Nobel Peace Prize
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. The Nobel Peace Prize is one of five Nobel Prizes bequested by the Swedish industrialist and inventor Alfred Nobel . Four of the five prizes are awarded in Stockholm each year, but Nobel had stipulated in his will that the Peace Prize could not be awarded in Sweden. Instead the Norwegian capital of Oslo was chosen as the award site and a Norwegian Nobel Prize Committee is appointed to select the laureate for the Peace Prize. According to the will of Alfred Nobel the prize should be awarded "to the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between the nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congresses".

Quotes by subject: Democracy "Despotism does not cease to be despotism because it is elective. Nor does despotism become agreeable because the Despots belong to our own kindred. To make it subject to election is no guarantee against despotism. The real guarentee against despotism is to confront it with the possibility of its dethronement, of its being laid low, of its being superseeded by a rival party." Bhimrao Ramji AMBEDKAR
Indian statesman and social reformer (1891-1956)
"When a nation's government becomes more fearful of its citizens' rights than protective of them, that nation's future is only despotism and extinction." ANONYMOUS
"Freedom is when the people can speak, democracy is when the government listens." Alastair FARRUGIA
"The job of a citizen is to keep his mouth open." Günther GRASS
German novelist and Nobel Prize winner (1927-)
"Truth is not determined by majority vote." Doug GWYN
"The greatest fallacy of democracy is that everyone's opinion is worth the same." Robert Anson HEINLEIN
American science fiction writer (1907-88)
"Democracy is not something you believe in or a place to hang your hat, but it's something you do. You participate. If you stop doing it, democracy crumbles."
