book in all those ways, but with a different emphasis. There is overlap with the earlier book when it comes to things like hunting-and-destroying air leaks, but most of "Cut Your Energy" is new material. I'd already read a lot in this area, so I knew maybe 45% of the stuff in Cut Your Energy. But the other 55% was worth its weight in gold.

This is an oversize book with tons of detailed text, photos, diagrams, lists of resources and contact info, appendices, and -- our favorite -- "energy-saving" myths. [One example: We had assumed that we should seal off the HVAC vents in unused bedrooms and closets to save energy. Not always true, per Harley.]

Unless you're an expert already, I think this is the book to get.
