Product Description

In 1997, Dr. Richard Bartlett experienced an event that would redirect the entire course of his life.

He suddenly discovered that by lightly touching his clients while at the same time applying focused intent, he could restore them to a physically, mentally, and spiritually balanced state, instantly shifting misalignments that had plagued them for years. Most astonishing of all, he could teach anyone how to do this. Now, for millions of people looking for empowerment in an age of declining and impersonal healthcare, Dr. Bartlett shares this phenomenon in a book full of explosive potential.

In Matrix Energetics, Dr. Bartlett builds upon his popular seminars to teach us how to access the discovery he has made -- a process that merges the science of subtle energy with our innate imaginations to produce measurable results. By applying forces known to modern physics, each of us can tap into states of healthy awareness from different moments -- in essence, travel in time -- and bring them into the present for immediate, profound results. As Dr. Bartlett clearly shows, this practice requires no special training, produces transformation in the blink of an eye, and is available to everyone who has a willingness to learn.

Matrix Energetics, The Science and Art of Transformation, provides an easily-reproducible, results-oriented process of change that draws on the fundamental principles embraced by the field of quantum physics. This paradigm-busting book can teach anyone how to access their creative power to heal and transform their lives. Dr. Richard Bartlett discovered that what he once thought about the human body was just the tip of the iceberg -- after seeing change beneath his hands, and hearing about the invisible transformations that were often revealed later -- he knew that he had to pass along what he had discovered. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting reading
Thankfully I had been introduced to Matrix previously. A little confusing with the physics for me, but the way the author writes, that doesnt matter. Very down to earth and has humor sprinkled throughout. I am looking into going to a Matrix seminar now!

Very quick delivery and the book was in excellent condition. I will definetely be using you again. Thank you

5-0 out of 5 stars I was skeptical, but it worked!
I read Matrix Energetics and then went to the author's, Dr. Bartlett's, seminar. At the seminar my logical mind was very skeptical, but I tried the techniques, and eventually achieved some surprising results. Some people get immediate results, while others it may take awhile. For me, I think the latter was true, and for two reasons: 1. I had to get out of my mental, logical side temporarily so that I could 2. Operate from my loving, heart center energy. (One's loving energy is where the true power for transformation and miracles is.)

I've since read his other book, "The Physics of Miracles" and also listened to his CD's and they bring together information from so many different metaphysical and scientific fields - bringing spirituality and science together.

I met one gentleman who gave up when he didn't get immediate results.I look at it more like an artist - Not everyone paints a masterpiece on the first try - and although a lot of people DO get results immediately, I would encourage people not to give up if they don't, because it took me awhile to overcome my own mental blocks. However, the biggest help for me was setting aside judgement, and operating from a loving energy, with an openess to possibilities.

5-0 out of 5 stars The information in this book is ground-breaking to some, off the wall to others, and completely AWE-some to me!
Check out this book!I am going to the seminar in Boston on Aug. 6th.WoW! Soooo excited and I am ready to make life happen for me!Just read it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Recommended reading, but read critically
This book started off really well. It reminded me quite a bit of "The Holographic Universe" that I read way back when and loved. Sometimes the author's logic seemed flaky, but I really appreciated the reminder (and in some cases update) of physics research, parallels with religious experiences, and general implications in life.

About 2/3 through the book though, the style, the theme, the general feeling of the book changed. Now I find myself cringing at his writing, including his own personal reflections. For example, where I am right now in the reading, our geologist cum computer engineer and martial arts student author is talking about mirrors in life - how events in your life and your perceptions of it will of course tell you a lot about your character. To me this is common sense, but I do understand that he is asking us to look a bit deeper.

Right now he's talking about a time in his life where he decided to put a lot of trust in a few people in his life, despite that they were not getting along very well at all. When he returned from a business trip and found his banks accounts drained by one of them and himself in the red for checks bouncing that he had paid to contractors to renovate 100+ year old adobe dwellings on his property, he at first got angry, but then decided to do nothing about it. He says that instead, he asked what mirrors he was currently looking at and decided Life was showing him the mirror of his own Judgements. He saw that he judged dishonesty (lying and stealing), and decided the time had come to heal himself. Learning that he had a strong criminal case and could probably press charges and get this person thrown in jail, he instead decided he didn't care enough about this person to have a continuing relationship (his words).

This is an example. I of course don't know the details of the situation, but what he's provided in the writing paints a very strange picture of at least decision-making ability, if not character itself.

What do I get out of this? Well, there's the immediate mirror - I myself in my eagerness to believe got caught up in the spiritual/life implications of what he was reading, and began to let my criticism go, began to get a bit naive. Oh, and then the judgement mirror - people in the position of those such as Mr. Braden have a lot of responsibility, and I get critical when I believe they are giving such flimsy information and teachings, due to either insufficient experience/research or just simply not thinking clearly.

Back to the beginning, however: The first 1/2 to 2/3 of this book is good. It's not that heavy if you're familiar with the topic, and his writing style is very loose. Regardless, I do recommend this. Just read critically.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Divine Matrix
This book arrived quickly and in much better condition than I expected. There were only two marks inside the book.I am reading a lot of Gregg Braden's work right now.He is getting very close to the Real Deal. He's just missing a few key things.I admire his research abilities - they are phenomenal.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Divine Matrix revisted
I was a little disappointed by his latest book; Nothing new for me and much less inspiring than his earlier work.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential read
In this exciting book Gregg Braden discusses the field of energy providing the container "for everything that happens between the world within us and the one outside our bodies".

Braden compares the divine matrix to the software that runs a computer. But our "software" is our feelings and we can use our feelings, the language of emotion, to create our reality.

One of his "keys" (of which he has 20) is that we are always connected to each other, the individual also always being connected to his/her DNA even though it has been removed from the body.

Gregg Braden refers to varous experiments illustrating his tenets. He also describes an operation he witnessed in Beijing, where a tumour in the body of a woam was "miraculously" removed within a few minutes by the power of thought.

Among other subjects, he discussed the nature of time (the healing of the past from the present), refers repeatedly to my favourite author Neville (feel that your wish is fulfilled and it will be) and devotes a whole chapter to the discussion of how everyone appearing in one's life constitutes a projection of one's own personality and problems, i.e. are sent to mirror our own selves back to us so we better can perceive what it is we need to work on in order to better ourselves. He illustrates this by means of examples from his own life.

This is a book that I feel is an essential read for anyone at all interested in metaphysics and the nature and possibilities of our own selves!

1-0 out of 5 stars A misrepresentation of quantum mechanics
I started reading through this book, recently given to me as a gift, but was unable to get very far. As a physicist, the scientific claims put forth by the author are views of a fringe in the scientific field at best, and outright misrepresentations at worst. As an example, take the discussion on page 21, discussing the existence of the aether. Gregg Braden claims that a "report" was published in Nature, suggesting the existence of the aether. However, if one actually looks up the reference quoted in the back of the book, ([...]) the "report" is in fact a LETTER to the editor (thus not peer reviewed), and does not seem (to me) to make any of the sweeping claims that Braden attributes to it. The existence of an aether seems central to the author's argument of a "Divine Matrix." Thus, the implied claim of scientific support for the "Divine Matrix" seems like an outright misrepresentation.

I suppose the point of this review is simply to emphasize that there is little actual science to be learned about in this book. If your goal is to actually learn something about the science of quantum mechanics, or physics for that matter, look elsewhere. (I find Richard Feynman's books, such as QED, to be accessible and informative for example.) Quantum mechanics is certainly an interesting subject, and does have deep philosophical implications. However, such misrepresentations of what the study of quantum mechanics has actually discovered, and the rather interesting questions about the nature of reality that it certainly does pose, does not only a disservice to the reader, but the scientific community as a whole. One of the goals of the scientific community surely is communication of its discoveries to the public (which funds it!), and the dissemination of such pseudoscience by non-scientists such as Gregg Braden is detrimental to that goal. ... Product Description
Science has spent centuries trying to define the laws of the universe. But in this modern era of breakthroughs and quantum physics, what have we finally learned? "It turns out that the laws of the universe are just waiting for us to break them,"explains Richard Bartlett. With The Matrix Energetics Experience, this extraordinary teacher invites you to learn the art of rewriting any rule of your reality--about your health, your happiness, or even your understanding of what is physically possible.

