GLOSSARY
Absolute Sedevacantist
A sedevacantist who believes that all authority has been lost by the leader of the Vatican institution, along with his cardinals and bishops.
Aggiornamento
A word used by John XXIII to describe what he intended to do to the Church, namely to bring it up to date (as if the Church were not eternally new already).
Apostolic Visitor
A personal representative of the pope who visits a seminary, religious order, or diocese in order to make an inspection of it and report back to the pope. Such visitors often wield a considerable authority with the seminary, religious order, or diocese they visit, greater than that of the applicable Bishop or Superior General.
Cassiciacum Thesis
A claim that the man elected to lead the Vatican institution might be materially a pope, but not formally so, otherwise known as sedevacantism of the Materialiter/Formaliter variety.
Celebret
the formal and proper name of the permission given to a diocesan priest to say the Indult Mass. In a few early cases, Cardinal Mayer even granted celebrets to diocesan priests who had in effect gone over their bishop's head.
CMRI
An Acronym for the Congregatio Mariae Reginae Immaculatae, which is Latin for the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen. In this book, and in nearly all traditional Catholic writings, it refers to the priestly society founded in 1971 by Francis Shuckardt and which was run by him until his expulsion in 1984, after which various other priests and bishops have operated from their facility in Spokane, Washington known as Mount Saint Michael's. about communion on the tongue
REJOICE eternally, most precious body of God, in perpetual honor, continuous victory, and eternal power, with your Father and the Holy Ghost, with the Virgin Mary, your most worthy Mother, and with all the court of heaven! Praise to you, Eternal God, and infinite thanksgiving, because you were pleased to become a man, and you have willed that bread be transubstantiated into your body, through your holy words, and you have given it as meat, through an overabundance of love, for the salvation of our souls!
Once it occurred to a person deeply engaged in prayer, to hear a voice saying to her: "You, to whom it has been granted to hear and to see spiritual things, listen now to what I want to reveal to you regarding this archbishop who stated that if he were the pope, he would grant license to all priests to marry, believing and thinking that this would be more pleasing to God than to see so many priests leading such dissolute lives. He further said that, if they married, they would avoid so many sins of the flesh. And even if he had not understood the will of God in all this, he was nonetheless a friend of God. Now I am about to declare to you the will of God in this matter, because I personally gave birth to God, and you will let your archbishop know this, as you address him in the following terms:
But after the priests of old had followed this observance for some time, God, through an outpouring of his Spirit, inspired the pope in his heart, to decree that henceforth the priests who consecrate the precious body of Jesus Christ, should no longer marry or enjoy the base delights of the flesh. And from then on, through a divine order, and a just judgment of God, it was justly decreed that priests should live in chastity and continence of the flesh, failing which they would be damned and excommunicated before God, and would deserve to be removed from the priestly position. However, those who would make true amends, with firm resolve to sin no more, would obtain God's mercy.

84. Canon Of The Old Testament
A look at how catholics arrived at the current collection of old Testament books.

Canon of The Old Testament
by W. Hartono
Most of us take it for granted to have a copy of Bible and do not bother to know how we got it. The question how the list of Old Testament books was determined hardly comes to our mind, until some of our non-Catholic friends pointed to us the difference in number of books between our Old Testament and theirs. Catholic Old Testament is longer by seven books: Tobith, Judith, Baruch (with letter of Jeremiah Sirach (or Ecclesiasticus Wisdom and 1 and 2 Maccabees . It has also extra chapters and verses in Daniel and Esther. The total number of Catholic Old Testament books is 46 (or 45 if we combine Jeremiah and Lamentation) while that of Protestant is 39. Based on this difference, they may also accuse that Catholic Church added those seven books in sixteenth century at Council of Trent. Hence a knowledge of historical background of our Old Testament is necessary to really understand the matter. During Jesus time, the Jews did not officially have a list of inspired books or canon. The word "canon" comes from Greek "kanon" meaning a measuring rod. The Hebrew speaking Jews in Palestine are generally known to use 24 books which they divided in three divisions: the Law (5 books of Moses or Pentateuch); the Prophets (4 former and 4 latter prophets) and the Writings (11 books). The Sadducees most likely did not accept Daniel as Dan 12:2 supports resurrection which they denied (Mark 12:18). Others like

It will serve now to list in comparable columns the canons of the Old Testament as accepted by both Roman Catholics and Protestant Evangelicals. Jews have the same canon as Protestants. The lists are divided into the groups as taught by the respective faith groups. The books with asterisks are those of the Roman Catholic canon which are considered canonical, but are labeled apocryphal by Protestants and Evangelicals.

