JAKOB BOEHME
(9th Edition of The Encyclopaedia Britannica - Vol. III, 1878) BOEHME, Jakob Boehme's authorship began in his 37th year (1612) with a treatise, Morgen Rothe im Auffgang Der Weg zu Christo , was the signal for renewed clerical hostility. Boehme had by this time entered on the third and most prolific though the shortest period (1623-4) of his speculation. His labours at the desk were interrupted in May 1624 by a summons to Dresden, where his famous "colloquy" with the Upper Consistorial Court was made the occasion of a flattering but transient ovation on the part of a new circle of admirers. Richter died in August 1624, and Boehme did not long survive his pertinacious foe. Seized with a fever when away from home, he was with difficulty conveyed to Gorlitz. His wife was at Dresden on business; and during the first week of his malady he was nursed by a literary friend. He died, after receiving the rites of the church, grudgingly administered by the authorities, on Sunday, 17th November. Clerical ill-will followed him to the grave, and the malice of the vulgar defaced his monument. Ungrund or Urgrund , whence issue all contrasts and discordant principles, hardness and softness, severity and mildness, sweet and bitter, love and sorrow, heaven and hell. These he " saw " in their origin; these he attempted to describe in their issue, and to reconcile in their eternal result. He saw into the being of God; whence the birth or going forth of the divine manifestation. Nature lay unveiled to him, he was at home in the heart of things. " His own book, which he himself was," the microcosm of man, with his threefold life, was patent to his vision. Such was his own account of his qualification. If he failed it was in expression; he confessed himself a poor mouthpiece, though he saw with a sure spiritual eye.

Jacob Boehme
Biographical summary.
Jacob Boehme, beyond a doubt, is one of the greatest of Christian Gnostics. I am using the word not in the sense of the so-called heretics of the opening centuries of the Christian era, but to indicate a wisdom grounded in revelation and employing myths and symbols rather than concepts - a wisdom much more contemplative than discursive. Such is religous philosophy, or theosophy.
The spark that ignated Boehme environment was provided with the arrival of Martin Moller, who came to the city as a Lutherian pastor in 1600. He immediately organized a " Conventicle of God's Real Servant " as a tentative to reintroduce in the rather dry presentation of lutherianism at the time; personal renewal, individual spiritual growth and religious experience. Boehme, awakened in the revival, joined. Later in 1600, Boehme experienced his first great vision. He began to write, and in 1912 finished his Aurora. One of Boehme's associates made copies of this book and circulated them. In 1613 one of the copies fell into the hands of Martin Moller's successor: the chief Pastor Gregory Richter, who in addition to his concern for the defense of the Lutherian orthodoxy had personal reasons for attacking Boehme. He had Boehme's books confiscated and on July 30, 1613, its author was banned from further writings.
Boehme ceased writing for a "sabbath of years" as he described it. In January 1619, after another illumination that once more incited his prophetic spirit, he broke his silence and wrote practically without interruption from 1619 to 1623. The enthousiasm of his disciples had its effect and, as rumours of the circle grew, Richter became enraged again. The authorities did not know of the works written since 1619 and supposed that to that date Boehme had maintained silence.

The Scholar asked his Master, saying
Whither goeth the Soul when the Body dieth?
His master answered him;
There is no Necessity for it to go any whither.
What not! said the inquisitive Junius:
Must not the Soul leave the Body at Death, and go either to Heaven or Hell?

alors en elle retournera la Sophia. jacob boehme, Mysterium Magnum.
http://jm.saliege.com/boehme.htm

Post-Enlightenment Mystics: Jacob Boehme *Preached at Grace North Church September 30th, 2001 by Rev. John R. Mabry, PhD.* As most of you know, I spent my high school years as part of a fundamentalist church, an experience that wounded me significantly. No doubt I, in turn, wounded several others in service of this church and its monstrous god. I am not proud of that; I am only grateful that, fundamentalists though they are, my parents recognized that this church was so wacky it was unhealthy, and put in for a transfer to Benicia, California, to pry my sister and I from its clutches. I was deeply wounded by this experience, as I said; so wounded, in fact, that not long after we moved I renounced my faith, my allegiance to the god of my parents, and everything to do with the church. Of course, what this did was to leave me feeling even more acutely the spiritual vacuum in my life. Fundamentalism, I found out, could not quench my soul's thirst; and neither, as I quickly discovered, could sex, or drugs, or even rock-n-roll (although if anything came close, rock-n-roll did). And so it was that I found myself on my knees in my girlfriend's parking lot at four in the morning, blind stinking drunk, raging at the sky like King Lear in the storm. In the midst of my alcoholic, existential funk, I cursed the god of my parents, and pleaded with the universe, that if there were any REAL god, that he might be made known to me. Be careful what you ask for. 24 hours later I was speeding towards Disneyland with my girlfriend, Cherrisa, my best friend Bob, and his girlfriend, Sherry.

GREAT THEOSOPHISTS
J ACOB B OEHME
JACOB BOEHME was born in the little village of Alt Seidenburg, near Goerlitz, in 1575. Although his Theosophical co-workers, Giordano Bruno and Robert Fludd, incarnated in families of wealth and distinction, Boehme was the son of poor German peasants. It would be useless to speculate about the complications of Karma which led him into a life filled with such apparent obstacles. The point to be observed is that he turned his difficulties into opportunities for growth, and, as Mr. Judge says, "There can be no manner of doubt about his succeeding incarnation. As Krishna says in the Bhagavad-Gita, he has been or will shortly be 'born into a family of wise devotees,' and thence 'he will attain the highest walk.'" It is quite evident that Jacob Boehme grasped the fundamental truths of the ancient Wisdom-Religion without being able to express them in a clear and lucid form. His Theosophical knowledge, however, did not come to him through books, for, although he learned to read and write, his education stopped at that point. This, however, did not keep the knowledge he had acquired in past lives from welling into his mind. Nor did it prevent the living Guardians of eternal Truth from aiding him and using him as their agent. H.P.B. calls him the "nursling of the Nirmanakayas This attitude, firmly and consistently maintained, brought about his first "illumination," and for seven days he was in a state of "ecstasy." During those days much of the knowledge he had gained in former lives returned to him. He realized that duty, well-performed, is the highest form of Yoga, and began to apply his knowledge in the humble tasks of his every day life, becoming, as a result, an excellent shoemaker. At the age of nineteen his apprenticeship ended, and he became a journeyman shoemaker. When he was twenty-one he married a simple peasant girl, and from their union four sons were born, each of whom followed his father's profession.