What is Matrix Energetics? Born from a set of potent energetic treatments that Bartlett discovered in his chiropractic practice, Matrix Energetics has evolved into a "technology of consciousness" for insight, healing, spiritual growth--and living a life unbound by the limits we have been trained to believe in. "Once you learn to catch the wave of Matrix Energetics, it can become whatever you let it," Bartlett explains. "Some of my students have developed abilities I've never dreamed of having."

As quantum physics implies, we live in a universe made of consciousness and light, where what we think of as "real" can shift as quickly as our minds let it. Now Richard Bartlett takes you on a freewheeling, playful, and possibility-expanding journey that will shatter your preconceptions about the seemingly "solid" universe we live in--and how unlimited your potential to change it truly is. If you are ready to embrace a reality where anything goes, miracles happen, and nothing is beyond your reach, then you are ready for The Matrix Energetics Experience.A Multi-Format Experience of Matrix Energetics

  • Six audio sessions of Richard Bartlett's Matrix Energetics workshop--an unforgettable tour de force of wisdom, science, humor, and the art of transforming your life in the blink of an eye
  • An 87-page workbook featuring the Two-Point Technique for healing and discovery, the 21 Fundamental Frequencies of the universe, and exercises for breaking down your subconscious limitations

5-0 out of 5 stars Witness a Miracle!

While Richard Bartlett might appear to be a wild crazy man at first glance, he is an extremely well-read scholar with a brilliant mind and a servant of humanity dedicated to bringing healing to the human species.

I went to his trainings to experience his work first-hand, and it was phenomenal!Bartlett uses humor a lot, and the six CDs of his lectures in this packet will make you laugh your socks off while Bartlett shows you a whole new way of looking at reality. One of his methods that I use the most in my practice of energy psychotherapy is the 21 frequencies that govern healing in the human species, given to him by his guides. This packet has a card for each frequency, and they are explained on CD six.The frequencies mesh nicely into the work that I already do to support the healing process for my clients.

This packet's DVD of Bartlett working is amazing. He is a chiropractor and a naturopathic doctor. One of the Matrix Energetics frequencies, Number 4, is for physical restructuring.I called it in for myself to adjust a hip misalignment and found it absolutely works. It felt as if invisible hands were adjusting my body.I tried it with clients, and it has worked for them too, producing results that feel miraculous. On the DVD you can see these "invisible hands" of frequency four adjusting the pelvis of a woman, without him even touching her body.Want to witness a miracle?Get the Matrix Energetics Experience home study packet!

1-0 out of 5 stars disappointed, over the long term
The original book was not very good at explaining the practical steps of this seemingly amazing process; this set of 6 CDs explaining why and how is better and includes a DVD showing various people collapsing - apparently the typical initial response! - as the method is applied, a workbook offering exercises to develop the skills, plus cards of the 21 frequencies (not mentioned in the book). The book was exciting but confusing to read and even listening to the CDs several times still left me confused.

I gave this set to a cousin in July 2009; she immediately enrolled in a workshop and then for the next 6 months traveled all over the US to repeat the various workshops, costing her thousands of dollars, including the travel. Money that she could ill afford, as a widow working in a school. I understand many, many people were doing the same. My cousin remarked that people mostly achieved very small, step by step, improvements over repeated sessions. She was passionate about this process but I cannot say, more than a year later, that I have noticed any measurable changes in her nor has she reported anything remarkable.

Words cannot express the depths of my regret, given that I had felt that it was probably the most amazing healing process I had ever come across. To put this statement in context, in the last five years alone I have read about many, many processes for healing: numerous books on nutritional healing, natural remedies, crystal healing, sound healing, light/color/sun/earth healings, shamanic healing, dream healing, meditation, yoga, books on breathing, positive thinking healing including "The Intention Experiment", many other books such as "Conscious Healing, "Miracle Mineral Supplement" - MMS (did not work for anyone I know) & MMS2 (worked for some, but not others), "Instant Healing", "The Secret of Quantum Living", anything on water by Emoto, "The Healing Power of the Past", "Trauma Release", "The Healing Code", "Quantum Touch", "Matrix Energetics", and not least many different types of emotional healing, including "The Ultramind Solution", EmoTrance, "The Emotion Code" and EFT (dozens of EFT books, including a very sophisticated version in the "Matrix Reimprinting" book). I'm not even going to start listing the numerous happiness/gratitude books I've read or the endless spiritual books, tapes, CDs and DVDs including (and this is just a partial list) those by Walsch, Marciniak, King, Villoldo, Millman, Clow, Rasha, Osho, Aurobindo, Braden, Hicks, Long, Carey/Zoosh, Carroll, Hubbard, Perkins, Kybalion, Hall, Hawkins (David, not Stephen), de Mello, Redfield, Tolle, Renard and A Course in Miracles.

Have I read thousands of claims of amazing successes? Yes. Have I met many practitioners who thought they did wonderful work? Also, yes. Have I personally seen, or even known anyone claim, a miraculous healing? No.

The key to working with long-term illness and serious disease is persistence and patience. In over 3 decades of researching, training, and consulting professionals on hundreds (yes, truly) of alternative therapies, I have seen small but long-term benefits only from body adjustments (Rolfing & Reflexology but not chiropractic), from acupuncture and other Chinese Traditional Medicine, from natural thyroid (but not the synthetic version), from one Herbal Master (but not any other "expert" in herbal medicine), from a few homeopaths, from 2 psychics specializing in psychic attack/spirit attachment-or-possession/soul retrieval, and from a few of Stewart Swerdlow's processes.

Nowadays, before entering into trainings and courses I am thinking of taking, I make sure to pay for three sessions with a teacher or expert in the process. If I do not see measurable benefits, I do not enroll. I haven't enrolled in anything in the last 3 years.

As far as I know, every one who is ardently, and long-term, following a healing path has similar stories of mainly disappointment and a very few small successes. And no one is sorrier than I am to have to write this. My time, money and alternating hope&despair have added up to paying a high price to reach this sad conclusion. Yet I go on seeking: because even now I believe there is nothing better than healing (at all levels) that I could invest in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loving this kit!
I took this class a while back and felt like I wasn't quite getting it. . . This kit is really helping me to have a better understanding of these amazing principles. I highly recommend this.

5-0 out of 5 stars Freeing Your Mind
My wife and I have attended four Matrix Energetics seminars beginning in 2009 in San Diego. We will be attending our fifth this October in San Francisco, the newly-created level 4, "Journey Toward Self-Mastery". The material presented in The Matrix Energetics Experience Kit is richer and more specifically detailed than the content of our first levels 1 & 2 seminar over a year ago. This is not to say that the kit is equivalent to physical attendance at a seminar. The direct experience of the seminar creates a non-ordinary field of energy that is difficult to describe to anyone who has not had the experience. That said, the kit does go a long way toward recreating that non-ordinary state for those already familiar with it. Watching the DVD included in the kit captures the essence of the seminar experience, and Richard Bartlett's commentaries on what is shown are clearer and more detailed than what he is able to communicate in the excitement and hilarity of the actual seminar where anything is likely to happen and logical continuity is fleeting. After all, the main purpose of Matrix Energetics is to liberate your mind from the domination of the left hemisphere of the brain. Yet coherent instruction is the aim of the ME Experience kit. Learning some of the basics of quantum physics theory takes left-brain comprehension in the service of letting go of linear, conceptual thinking altogether in the long run. It's a matter of starting with what you know and are able to build on in order to establish trust in not knowing anything. Paradoxical, yes, but in practice absolutely compelling.
Also included in the kit are six CDs on which Bartlett discusses a number of topic such as "Our Perceptual Bias and Newtonian Delusion", "Intuition and the Right Brain's Parallel Processing", "A Persistently Held Illusion Called Reality", and the like, all delivered in Bartlett's inimitable stand-up comic style punctuated with bursts of spontaneous silliness. There is a workbook which provides exercises for altering your right-brain perceptual bias, and two sets of cards, one showing Matrix contemplative topics such as "When you are confused, you are learning something. If you're amused, it often means you're learning something. Remember that the 'a-ha' moment has a 'ha' attached to it."The second set of cards lists 21 universal energy frequencies that can be applied to a variety of purposes and describes the qualities of each.
The kit provides a very good introductory experience to Matrix Energetics and is an energy booster for those who have already attended the seminars. Bartlett is doing something profoundly weird when seen from conventional perspectives, but if you can allow for the weirdness, you will be stunned by the actual positive results of what he has discovered.

