Religion and Philosophy ABOUT US PROGRAMS NEWS LIBRARY ... E-MAIL
Dear Colleagues, Welcome you to the Web site of the St. Petersburg School of Religion and Philosophy (SRPh). The St. Petersburg School of Religion and Philosophy is an educational institution established in the early 1990s whose mission is to educate both Russian and foreign students in the liberal arts, (particularly those which were not addressed by the Soviet system.) As part of this mission (goal), the School conducts various educational exchange programs. Many of you are interested in Russian culture courses, and your institute may have members who need to acquire more knowledge of a second language, which will greatly enrich the potential and quality of academic life. SRPh offers courses in culture, history, literature, art, religion and philosophy, Russian Language (for beginners and advanced), together with very attractive entertainment and activity programs in Russia's most beautiful city - St. Petersburg. All participants will have the opportunity to explore the sights and churches of St. Petersburg and its environs, to meet students and professors from the SRPh, to be involved in intellectual exchanges, and to visit other cities of Russia. In addition, it is possible to customize participants' programs to include the particular cultural activities which interest them. To study abroad - and in particular, in St. Petersburg - is less expensive than you may think. For more information on our programs, please contact us at the e-mail address shown below.

The South Carolina Society for Philosophy was founded to serve the interests and needs of philosophy students and professionals around the State of South Carolina. We meet once a year, generally sometime in February or early March, at various universities or colleges around the state (usually rotating the meeting location from year to year among coastal, midlands, and upstate campuses). At this yearly conference, there are usually some special sessions with invited speakers, but the bulk of the sessions are based on submitted papers. There are no annual dues, but members pay a registration fee to attend the annual meeting. Recently we have been holding joint meetings every other year with the North Carolina Philosophical Society , alternating meetings between South Carolina and North Carolina locations.

Humans pari passu with the evolution of the consciousness, the activities of which in the subtler bodies may be termed the soul. As the soul grows in power, love, and wisdom, it needs a better form in which to manifest itself; as the form grows in perfection, it becomes a better instrument for the soul. Here again evolve side by side the two poles of the universe, life and form, spirit and matter.

P. J. PROUDHON
Deuteronomy: c. 32. VOLUME FIRST. TRANSLATED FROM THE FRENCH BY BENJ. R. TUCKER Published and Sold by BENJ. R. TUCKER, BOSTON, MASS. University Press: JOHN WILSON AND SON, CAMBRIDGE INTRODUCTION. Before entering upon the subject-matter of these new memoirs, I must explain an hypothesis which will undoubtedly seem strange, but in the absence of which it is impossible for me to proceed intelligibly: I mean the hypothesis of a God. To suppose God, it will be said, is to deny him. Why do you not affirm him? Is it my fault if belief in Divinity has become a suspected opinion; if the bare suspicion of a Supreme Being is already noted as evidence of a weak mind; and if, of all philosophical Utopias, this is the only one which the world no longer tolerates? Is it my fault if hypocrisy and imbecility everywhere hide behind this holy formula? I will explain therefore how, studying in the silence of my heart, and far from every human consideration, the mystery of social revolutions, God, the great unknown, has become for me an hypothesis, I mean a necessary dialectical tool.
