Birds work “overtime” in spring

Defending a territory. Finding a mate. Building a nest. It’s all in a day’s work for birds this time of year, and it’s enough to wear them out! Nest building is the most time-consuming and energy-depleting task most birds take on this time of year. Give your backyard birds a helping hand this spring by keeping your feeders full and making sure you have a good supply of fresh water. Your birds will treat you to the joys of watching their young learn to fly and feed at your feeders! Find feeders, nesting boxes, birdbaths and all your backyard bird feeding hobby supplies and nature gifts at the Wild Birds Unlimited store nearest you . An Eastern Bluebird is shown here.

In two centuries of American ornithology, only three comprehensive references have been completed on North American birds. The most recent of these, A.C. 9. The National Birds Of Prey Centre
Probably the most significant collection of birds of Prey in the world, with around 300 birds of prey and owls. Leading the world in captive breeding, having bred 50 species so far.

The National Birds of Pre y Centre from the air - 2002 Important Notice For anyone who is considering visiting the Centre – this is your last year (2003) to do so in its present location. The bulk of the National Birds of Prey Centre is relocating to the US at the end of this year. We have been offered the chance of joining with another group and extending the work that we have done here for the last 36 years. This opportunity is too good to lose. However – we shall be open as usual for this coming season – seven days a week until October 31 st It is planned that a smaller part of the National Birds of Prey Centre will remain and continue on with the courses, the experience days, the owl evenings and the work of the National Birds of Prey Trust. For further information see the pages on the move, which will be written and updated over the coming months. So one and all, this really is an opportunity not to be missed. This is your last chance to see this collection of birds in the setting of the Gloucestershire countryside that it has enjoyed for so long. Next year if you want to see this collection you will have to come to South Carolina which is a little further to go!

Welcome to Cage Birds!
European Goldfinches courtesy of Daniel Maldonado What is a bird?
Birds are defined as homeothermic (warm-blooded) vertebrates with two pairs of limbs based on a pentadactyl pattern. The front limbs are modified to form wings. The body is covered by feathers except over the legs and feet, where reptilian type scales exist, and over the face which is often ornamental skin. What is a bird? Birds are my companions and my friends. I wake to their songs and their chattering each morning and many days they give me the strength and the reason to get out of bed and carry on with my day. They have taught me about love and bonding and have taught me how to play again. Birds, whether my own companion birds, or the hummingbirds I see outside my window, allow me to communicate with other peopleand make new friends in a way I could not do before.

Birds of Japan and Asia
Introduction
These pages collect lots of different data collected by lots of people. A number of them still subscribes to the Kantori mailing list. I found birdwatching in Japan a refreshing experience. Basically I had to start all over again. Not only there were lots of new species, but also what might have been familiar was sometimes replaced by a confusingly different subspecies. Up to date information was and is hard to obtain because of unfamiliarity with the japanese language. On this homepage you will find pointers to useful information on birdwatching in Japan. You will also find here records of bird observations of me and some of my friends and fellow birders. The title of this homepage is happily borrowed from my very first fieldguide: Birds of Britain and Europe.