5-0 out of 5 stars Cutting Edge Technique!
Karl and Sasha have written a definitive text sharing the mechanics of their new technique, Matrix Reimprinting, the science behind it, the EFT in it, and case studies. That having been said, still, it is an understatement though not for any lack in the book or the body of work. (The technique is so simple, any EFT practitioner can master it.)

What is so profound is the potential in this technique. Because Matrix Reimprinting embraces the cutting edge work of Bruce Lipton and quantum physics not as theories, but as absolute Realities and is launched from those solid platforms, it blows the lid off all linear thinking and practice about dis-ease, healing, and what has created and holds the beliefs and limitations that lock them into our current versions of "reality". It allows one to enter into time and space and information as they really are - non-linear, non-locational. Entering that zone, with this technique, one can re-imprint the original transcript shifting everything on all levels.

Be prepared for change; invite it, welcome it, allow it. Matrix Reimprinting is the tip of the iceberg of an energetic healing modality accessible to everyone regardless of age, gender, nationality. MatrixReimprinting is energetic healing that has been waiting to happen for too long; it offers everything we are ready for and knew all along.

Bravo to Karl and Sasha and thanks for bringing this into the light.

5-0 out of 5 stars Change the way you perceive and experience EVERYTHING
Highly recommended!

Karl and Sasha have written a fascinating, easy-to read book. If you want a technique for gently releasing yourself from thought and behavior patterns that no longer serve you, this book is for you.

I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting Karl Dawson during one of his seminars and of working with Sasha Allenby by phone. Both are the among the most authentic, humble, and joyful people I've ever met. They generously share their own stories throughout the book.

My two favorite things about "Matrix Reimprinting Using EFT:Rewrite Your Past, Transform Your Future:"

1 -- Easy explanations of difficult concepts, such as understanding the effects of early trauma on shaping our lives

2 -- Transcripts of Matrix sessions which give a good feel of how a Matrix Reimprinting Session proceeds.

What is Matrix Reimprinting?

Matrix Reimprinting is a new meridian tapping technique developed by EFT Master Karl Dawson.Like EFT, Matrix Reimprinting often resolves long-standing emotional and physical issues.
By changing how you perceive old events and how ingrained ideas shape your words and actions.

During a Matrix Reimprinting session, you tap on points that have been used in acupuncture for thousands of years. Most of the points used are at the ends of meridians.

Meridians are channels for energy flow just as blood vessels and arteries are channels for blood flow.Emotional, chemical and physical trauma can disrupt the flow of energy in the meridians. When the energy is obstructed, disease may result.

You can correct the flow of energy by stimulating the meridian points. In EFT and Matrix Reimprinting, you do this by tapping on them.

How is Matrix Reimprinting different from EFT?

In conventional EFT, tapping on meridian end points is used to take the emotional intensity out of a past memory. When an issue is resolved with EFT, you are able to recall your most traumatic and stressful life memories without any emotional disruption or stress. This is a useful healing strategy since most disease results from stress.

When an issue is resolved using Matrix Reimprinting, the memories associated with it are actually transformed.

During the Matrix session, you step into a memory. There, you may say and do what you wished you had said and done. You will be shown how to bring in people or tools to support you in any way that you need. You will recreate the recorded picture in your memory.

This will transform your reflexive reactions in situations that were triggering an unwanted response.

In Matrix work, you never deny that an event occurred. We do not use distraction techniques. In fact, the Matrix model recognizes that the best way to transform a situation is to be fully present in it.You will not relive the situation.Matrix Reimprinting is a very gentle technique.

I bought this book, half expecting that it would be a re hash of someone elses experiences and ideas, but suprise surprise, it is fresh and relevant. My congratulations to the authors, and I cant wait to get into matrix reimprinting. ... Read more

David Icke is a jealous sicko who trier to drag down everyone with him... He thought and always think he's the son of god, a messager. He's money/brain stealer. He's affiliated with anti-semist (Against Jew, because most of them have high position in world hierarchy) groups and doesn't worth a dam look to his books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Dungeons & Dragons Conspiracy.
Persecutory Delusional people, like people who are stoned or very drunk, tend to write the most imaginitive works of science fiction & fantasy, but it wasn't entirely original.

It reminded me highly of chapter 3 of the Neverwinter Nights video game that came out a year after this book was first published. NWN uses the Lizardfolk's smarter ancestors from Dungeons & Dragons, which is older than this book, but instead of having Bipedal Sarruks out in the open enslaving humans as an inferior race in medieval times, it has them hiding amongst us, pulling the strings from behind costumes in various time settings.

So I guess if you really enjoyed this book, you should try playing Neverwinter Nights too.

Product Description
Organization structures do not fail, says Jay Galbraith, but management fails at implementing them correctly. This is why, he explains, the idea that the matrix does not work still exists today, even among people who should know better. But the matrix has become a necessary form of organization in today's business environment. Companies now know that if they have multiple product lines, do business in multiple countries, and serve many customer segments through a variety of channels, there is no way they can avoid some kind of a matrix structure and the question most are asking is "How do we learn how to operate the matrix effectively?" In Designing Matrix Organizations That Actually Work, Galbraith answers this and other questions as he shows how to make a matrix work effectively. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A THOUGHTFUL, INSIGHTFUL BOOK DEMYSTIFYING MATRIX ORGANIZATION
Galbraith has written a highly accessible, thoughtful and insightful book on an important that is highly complicated. Matrix organization, writes Galbraith, has gone from a popular management concept to a much-criticized concept and now is becoming part of the normal management's toolkit. Galbraith attributes its failures to poorly managed or unmanaged change processes. In the 1970s and early 80's it was imposed on organizations from the top down. As a consequence there was, as you would expect, resistance to this major organizational design change.

With this background, Galbraith embarks on an in-depth explanation of what a matrix organization should be and, most importantly, how it needs to be developed and implemented so that it can be functionally effective. He notes that the book's aim is to address the challenge to get a matrix organization to work effectively He also notes there is an increasing number of situations in which matrix will be the organization of choice as repetitive work gets automated or outsourced leaving professional work--work appropriate for a matrix design.

The book is based on the authors' forty years of studying and consulting with matrix organizations. He has worked with companies in a wide spectrum of industries and in countries around the world. He uses cases to illustrate his points and follows the Star Model that he developed. This framework for the design of organization brings together strategy, structure, processes, rewards, and people and gives this book a solid foundation for achieving comprehensive design and alignment.

The author takes the reader from the definition of matrix organizations to the simple two-dimensional matrix and beyond to variations of the matrix theme.

Galbraith rigorously addresses more complex topics, including: the design issues when a matrix exists at several levels; tools for balancing power between the two sides of the matrix; and responsibility charts for clearly defining roles.

Part two tackles the more complex matrix of the three-dimensional design, including the front-back model and a full chapter on IBM's version of this model.

Part three delves into the many facets of a comprehensive organization design including planning and coordination processes, reward systems, and HR practices of successful companies. Advice on leader's behaviors, communication practices, approaches to managing the change process, and a list of sixteen capabilities companies need for effectively implementing change, are all meaningfully covered.

Galbraith closes with five personal stories on the uses and abuses of the matrix concept.

As a consultant in organization, we found this book to be loaded with valuable content. It demystifies a complex subject and makes numerous points about organization design and change that are often marginalized or totally overlooked. This book is a winner! Highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of current thinking on Matrix Oganizations
Provides an insightful & comprehensive overview of the many instantiations of matrix organizations in modern business.Covers several effective matrix structures, from simple through complex, and why each is appropriate.Emphasizes practical applications and desired effects.Fact and experienced based discussion of each type of structure.Very useful and interesting.Much better than most business organization guides.

5-0 out of 5 stars Tells it as it is!
This is a book that goes back to the basics and tells it as it is. We've all worked under matrix under some guise: cross-functional teams, multi-product organisation, networked organisation, multi-product organisation, spaghetti organisation . . . whatever you want to call it.It's still matrix.Let's call a spade a spade; that's what Dr. Galbraith does. He does not pretend that matrix is there to solve all strategic problems; it's there to execute the strategies that are handed down. DEC made a strategic misstep, but it is unfair to blame that on their choice of matrix as an organisational structure.

Never have I seen a more comprehensive and honest analysis of the history of matrix and explanation of the multiple forms thereof.Dr. Galbraith's books are required reading in many MBA programs, and this is another example of why that is; it conveys the deep theoretical knowledge of the subject while giving practical, case-based examples that illustrate the benefits of the subject matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Matrix Revisited
Finally, a book that peers inside the "black box" of the matrix organization and examines it from every possible angle.Dr Jay Galbraith, one of the most prolific writers on organization design of our time, provides us with a comprehensive, practical and easy to understand explanation of the matrix in all its forms.Even if you have read all of his other books, or know nothing about organization design, this one is a must-have, because it is a kind of foundation book that helps us further understand his other writings.

