Hlavni dilo: "Thalaba, nicitel", arabska kouzelna povidka v nepravidelnych versich, "Madoc", "Kletba Kehamy", "Roderich, posledni kral Gothu". Psal tez radu ballad.

Robert Southey (b. 1774) was born in Bristol, England. His writing talent emerged at a young age when he was expelled from Westminster School for an article in which he denounced the school's disciplinary practice of flogging students. After graduating from Balliol College in Oxford, Southey met and became close friends with Samuel Taylor Coleridge. In 1794 Southey wrote the plays

Robert Southey (1774-1843)
Two Poems Concerning the Slave Trade
Winter
A wrinkled crabbed man they picture thee,
Old Winter, with a rugged beard as grey
As the long moss upon the apple-tree;
Blue-lipt, an icedrop at thy sharp blue nose,
Close muffled up, and on thy dreary way
Plodding alone through sleet and drifting snows.
They should have drawn thee by the high-heapt hearth,
Old Winter! seated in thy great armed chair,
Watching the children at their Christmas mirth;
Or circled by them as thy lips declare
Some merry jest, or tale of murder dire,
Or troubled spirit that disturbs the night,
Pausing at times to rouse the mouldering fire,
Or taste the old October brown and bright.
"Go, Valentine..."
Go, Valentine, and tell that lovely maid
Whom fancy still will portray to my sight,
How here I linger in this sullen shade,
This dreary gloom of dull monastic night;
Say, that every joy of life remote
At evening's closing hour I quit the throng,
Listening in solitude the ring-dome's note

His Books
MY days among the Dead are past;
Around me I behold,
The mighty minds of old:
My never-failing friends are they,
With whom I converse day by day. With them I take delight in weal
And seek relief in woe;
And while I understand and feel
How much to them I owe,
With tears of thoughtful gratitude. My thoughts are with the Dead; with them
I live in long-past years,
Their virtues love, their faults condemn, Partake their hopes and fears; And from their lessons seek and find Instruction with an humble mind. My hopes are with the Dead; anon My place with them will be, And I with them shall travel on Through all Futurity; Yet leaving here a name, I trust, That will not perish in the dust. 40. Robert Southey: Poetical Works 1793-1810 Published By Pickering & Chatto
This major five volume critical edition recovers the poetry of Robert Southey (17741843),a writer who was central to the cultural and political controversies
http://www.pickeringchatto.com/southey.htm

Robert Southey:
Poetical Works 1793–1810
The Pickering Masters 5 Volume Set General Editor: Lynda Pratt Volume Editors: Tim Fulford and Daniel Roberts This major five volume critical edition recovers the poetry of Robert Southey (1774–1843), a writer who was central to the cultural and political controversies of his own time, but who has been neglected by nineteenth and twentieth-century critics of British romanticism. This is the first modern scholarly edition of Southey’s poetry and it coincides with a period of major reassessment of his manifold, complex contributions to romantic period culture. The edition will be the standard resource for the growing numbers of readers of Southey, a starting-point for critics to take in their own work on the forgotten Lake Poet and his troubled and troubling relationship to British romantic writing in new directions. The mid-nineteenth century texts still to be found on library shelves are wholly inadequate for the growing number of scholars wishing to conduct research on Southey.
  • First modern scholarly edition of Southey’s poetical works Includes extensive use of previously unpublished manuscript poems and texts not included in the Poetical Works (1837–8) A Pickering Masters edition
The new edition addresses 150 years of editorial neglect of Southey’s writings. Centring on the period 1793–1810, when his reputation as a poet and controversialist was established, it constructs for the first time an accurate corpus and offers freshly edited, annotated reading texts of Southey’s poetry and plays. Through its unique comparison of printed versions with newly discovered manuscripts, the edition reveals for the first time the extensive revisions Southey made to his poetry and in so doing maps the changes in his literary and intellectual trajectory, especially from radical to Tory.
