A ThinkQuest Internet Challenge 2000 Entry
Click image for the Site Languages : Site Desciption Physical Reality is an interactive web site designed to get students interested in physics by showing them how fascinating it really is! It teaches quantum physics and relativity, subjects often thought to be too difficult to understand, in a down to earth and interesting way. One can also learn about other cool physics phenomena and the history and people behind the science. It allows high school level physics students to communicate questions and knowledge in a context-sensitive way, and provides them with hands-on illustrations of the subject at hand. Physical Reality's philosophy: if you are interested in it, you'll WANT to learn more!

This isn't humour, but I didn't know where else to put it.
Today, at a time when fundamentalist Islamic extremism is affecting so much of our world, I think it's interesting to note the statistical difference between Arabs and Jews shown below. I think that if the fanatics spent less time on politics and religion, and more on 'useful endeavours' (lots of room for discussion here!), it would be a good thing for their people and for everyone. As it is, they have only managed to accomplish a lot of chanting and rocking about ARAB/ISLAMIC NOBEL WINNERS JEWISH NOBEL WINNERS 19.6% of World's Population

Albert Michelson: The pioneer of interferometry Albert Abraham Michelson was born on December 19, 1852 in Strelno, Prussia (today Strzelno, Poland). He came to the United States with his parents when he was two years old. From New York, the family made its way to Virginia City, Nevada and San Francisco. At 17, Michelson entered the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and graduated in 1873. Early on Michelson was fascinated with the sciences and the problem of measuring the speed of light in particular. After two years of studies in Europe he resigned from the navy in 1881 and set out to determine the speed of light with an unprecedented accuracy using his interferometer. His value remained the best for a generation and when it was improved, Michelson was the one who did it. In 1883 he accepted a position as professor of physics at the Case School of Applied Science in Cleveland and concentrated on improving his interferometer. By 1887 with the help of his colleague Edward Williams Morley he conducted what was to be known as the Michelson-Morley experiment. Their experiment showed that there was no significant motion of the Earth relative to the ether, the hypothetical medium in which light waves were supposed to travel. This result later became the foundation of Einstein's Theory of Relativity. After serving as professor at Clark University at Worcester, Massachusetts from 1889, in 1892 Michelson was appointed professor and the first head of the department of physics at the newly organized University of Chicago. In 1907 Michelson became the first American to receive a Nobel prize in physics.

1907 First American Nobel Prize Winner in Science from University of Chicago
Albert Abraham Michelson (1852-1931), one of the world's most distinguished physicists, became head of the physics department at the University of Chicago in 1892 and held that post until he retired in 1929. In 1907 he won the Nobel prize in physics for his optical instruments of precision and the spectroscopic and metrological investigations which he carried out by means of them. He was the first American scientist to receive the honor. A Chronological History of Chicago: 1673-