The implementation of the matrix has long frustrated leaders, employees and organization designers because of its infamous "two-boss" requirement, which has bogged down decision-making and work flow. With Galbraith's objective and research-based style, there is no defending of the matrix, nor bias against the matrix. There is simply a deep and practical examination of how it works in real life and what it takes to make it work.

The author starts with "Matrix 101 by helping to define it.The Matrix "arises" from business strategies that "require (a company) to be simultaneously excellent" in two or three, sometimes four "conflicting things."Examples are global and local (e.g. function X geography) or function, geography, and brand. The matrix design enables businesses to compete on an "and-and" basis rather than an "either-or" basis. He helps us see how the competitiveness of our virtual, global markets requires this simultaneous excellence in multiple areas, while enabling customers to choose and even design what they buy.

Galbraith discusses the matrix as requiring attention to "balance of power" if it is to be successful. In order to be competitive innovators of new leading products, for example, the power of the "R&D" and "marketing" functions of the matrix must be balanced so that the best ideas and design of both are brought to marketThis makes sense.

Galbraith describes several variations on the matrix, depending on the strategic and practical needs of a business:simple matrix, the "two hatted" matrix, the "baton-pass" matrix, complex matrix forms such as three and four dimensional matrix. These are not theoretical constructs made up by the author, these are actual forms that exist in our aerospace, pharmaceutical and manufacturing industries. His descriptions help us see the logic of these forms and how they evolved in specific industries as these industries grew (notable is his treatment of pharmaceutical R&D).

Time and again the author grounds us in the relationship between the organization and its environment - market, regulatory and cultural. This "dance" requires businesses to mirror the complexity of their markets. They also need to be flexible and continually evolve in order to compete. According to this book, the matrix is here to stay, and all large global organizations use them in some way.By telling the story of long-lived businesses like IBM, ABB, Walmart, Nestle, Proctor & Gamble, that have continued to succeed (as markets allow) he helps us "get" that a successful matrix organization is not static, that it morphs over time.

How can we make matrix organizations work? The answer lies in the systemic approach to organization design that looks beyond structure to the tight interdependency of all major components of organizational life: strategy, structure, processes, rewards, and, of course, people.Galbraith's version of the organizational system is represented by his own "Star Model," now used by hundreds of organization designers around the globe

Galbraith illustrates the importance of each of these components to the success of the matrix with detailed examples for communication, planning and coordination, talent management and reward systems. He warns us that matrix leaders need a special (conflicting!) skill set, and devotes a chapter to the design and implementation of the top leadership teams of matrix organizations. Look for Chapter 15, which lists the design capabilities that matrix organizations need to succeed, incorporating all five components of the Star Model. This list is immensely helpful to the organization designer. After reading this book, I had hoped I would find working with the matrix a little less challenging. No such luck. But at least now I Know what I am dealing with.

Designing Matrix Organizations That Actually Work is probably Galbraith's most personally written book in both tone and content. It is written much the way the way the author speaks, and includes his personal perspectives on "spin" about the matrix, as well as the uses and abuses of the matrix by organizationalconsultants.Jay Galbraith's insistence on balanced scholarship provides us with an unvarnished and highly practical examination of the matrix and gives the reader a chance to judge for oneself.

2-0 out of 5 stars slow to make strategic decisions
There a strong defensive tone that permeates the book. The author acknowledges that matrix management was once popular and then fell under a cloud. The most notable cause he attributes to the best selling In Search of Excellence: Lessons from America's Best-Run Companies (Collins Business Essentials) by Peters and Waterman in the 80s. It claimed that various companies had done well by not using matrix management, and that other companies who had stumbled were using it.

In response, the author cites companies like Boeing, Intel, DEC [Digital Equipment Corporation] and Kodak that do use matrix management.

There probably are cases where the matrix approach can be useful. As in doing personnel evaluations, where it reduces the subjectivity in a given manager's assessment of a subordinate, by pooling together the opinions of several managers.

But the book is weakly argued. The biggest drawback to matrix management is the sheer slowness of the decision loop, especially when dealing with large scale strategic issues. The book pays little attention to addressing this, even if the author disagrees with the claim.

For instance, since 1988, Kodak's workforce has plunged over 90%, and the company has reeled from years of losses. Due to the rise of digital cameras, and the downfall of traditional film. But also exacerbated by wrong and slow decisions that worsened the decline. Surely Kodak is not a successful company, in the book's timeframe, which roughly spans the 80s to the present.

Another "successful" company mentioned was DEC. Some of you may not have even heard of it. Which is the point. Up till 1987, it was very successful indeed. It dominated the minicomputer field, and was considered a peer of HP. If you talked to any of their people, matrix management was cited by them as a strength. But then smaller companies, with much fewer resources, but far quicker to market, ate DEC's lunch. Notably Sun Microsystems. Essentially, workstations, which were dominated by Sun, replaced minicomputers. People like McNeely, Betholsheim and Joy at Sun focused on rapidly releasing the Sun 3s and Sun 4s. In contrast, DEC dithered using matrix, and was consistently late with the VaxStation and DecStation, which were their workstations. These were widely panned and fared poorly. Instead, DEC devoted far more resources to their main product line, the Vaxes.

Nor was this the only instance. DEC could have been Cisco. During the 80s, when Cisco was still small, DEC had a clear advantage in routers. Yet it squandered this in persistently going with its proprietary DECnet, while Cisco rode the rise of the Internet. Some of us who dealt with DEC at that time were told that its matrix management had the effect of starving resources for newer markets. By coincidence, DEC also peaked in 1987-8, the same time as Kodak.

The book is tone deaf. A reader who knows what happened to DEC and Kodak cannot be impressed by how the book simply ignores what happened to them, by labelling them as successful. More broadly, the book attributes some of those companies' success to the use of matrix. For the sake of argument, let's assume that matrix did indeed help them rise. But logically the question should then be asked, did matrix help them then fall? The book does not even try to address this question.

Product Description
In some way or another most of us are "stuck"-in a secret sin we can't control or maybe by an inability to stand up for ourselves. In Escaping the Matrix, authors Gregory A. Boyd and Al Larson use the vehicle of The Matrix film trilogy to argue that our struggles with habitual sin, thought patterns, damaged emotions, and phobias happen because we do not know how to take charge of the way we experience reality. The authors draw on biblical and psychological insights to provide practical resources for helping believers escape the matrix of the world system that ensnares them. While this book is aimed at the newest generation of Christian readers, all ages will be inspired by the book's innovative strategies for experiencing a deeper life in Christ. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
This book is life-changing. I love the Matrix movies, and have always been struck by the parallels of Christians being stuck in the world, as programmed by the enemy. Great read, and completely biblically sound. Great balance of psychology and spiritual truth.

4-0 out of 5 stars Escaping the Matrix
This is an excellent book leading us to be free of all past lies we carry with us.We believe the lies are real even when we know better.I highly recommend this book for inner healing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Sad
I love Greg Boyd - I loved "God of the Possible", I love his
podcast, I love this theology.... let's get that down right off
the bat. I am not some closed-minded fundie.

This book, however, is terrible.
Not because it is dangerous, or bad theology....
Because it is just plain corny.

When the book asked me what my thought "smelled" like or felt like
was it soft or hard - I felt like I was at a new-age pagan drum circle...
Making up stuff in your head won't help fight the war - the war is
real. Demons are real.

Just avoid this book. Get his other books, listen to his podcast,
just leave the creative visualization to the weekend witches and
wizards at the local occult book store.

3-0 out of 5 stars Too much Matrix lingo

Summary: The premise of this book is that it is not enough to know or to be able to recite true information, because it doesn't result in transformation, only experiencing the truth will lead to transformation.

The authors call the total package of lies that infiltrate our minds "the Matrix" in reference to the "Matrix" movies. After explaining in detail the nature of this Matrix in part one of the book, the second part deals with ways of escaping the Matrix. They propose a number of exercises that change the representations of some key events of your life.

Commentary:
There are a some passages of the book that I really liked. One example is the illustration they use about the "tree of knowledge of good and evil" as acting as though you knew ultimate good and evil. Another is their description of God's perfect love.

