Jeremy Piven Wade's Rant: Jeremy Piven never gets the credit he deserves.  He has a small cult type following, but most everybody else never notices him.  I think that sucks.  I first noticed him in "PCU" it's a great flick.  Many people probably know him from "Ellen," but he's also been in a lot of supporting roles where he was in the shadow of bigger stars.  "Judgement Night," "Grosse Point Blank," "Heat," "Very Bad Things."  Which sucks.  Now he has his "own" sit-com, "Cupid" I haven't seen it, I can't even find it.  But I don't watch too much TV anymore.  So what the hell channel is it on?   He's a great actor, and needs to get a good role, so more people know of him. His parents were actors who still run a theatre school in Evanston, which was attended by John and Joan Cusack. After starting a theatre company with John, Jeremy eventually made his way to Hollywood after winning a part in Carol Burnett's short-lived comedy sketch show, Proficiencies: Slightly dumb but good-hearted best friends. Where You've Seen Him: Appearing for three seasons as roommate Spence on the TV show Ellen ; starring in his own television series, Cupid , in 1998. Where He'll Be Next: Appearing this fall in Serendipity , a romantic comedy starring John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale. Jeremy Piven seems like such a nice guy. He's my first choice for "person in Hollywood I'd most like to have at my next party," since his on-screen persona is not only sweet, but pretty darn funny. Like most great supporting actors, Jeremy has a way of injecting sub-par material with actual bright spots, and often steals the show. Raised in Evanston, Illinois, along with good friend John Cusack. Piven has one sister Shira, a director in New York. Piven's parents founded the Chicago-based Piven Theatre Workshop in 1971. Jeremy studied improvisational theater at his parents' workshop.He attended Drake University and later earnined his degree from New York University, Piven eventually went on to get intensive Shakespearean training at Britain's National Theatre. He was one semester away from his college diploma, he says, when he "...started getting gigs." ,/center> Jeremy and John Cusack founded the New Criminals Theater Company in Chicago, an experimental troupe whos productions were performed in a brash style. Says Piven, "Unless an entire row of people got up in the middle of a performance and left the theater in disgust, I felt as though I hadn't done my job." In the troupe's first production, written by Tim Robbins and directed by Cusack, "I was the Wild Man of Borneo in the sideshow, but I played him as a really bad poet who got really drunk and would try to inflict his bad poetry on people," says Piven. "And I just found the need to run into the audience and straddle this gentleman's head." After the cancellation of "Ellen", Piven was offered several new projects, of which he said he felt "...like prom queen for three minutes!". Piven is the executive producer of ABC TV's "Cupid", airing Saturdays at 10 PM EST and playing "Trevor Hale", a man who thinks he's the Roman god of love. After he's released from a mental institution, he tries to convince his skeptical shrink — played by Paula Marshall — of his divine nature by helping lonely hearts find romance. "There's such a great duality: Is he Cupid, or is he insane?" says Piven. "If you can't make that part interesting, there's something wrong with you. You should just go into puppeteering and get it over with."
