44. The Bioinformatics Template Library (BTL)
Provides the generic mathematical components that will allow programmers to more rapidly construct applications that model biological entities.
http://www.cryst.bbk.ac.uk/~classlib/bioinf/BTL99.html
The Bioinformatics Template Library (BTL) The BTL uses templates to implement generic programming in same way as the Standard Template Library (STL). The original STL has largely been incorporated into the ANSII/ISO standard for C++. For more information on the STL, see Silicon Graphic's Programmers Guide
The BTL is described in a poster we presented recently Download BTL 3.0 BTL3.tar.gz or BTL3.zip
The source code was last updated on 29th October 1999 following one year of use worldwide it is now regarded as a beta release View the BTL 3.0 documentation Note: BTL is fully tested with egcs 1.1.1 and 1.1.2.
Following the gcc/egcs merger there have been problems with more recent releases.
Use with gcc 2.95 and beyond is not presently recommended. Any questions to Mark Williams

Bioinformatics 2002 was the fourth major international bioinformatics meeting in Scandinavia. It was be organised by the Society for Bioinformatics in the Nordic Countries (SocBiN) in cooperation between Scandinavian bioinformatics groups. The conference covered current developments in research on all aspects of bioinformatics. Bioinformatics 2002 was held in the city of Bergen which is located on the west coast of Norway. Bergen was founded around 1070 and today it is the second largest city in the country. Bergen is often called "the gateway to the Fjords" and is the perfect starting point for exploring the western part of Norway. The city itself has many historical buildings, among them is the "Bryggen" a UNESCO-protected Hanseatic building complex. Bioinformatics 2002 was held in the centre of the city within walking distance from the major tourist attractions, shops etc. Travelling to Bergen is easy for example using direct flights from Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, and London. The venue of the conference was the Raddison SAS Royal Hotel Bergen located at "Bryggen".

AMMP Home Page
Welcome to AMMP
AMMP is a modern full-featured molecular mechanics, dynamics and modeling program. It can manipulate both small molecules and macromolecules including proteins, nucleic acids and other polymers. In addition to standard features, like numerically stable molecular dynamics, fast multipole method for including all atoms in the calculation of long range potentials and robust structural optimizers, it has a flexible choice of potentials and a simple yet powerful ability to manipulate molecules and analyze individual energy terms. One major advantage over many other programs is that it is easy to introduce non-standard polymer linkages, unusual ligands or non-standard residues. Adding missing hydrogen atoms and completing partial structures, which are difficult for many programs, are straightforward in AMMP. It is written in C and has been ported to many different computers. The source code is available under a modified GNU "copyleft" so that it is easy to follow exactly what the program is doing. (i.e. you can do what you want with the code, but you can't sell it as a product without my permission). Another major advantage over commercial software is that AMMP can be easily included in another program to supply molecular mechanics function. The program and modeling methods are under active development. User feedback is appreciated and incorporated in the program. A graphical interface is available for Linux and Unix with the openGL graphics language and for windows 95/98/NT

The Computational Biology group at UCSC is dedicated to the discovery and implementation of algorithms that facilitate the understanding of biological processes. Our work emphasises the application of statistical and machine learning techniques. Because these methods are often compute-intensive, we strive to create algorithms and heuristics that are computationally efficient on serial and parallel computers. Members of the group study the primary (sequence), secondary (folding), and tertiary (3-dimensional) structures of DNA, RNA and protein sequences. We are part of the

Features news articles and essays by scientists on how to find a job. Covers phd level occupations. Includes bioinformatics and Seattle biotechnology links.
http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaveral/Hangar/4707/sci-careers.html
Purpose:
For scientists, jobs are very difficult to find these days. This site aims to provide scientists with information on traditional and alternative careers with both links and featured guest essays by scientists who offer their wisdom on how to find a job, what their jobs are like, and other topics of interest. In the News:
Recent stories on the science job marketplace. Traditional Science Careers (Ph.D. level):
Traditional science careers include professorships at research- or teaching-oriented universities and colleges. Research scientist positions in private industry are far more common now than twenty years ago and so are among today's typical career choices for Ph.D. level scientists.
Professor, research emphasis
Professor/Instructor, undergraduate teaching emphasis
Research scientist, private sector
Alternative Science Careers:
What is an alternative science career? It is probably a job that an early stage graduate student would never have predicted for his/her future, but yet in some way is related to science and so makes use of the individual's scientific training. This group of careers includes jobs in science industry away from the bench, e.g. in computational biology, regulatory affairs, marketing, sales, technical support and business development. Other examples are technical writer, patent attorney, patent agent, public policy specialist, science journalist, and science textbook editor.

What is Bioinformatics? Bioinformatics is a newly emerging interdisciplinary research area which may be defined as the interface between biological and computational sciences . Thus, the people working in this field in most cases either have a training in biology or computer science, and they learned about the other field by dealing with problems or using the tools of the other one. However, courses and seminars covering many aspects of Bioinformatics also exist. And although the term 'Bioinformatics' is not really well-defined, you could say that this scientific field deals with the computational management of all kinds of biological information , whether it may be about genes and their products, whole organisms or even ecological systems. Most of the bioinformatics work that is being done deals can be described as analyzing biological data , although a growing number of projects deal with the organization of biological information As a consequence of the large amount of data produced in the field of molecular biology , most of the current bioinformatics projects deal with structural and functional aspects of genes and proteins . Many of these projects are related to the
