1-0 out of 5 stars STUDY BIBLE: The New Student Bible - NRSV
I am VERY disappointed in the poor, shabby condition of the book I received after being assured the book would arrive in "VERY GOOD condition.I feel I was seriously ripped off by having been sent THE HOLY BIBLE with a torn cover, dog-eared pages, underlining, folded pages, etc.
Although I have corresponded with AMAZON as well as with the bookseller who sent the Bible, expressing my deep dissatisfaction with their product, I have received neither a response from either of them -- nor any satisfaction.Customer Service appears to be non-existent; customer satisfaction a foreign concept to these mega-corporations.
I want only was I paid for -- a copy of this edition which is, truly, in "VERY GOOD" condition.
I will think TWICE before purchasing another used book via AMAZON and its partner links.
AMEN

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Study Bible for Youth and Adults
I found this study Bible after much searching and reviewing various study Bibles.I finally chose this Bible for my teenager and we have both been pleased. This Bible offers an overview of the history of various Bible translations, as well as an overview of Bible content and organization. Each book of the Bible begins with easy to read summaries, followed by the actual text of the Bible. In addition, there are annotations throughout the text to help today's current reader understand contextual information related to the history and culture in which the Bible was originally written. It appears to have an objective approach, which makes it of value to people with a range of personal beliefs. In addition, the summaries and annotations are visually appealing, set apart in blue boxes, and are written in an intelligent and informative manner that can be understood without a seminary degree. This Bible is apparently available in NRSV and NIV.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Bible for Bible Study Class
Have used this Bible for our adult Bible study class and found it to be an excellent read and resource. The side bar notes and commentaries are very helpful in understand context, place in time and other uinformation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Study Bible
This is a great student Bible. I'm a Sunday School teacher for middle- and high-school age youth, and the kids really enjoy using it. The Subject Guide in the back is comprehensive and usable. Within the texts are 'post-its' giving context to particular passages. There are Up Close discussions as well, that pose life questions that are great discussion starters. There is considerable material included to make the Bible relevant to today's student, and not just a collection of stories. How many Bibles have a reference to CS Lewis?

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Bible Ever!
I have not been able to put this Bible down ever since I came across the paperback version a few weeks ago at a used book store! The introduction to each book of the Bible and the notes throughout help you gain a better understanding about what you are reading. I plan on ordering a hardback version for both my husband and I since we teach Sunday school. If I can find this version in large print, I will order one for my mother too.I would highly recommend this version not only to new readers of the Bible, but to anybody who is serious about learning the Bible. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This Bible is Amazing
I would recommend this bible to anyone learning to read and study the Bible. My two kids each got one when they began 5th grade catechism (about 10 years old) and they use them a lot more than I would have expected. This Bible has more information in it than just Bible stories, it has maps and explanations and more.....HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Tool for Young Folk!
I am a Lutheran Sunday School teacher - grades 3rd thru 4th.Our Sunday School department ordered copies of this Bible to give to our younger students. This particular Bible is excellent for the young learner. The print is large enough for them to be able to follow and it is chock full of other pertinent information (FYI's).It contains the traditional NIV content. Our hope and plan is that the students will want to carry this Bible with them as they grow older as well. Not too "kiddish" yet "cool" enough for a teenager.

Throughout the Bible fire symbolizes God's presence, power, and works: during the Exodus God led the Israelites by day in a pillar of fire, while at Pentecost tongues of flame rested upon the heads of believers filled with the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, this divine fire is intended to kindle within us a passion for God and for doing his will. The FireBible's notes and commentary will show readers how the spiritual empowerment that began at Pentecost is available today, and is a gift to modern followers of Christ. 5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST study Bible yet produced!
I have a collection of study Bibles. And just got this one. It is hands down the best study Bible I have ever seen. Besides the very extensive and excellent study notes, and the readable Bible text, the very best part about this Bible are the fabulous and lengthy articles. There are articles that I have not seen in any other Bible, but that are very much needed if one is to experience, and help, others to live in the fullness of a Christian life. For example, there is an article about Divine Healing, and how this was not just for people back in Biblical times, but how you can be healed by Jesus of physical, mental, and spiritual diseases today. Another article is excellent about recieving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I also love the icons that point out at a glance which passages have to do with special topics.

