http://www.mathpuzzle.com/Periodic.htm
An expanded, improved, interactive and up-to-date version of this is at http://theodoregray.com/PeriodicTable/ In the well over a century since its invention by Dr. Mendeleev, the world has consistently failed to notice the word "Table" clearly contained in the name "Periodic Table", and has insisted in printing it on paper, hanging it on the wall, putting it in the back of chemistry textbooks, and generally doing all kinds of things with it that having nothing to do with being a table. Theo Gray set out to remedy this obvious misunderstanding by creating a Periodic TABLE, at the same time filling the Wolfram Research front end group's need for a conference table for their office space. It joins Theo's elegant, innovative, and of course angular " Triangle Table ." The Periodic Table was trickier to construct, due to sources disagreeing on the melting point of iron and such. It is still a work in progress, since we hope to safely store samples of all samples that can be stored safely. Currently, we need samples of Beryllium, Scandium, Hafnium, Vanadium, Niobium, Ruthenium, Cobalt, Iridium, and Boron. Small sealed samples are desired of Strontium, Barium, Yttrium, Lutetium, Osmium, Rhodium, Phosphorus, Arsenic, Tellurium, and all of the Lanthanides except Cerium. Of the Actinides, we have Am. We hope to get reasonably safe Th, Ur samples (I remember as a kid handling a 5kg brick of Ur at the Smithsonian).

You can change the temperature by manipulating the temperature slider (the scroll bar at the top of the main window). As you do so, the element colours reflect accordingly.

Chime Radii
Periodic trends in the radii of elements and their ions are a common topic in general and more advanced inorganic chemistry courses. As an inorganic chemist I like to think of the periodic table as three dimensional, involving both elements and their oxidation states. Here is a depiction of radii of elements and their ions as a Chime www page. You must obtain Chime for your browser. Then view this page and try the various options in the right frame. Note that you can also manipulate the image by using your mouse in the left frame. As currently displayed, the radii are those collected in the periodic table database program "KC? Discoverer" for the Journal of Chemical Education: Software". This display was developed using RasMol and the model Chime pages of Eric Martz.
The color scheme obtained with the top "all radii" button is related to the charge on the atom and atoms with each charge type are presented as a plane and a color:
+3 ions are red and are the smallest for a particular element. They are furthest forward.

PTViz 1.20
Periodic Table Illustrator
here , or by anonymous FTP at ftp.optc.com/pub/software/PTViz.sea.bin.
Using PTViz
When you start PTViz, it displays an unadorned periodic table in "Normal" format. The normal format contains chemical symbols, atomic numbers and atomic weights. You can change the display by clicking on parts of the table and selecting options from the menu. PTViz displays three basic formats:
  • Compact, containing only the chemical symbol. This is small enough to fit on half a page. It's most useful when used with the decoration features described below. Normal, with the chemical smbol, atomic number and atomic weight. This will fit comfortably on a landscape page. Extended, containing the information in the normal chart, plus the name with room to add other properties. This is most useful with a large screen, or with a graphics program to pick and choose parts of it. If printed, it would take about two-thirds of a B- or A3-size page.
Select from among these alternatives using the View menu. The View menu also allows you to select between IUPAC and non-IUPAC group designations, to color groups, and to suppress chemical symbols. This last is useful for tests or worksheets.

Welcome to the Periodic Table of the Elements
This is the periodic table of elements as a web page. It is an HTML table (using no graphics), so browsers that are not table-capable may not display the table properly (but they can still view the descriptions of the elements properly). Click the "View Table" button below to view the table (the page you are currently viewing is only the introduction page). I recommend for browsing these pages. If you wish to link and bookmark this page, please do it to the page you are now reading, instead of the table page itself. This is so the information on this page can be changed without modifying the table itself.
