Our Mission Statement: Top As empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to make disciples of all nations by evangelizing the unreached and teaching Christians to obey everything Christ commanded. The Evangelical Free Church of America, or EFCA, is an association of some 1,100 autonomous churches united by a mutual commitment to serve our Lord Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and obedience to the Word of God. We are committed to cooperate with one another in ministry and fellowship as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission which Christ has entrusted to His Church. The growing ministry of the EFCA currently extends to some 17 nations of the world encompassing nearly 1,000 additional congregations. The term “Evangelical” refers to our commitment to the proclamation of the Gospel and to the authority of Scriptures as being inerrant in the original autographs and the only safe and sufficient guide to faith and practice. The term “Free” refers to our form of church government which assures that our local churches are free from a central controlling body. Evangelical Free Churches depend upon the active participation of pastors and lay people in the decisions and directions of the local church.

Statement of Faith of The Evangelical Free Church of America
The doctrinal position of The Evangelical Free Church of America is summarized in our twelve-article Statement of Faith. We Believe:
  • The Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for the salvation of men and the Divine and final authority for Christian faith and life.
  • In one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • That Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He died on the cross, a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He is now our High Priest and Advocate.
  • That the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and, during this age, to convict men, regenerate the believing sinner, and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for godly living and service.

    A Smorgasbord of Heresy
    - The Bible teaches that we are to test all teachings (I John 4:1,6), expose those teachings that are false (Eph 5:11), confront and rebuke the false teachers (Titus 1:9,13), and then separate from those who persist in false teaching (Romans 16:17; Titus 3:10), lest in the end, we are disqualified for service (II Timothy 2:20,21), or worse yet, we are identified with the false teachings and the false teachers themselves (2 John 10,11). But E-Free denomination leaders, rather than separating, have instead chosen to identify with a wide range of false teachings and false teachers. In fact in some cases, E-Free institutions and spokespersons have become the leading forces in espousing and implementing false doctrine!
    - A smorgasbord is a buffet meal featuring a varied number of dishes a kind of "something for everyone" approach to dining out. By that definition, a veritable "smorgasbord" of false doctrines is readily available at EFCA's headquarters, in its educational institutions, and throughout its member churches. Some of the unbiblical programs, concepts, and/or teachings are: general psychology self-love/self-esteem codependency/recovery demonization of believers , the non-material resurrection of the believer, ecumenism with Catholicism , progressive creationism/theistic evolution, "church growth" philosophies

"In essentials, unity. In non-essentials, charity. In all things, Jesus Christ." Chrysostom The Evangelical Free Church of America is inclusive not exclusive.
The great heritage of the Evangelical Free Church people around the world includes the fact that fellowship and ministry opportunities in the local church are based solely on one's personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, trusting in Him alone for salvation. Membership requires commitment to sound doctrine as expressed in our Statement of Faith. However, a person is not excluded from membership because he or she does not agree on every fine point of doctrine. Within the Evangelical Free Church, there is allowance for legitimate differences of understanding in some areas of doctrine.
The Evangelical Free Church is evangelical but not separatistic.
The Evangelical Free Church was born out of a heritage of commitment to the authority and inerrancy of Scripture. We have deep convictions based on the authority of God's Word, but we do not draw battle lines over minor points. Nor do we make minor issues of doctrine a test of fellowship in the local church. We are evangelical. We believe in separated living and personal holiness. But we are not separatistic.
The Evangelical Free Church of America is ecumenical in spirit though not in structure.

A Short History Of First Evangelical Free Church
The First Evangelical Free Church of St. Louis County was born on June 19, l983 with a worship service at the rented facilities of Des Peres Presbyterian Church. However, the church was conceived about six months earlier when five families started meeting on Sunday evenings for fellowship and mutual accountability. They became convinced that a new church was needed in West County. These families were originally from different denominational backgrounds, but had in common a desire for warm Christian fellowship and sound biblical teaching, without the doctrinal rigidity that characterizes some conservative churches. One of the first decisions this new family of believers made was to connect with a larger body of Christians. After studying and interviewing several denominations, they chose to cast their lot with the Evangelical Free Church of America. The church was commissioned in the Great Lakes District on July 17, l983. In July of l984, when the church was some 13 months old and had grown to about 55 in regular attendance, Michael P. Andrus was called as the first pastor. He had been serving the First Evangelical Free Church in Wichita, Kansas, for the previous ten years and shared the same heart for church planting the St. Louis church leaders had. By the time Pastor Andrus arrived in late October, l984, two things happenedthe church doubled in attendance to about 110 and it moved from Des Peres Presbyterian to Sanford-Brown Business College on Manchester.
