Product Description
This book is the third volume of collected essays by Ramsey Dukes. The second volume (Blast Your Way To Megabuck$ With MY SECRET Sex Power Formula and other reflections upon the spiritual path) was published by Revelations 23 in 1993, and the first volume (Uncle Ramsey’s BUMPER Book of Magick Spells and other essays on science and magic) may be published at some future date - the first shall be last because its content was generated before the author had a computer and so it still has to be keyed in. The essays in it are also even more dated and embarrassing.

This volume contains all the essays and shorter pieces written since his book "Words Made Flesh", ie since about 1986. As a collection set in approximate chronological sequence, it has no deliberate theme or structure other than its reflection of the author’s concerns during these years. Bearing this in mind, however, a definite thread can be detected: it is an exploration of humanity’s demons and the right way to relate to them. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars What to do in your holidays
I can't remember when I last laughed out loud reading a book. Especially a book about... what is it about?

Magic ? Yes, because we can all use some magic in our lives - in fact, we are doing so without noticing it. Ever read adverts ?, watch T.V.? support a good cause ? You're doing magic. Dukes can help!

Philosophy ? Yes, because Dukes has thought deeply and curiously about the way things are, the way they work - or don't. Whatever you think, you'll find something new to think about in these essays. (You have been warned)

Psychology ? Dukes would disavow himself as a psychologist, but his efforts to understand why he thinks and does - and fails to do-are some of the 'laugh out loud' bits. And the wisest. I have an image of being led down byways by Dukes' self-deprecating tales, chuckling as I went, only to find it was a cul-de-sac. And a mirror instead of a way out.

Artificial Intelligence; What women really want; His Most Divine Holiness Sri Baba Rebop; Frank Sinatra's place in the witches' sabbath; Sir Roger Penrose's in consciousness studies; Passion Homes; Naughty things to do in New Age workshops; Virtual Reality. It's all here and more besides.

He did it in his holidays. Give yourself a treat and read it in yours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Both witty, and interesting. Highly recommended.
This is a definate must for all practitioners of the occult. But don't take my word for it, read it for yourselves. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Preface:
Anton Szandor La Vey is the "pastor" of the First Satanic Church in San Francisco, and devil worship is being practiced actively throughout the western world. Does a real, personal devil actually exist? If so, where did he come from, what is he like, and how does he operate?

The late Bishop James A. Pike, grieving over the suicide death of his son Jim, observed strange occurrences in his Cambridge apartment which led him to think that his son was seeking to communicate with him. He attended a number of seances in which Jim allegedly spoke to him. Can the spirits of the dead send signals to the living? Are mediums able to establish contact with the souls of those who have gone to the "other side"? What really happens in a seance?

Mrs. Jeane Dixon is considered a prophetess by many people, and top leaders in government and industry consult her for information about the future. Does she really receive messages from God through tarot cards, the crystal ball, or astrological readings? What about astrology? Is it reliable? Is it a harmless pastime? Or is it a practice Christians must avoid?

Sybil Leek calls herself a witch, and believes she is able to contact and utilize powers from the invisible realm. She has gained an international reputation, and says that over eight million people in the world are witches. What about witchcraft? Is it merely a game some people play? Is it beneficial to humanity? Or is it evil and dangerous?

Universities are offering courses in occultism, and teams of scientists are investigating reports of mysterious magical phenomena all over the globe. They are baffled by some of the amazing incidents they encounter, and admit that present scientific knowledge cannot account for them. What should be the Christian's attitude toward magic?

In this book a sincere effort is made to give Biblical answers to questions like these. The first three chapters are a study of the explicit teaching of the Bible about Satan, evil spirits, and their battle strategy. The remaining portion consists of a report and analysis of current occultism in the light of the Scriptures.

It has been impossible for me to investigates the large amount of available information on this subject, so I assigned full responsibility of the last three chapters to Herbert Vander Lugt, Research Editor of the Radio Bible Class.

The Word of God may not provide a specific explanation for every problem one may encounter as he studies Satan, Satanism, and witchcraft, but it sheds much light on these subjects and offers practical guidelines by which God's children can avoid the dangers inherent in occultism.

This volume therefore is sent out with the prayer that it may instruct and help many people in these days of unrest, confusion and fear.

Editorial Review

Product Description
'Satanism and Witchcraft' (originally La Sorciere) is a book by Jules Michelet on the history of witchcraft, published, originally in French, in 1862. According to Michelet, medieval witchcraft was an act of popular rebellion against the oppression of feudalism and the Roman Catholic Church. This rebellion took the form of a secret religion inspired by paganism and fairy beliefs, organized by ? who became its leader. The participants in the secret religion met regularly at the witches' sabbath and the Black Mass. Michelet's account is openly sympathetic to the sufferings of peasants and women in the Middle Ages.

According to Michelet, in a note added to the end of the book:

The object of my book was purely to give, not a history of Sorcery, but a simple and impressive formula of the Sorceress's way of life, which my learned predecessors darken by the very elaboration of their scientific methods and the excess of detail. My strong point is to start, not from the devil, from an empty conception, but from a living reality, the Sorceress, a warm, breathing reality, rich in results and possibilities. (Michelet, p. 326)

The first part of the book is an imaginative reconstruction of the experience of a series of witches who lead the religion from its original form of social protest into decadence. The second part is a series of episodes in the European witch trials. Today the book is regarded as being largely inaccurate, but still notable for being one of the first sympathetic histories of witchcraft, and as such it may have had an indirect influence on Wicca.

In the early 1970's, La Sorciere became the basis for the anime film, Kanashimi no Belladonna by Mushi Production. (Quote from wikipedia.org)

Chapters: Theistic Satanism. Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 230. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: Theistic Satanism, also known as Traditional Satanism, Spiritual Satanism, Devil Worship and originally just Satanism, is a form of Satanism with the primary belief that Satan is an actual deity or force worthy of reverence or worship. Other characteristics of Theistic Satanism may include a belief in magic, which is manipulated through ritual, although that is not a defining criterion, and theistic Satanists may focus solely on devotion. Unlike LaVeyan Satanism, which was founded by Anton LaVey in the 1960s, Theistic Satanism is theistic as opposed to atheistic, believing that Satan (the Hebrew word for Adversary) is a real being, as opposed to purely a symbol of individualism. The history of Theistic Satanism, and assessments of its reality or prevalence in history, is obscured by it having been grounds for execution at some times in the past, and due to individuals having been accused of it who possibly did not consider themselves to worship Satan, such as in the Witch trials in Early Modern Europe. The worship of Satan was a frequent charge against those charged in the Witch trials in Early Modern Europe, or other witch-hunts such as the Salem witch trials. Worship of Satan was claimed to take place at the witches' sabbat. The charge of Satan worship has also been made against groups or individuals regarded with suspicion, such as the Knights Templar, or minority religions. It is unknown how much accusations of groups worshiping Satan in the time of the witch trials were accurate, and how much they were a result of religious superstition or mass hysteria, or charges made against individuals suffering from mental illness. Confessions are unreliable, as they were obtained under to...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=4144550 ... Read more
