Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives
1994-1999 - The Story
ZERO EMISSIONS aims to upsize the economy: generating innovations, more income, more jobs, and eliminating what is regarded as waste
Towards sustainable livelihoods
ZERI is working with the Sustainable Livelihood programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). UNDP starts with what people have, not with the problems they face in order to evolve towards communities which are economically efficient, socially equitable, and environmentally sound. ZERI indeed contributed towards formulating the technology strategy underpinning the Sustainable Livelihood program. This requires sharing of information, and dialogue with communities at the local and regional levels. The ZERI Foundation, in collaboration with the Chair of the International Scientific Advisory Council on ZERI, and the local Organizing Committees, therefore organizes regular workshops attempting to reach the unreached researchers. These workshops have been made possible thanks to UNDP and the ZERI Foundation. While numerous meetings have been held in Colombia, Japan, Sweden and elsewhere, only those meetings which provided published proceedings are mentioned here:

The Effectiveness of Coriolus Versicolor in the Treatment of Secondary Phenomena Associated with HIV. G.ROTOLO PZZA San Theodoro, 27100, Pavia, Italy G.Rotolo, The effectiveness of Coriolus versicolor in the treatment of secondary phenomena associated with HIV.-Poster 8.4-Submitted to the 10th International Congress of Mucosal Immunology, June 27-July 1,1999. Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Background : Immune enhancement properties of select plants and mushrooms have been studied by Japanese researchers in the 1960´s, with the majority of mycological research focused on extracts derived from both Ganoderma lucidium (reishi) and Lentinula edodes (shiitake). In the late 1960´s, a hot water extract of Lentinula edodes (Berk)Sing. edible mushroom, completely inhibited the growth of sarcoma 180 implanted subcutaneously in ICR mice. From the extract, Professor Goro Chihara isolated and purified a polysaccharide, which showed marked antitumour activity, and named the polysaccharide Lentinan (1). However, Lentinan was proven to be too toxic for long term clinical use (2). It was the search for a mycological extract that had less toxicity and fewer side effects than Lentinan that led researchers at Kureha Chemical Industry Company to focus on the effectiveness of the oral administration of Polyporaceae (one of the Basidiomycetes) on stomach cancer patients.

What is the Mushroom Grower Training Workshop

CropKing's Mushroom Grower Training Workshop is an intensive two-day training program only available to individuals who have purchased a CropKing Mushroom House.
Slide supported discussions in the classroom from our experienced Mushroom Culturist, as well as "hands-on" training in an operating mushroom house, are included. You'll test the pH of your own water, inoculate straw substrate, work with the equipment in the mushroom house and more to experience a diverse range of daily grower activities.
Certificate
An attractive, Certificate of Completion will be given to all those successfully completing the Workshop. Featured Topics Several types of substrate culture are covered, with the primary focus on the straw system for bag crops modified to handle various types of mushrooms (oyster, shiitake, reishi, enoki, etc.). Each workshop consists of two full days, with a classroom session each morning and field session in the afternoon. The audio visual classroom presentations survey the following topics:
  • Substrate Source
  • Environmental Control
  • Water Source
  • Pest Control
  • Inoculum Source
  • Basic Mycology
  • Crop Choices
  • Personal Choices
  • Attention to Detail
Lunch is provided on each day and is followed by afternoon sessions in our working mushroom facility, where a hands-on approach is used to familiarize participants in mushrooms, cultural practices and the equipment.

Product Information Cordyceps sinensis is a highly valued medicinal mushroom in both Classical Chinese Medicine and modern clinical practice. In China it is called "winter worm, summer grass", and the "caterpillar mushroom". Cordyceps is found in the highlands of China, Tibet, and Nepal, above 10,000 feet. Cordyceps attracted the attention of the general public and the health profession in 1993 when a group of Chinese runners broke nine world records in the World Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Germany. Afterwards the coach attributed those results to the athletes regular use of a cordyceps based tonic. Because Cordyseps helps increase stamina, energy levels, and endurance, it has become one of the top selling sports supplements amongst the worlds' elite competitive athletes. Clinically, Cordyceps is used to build and support immune function in various immune compromised conditions including chronic fatigue, cancer, and respiratory conditions.
