Itaalia kirjaniku Torquato Tasso (1544-1595) raamat "Vabastatud Jeruusalemm" on esimene ristisõjaaineline eepos. Raamat ilmus esmakordselt Frankfurdis Maini ääres 1626. aastal ja on kaunistatud Matthäus Meriani vasegravüüridega.

Milton concluded his six years of quiet study with a remarkable eighteen-month tour to various centers of European antiquity and intellectual life, notably Italy. Early in his tour, in Paris in April 1638, he was able to meet one of his great intellectual heroes, the Dutch legal theorist Hugo Grotius, exiled from Holland but then serving as the Swedish ambassador to France. Among Grotius's Latin writings were two significant for Milton's own later poetry, the drama Adamus Exsul (1601) and the poem Christus patiens (published 1619). (The library's earliest edition of Milton's third great neo-Latin poetic influence, with Buchanan and Grotius, Marco Girolamo Vida's Christiad , first published in 1535, dates only from 1731, and was not included in this exhibit.)

Ludovico Ariosto (1474-1533) is the poet who best expresses the ideals of the Renaissance; his poetic and human vision is characterized by a desire for Man's complete harmony with himself and the world, by a faith in human reason and dignity and by a full involvement in worldly things. Ariosto's major work, "Orlando Furioso", recounts in verse different and fanstastic adventures of Medieval knights and their lady loves, but the traditional chivalric style is just a pretext for an imaginative pageant of duels and battles, incredible journeys, monsters and sorcerers, enchanted castles, friendship and love, betrayal and deceit, narrated at an unflagging pace in a dazzling style that transports the reader to that half-world between dream and reality. Torquato Tasso's (1544-1595) works are the most representative of the post-Tridentine period with its realization of Man's ephemerality after the Renaissance belief in his strength. In his major work, "Gerusalemme liberata", the feudal, courtly world is described through the fantastically dramatic adventures of the characters, and love is treated as the temptation of a purely earthly happiness in conflict with religious spirituality.

Rinaldo lovag pedig ezután jelen maradt Torquato Tasso költészetében, idõvel a fõ mûnek, a „Megszabadított Jeruzsálem"-nek is egyik igen rokonszenves fiatal hõsalakja.

Torna indietro English version Abruzzo Basilicata Calabria Campania ... Friuli Ven.Giulia