But the fact that the authors are trying to translate everything they say into Matrix lingo often makes the text cumbersome to read. This language of "Matrix", "neurochips", etc is hard to follow even if one is familiar with the Matrix movies.

The authors suggest exercises to fix things on your own instead of real experience in community with others. I'm not a psychologist, but to me it seems dangerous to try the suggested exercises on your own. Either you don't have a severe traumatic experience to work through. Then good information presented with conviction and the experience of a loving Christian community, worship, and real stories have a deeper and more wholesome effect. These can provide the experiences that lead to true transformation. Or you have a severe phobia, history of abuse, or other traumatic experience. Then you need an experienced counselor, not exercises to do on your own (Even the authors' own examples come from counseling sessions they did).

(Note: The book was given to me through Mind & Media in the summer of 2005 as a gift from the Publisher who donated the books for reviewers.)

1-0 out of 5 stars The Irony.....
Christianity is an integral part of the Matrix, a control system that has deluded untold millions across the Millennia. Begin your escape from the REAL Matrix by liberating your mind from the religious dogmas that have you enslaved. And the more incensed this review leaves you the more brainwashed you are. 5-0 out of 5 stars For all Splintered Minds
Very well written introduction to philosophy via the matrix. A must read for serious Matrix fans.

5-0 out of 5 stars "It is time to give up your belief in material spoons."
What a fun read!

This book presents a thorough analysis of the entire Matrix saga, including the Animatrix and Enter the Matrix video game. Rather than approaching the films from one philosophical view, many contrasting opinions are presented, leaving the reader to make up his or her own mind.

I've watched the films countless times, and this book still made me look at the Matrix in a way I never had before. Still, this book manages to provoke a chuckle here and there, rather than taking itself too seriously. And that's the great thing about this book. It's far from dull, nothing like a textbook. And when I read it, I could tell that Matt Lawrence is a genuine fan of the series, not just a professor looking to cash in on the Wachowskis' success. I could feel his excitement for the subject matter, which added to my excitement.

One of the highlights of this book is its character list and glossary, both of which are very informative. I knew these films were loaded with symbolism, but these passages opened my eyes to some intriguing, subtle details that, otherwise, would have gone unnoticed.

If you're a Matrix buff, this is definitely the book to get. However, it may be a little dense for casual fans or those who wish to simply understand the plot elements.

This book can only show you the door. You must be the one to walk through it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Like A Splinter In Your Mind Review
The book, Like a Splinter in Your Mind, is a great read for anyone who enjoys The Matrix trilogy and is interested in understanding additional backstory and clarifying a few of the confusing concepts found in the films. For example: why don't the machines just kill all the humans instead of plug them into the Matrix, what kind of philosophy Morpheus, the Oracle, Neo, and the Merovingian believe in, why Neo can do what he does, etc.The philosophy presented will embellish the reader's understanding of The Matrix trilogy, and lend relevance to the philosophy which exists in our every day lives. It's an awesome book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Philosophy 101 revisited
This is really a great philosophy 101 book that tries to link examples to the three matrix movies, animatrix video and enter the matrix game.It does this very well but asside from the very excellent glossary and cast of characters which gives you the symbolism of names used down to what agent smith's car license plate "IS 5416" means, this is first of all a philosophy book. You will find all views on current philosophy, dualism determinism, etc etc discussed and defined. It's really great stuff and they try to make it as far removed from a college course as possible by going back to the matrix once in a while to give examples.I really liked it and learned a lot of things i missed back in college phil 101 that have pointed me to new books and ideas.

Although i haven't read these other books, it seems a trend now to link movies or tv shows to a book about philosophy.I've seen the tv show LOST and even "Battlestar Galactica" published as a "the philosophy of...".I have a feeling many of these books will also go over the same basic philosophy principles and try to make them stick to the show/ movie for better or worse.

4-0 out of 5 stars hit and miss
This is a collection of stories that are split between mind-shattering entertainment and decrepit dullness. Most of the stories contained are stunning examples of smart science-fiction, but then you get a couple of stories that bring the world of the Matrix to the dumbest levels it has ever produced.

Out of the 12 stories presented, 8 of them hold up amazingly well. The best story isn't even a comic. It's an all-text story called "Goliath", and (IMO) its the best story Neil Gaiman has done outside of his Sandman epic. I would say it's as good as the 1st Matrix movie. It's probably worth buying the book for.

Overall, this book is a lot better than the Animatrix, and just as good as Matrix: Reloaded.

Product Description
Matrix Analysis and Applied Linear Algebra is an honest math text that circumvents the traditional definition-theorem-proof format that has bored students in the past. Meyer uses a fresh approach to introduce a variety of problems and examples ranging from the elementary to the challenging and from simple applications to discovery problems. The focus on applications is a big difference between this book and others. Meyer's book is more rigorous and goes into more depth than some. He includes some of the more contemporary topics of applied linear algebra which are not normally found in undergraduate textbooks. Modern concepts and notation are used to introduce the various aspects of linear equations, leading readers easily to numerical computations and applications. The theoretical developments are always accompanied with examples, which are worked out in detail. Each section ends with a large number of carefully chosen exercises from which the students can gain further insight.

The textbook contains more than 240 examples, 650 exercises, historical notes, and comments on numerical performance and some of the possible pitfalls of algorithms. It comes with a solutions manual that includes complete solutions to all of the exercises. As a bonus, a CD-ROM is included that contains a searchable copy of the entire textbook and all solutions. Detailed information on topics mentioned in examples, references for additional study, thumbnail sketches and photographs of mathematicians, and a history of linear algebra and computing are also on the CD-ROM, which can be used on all platforms.

Students will love the book's clear presentation and informal writing style. The detailed applications are valuable to them in seeing how linear algebra is applied to real-life situations. One of the most interesting aspects of this book, however, is the inclusion of historical information. These personal insights into some of the greatest mathematicians who developed this subject provide a spark for students and make the teaching of this topic more fun. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Good depth and breadth
This is a good overall book that goes beyond your basic linear algebra texts such as Leon. If you're on the fence about buying it, just google Carl Meyer. His website has a digital copy of the text, so you can check it out and decide if it's worth buying. I commend the author for making the digital copies available, which is uncommon for an author to do. So if you find the text useful, please buy it!

Oh, by the way, the textbook includes a cd with searchable pdf copies of the book and solutions manual. That alone sets this text apart from most others.

3-0 out of 5 stars good for some, not so good for others
UPDATE: I decided to rewrite this since people didn't find it very helpful initially. This book was getting outstanding ratings across the board so I wanted to offer a different perspective. I used it for a Linear Algebra class, and I found the book to be fair, at best. The book attempts to strike a balance between proofs and practical applications. In that sense, it is a fairly balanced book, and in that same sense, it is lacking in both.

It is not a proof-oriented book. I prefer proof-oriented books like Axler and Lang. Although there are some proofs throughout the text, they are inconsistent. I had a few instances where I thought that obvious steps were missing (yes this happens frequently in math texts), and in one bizarre case I remember reading a poof whose theorem had never been stated! (This should have been picked up in the edit.)

As for the practical application side, we didn't delve deeply in my course. The practical applications are sprinkled throughout, but they are not the main focus. The main focus is on solving linear algebra problems that will be practically useful. The book does a solid job of presenting an array of problems, but it is not drill and kill. Still, more examples would have been helpful.

The notation is very modern. The reading I found mediocre. The solutions manual is good. Ultimately, I wanted to like this book more than I did. This text is reasonable for a third year undergraduate course looking at Linear Algebra from a broad perspective. You will have to think to use this text, and that's a good thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Remarkable Book of The Highest Standard
This outstanding book really defines a gold standard by doing so many things so well. I had used this book for a detailed self-study, and I couldn't be happier with the experience.

As an introductory text, it starts with the very basics. But it builds into a very detailed and comprehensive volume while progressively raising the level of mathematical rigor.

I think few books pay such meticulous attention to perfectly ordering every bit ofinformation such that the text is always absolutely concise, clear, and authoritative - without the slightest hint of forward reference or "hand-waving".

This book is densely packed with a large number of thoughtfully created examples and exercises that blend beautifully into the thread of the book. The majority of them illustrate applications of the ideas. Some others are referred to in later chapters as building blocks of proofs or simply motivate more advanced studies.

Every one of the end-of-chapter exercises is solved - or more accurately - worked out in complete detail in the accompanying solutions booklet. Quite extra-ordinary!

BTW, these examples and exercises are also the key to potentially pruning your study. The author warns in the preface that "this book is a comprehensive work that is not meant to be devoured cover-to-cover".

