The Canadian Free church is a partner with more than 1200 Evangelical Free churches in the United States , and is an active participant among 28 members of the International Federation of Free Evangelical Churches worldwide. Evangelical refers to the commitment to the authority of Scripture as being inerrant in the original autographs and the only safe and sufficient guide to faith and practice. Free is a term that historically has designated a church as being free from the control of the state. Today, since no church in North America is state sanctioned or controlled, it has come to signify congregational church government, and the autonomy of the local church with regard to the purchase of property, calling of pastors, setting budgets, etc. This autonomy creates a healthy environment for Inter-dependent fellowship and cooperation in missions, church planting, education, camping, publications and other ministries.

Armando And Odila Padovan Begin New Ministry In Canada PI has partnered with the evangelical free church of canada to support ArmandoPadovan and his wife Odila as they arrive in Canada from Brazil. http://www.partnersinternational.ca/newsletter/articles/armando.htm
Extractions: Within hours of arrival, you become aware of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) as a multi-ethnic metropolis. People from over 169 nations speaking at least 100 languages crowd the streets. The Toronto Star has predicted this year visible minorities will make up 52% of the new mega-city of Toronto. The nations are now coming to Canada. Church Planting Canada recently stated that during the last 12 years immigration to Canada averaged 227,000 people a year. With the anticipated loosening of immigration rules, that number should increase to 400,000 per year with 50% locating in the GTA and the wider area known as the Golden Horseshoe. With the new millennium comes a new strategy for Partners International (PI): sponsoring a Portuguese-speaking national in the GTA to plant a Portuguese-language church. PI has partnered with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada to support Armando Padovan and his wife Odila as they arrive in Canada from Brazil. This strategy maintains the essential core value of PInationals reaching nationals. The Padovans worked in the Brazilian Couples Encounter Ministries in partnership with PI in the city of Curitiba. In 18 years this ministry served 40,000 people, brought 4,000 to faith in Christ, and started seven churches. Recently they worked with two churches in Brazil preparing them to become cell-celebration churches. In this type of church, the cell, consisting of 12-15 people, is the core ministry. The cell focuses on worship, Bible study, prayer, and training in lifestyle evangelism. The cell leader and other mature Christians disciple new converts within the cell and train them for leadership. When the cell reaches about 15 people the newly-trained leader takes a portion of the cell members and starts another one. Hence, the church grows through cellular multiplication. The Sunday worship service then becomes a time of celebrating what God has done in the cells during the week.
