Extractions: Ph.D. - University of Texas Medical Branch (1977) Speciality Marine Cave Biology, Coral Reef Ecology, and Diving Research. Biodiversity, ecology, biogeography and evolution of marine cave fauna; conservation biology and endangered species; health assessment of coral reef ecosystems; technical scientific diving including cave, nitrox and trimix diving. Research Interests: My primary area of research involves investigations of the composition, origins, evolution, biogeography and conservation of animals inhabiting marine caves. This habitat, accessible only through use of specialized cave diving technology, rivals that of the deep sea thermal vents for numbers of new taxa and scientific importance. I have led research expeditions for studies of the biology of marine and freshwater caves to the Bahamas, Belize, Mexico, Jamaica, Canary Islands, Iceland, Mallorca, Romania, Czechoslovakia, Galapagos, Hawaii, Guam, Palau, Tahiti, Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga, Western Samoa, Fiji, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, New Zealand, Australia, Philippines, China and Thailand; in addition to 9 years of studies on Bermuda's marine caves. My present research focuses on investigations of the biology of caves in the Bahamas and the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico.