So if I had to pick ONE Bible, this would hands-down be it! I have never been Pentecostal, but if you read closely the New Testement, it is obvious that Jesus intended Christians to demonstrate the true power of God by Healing the Sick, Preaching the Word, casting out demons, and that he sent his Holy Spirit to aid us in carrying out God's work by being able to keep in close contact with God's will. I have experienced divine healing by laying on of hands myself- what a horrible tragedy that this did not continue to be taught in most denominations of the church. This Bible can help get Christians back on the right path. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Bible I use in Seminary studies
There are a lot of Bibles out there for folks to buy right now, almost as many Bibles as stars in the sky, to use a coined phrase.I have used several different Bibles in the past, but this one is a favorite of mine and one that I recommend to those I know who are looking for Bibles for themselves or others. The reason for that is simple, I like John MacArthur and his style of Bible exploration. He has some very good books out there, not just on Bible prophecy, but on examining and exploring the Christian life. The Bible fits perfectly in a bookbag or a shoulder bag (I use a shoulder bag, which usually has several other books I am studying at that moment). It is not cumbersome or heavy. The translation itself is NKJV which I myself like out of all the translations out there (I'm a bit of a Bible snob, I must admit, due to some errors found in Bibles like the NIV translation or due to dumbed down grammar as found in Bibles like the Message). And while this isn't a Study Bible with deep notes at the bottom half of the page, instead he has sprinkled notes throughout the pages, you still gain a pretty good idea as to the messages found in the particular portion of the Bible you may be reading. All in all, this is an awesome Bible that I highly suggest to anyone who wishes to learn about God's truth and love and grace and holiness.I also highly recommend you check out other books by MacArthur!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic study Bible
My daughter is eleven-years-old, and learning more and more about God. We are reading Little Pilgrim's Progress by Helen Taylor together, and I realized that it is now time for her to have her own Bible. A beloved aunt of mine gave me my first Bible, a bare bones KJV, and I treasure it to this day. But, over the years I was sometimes envious of others' wonderful study Bibles. So, I decided that the Bible I give my daughter would be the best study Bible I can find, one that she can use for her entire life. Well, this is it!

This Bible is the New King James Version, plus a whole lot more. It begins with an introduction to the Bible, chapters on how we got the Bible, how to study the Bible, and a preface to the NKJV. The Old and New Testaments each have a highly informative introduction, and each book of the Bible begins with an introduction that covers Author and Date, Background and Setting, Historical and Theological Themes, and an outline of the book. As if that weren't enough, the book is crammed full of notes, sidebars and references. Plus, the finale of this Bible is a topical index (even better than a concordance in my opinion), and eight color maps!

Whoo! As I hope the above description tells you, this is a fantastic study Bible. It has everything a studious Christian of any age could want. As I hope that my daughter will use this book for many years to come, I went with the hardbound edition. The binding appears good to me, and I think that it is well worth the extra few dollars.

I am very happy with this purchase, and I highly recommend this Bible to everyone!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent for All Ages
The word "Student" in the title may lead people to think this is a study Bible for youngsters. Not so!A young person of college age or even high-school age would love it, but so will people in their sixties (cest moi)!It is the one study Bible that is not loaded with 85 percent commentary and 15 percent Bible. It tells you just what you want to know and lets you get on with your reading. The informative longer notes appear only occasionally, and they are complete on one page. The short notes appear in shaded areas and are very valuable. For example, the short note with Luke 22:44 explains Christ's sweating great drops of blood with an excellent explanation of the medical phenomenon known as "hematidrosis."The absence of red-letter type is a relief--too many Bibles now are printed with the red-letter feature. One no longer has a choice, and the red ink is often badly applied or more pink than red and hard to read.MacArthur's Student Bible is easy to live with--very legible large type, but not overlarge, and plenty of white space. The introductions to each book of the Bible are very well done too. This is a gem! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool!
This is a great tool for young people to learn how to share the gospel of our Lord & Savior with others.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sharing the Gospel
If you have a heart to share the gospel of Christ, leading others to a full knowledge of the Savior, then you will probably love this small Bible. It's slim and easy to carry everywhere. In the front of the Bible are some guidelines for sharing. There's a section at the back with suggestions as how and where to write scripture references that help direct you to the next scripture when leading another to Christ. You can either use the author's verses, or create your own. There's also a section at the back with possible answers you could give for difficult questions people may ask.

All in all, I love the way the author suggests in approaching people--in a non-confrontational way. You ask a few questions to find out where they are spiritually, then listen. When able to go to the scriptures, just sit back and let God's powerful Word do the work. It's God's work anyway, not ours. Ours is to obey and tell others!

