The Divya Desam Shrines of Kerala Temples of Kerala Kerala boasts of a hoary temple tradition. The temples of Kerala - among the best maintained in the subcontinent, are simple in construction, relying greatly on timber - a bounty of the rich forests that adorn this southern state, unlike the collossal granite structures of the neighboring state of Tamilnadu. Historically, there has been a strong link between the two southern states. A good illustration of this link, is the existence of eleven temples in the state, with a strong link with the tamil hymns of three of the Alwar Saints , of the 1st millennium CE. The Alwars: Sri Vaishnavism is one of the pre-eminent traditions of Hinduism. An unbroken lineage of teachers, (the Acharyas) and a wealth of literature in Tamil and in Sanskrit and the

Contact Us Questions and Answers (A garland of Vaishnava Truths) Links Questions and Answers (A garland of Vaishnava Truths) Institute for Gaudiya Vaishnavism A garland of Vaishnava Truths. Q. Who is Bhagavan, the Supreme Personality of Godhead?
    A. Bhagavan is the one Who expands all jivas and all matter by His own inconceivable energy (acintya-sakti), and then enters into thise creations as the Supreme Lord (isvara-svarupa); He also transcendes all souls and matter as the impersonal brahman effulgence (brahma-svarupa), which is far beyond all imagination; and moreover, it is He (Krsna) Who manifests His divine potency (para-sakti) to reveal His form of eternity, knowledge and bliss (sac-cid-ananda-svarupa), thereby becoming the object of devotion for all souls.
    Q. What are the different types of the Lord's potencies?
    A. We are unable to fully describe the Lord's potencies. The reason for this is that His saktis have no boundries, but we have boundaries, therefore, His energies are called para-sakti . This sakti is completely imperceptible to us, but on the other side of the veil of matter, in the divine realm of His para-sakti, all things are accomplished effortlessly. Thus the para-sakti simultaneously conducts the opposing affairs of spirit and matter automatically.
    Q. Then is Bhagavan subordinate to the sakti?

In Gaudiya-Vaishnava philosophy, the story of Sita and Rama is primarily a story of love. Love in the spiritual world exists in innumerable forms. Just as an eskimo has a million words for snow, so the spiritual language of Sanskrit has words describing various nuances of divine love. One such term is viraha bhakti or vipralambha rasa. These terms refer to the love that exists when two personalities are separated. Love in union is exemplified by the relationship of Lakshmi and Narayana. Lakshmi is called Sri and is the embodiment of regulated devotional service. Sita however is known as Bhu. She displays further devotion, for her love extends into the realm of separation. These levels of love extend to degrees which are hardly possible for even a liberated soul. Sri Chaitanya gives a hint about this love in separation: O Govinda! Feeling Your separation, I am experiencing a moment to be like a millenium of more. Tears are flowing from my eyes like torrents of rain and I am feeling all vacant in the world in Your absence. In the spiritual world we hear of these and other unheard of intensities of spiritual love. This is further explained by His Divine Grace Bhaktivedanta

The Ultimate Philosophy of Krishna Consciousness "Philosophy without religion unavoidably leads to dry mental speculation, and religion without philosophy unavoidably leads to sentimentalism and fanaticism". "Science does nor know how we learn and remember, nor how we think and communicate, nor how the brain stores information, nor what the relationship between language and thought is. Science does not know how living cells interactwith nonliving matter. It does not know what the origin of the universe is, norhow old the universe is, not what the ultimate fate of the universe will be."
[Charles M. Vest, professor, president of MIT, in the International Herald Tribune, January 16, 1996, p.8] The timeless wisdom of India is expressed in the Vedas , ancient Sanskrit texts that touch upon all fields of human knowledge. Originally preserved through oral tradition, in this cycle of ages the Vedas were first put into writing 5000 years ago by the great sage Srila Vyasadeva, the "literary incarnation of God." In addition to the compilation of the Vedas the sage also wrote down the Mahabharata , the Upanisads , the Puranas and the Vedanta-sutras As evident from these Vedic scriptures, the knowledge they contain was originally given by the Supreme Personality of Godhead at the beginning of creation. Thereafter it was handed down through the ages in an unbroken chain of spiritual masters, expanded to fit the ever-changing times, places and circumstances, but never altered in essence or conclusion.
