The curriculum provides opportunities for leadership training and experience that are not duplicated in other college courses. Instruction encourages the development of resource management skills, self-assurance, confidence, personal discipline, executive abilities, personal responsibility, professional ethics, physical stamina, bearing, and other fundamental qualities required of an Army officer. These same qualities will enhance any civilian career. The first two years (MS I and MS II) comprise the Basic Course which offers an introduction to Military and Confidence Building Skills, First Aid and Survival Skills, Land Navigation, and Leadership Assessment and Managerial Skills. Basic Courses are normally taken during the freshman and sophomore years without any military obligation. The last two years (MS III and MS IV) constitute the Advanced Course and are normally taken during the student's junior and senior years. All MS courses require a non-credit Leadership Lab and a one credit hour military conditioning course (PE 1157). Additionally, Advanced Course students are required to satisfactorily complete selected courses in Written Communication, Human Behavior, Computer Literacy, Math Reasoning, and Military History prior to commissioning.

The Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps is a nationally acclaimed leader-development program that educates and trains aspiring young professionals to attain critical organizational and interpersonal leadership skills, knowledge, and attributes necessary to lead in military and corporate settings. This program includes a progressive, structured curriculum that provides the theoretical and practical application of military leadership in and out of the classroom.
ROTC students can earn a federal commission as a United States Army officer and be placed in a professional occupational specialty area of their choosing upon graduation. Students can choose to serve full-time or part-time as U.S. Army officers and are fully qualified for continuing education benefits.
Due to the dual requirements of academic degree programs and the military science program, the Department of Military Science provides lucrative financial support to include full-tuition scholarships and monthly stipends to qualified students. Additionally, all students enrolled in this program are managed using a mentor system where a faculty leader takes personal interest and effort toward promoting the students' professional development.

Military science strives to train leaders for service to the country and to the community. The Department of Military Science complements a traditional course of study by preparing young college men and women for acceptance of a commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army, Army Reserve or Army National Guard.
    Course of study
The ROTC program is divided into two parts: the basic course and the advanced course. Instruction in the basic course introduces students to management principles, national defense trends, map reading, leadership development, and military courtesy, discipline and customs. After completing the basic course, students are eligible to enroll in the advanced course provided they have demonstrated officer potential and met Army standards.
The advanced course covers the final two years of ROTC and includes a five-week leadership advanced camp conducted at Fort Lewis, Washington. While in the advanced course, students will receive $350 as juniors and $400 as seniors every month they are in school — up to ten months of the school year. They will also be paid while attending advanced camp.
Instruction includes advanced leadership development, group dynamics, organization and management, small unit tactics and administration. Practical leadership and experience is received by assigning students as cadet officers and noncommissioned officers. Students may also attend additional training during the summer months such as the Army Airborne School and Air Assault School.