Is it possible?
Can a catholic priest have a "civil job", and can he have a family?
Of course! For there doesn't exist one catholic church only, like many people think.
Catholic diocese of the Old-Catholics in Germany origin name spreading features ... contacts "Old-Catholics"? What are they? There is only one Christian church, but it is comprised of many local churches, which are also called "dioceses", "Landeskirche" etc., in short "churches".
Most churches have a bishop at their head, stand alone and independently of one another, as for example the Protestant, Anglican and Orthodox churches.
The bishops of the Roman catholic dioceses, however, recognise the leadership of the pope in Rome.
Most catholic dioceses in Germany are named after the town where the bishop has his seat, as for example Magdeburg, Berlin, Erfurt. - It is less well known that besides these, there exists a diocese of Old-Catholics in Germany as well. On the picture from left to right:

by Randall Miller and Jon L. Wakelyn, editors
Treating Southern Catholicism in functional and symbolic terms and relating it to the culture of the region, this study indeed represents a pioneering effort, a comprehensive examination of what it was like to be a Catholic in the slaveholding, predominantly Protestant South. In the editor's introduction (Miller) and afterword (Wakelyn), they provide an incisive overview of a heretofore neglected field.

Just for Catholics Unfortunately, many people who become Jehovah's Witnesses as adults were at one time practicing Catholics. As a result, there are many Catholics who find themselves in the position of having to explain and defend Catholic beliefs to their relative or friend who has become a Jehovah's Witness. If you are a Catholic who finds yourself in this situation, or if you are a Jehovah's Witness who was at one time a practicing Catholic, and would like to know why the Catholic Church teaches some of the things that they do, then this web page is for you. Below is a brief discussion of 12 topics that a Catholic may encounter in a discussion with a Jehovah's Witness. 1) The Catholic Church and the Bible

New Testament:

The New Testament contains 27 books and includes the 4 Gospels, the Acts of the Apostles, the Epistles or Letters, and the book of Revelation. The books of the New Testament include the following:
  • Gospel of Matthew - Written by Matthew the Apostle between 80-100AD.
  • Gospel of Mark - Written around 70AD and felt to have been the first Gospel written.

Old Ignace and Friends:
Native American Witnesses to our Holy Catholic Faith
Many thanks to Nancy Nicholson for sharing this story!     Have you ever thought of being a missionary priest or sister? Did you know that you don't have to wait until you are grown up, or in the religious life, to be a missionary witness to Jesus Christ and His Church? This is the story of Old Ignace and other faithful Iroquois Catholics, their friend Father Pierre De Smet, and the wonderful way that they brought the Faith to other Native Americans, while being Catholic witnesses to white trappers and settlers as well.     Thanks to the earlier Canadian missionary efforts of St. Isaac Jogues and others, a large number of the Iroquois tribe was Catholic; Old Ignace La Mouse probably learned his faith as he grew up near Montreal, in the same area that Bl. Kateri Tekakwitha had lived in the previous century.     There, surrounded by French Canadian and Native American fur trappers, Old Ignace also embraced this livelihood, and was among those Iroquois Catholics who became valued members of furtrading expeditions, not only because of their skill in navigating heavily-laden canoes through often treacherous rivers, but for their honesty and reliability. Daily living their faith, it was not unusual for the Indians to be heard singing religious songs to the rhythm of their dipping paddles as they traveled the dangerous waters alongside French-Canadian trappers.     The fur-trading expeditions of Old Ignace eventually led him and twenty-three other Canadian Iroquois to settle in Montana, where they were accepted by, and married into, the Flathead tribe. In their new home, they continued to be a witness to their Catholic Faith, teaching the receptive Flatheads about Our Lord and His Church. Through Old Ignace, the tribe learned the Sign of the Cross and many other prayers, to keep Sunday as the Lord's Day, and to baptize those in danger of death.

THE HEARTLAND OLD CATHOLIC CHURCH
THE LORD BE WITH YOU
The Heartland Old Catholic Church was founded for the purpose of establishing and supporting Ecumenical Catholic Communities primarily throughout the central region of the United States. Our mission is rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church strives to provide an affirming, evangelical, and sacramental presence to all in their diversity; and therefore, we are called to ministries that are loving, inclusive, and justice bearing. We join with other Ecumenical Catholic Churches in accomplishing this mission.
THE CHURCH
The Liturgy (The Mass) is our supreme act of communal worship. It was given its form by the Apostles, and continued by the universal Church. From the earliest beginnings of the Christian Church there were variations in the manner in which the Eucharist was celebrated in the regional churches. Within these churches, with their mixed populations, differing historic development, local traditions, diverse racial temperaments, and the like, it was inevitable that a large number of different types of Eucharistic prayers should emerge. The unity of the Church of Christ and the unity of the Eucharistic Sacrifice did not require uniformity in the celebration of that Sacrifice. Accordingly, the Heartland Old Catholic Church enables congregations under the direction of their pastor and bishop to select the liturgy best suited to their needs from those authorized for use in its churches.
