In particular, it provides family tree information, articles, old family letters, and photographs of descendants of John Strawbridge, born about 1715 in northern Ireland, who emigrated to Maryland, USA, about 1752 and died there in 1768 or thereabouts. The Rusks From Ireland This data base consists of approximately 252 Rusk descendants of John Rusk who was born about 1750 in Ulster Ireland, and immigrated to the United States in 1791. While some of the information came from personal acquaintances, most came from published documents and other Rusks I have contacted over the years. I am a descendant of John Rusk through his son, David Rusk (b. abt. 1820 in Clemson, South Carolina). David and his brother, Thomas Jefferson Rusk, both fought in the Battle of San Jacinto against the Mexican Army for Texas's Independence from Mexico in 1836. My father was William Carl Rusk (b. 4/8/1912, d. 6/14/1978); my grandfather was William Henry Rusk (b. 9/11/1885, d. 5/10/1982); my g-grandfather was David Franklin Rusk (b. 7/25/1852, d. 12/24/1911); my gg-grandfather was David Rusk (b. abt. 1820). David was T. J. Rusk's brother. I was born 1/5/1940 in Wills Point, Texas (about 50 miles east of Dallas) and now live in Richardson, Texas. Polls predict it will pass, and clearly this will mean an historic breakthrough for the province and the best chance of peace for thirty years. George Negus follows the campaigns of the major players in the north prior to the referendum.The battle for the Unionist vote will be fought between the mainstream Ulster Unionists, led by David Trimble, who support the deal, and the Democratic Unionist Party, led by Ian Paisley, who maintains his passion against any deal with the Republicans. On the republican side the deal is a personal triumph for the leader of the SDLP, John Hume, who for the last thirty years has pursued a non-violent, negotiated settlement. This has often cost him the support of many in the Republican camp who have drifted to the hard line pursued by Sinn Fein, led by Gerry Adams. SAINT PATRICK APOSTLE OF IRELAND—389-461 Feast: March 17 The field of St. Patrick's labors was the most remote part of the then known world. The seed he planted in faraway Ireland, which before his time was largely pagan, bore a rich harvest: whole colonies of saints and missionaries were to rise up after him to serve the Irish Church and to carry Christianity to other lands. Whether his birthplace, a village called Bannavem Taberniae, was near Dunbarton-on-the-Clyde, or in Cumberland, or at the mouth of the Severn, or even in Gaul near Boulogne, has never been determined, and indeed the matter is of no great moment. We know of a certainty that Patrick was of Romano-British origin, and born about the year 389. His father, Calpurnius, was a deacon, his grandfather a priest, for at this time no strict law of celibacy had been imposed on the Christian clergy. Patrick's own full name was probably Patricius Magonus Sucatus. At length he heard a voice in his sleep bidding him to get back to freedom and the land of his birth. Thus prompted, he ran away from his master and traveled to a harbor where a ship was about to depart. The captain at first refused his request for passage, but after Patrick had silently prayed to God, the pagan sailors called him back, and with them he made an adventurous journey. They were three days at sea, and when they reached land they traveled for a month through an uninhabited tract of country, where food was scarce. Patrick writes: "And one day the shipmaster said to me: 'How is this, O Christian? Thou sayest that thy God is great and almighty; wherefore then canst thou not pray for us, for we are in danger of starvation? Likely we shall never see a human being again.' Then I said plainly to them: 'Turn in good faith and with all your heart to the Lord my God, to whom nothing is impossible, that this day He may send you food for your journey, until ye be satisfied, for He has abundance everywhere.' And, by the help of God, so it came to pass. Lo, a herd of swine appeared in the way before our eyes, and they killed many of them. And in that place they remained two nights; and they were well refreshed and their dogs were sated, for many of them had fainted and been left half- dead by the way. After this they rendered hearty thanks to God, and I became honorable in their eyes; and from that day they had food in abundance."

Ballarat Bunbury Geelong Geraldton ... Our Symbol The Sisters of St John of God The Congregation of the Sisters of St John of God was originally founded in Ireland in 1871, at a time of great need. Hunger and famine were rife and there was much oppression and suffering. It was in this atmosphere of poverty and distress that Thomas Furlong, the Bishop of Ferns, County Wexford, helped institute an Order of Nursing Sisters to meet the needs of the starving and degraded people of his diocese. Sister Visitation, born Brigid Clancy, along with five other Irish Sisters, responded to the Bishop's plea to minister to the sick and destitute of his region. They arrived in Wexford on 7 October 1871 and this became "Foundation Day" for the Sisters of St John of God. In 1895, at the request of Bishop Matthew Gibney of Perth, eight Sisters answered the call to bring their nursing skills to Australia to care for the many victims of typhoid and other diseases in Western Australia. These women who we now refer to as our "Pioneer Sisters" formed a very talented and courageous group of women. At the time of their arrival in Australia they were aged from 21 - 34 years and all were women of deep spirituality and personal faith in Jesus Christ.