Finally, I like the book's simple and thoughtful typographical work. It makes effective use of indentation, partition lines, highlights and fonts - without creating distracting "visual noise" the way some modern text books seem to do!

1-0 out of 5 stars Most Useless Linear Algebra Book Ever Written
Not sure what the hype is over this book.It is "easy" to read, but it doesn't lay a solid foundation for further study in advanced linear algebra.Perhaps thats why the word "applied" is in the title; to be sure, all I learned from this book (I read perhaps three chapters before dumping it) were a few computational tricks. To be fair, I had an equally useless teacher who did his best to prove theorems which were not in the book (thereby rendering a good chunk of the book totally irrelevent). As far as the actual content of the book goes, the problems at the end of each section were either too hard or too easy.Generally speaking, there was no pattern to them (hence, you could do all the problems at the end of the section, and be left with very little conceptual understanding). The extremely terse solutions manual provided by the author did not help at all. In all honesty, I cannot say this book was at all motivating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent book!
This is probably the best book to learn linear algebra from. The exposition is very clear and it has many insightful exercises. In my opinion, it contains everything that should be covered in an introductory course. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent reference
I bought this book a few years ago. I read it cover to cover. At work I have it in my library, and it's great to have such a good reference near you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Matrix Computations is an excellent guide to understanding and implementing Numerical Linear Algebra
This book is an excellent book for the student or researcher who needs to understand clearly the issues that arise in the developement of algorithms for the solution and analysis of linear systems. It gives a great explanation of how one operation like solving a linear system or doing just forward or backward solves can be mapped to basic BLAS primitives and how these variations have been implemented in popular libraries such as Lapack or BLAS and the archetectual reasons why one approach may be more optimized than another, row versus column operations, for example.

For the student it provides a nice walk through on the develpment of these algorithms and for the researcher provides a life long resource for reference to the many algorithms that are laid out here.

This book is clear and easy to follow and it is recomended for anyone who is serious about learning how to design and implement efficient linear algebra algorithms for a variety of archetectual and coding language environments. ... Read more

Product Description
This book presents matrix algebra in a way that is well-suited for those with an interest in statistics or a related discipline. It provides thorough and unified coverage of the fundamental concepts along with the specialized topics encountered in areas of statistics such as linear statistical models and multivariate analysis. It includes a number of very useful results that have only been available from relatively obscure sources. Detailed proofs are provided for all results. The style and level of presentation are designed to make the contents accessible to a broad audience. The book is essentially self-contained, though it is best-suited for a reader who has had some previous exposure to matrices (of the kind that might be acquired in a beginning course on linear or matrix algebra). It includes exercises, it can serve as the primary text for a course on matrices or as a supplementary text in courses on such topics as linear statistical models or multivariate analysis, and it will be a valuable reference. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Good Reference
To get this out of the way first and foremost, this book simply WILL NOT STAY OPEN for at least the first 150 pages. I realize this isn't a real criticism about the material, but it is annoying enough to mention. I've never seen a hardcover book be this stubborn about staying on a page. I've tried everything from weighing it down with something reasonably heavy to stomping on the spine. As soon as I set it down, it closes.

---End Rant---

I was assigned this book for a matrix algebra course, the idea being to get incoming graduate students ready for linear models by patching up any holes in linear algebra. Towards that end, working through this book seems inefficient. It's supposed to be from a statistician's perspective, yet somehow eigenvalues/eigenvectors and the Spectral Theorem aren't touched until 21 chapters in. I find it a little odd that nullspaces aren't defined until 11 chapters in (most texts would address this by chapter 2 I think) and the closest thing to an application comes in chapter 12 with the discussion of projection matrices. I can't decide whether I like or dislike the fact that the book basically ignores computational aspects (e.g. you won't find anything about putting a matrix in reduced row echelon form in here, and very little discussion on, say, the practical ways to invert a matrix).

A unique aspect of this book, compared with other Linear Algebra texts, is the level of abstraction. Everything is at the level of the vector space R^(m x n), which I suppose allows for the discussion of more specialized topics without having to specify. In my opinion, it's pretty comprehensive at this level of generality and covers many topics that are omitted in more standard texts. As far as the general writing of the book, I feel that a lot of the material is under motivated, which is fine for a reference but not good for an assigned textbook.

I imagine that I will keep this book as a reference, particularly for the less essential material. It's well organized and, for my needs, comprehensive enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good reference book, not the book to learn matrix algebra from for the first time
I'm currently using this book in a class I'm taking. Overall, the content of the book is very solid, and I can see keeping this book (or possibly the hardcover version) on my shelf for years to come. However, the material is very dense and the exposition is generally lacking. Reading this book is difficult due in part to the poor layout decisions that were made; the layout isn't atrocious, but there is significant room for improvement. Also, the soft-cover seems to not want to stay closed (just a minor annoyance).

If you've never taken a matrix algebra course before, this is not the book to learn from (try either the Hoffman and Kunze or Friedberg books - both are considered good undergraduate-level texts). If you are looking for a book to act as a reference, this is a good choice. In my opinion, there should be a somewhat larger focus on the applications of the matrix algebra to statistics.

(4 stars because it is a solid reference and I knew that is what it aims to be - it lost a star due to the layout and cover issues as well as the dissatisfying lack of direct applications to statistics).

5-0 out of 5 stars Good general book on matrices
It is difficult to find an advanced book on matrix algebra. In any discipline that requires numerical computation, one needs knowledge of advanced matrix algebra.Analytical matrix algebra does not have a natrual home.Almost all linear algebra books are too low of level. There are books on numerical linear algebra such as Trefethen and Bau or Golub and Van Loan and books on vector space linear algebra such as Hoffman and Kunze, but neither of these types of books provide broad coverage of advanced matrix algebra. This book fills that gap.I consider this book to be superior to Applied Matrix Algebra in the Statistical Sciences by Alexander Basilevsky, Matrix Algebra: Theory, Computations, and Applications in Statistics by Gentle, and A Matrix Handbook for Statisticians by Seber.

As one reviewer notes, the book does not have a lot of problems.I would focus more on proving the theorems rather than the number of problems.Harville could have proved less of the theorems, and inserted them as problems, but he proved a large number of theorems in detail.

5-0 out of 5 stars Deep treatment of the subject matterthat should have been marketed with a different title
This is a fantastic treatment of advanced matrix algebra that is applicable to many areas such as controls, econometrics, multi-variable stats, optimization, etc.In short, there is material in this book that I have not seen anywhere else. I am sure that the title of this book has led to many workers outside of stats not giving the text a second look. This is a shame.Marketing is everything.A better title is "Advanced Matrix Algebra for Applications".

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference but not Suitable for Learning
The book is very dense and detailed, which makes it an excellent reference book. However, I don't believe this book is suitable for learning Matrix Algebra. Each chapter includes only a few practice problems which I found to be a major shortcoming.I still gave it a 4/5 because it will still be very helpful for me as a reference. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointed
I love all types of unusual romance -- paranormal, sci fi etc. -- and wanted to add another author to my list.I'd read such good things about Dara Joy.Unfortunately, I couldn't even get through the first quarter of the book. The characters were so flimsy and one dimensional -- doormat "heroine," preening self-absorbed "hero."I guess Dara Joy's just not my cup of tea...

1-0 out of 5 stars waste
the book was a waste of a poor tree.please do not let trees die in vain... OMG this horrible book has turned me into a tree hugger!!

5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK!! MUST READ!!
After finishing the Sookie Stackhouse Series I was looking for a good book or series and this was a GREAT continuation!!!! I loved the book and couldnt put it down!!!! Once I finished I couldnt wait to read the second book Rejar and MAN WAS I dissapointed!!!! What a waist!!! I thought I was going to have a good series of books but it was so bad I could only get half way thru it and stopped. If you want a single good book to read, Mine to Take is worth it and AWESOME but dont bother on the second book.

4-0 out of 5 stars More like 4 and 1/2 stars
I love this author....even though High Energy is my favorite by this author...I still truly enjoyed this one too. Great sex, fun characters and enjoyable story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely a new type of read
This is my first novel from Dara Joy and to be honest, I'm sorta torn with the whole read. No doubt, I loved how she really emphasized this notion of POWER. Frequently, the story went back to this idea of power and I loved the tone she used with it. In "Mine To Take" she naturally handles ideas that are philosophical about love, energy, power; and it was kind of hard to wrap my mind around it and fully appreciate it. Nonetheless, the tone she used to deliver these notions seemed very natural for her.

