Extractions: The ELCIC has joined with other denominations and organizations in the Decade to Overcome Violence, 2001-2010. The World Council of Churches invites Christians to join a Lenten Fast from Violence. During Lent, many Christians undertake three spiritual disciplines: Prayer, Fasting and Charitable Giving. You are invited to enter into this special season with a focus on the growing violence in our world and the need for peace and reconciliation Fast from violence. Choose a fast that has meaning for you and your community. Abstain from ways in which we consume and support violence. Pray the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi daily during Lent. This prayer offers the possibility for all people to open themselves to becoming instruments of peace. Give to efforts that address the causes and consequences of violence and that support peace and reconciliation. Consider volunteering to help with peace projects in your church and community.