5-0 out of 5 stars Bible literacy is important
I will preface this by stating I am a Christian by choice not birth. Just a disclaimer not a boast. I knew quite a bit of the Bible and it's history prior to getting this book. That said, I am very impressed with it. In some places it has reinforced historical facts I've known and given tidbits between the facts to fill out my historical knowledge. It does so in a way that does not push 'religion' on the reader but does politely point out what some religious minded people (both Jewish and Christian) think about some Biblical issues. I say 'some' because for a book to include 'all' would be too large to handle.

Well done I say. Schippe and Stetson really did their homework.

Education and society (I can speak about the U.S. at least) has ignored the Bible to it's literary detriment. Many Biblical quotes, for example, are lost on people that don't know the source and the background of the quote. With a bit of Biblical teaching, which this book provides, substance is added not only to classics but contemporary writings. With knowledge of the Bible people can more readily enjoy literature.

Another plus to reading this book is that politicians often quote or even more often misquote the Bible. Biblical literacy can help one decide whether a political candidate or elected official is talking from his heart or through his posterior.

I heartily recommend this book to both those knowledgeable of the Bible and the novice. Quite a good, entertaining and educational read.

3-0 out of 5 stars Poor Construction of the Book
This is a great book as a beginning understand of the Bible and its influence. But, the company that contructed the book did an extremely poor job.We sold many copies and have them come in by the case. The binding is really poor and they simply fall apart after a little use. Too bad they spent time creating the book, only to downsize its value for a long keeping book.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too fancy for a Textbook
The material is well presented, photos and text are excellent. It seems to me that the book should not have been presented as a coffee table book - over size and slick paper - but rather as a standard textbook. Could that change reduced the price?

3-0 out of 5 stars The Bible and Its Influence
This text would be much improved if each chapter would describe what the purpose of the chapter was. This text should be able to stand on its own without the instructor intervention and it doesn't. I found that for this text to be successful much prereading, concurent reading of other sources was needed or a strong foundation in Bible knowlege already present. It was difficult for me who is a Masters prepared.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible and Its Influence
I have only had this book a couple of weeks, but it is truly wonderful.
We are using it in our Sunday School class and I am using it along with my own personal Bible reading. It is truly a great resource, I would encourage anyone that wants to know more about the Bible to get this book.
Thanks for having it available.God bless you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars From the Back Cover
Believing the fundamental Christian claim that the purpose of the Bible is to present the Savior, Geisler focuses on Christ as the unity and unfolding message of the whole of Scripture.Christ is the tie between the Testaments, the content of the canon, and the unifying theme within each book of the Bible.

This book is basic to both Bible study and preaching and serves as an excellent guide to the Bible's central theme. It encompasses far more than a study of types and the Old Testament prophecies. Each chapter takes seriously the affirmation of Jesus:"Everything written about me in the law of Moses and the prophets and the psalms must be fulfilled" (Luke 24:44).

Related to Geisler's central thrust -- that Christ is the clue to the whole Bible -- is the clear assertion concerning the inspiration of Scripture and the deity of Christ.Chapter topics include:(1)Christ Is the Key to the Bible; (2)Christ in the Old Testament; (3) Christ in Both Testaments; (4)Christ in Every Section of the Bible; (5)Christ in Each Book of the Bible; (6)The Word of God; Personal and Propositional. Also included are a bibliography, subject index, and Scripture index.

4-0 out of 5 stars Basic
This book is a basic, look at Jesus as the central theme of the bible. It give Scriptures that shows Jesus, quoting from the book of Isaiah. showing that there was only one Isaiah, not two as Bible critics say. Jesus call Danial a prophet, Bible critics, say his prophecies were just historical writings, because he wrote them after the fact. it shows the themes of different book. This is a good book for new students of the Bible.

The reason I only gave it 4 stars, is it seem to be repetitious at times. But over all, it's a good book for Bible students looking for an introduction to the over all theme and unity of the Bible. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome!
This bible is colorcoded by topic and it is si helpful for young people who are exploring it more in depth for the first time!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Bible
Great Bible for any ADHD person or someone who is a visual learner. The whole bible has color-coded pages. Every verse is colored with a soft pastel color that makes for SUPER EASY READING. Aside from that the colors do have a meaning, for example, all light purple sections refer to God, light yellow passages refer to Family. Gray is the color of passages that refer to sin (lol fitting!). Imprimatur by Cardinal Keeler.
