After a hearty breakfast and some studying of the Late Show trivia cheat sheats that Steve made up, we were on our way into the city. Parked the car at about 10:45 am, and started walking over to 53rd and Broadway to the Ed Sullivan Theater. Right at 11 am we both got out our cell phones and started bombarding the standby ticket phone number hoping to get through. After about 8 minutes Steve let me know that he got through and he handed me his cheat sheet to hold in front of him in case the question was difficult. Low and behold they asked him the easiest question ever, "Who is Rupert Jee?". For those who don't know, he is the owner of the Hello Deli. So thanks to that easy question, we were numbers 10 and 11 in the standby line for the second taping!!! So now we made our way back over to behind the theater and got our spots by where the band comes in. Once again, we were hanging out with some really cool PJ fans and had some great conversations about RIOT ACT, previous tours, and what the PJ future may hold. At about 1:45, my trivia answer Biff Henderson came out to smoke a cigarette and told us that PJ should be arriving at about 2:15 or so.

WE SAW THE LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN In December 1994 we heard that the 'Late Show with David Letterman' would be broadcast from London, for a week, during May 1995. We asked those nice people at the Late Show for a pair of tickets. They, kindly, sent two tickets to the Wednesday May, 17 1995 taping, however we were in Florida until the day before. We got home about lunchtime on the Tuesday, after flying overnight. We then had to get up early on the Wednesday morning, drive to the train station, about 20 miles, and get a train to London. The train journey is three and a half hours long hours and got us to London in time for Lunch. At the time, Nicky was only 6 months old and we had arranged for Helen's parents to come and baby sit him for the day. Of course we had never left him for any length of time before and so we just went down to London, had lunch, got on the tube to the London Studios and got our tickets numbered. We then just went and had a coffee and waited to go back and stand in line for over an hour. Guests on the show were Peter O'Toole, Van Morrison, Sinead O'Connor and the Chieftains. Ed Asner did a quick walk on and David Duchovny, who was scheduled, got bumped due to over run with Peter O'Toole. David Duchovny did make it on to the big show the following night though. While we were waiting to go into the London Studios, a big black limo arrived with Van Morrison in the back. We were allowed into the Studio at about 5.15. A warm up man told us what not to do if a camera was pointed at us, and they played a tape of some of the outside broadcast stuff that Dave and Paul had done the last time they were in L.A. At about 5.20 the band were introduced, one by one, with Paul coming on last. They played a couple of songs and then, unannounced, Dave walks on and says "Hi, thanks for coming, great to be in London, I'll be right back", and walks off again.
