What Was New Here I used to have a search facility to the Encyclopaedia Britannica, permission to use which was supposed to be an honour, the result of a Best Website award. However, without warning they've started using the link to put cookies onto the computers of anyone viewing my page. I regard that as unethical, and I've removed the facility and any links.
To be honest, it wasn't a very useful facility anyway... The main purpose of this site is to act as a guide and a gateway to philosophy resources on the Internet. If you're interested only in the other things on offer (which have now expanded to take up more than half the space), you should skip to Everything Else
There's also a simplified index of the main sections. The heart of the site is a set of links organised into fourteen main categories . It's not always easy to categorise Web sites; I've cross-referenced where I can, but if you don't find what you're looking for straight away, try browsing through the other pages. In some cases (for example, the list of University links) the relevant sites are stable enough to make completeness and accuracy a sensible goal, but for the most part I only hope to make this site useful and interesting.

22. The Study Of Islamic Philosophy
By Ibrahim Bayyumi Madkour, translated from Persian by Shahyar Sa'adat.
http://www.al-islam.org/al-tawhid/study-philosophy.htm
Al-Tawhid The Study of Islamic Philosophy Ibrahim Bayyumi Madkour translated from Persian by Shahyar Sa'adat Vol. 1, No. 1 (Muharram 1404 AH) For a long time Islamic philosophy was under a cloud of doubt and uncertainty. Some people denied its existence while others affirmed it. This uncertainty continued all through the nineteenth century. Those who denied the very existence of an Islamic philosophy feigned ignorance and maintained that the teachings of Islam opposed all free discussion and investigation, and therefore Islam has never risen to the aid of philosophy and science throughout the centuries of its existence. The only fruits Islam has borne for its followes have been intellectual despotism and dogmatism, they said. Christianity, in comparison, has been the cradle of free thought and discussion, they maintained, patronizing art and literature, encouraging the sciences, and becoming a fertile ground for the germination of new philosophy and helping it to develop and bear fruit. 1. 24. Hindu Philosophy
About the history, pre suppositions, epistemic concerns, language and schools of Hindu philosophy.
http://www.rep.routledge.com/philosophy/articles/entry/F/F002/F002.html
Hindu philosophy Hindu philosophy is the longest surviving philosophical tradition in India. We can recognize several historical stages. The earliest, from around 700 BC , was the proto-philosophical period, when karma and liberation theories arose, and the proto-scientific ontological lists in the Upanisads were compiled. Next came the classical period, spanning the first millennium AD The central concerns of the Hindu philosophers were metaphysics, epistemological issues, philosophy of language, and moral philosophy. The different schools can be distinguished by their different approaches to reality, but all considered the Vedas (the sacred scriptures) authoritative, and all believed that there is a permanent individual self ( ). They shared with their opponents (Buddhists and Jainas) a belief in the need for liberation. They used similar epistemic tools and methods of argument. In contrast to their opponents, who were atheists, Hindu philosophers could be either theists or atheists. Actually we can observe an increased tendency towards theistic ideas near the end of the classical period, with the result that the strictly atheistic teachings, which were more philosophically rigorous and sound, fell into disuse. Hindu metaphysics saw as part of a larger reality (Brahman).

    Welcome to Pantheist.Net!
The Internet home of the Universal Pantheist Society
Pantheist.Net is is the online home of the Universal Pantheist Society, an organization which since 1975 has provided a network for Pantheists. In Universal Pantheism, there is no creed or requirements to follow any particular belief or practices; rather we seek to provide ways for individuals to promote their own spiritual growth and understanding. Our goal is to provide Pantheism with a unified worldwide presence bringing Pantheists of all varieties together to share in our commonality while providing a continually growing source of information. What is Pantheism? Pantheism holds that the cosmos, taken or conceived of as a whole, is synonymous with the theological principle of God. The Cosmos is divine, and the earth sacred.
    The Cosmos is divine,
    all share divinity.
    Divinity does not transcend reality
it surrounds us, and is within.

    About Free Software
Free software is a matter of freedom: people should be free to use software in all the ways that are socially useful. Software differs from material objectssuch as chairs, sandwiches, and gasolinein that it can be copied and changed much more easily. These possibilities make software as useful as it is; we believe software users should be able to make use of them.

    The Free Software Definition
Croatian Czech Danish Dutch ... Turkish We maintain this free software definition to show clearly what must be true about a particular software program for it to be considered free software. ``Free software'' is a matter of liberty, not price. To understand the concept, you should think of ``free'' as in ``free speech,'' not as in ``free beer.'' Free software is a matter of the users' freedom to run, copy, distribute, study, change and improve the software. More precisely, it refers to four kinds of freedom, for the users of the software:
    • The freedom to run the program, for any purpose (freedom 0).
    • The freedom to study how the program works, and adapt it to your needs (freedom 1). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
    • The freedom to redistribute copies so you can help your neighbor (freedom 2).
    • The freedom to improve the program, and release your improvements to the public, so that the whole community benefits (freedom 3). Access to the source code is a precondition for this.
A program is free software if users have all of these freedoms. Thus, you should be free to redistribute copies, either with or without modifications, either gratis or charging a fee for distribution, to