I like how this book is such a departure from my usual readings. You will read of different worlds like that of Aviara and M'yan, places with red crystal rooms and portals that link the foreign worlds, different dangers like these plants that immobilize you and eat you, and aliens definitely and foreign people with different beliefs! :D Whole new setting for me.But I did enjoy the adventure the two, Gian Ren and Jenise, partook in order to gain their freedoms.

Gian Ren was a delight. He was equal parts feral and gallant! Oh-so-gallant =) Playful, kind, mischievous. Jenise was courageous, trusting, and a very compassionate especially when it came to the welfare of Gian. Their coupling was believable ...But I wished I could have connected with them more, meshed with them more flawlessly. I was disappointed that the love scenes were somewhat lacking. I mean, the guy is part feline!! It would have been awesome to see more of *that* side. I've read of more love scenes with the men being incredibly feral, and they were all the way human :) Ya know? But I did LOVE, love, love, seeing how he approached touching. New caresses I have yet to witness; sensual bites, purrrrrs!! Hands down, the romance was more powerful near the very end of the story.

There's just so many new foreign facets this books embodies. But first and foremost, with this being a romance, I wished Dara Joy went deeper with it because I felt somewhat detached from it. But, do read this if looking for galactic-type settings, adventure, notions of power and freedom, a VERY sensual man/feline, sweet yet strong moments of profound revelations, and whether if love is a restraint or if it frees the soul. Have fun.

Happy Reading.

5-0 out of 5 stars A book on elementary matrix theory couldn't be better than this
Matrices permeate modern industrial societies. There is hardly a single branch of science and engineering where they don't play an important role. From matrix (quantum) mechanics to marketing, from numerical analysis to neurosciences all depend, to some extent, on matrices to express their concepts. No wonder an authoritative and comprehensive book on elementary matrix theory was to be greatly desired. Many have been published over the years, but few worthy of note.

Most physics and engineering students long for an easy-to-study math book to hone their problem-solving skills. Professor Richard Branson's book "Matrix Operations" helps them to do just that, and much more. His innovative algorithmic approach -concise and compact- to matrix theory demystify a subject that often haunts college students. Chapters follow a logical sequence where matrix algebra and matrix (numerical) methods live side by side in perfect harmony. Without losing sight of mathematical rigour, Professor Branson presents simultaneous linear equations, matrix inversion, eigenvalues and eigenvectors, inner products, canonical bases, similarity, Hermitian matrices, quadratic forms and the like in a most successful manner. His exposition of Jordan canonical forms (on pp.91-93, chapter 10), crème de la crème of the theory, is a jewel of simplicity (if the great French mathematician Camille Jordan were still alive he would certainly be proud of it). Rather involved topics such as the Cholesky decomposition, finite Markov chains, and Rayleigh's principle were cut to the bone; and esoteric mathematical entities such as Gerschgorin disk (on page 170, chapter 19) rendered more tasteful to the palate through Branson's magic touch. I wish a book like this had been available in my college years. Happiness came too late.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good linear algebra supplement book
This is a very nice book to supplement almost any linear/matrix algebra book you may have.Nice to see some proofs written out for some of the exercises. For the incredible low price, you can't go wrong with this. However, I would highly recommend beginners to learn from a standard linear algebra textbook first before diving into this. My only complaint is that for some of the more advanced topics, it doesn't go far enough.Maybe someone can write a Advanced Matrix Operations sequel some day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Matrix Algebra Schaum's Outline

I recommend this book seller.

5-0 out of 5 stars Straight to the point
The author has a real knack at making the subject accessible and easy to assimilate. I would recommend you get this book before you go on to a more advanced book like Matrix Computations (Johns Hopkins Studies in Mathematical Sciences)(3rd Edition).
You can read this bit by bit, there are plenty of examples to drive the point home and it's easy to find what you are looking for. All this for a very low price. What more could you ask? Well, sure there could be more advanced topics, Householder matrices are only touched upon, but you'll pick that up easily when you are done with this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great stories, poor binding!
This would have been a 5 star rating if not for the incredibly poor binding. Only reason all pages are still together is because of carefull handling, I'm afraid it'll selfdestruct the second time through.

The stories like in the Animatrix are extremely varied and usually surprisingly good (despite high expectations!). The styles range from comic to realistic and there's even a fully written story in there.

If you liked the Animatrix, you'll probably love these as well.

Product Description
Linear algebra and matrix theory have long been fundamental tools in mathematical disciplines as well as fertile fields for research. In this book the authors present classical and recent results of matrix analysis that have proved to be important to applied mathematics. Facts about matrices, beyond those found in an elementary linear algebra course, are needed to understand virtually any area of mathematical science, but the necessary material has appeared only sporadically in the literature and in university curricula. As interest in applied mathematics has grown, the need for a text and reference offering a broad selection of topics in matrix theory has become apparent, and this book meets that need. This volume reflects two concurrent views of matrix analysis. First, it encompasses topics in linear algebra that have arisen out of the needs of mathematical analysis. Second, it is an approach to real and complex linear algebraic problems that does not hesitate to use notions from analysis. Both views are reflected in its choice and treatment of topics. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book.
This is not an introduction to linear algebra, but, as the title suggests, a book on Matrix Analysis. The exposition is very clear, the coverage is very extensive and reasonably deep -- all in all this is a great reference and introduction to the subject. The other reviews which complain of a "dry and boring" style seem somewhat misguided. The book is clear, to the point, and introduces the material in a gradual and edifying manner. I would certainly use it for a high level undergraduate/introductory graduate course.

3-0 out of 5 stars Matrix Analysis
What an uninteresting book! The content of the book may be good, but the style is very dry and boring. It's really abstract and I don't think the problems in the book are very interesting. I would recommend this book as a reference rather than a textbook.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good collection of results in the subject

Ever wish someone could give you a big handle on the entire Bible without years of study?

Well, this book not only promises to give you that big handle-it will deliver on the promise. You should be asking, how is this possible?

The Bible is one story told over and over again, with many variations on the same theme. This structure is the Bible's DNA.This basic seven-point pattern is the heartbeat of the Creation. It is the cycle of a human day and a human life. It is the pattern of the Tabernacle. It is the process of agriculture. It undergirds the speeches and Laws of God. It orders the rise and fall of nations and empires. It is also the structure of our worship. It is the rhythm of Christ, and it will open the Bible for you like never before. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Invasion of the Old Testament Snatchers! And Other Low Views of Scripture
The church today is plagued with implicit Marcionism. Marcion, a heretic in the 2nd century, believed that Christianity did not need the foundation of the Old Testament, among other things. Today, many churches agree with Marcion in practice. And practice inevitably affects principle. The Old Testament today is seen as an irrelevant and over-lengthy text, relegated to the deepest dungeons of seminaries. The Old Testament is merely a prologue to the New Testament, and who reads prologues anymore?

Michael Bull is no Marcionite, and he believes the best weapon against this ancient heresy, as well as apathy toward Scripture in general, is to unveil the artistry and beauty of God's designed Word. That's right, God designed the Scriptures, as an architect designs a skyscraper, but unlike man's attempt to build himself up to reach God, the Scripture is God's building, a reverse Babel, reaching down to us. And it is masterfully constructed. Reading the Bible as doctrine manual or moral textbook can only bring a limited amount of satisfaction, but Bull teaches us to read the Bible as art, God's art.

As Bull instructs, the Bible uses an ancient literary device called chiasm, and in the case of Scripture, hundreds of these sevenfold patterns emerge. This is the pattern of growth and maturity that God utilizes to reiterate, time and time again, his sovereignty over all things, history included. Creation, division, ascension, testing, maturity, conquest, and glorification: the Bible is full of this pattern, divine comedy after divine comedy. Allow Bull to walk you through this, and you will be thankful for the journey. The Bible is gloriously patterned, indeed.

As for the delivery itself, the book is very pithy, refraining from theo-jargon, and includes many helpful charts and illustrations. These help to reinforce Bull's effort of giving his readers a big handle on the Bible. I have not yet read Jordan's book, "Through New Eyes", but this appears to be less dense and more of an introductory work on the topic. At times it even gives the impression of a workbook of sorts, Bull inviting his readers to think of other applications and connections that he does not explicitly mention. Overall, "Bible Matrix" is a very satisfying introduction to the typology and chiasm of Sacred Scripture.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible is a work of art and its time to unplug ourselves from the matrix of reductionist science
In the Beginning Was the Word: Language--A God-Centered Approach Art as Experience- an interesting set of book ends to this new volume by Michael Bull...

