Product Description
Difference sets are of central interest in finite geometry and design theory. One of the main techniques to investigate abelian difference sets is a discrete version of the classical Fourier transform (i.e., character theory) in connection with algebraic number theory. This approach is described using only basic knowledge of algebra and algebraic number theory. It contains not only most of our present knowledge about abelian difference sets, but also gives applications of character theory to projective planes with quasiregular collineation groups. Therefore, the book is of interest both to geometers and mathematicians working on difference sets. Moreover, the Fourier transform is important in more applied branches of discrete mathematics such as coding theory and shift register sequences. ... Read more

This is a ARMY RESEARCH LAB ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND MD report procured by the Pentagon and made available for public release. It has been reproduced in the best form available to the Pentagon. It is not spiral-bound, but rather assembled with Velobinding in a soft, white linen cover. The Storming Media report number is A107503. The abstract provided by the Pentagon follows: Elementary descriptions of finite element and finite difference methods are given while the finite volume method is briefly overviewed. Examples illustrating finite element and finite difference methods are worked out. Finally, comparisons of these methods between themselves and with some examples from literature are given. (AN) ... Product Description
"Field Theory Concepts" is a new approach to the teachingand understanding of field theory. Exploiting formal analo-gies of electric, magnetic, and conduction fields andintroducing generic concepts results in a transparentlystructured electomagnetic field theory. Highlyillustrativeterms alloweasyaccess to the concepts of curl and divwhichgenerally are conceptually demanding. Emphasis is placed onthe static, quasistatic and dynamic nature of fields.Eventually, numerical field calculation algorithms, e.g.Finite Element method and Monte Carlomethod, are presentedin a concise yet illustrative manner. ... Editorial Review

Product Description
This work concerns the development of high order accurate finite difference techniques for the discretization of hyperbolic systems that are first order in time and second order in space. Its motivation comes from numerical relativity where many current formulations of the Einstein equations have this form. It pays special attention to the case where some first order derivatives are approximated with non-centered finite difference operators. This case is important because in numerical simulations of black holes using the BSSN formulation, it has beenobserved that a one-point off-centering of thederivatives from the Lie terms is essential for theaccuracy and the lifetime of the simulation. In theparticular case of the shifted wave equation -asimple but very powerful tool in numericalrelativity -it is shown here analytically that, although off-centered operators have largertruncation errors than the centered ones, there areindeed situations where off-centering is beneficialfor accuracy. This system and yet another one- dimensional model (BSSN in spherical symmetry) arealso investigated with respect to the numericaltreatment of boundaries. ... Read more

Excerpt:Not to be confused with Carleson's theorem In mathematics , in the area of complex analysis , Carlson's theorem is a uniqueness theorem about a summable expansion of an analytic function . It is typically invoked to defend the uniqueness of a Newton series expansion. Carlson's theorem has generalized analogues for expansions in other bases of polynomials. It is named in honour of Fritz David Carlson . The theorem may be obtained from the Phragmén Lindelöf theorem , which is itself an extension of the maximum-modulus theorem . Statement of theorem If f ( z ) is an entire function of exponential type , in other words, if for some , and O is big-O notation , and if for some cand if f vanishes identically on the non-negative integers, then f is identically zero. As a counter-example, note that sin( z ) vanishes on the integers; however, it fails to satisfy the second condition (since it grows exponentially on the imaginary axis, with a growth rate of c = ), and so Carlson's theorem does not apply to the sine function. A variation Let f ( z ) be regular, of the form for , and let for a0, on the imaginary axis z = i y . Then f ( z ) = 0 identically. Rubel extension A result, due to L.A. Rubel, relaxes the condition that f vanish on the integers slightly, so that f need vanish only on a set which is sufficiently dense in . ... ... Read more

Product Description
The mortgage system has been used for many years inmany countries of the world. Although the system hasundergone many changes over the passing years, thebasics remain the same. So, it can be thought thatthe earlier systems form the basis of today'smortgage system even though it represents somedifferences in practice among the countries. However, this system is very new for Turkishfinancial market as compared with developedcountries. The aim of this study is estimating thedefault and prepayment risk of mortgage contract andpricing the contract in emerging markets like Turkey. In this study, a classical option pricing techniquebased on Cox, Ingersoll and Ross is used inorder to evaluate Turkish fixed-rate mortgages. Themodel evaluates the embedded options, namely prepayment and default options, and thefuture payments which corresponds to the mortgagemonthly payments. Another aim of this study is thepricing of mortgage insurance policy which has notbeen used yet in Turkish mortgage market but thoughtas potential derivative in this market. Therefore, the model used in the study also provides values formortgage insurance policy. ... Read more
