Robert Forster: Stockholm Gino's, 13th September 1994 Review by Stefan Warnqvist Robert Forster played in Stockholm a few days ago (13th September) and this is how it went... I arrived to the venue about an hour before it was scheduled to start, wishing to be sure to be in the front row. Gino consists of two floors (with bars on each floor), with the stage on ground floor and a restaurant upstairs. Only a few people were at Gino when I arrived, so I sat down by a table. Soon, two drunk men in their 50s sat down at my table, and they started a conversation with me, much to my annoyance. I got to hear uninteresting tales about trips to America, boxing careers, seeing Johnny Thunders (but not the real one) and so on. In the rest of the message, I will refer to these two as The Bureacrat and The Carpenter. As an example of which intellectual level the discussion was on, here's a quote from The Carpenter: "My mate here only goes to places like to pick up chicks. Me, I'm interested in the music - I don't really care what the woman I take home look like" (it should be mentioned that I really doubt that they would have much appeal to women, and that neither of them were aware that there was a gig coming up at the venue that night). Look forward to Robert Forster noticing and commenting on The Bureaucrat... The support act was Mason Ruffner, who was OK but not great in my opinion. A lot of blues-dominated rock with lots of technical finesses on the guitar, but a bit monotone after a while. Or, to put it like this, if that kind of music was played on the radio, it would be good enough for me to not turn it off, but not good enough for me to turn up the volume.

As an occasional freelance writer for a local zine called Micro-Film , I sought out Forster for an interview. Because Micro-Film 's emphasis is on independent film, most of our half-hour together consisted of talk about DIAMOND MEN and HOLLYWOOD HARRY, an oddball comedy produced and directed by Forster in the mid-1980s, although we did touch on a few other subjects as well. When Micro-Film 's irregular schedule made the Forster interview obsolete, Mobius Home Video Forum generously allowed me to reproduce our talk here. I certainly wish I had more time with the man. In person, Forster seems to be a genuinely nice guy, appreciative of his fan base, politely signing autographs, shaking hands and even asking the names of everyone who stopped by to say "hello" or "I loved you in JACKIE BROWN." Whatever good things are happening to him personally and professionally these days couldn't happen to a more deserving fellow.

Robert Forster Capitán de Navío Marino inglés que luchó en la Guerra de la Independencia en la Escuadra de Lord Thomas Alexander Cochrane , distinguiéndose en la captura de la isla San Lorenzo en el Callao y ataques a diversos lugares de la costa del Virreinato del Perú. Operó con Cochrane en sus dos campañas previas a la Expedición Libertadora del Perú y en la expedición misma. Pertenecía a una antigua familia de Banborough, en el condado de Northumberland, en el norte de Inglaterra. Nació el 26 de diciembre de 1784 en High Brunton, un pequeño poblado en que se halla la parroquia de Embleton, donde fue bautizado. Hijo de Robert Forster y Seaton Forster. Cuando don José Alvarez Condarco, Agente de Chile, contrató a Lord Thomas Alexander Cochrane para hacerse cargo de la Escuadra con el rango de Vicealmirante en 1818 y con la facultad de traer a Chile a oficiales de Marina británicos y otros técnicos, varios se vinieron con él y su familia, en la fragata "Rose" . Otros lo hicieron por vía Buenos Aires. Entre estos últimos se hallaba Roberto Forster. Legalizada la situación de Lord Cochrane como Comandante en Jefe de la Escuadra, éste organizó su fuerza dándole el mando de la fragata