Michael Bull takes a fresh look at the Bible, appropriate to the technologies we think with and the language we use in 2010.He also demonstrates a continuum - between talking about the way we use words and the language of the Bible itself. How is this possible? The rich pictures and metaphors in the biblical text have an enduring quality, they may well be the common substance of the Bible, the threads of the tapestry. This book is biblical theology at its best, but it doesn't use those words. This book is a thorough reading of the biblical text, but you are unlikely to have read it like this before. So this review is about the art of Michael's book, not a decomposition of its contents page - his publisher can do that for you by making the book available to view in Amazon!

Michael and I belong to the same church in the Blue Mountains near Sydney, and he has shared many stories with me about writing The Bible Matrix. In fact it is impossible to talk to Michael without him sharing a story about biblical ideas and the consequence of the rich pictures in God's Word. I have also read through much of Michael's Bull's longer book, Totus Christus, the volume on which the Bible Matrix is based, and its all good biblical stuff.Through the lens of a (graphic) artist's eyes, Michael brings an honest approach to his experience of life, God and the people around him. What becomes clear as you read this book is that the events, language, people, places and meaning within the Bible are enduring but have largely in the past been interpreted through the lens of an assumed 'science' when the Bible is primarily written from an artists perspective.

What often passes for 'theology' is a dualism of Western culture that denies access to the creative mind of God.The flowing river, the substance of the biblical text, is not designed for decomposition into buckets of analysis, but its artistic creator wanted to stir his human beings with material that made sense in the river of human experience. If we ignore the literary boundaries and conventions set by scripture we are timid when approaching the text, shy away from its metaphors, and deny ourselves its clarifying and purifying light. This is the intention of the artist. We are God's creative material, his plot involves his people as characters. His story is our story. His words are the stuff of life.God's perceived object in giving us his word is rarely seen as a work of music with a mood in mind, a landscape painting with a pastoral heart. Meanwhile we chop up passages about the Potter and his clay as if they were units in a high school science experiment.

It is time to animate the scriptures as a work of art.The Bible is not an exhibit based on human causal reasoning but a pervasive act of creation that demands understanding on it own terms.Michael Bull helps us unplug from the matrix of Cartesian dualism, unplug from the mythology of supposed 'scientific' laws, to see God's words as they stretch out indefinitely, full of mystery, calling us to experience, to sense, to feel, to live in the unlimited envelope of His Word. The Bible Matrix beckons you to experience the Bible, to catch a glimpse of an untravelled world, that exists beyond the margins of theologies, systems, -isms and schisms, where you can live and move and find your being. ... Product Description

In this dynamic book, theologian, futurist, and communications expert M. Rex Miller presents the innovative millennium matrix, that explains the way we store and distribute information changes our worldviews. Based on the author’s extensive research, The Millennium Matix explores the major paradigm and worldview shifts over the past two thousand years and maps them into an easily accessible chart summarizing the entire history of culture and church. From the oral culture of Jesus’ time to the print world of Gutenberg’s Bible to the broadcast era of television to the emerging digital culture, readers will see the impact of communication on worship and spirituality. Even more, the book then provides practical suggestions on how Christians can successfully navigate the rapid cultural changes that are occurring and that will continue to occur over the decades to come. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best book to help me understand digital age implications for church
Rex Miller, The Millennium Matrix: Reclaiming the Past, Reframing the Future of the Church (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass, 2004)

Theologian, futurist and communications expert Rex Miller argues that communication eras are the most helpful way of understanding history and today's context. His Millennium Matrix proposes that the way we store and distribute information changes our worldview. He explores the implications of the oral culture of Jesus' time (the birthplace of the liturgical church), the print culture ushered in by Gutenberg's Bible (the birthplace of the Reformation church), the broadcast era of television (home of the celebration church) and the emerging digital culture that is rushing to meet us. Here Miller suggests we will meet the `convergence church', which brings together aspects of previous eras but is also ready to engage with the changes that are inherent in the digital age. In this transition time between broadcast and digital communications, our sense of time, truth, space, identity, spirituality and even art and music is changing. These changes in how we believe, know, live and work have implications that the emerging church is beginning to grapple with. Miller predicts hopefully: `As the digital era dawns, the church will begin to master the new medium. We will develop new skills that enable us to think in multiple media, work collaboratively, organize as distributed networks, affiliate with diverse individuals of common interest, think with both sides of the brain, and define our communities more loosely but also more deliberately as intentional communities' (p.123).

5-0 out of 5 stars Something to think about
The Millennium Matrix is a great work of forward thinking. I had a conference with the author concerning how churches need to look to the future. It was more than helpful, it was extremely inspiring, but we need to be ready to adjust to the technology of the future. Churches who do not will not survive long. Great book with an important message.

5-0 out of 5 stars Should be required reading for all leaders
Without over-generalizing Rex Miller explains many trends we see around us and helps us consider where they will lead.He helps us understand how we got where we are today in a way that makes me thankful to be alive at this turning point in human history. While it was written with church leaders in mind, thinkers and leaders of all organizations will benefit from this timely work.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Communication Chart for all Offices
What a helpful book on understanding our past, present, and future in communication. M. Rex Miller is clear and precise as to the breakdown of how we have learned from ancient times and how we will learn in the future. If you are worried about postmodern thought then this is the book to read because Miller shows how a new way of thinking and processing information can be very spiritually productive in a rapidly changing society and church.

2-0 out of 5 stars Good For Only a Few Chapters
The book started off reminding me of chick lite with all the humor. I laughed out loud a number of times, certain I would love the book. The hero was goofy even corny. But what made him so likable was the "fish out of water" concept, him being an alien on Earth and experiencing everything for the first time--with humorous results!

However--once he takes her back to his universe, the vague, generic sci-fi plot sucks the life out of the book. A magic stone in a necklace that can alter the universe? Not very original. Too make it worse, the author keeps most of the plot details secret for too long. Almost the entire book is spent traveling from point A to point B. Sorry, but traveling is not plot. The internal conflict was a little weak. The hero really had no internal conflict. He was already in marriage bliss early on.

I think the book would have been so much better if the author kept it on Earth.

1-0 out of 5 stars awful and debasing for women
I completely agree with Katrina Alice. This book was based on characters I really disliked. She was strong in her head and then the weakest woman around him and it was disgusting. He was an arrogant rapist who never listened. She whined about that but never did anything. Not only did I not enjoy this book but I felt debased as a woman.Very disturbing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Traed story
When will there be a book about Traed?I loved reading about him in 3 of her books, but don't know if he has his own book.I'm new to her novels.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I'm not usually one to get into the hidden anti-feminism stuff because I just like to sit back and enjoy a book, but with this book it was impossible. At every turn the main male character was basically being an abusive jerk, and the female lead just sits there and takes it.

First he (Lorgan) refuses to use Deana's name, calling her Adeeann even when she asks him to call her Deana. Then he supposedly marries Deana after knowing her for 2 days in an alien ceremony that she doesn't understand. When Deana realizes what he's done her biggest concern is that she's not good enough for him, not that he totally disregards her freewill and feelings. After leaving Earth Deana asks him several times to take her home (again, because she doesn't think she's good enough for him) and he tells her he will but doesn't mention that he only intends to take her to HIS home.

Before they have sex for the first time Deana tells him several times that she doesn't want to, even saying that if they did it would be RAPE, but Lorgan totally ignores her and 2 pages later Deana is happily rolling around with him having sex. This is so appalling because it sends the message that a guy can have sex with a women even if she is screaming 'No' and it will turn out ok in the end (not that I think many guys will read this) and it tells girls that its ok for someone to rape you if they are hunky and that saying 'No' doesn't really mean anything. Even later when Deana says no before sex he goes and takes her anyways.

Never once in this book does Lorgan listen to Deana or care about her feelings. He lies to her, deliberately scares her, uses sex whenever Deana disagrees with him, and abuses her in a dozen different ways and she doesn't care. I don't understand why the author of this book went through so much trouble to belittle her main character in so many ways. Its very disturbing, and really turns me off her other books even though I did enjoy two others.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Futuristic Romance
I enjoyed this book very much.I can see that this was an obvious inspiration for more recent books like Jaid Black's Trek series.Wouldn't consider this book as risque with the erotica factor but still quite romantic and sexy.I am glad I was introduced to this author and look forward to reading Rejar next. ...
