Rosicrucianism Rosicrucianism is a mystical belief system and ideology that pursues spiritual and alchemical goals largely through Occult and Christian Gnostic paths. However, throughout history its endeavors have largely been to gain material power on the material plane, and the deep Gnostic teachings have become twisted.
The core of the Secret Doctrine of Rosicrucianism, or Mystic Christianity , is the pursuit of psychic power to control the mind of one's self and others. Through the control of one's will, one gains the unification of one's psychic energies, although it is accepted that certain negative emotions such as guilt, are the inevitable consequence of attempts to control another human being. However, the doctrine overcomes these human feelings by requiring the student to "polarize themselves at the positive pole of a particular emotional state, and by a process of refusing or denial they manage to escape the effects of the swing of the emotional pendulum to the negative pole."
The philosophy goes so far as to state that there is no difference between these two poles or opposites and thus negativity or darkness can be perceived as positivity and light. The Master has learned to strengthen his own will, and control others, directly through the repression of his emotions. The initiated Rosicrucian therefore looks upon the pain and suffering of the world as being no different from the opposing pole of peace and happiness, and in fact believes that one cannot exist without the other. Thus for peace to exist in one country, war must be raging in another, for wealth and abundance to exist in one region, poverty and famine must exist in another.

Rosicrucianism is a concept that defies sharp or clear definition. Its origins may be similar to that of Freemasonry and the Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, but like these venerable institutions, its true origins are lost in the thick mists of occult history. All that we can say for certain is that certain intriguing "Rosicrucian documents" begin appearing in the early 1600s, but claiming to describe earlier events. Masonry presented an alternative to authoritarian religion based on ritual, the application of philanthropy, and modern scientific thought. Bacon and his initiates used emblems, symbols, unique words and poetry to inspire an enlightened approach to religion based on ancient teachings. Colleen Ralson Pick up almost any magazine or tabloid on the newsstand and there will most likely be a catchy, well-done ad inviting one to write in for a free booklet, Mastery of Life , which outlines why one should become a member of the Rosicrucians, a Fraternal organization that possess secret wisdom that has been passed down orally from past masters. This organization spends over a half million dollars a year advertising for members, both men and women. According to William Poundstone, "The Rosicrucians, (AMORC), have about a hundred lodges in the United States, there are 26 lodges in France, 21 in Brazil, 18 in Nigeria, 13 in Canada and Mexico, 12 in England and 11 in Venezuela, and 8 in Australia," (Bigger Secretsœ, p. 33). They claim not to be a religion, but promises if one becomes a member and learns their philosophy of life and the mysteries of the universe, they can awaken ones natural talents and enable them to lead a fuller and happier life.

Rosicrucianism
Julia Phillips
Esoteric Legend: the Rosicrucians were founded by Pharaoh Thothmes III in the fifteenth century BC. The Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne was said to have founded a Rosicrucian lodge at Toulouse in the 9th century AD, and in 898 AD a second lodge was founded. Around 1000 AD a group of heretical Catholic monks established the first Rosicrucian college which flourished until the 16th century. It has also been claimed that the Brotherhood of the Rose Cross was founded by Templars after their order was disbanded by Pope Clement. Historical story: The Fama Fraternitatis appeared in 1614 (written in 1610), describing the foundation and purpose of the Society (Brotherhood) of the Rose Cross. This related that a Father CRC, born in 1378, a German, poor but from a rich and noble family, made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. He remained at Damascus through ill-health, and studied there. He later traveled to Damcar, where he was trained by the Arabs, and translated the book "M" into the Latin tongue. He then traveled to Fez, and after two years to Spain, where meeting with ridicule, he returned to Germany. After five years he called three of his brethren to him, bound them by an oath, and then founded the "Fraternity of the Rose Cross". They later initiated another four members, and decided to spread the word to other countries. Their by-laws were that they should heal the sick without charge; wear the clothes of the country they visited; every year upon a certain date should meet, or be represented, in the "House of the Holy Spirit"; each should search for a worthy replacement for when he dies; that the letters R.C. would be their mark; that the Order would remain secret for 100 years. It was later also decided that burial places would be kept a secret.

Michael Maier, according to his own statement, first heard of the Rosicrucian brotherhood when in England. Leaving Prague in the spring of 1611, he spent some time in Amsterdam before, we can reckon, arriving in London in the winter of that year. Presumably it was in December 1611 that he wrote the Rosicrucian "greetings card", featuring a rose, which was sent to James I. The wording carries a very strong echo of a powerful speech in the play, The Two Noble Kinsmen , which bears the unmistakable imprint of William Shakespeare's unique poetic talent. This familiarity with the Bard's play is unlikely to have been purely accidental, particularly, as I have shown elsewhere, Maier had a significant connection with Shakespeare's circle of friends.1 The question inevitably arises, therefore, of what clear evidence exists to indicate that the traditional Germanocentric reading of the history of early Rosicrucianism - which depicts the movement as mainly gestating in the strivings of J.V. Andreae's personal circle - oversimplifies the movement's origins to the point of gross distortion? Thynne's manuscripts are numerous, and they reveal a man who not only was a heraldic enthusiast, becoming Lancaster herald, but was an ardent delver into alchemical texts, which exist to this day in the British Library, in Longleat House and in the Ashmole collection in the Bodleian.3 At Longleat are to be found Ripley's

disbanded as soon as the brief occasion for their services had passed. 1 The name, as is well known, comes from the “white rose of York” and the “ red rose of Lancaster”; but these badges, though more or less recognized as party distinctions, by no means superseded the private devices of the various great lords, such as the “falcon and fetterlock” of Richard duke of York, the “rose in sun” of Edward IV., the “crowned swan” of Margaret, the Vere star, and even the revived “white hart “ of Richard II. This was Edward’s last battle. The rest of his eventful reign was similar in many ways to that of his contemporary Louis XI., being devoted to the consolidation of his power, by fair means and foul, at the expense of the great feudatories. But the Wars of the Roses were not yet at an end. For fourteen years, except for local outbreaks, the land had peace, and then Richard III.’s crown, struck from his head on Bosworth Field (Aug. 22, 1485), was presented to Henry earl of Richmond, who, as Henry VII., established the kingship on a secure foundation. A last feeble attempt to renew the war, made by an army gathered to uphold the pretender Lambert Simnel, was crushed by Henry VII. at Stoke Field (~ m. S.W. of Newark) on. the 16th of June 1487. ROSEWOOD, the name given to several distinct kinds’ of ornamental timber. That, however, so called in the United Kingdom is Brazilian rosewood, the palissandre of the French, the finest qualities of which, coming from the provinces of Rio de Janeiro and Bahia, are believed to be the produce principally of Dalbergia nigra, a leguminous tree of large dimensions
