Date: Thu May 10 2001 - 15:05:01 MDT We are developing computational models of primate visual cortex based on
the properties of two-dimensional arrays of interconnected model neurons
and multiple layers of such arrays. These models are designed to mimic
the anatomy and functioning of visual cortex as closely as practical and
to make predictions of observable phenomena via psychophysical,
electrophysiological, and fMRI techniques. Experiments being planned
now will involve the new Berkeley Brain Imaging Center with its 4-Tesla
fMRI system in studying patterns of cortical excitation resulting from
various visual stimuli. Psychophysical experiments to test our models
will continue in our own laboratory. Candidates will be expected to perform some combination of analysis

The Nobel Laureates and JFK I'm going to end with a number of remarks about people. In November 1955 we had a visit from the famous Otto Hahn, the discoverer of nuclear fission, for which he received a Nobel Prize in 1944. Ghiorso, Seaborg and Otto Hahn, University of California, Berkeley.
Now I'm going to mention at random a few interesting things. In 1962, March 23, Charter Day, President John Kennedy visited the Radiation Laboratory. Helen and I flew back with him on Air Force One, and here we are entering building 70A. Here's Governor Pat Brown, along with Kennedy and me, and Ed McMillan. Glenn T. Seaborg and John F. Kennedy at LBL. Edwin M. McMillan, Edward Teller, Glenn T. Seaborg, John F. Kennedy and Pat Brown visit LBL. Here are the Lab directors, Norris Bradbury, the Director of Los Alamos; John Foster of Livermore; Ed McMillan, Director of Lawrence Berkeley Lab; myself; John Kennedy; Edward Teller; Bob McNamara; and Harold Brown, who was the Director of Defense Research and Engineering. Bob McNamara, of course, Secretary of Defense. President John F. Kennedy (JFK) visiting AEC-supported Lawrence Radiation Laboratory (LRL) on March 23, 1963. Report

You are to write a report about a famous Scientist, create a poster to give an oral report by using the materials obtained in the library, at home or from the public library. Requirements:
    • You must turn in a 1-2 page handwritten or typed report about a famous scientist from the list I have. You must present your findings in an oral report. You will need to make a Personality Poster that you can use in your oral report. If you would like to bring in a model of their invention instead of a poster, that would be fine. The Personality Poster should visually show what the scientist contributed to science. Your report must contain an Introduction, Body, and Conclusion. You must have three sources for the information you collect. This must be organized in you OWN words. You may use the school library, public library, Internet, books, magazines, or other published material. You must give credit to your sources (Bibliography) in the style as shown in class.
This is the list of Scientists, and a place on the Internet to find some information about them. Remember to use THREE different sources. Only one Internet source and two others.
Here are a list of possible scientists.....
