There has never been absolute separation of church and state in America. But many religions have thrived here in large measure because of general adherence to that principle, despite certain departures from it. The greater the adherence and the fewer the departures, the better it will be for all people of all faiths. Hence those groups which uphold the separation principle, far from being "ambivalent" toward religion, are actually among its staunchest supporters.
Samuel Rabinove First Things, a Monthly Journal of Religion and Public Life, May 1990, from Albert J. Menendez and Edd Doerr, The Great Quotations on Religious Freedom Sir Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888-1975)

It is not God that is worshipped but the group or authority that claims to speak in His name. Sin becomes disobedience to authority not violation of integrity.

http://www.cozaddale.org/baptists.htm
Who are the Baptist? If you are a Baptist, you should know why you are a Baptist, and to know why you are a Baptist, you should know who the Baptist are. To know who the Baptist are, you should know where the Baptist began, what the Baptist believe and what the Baptist have done.
  • Where did the Baptist begin?
  • While we do not contend that only Baptist are going to Heaven, we do contend that the first Church was organized according to principles historically maintained by Baptists, and that Baptist have existed since that day. First called Christians, then by other names down through the centuries until they received the name that has distinguished them from Protestant and Catholic groups alike.
  • What do the Baptist Believe?
  • The Baptist believe the great Bible Doctrines that have characterized histories Christianity from its inception. They believe:
  • That the Bible is the Inerrant, Devinely Inspired Word of God. That there is one eternal living and true God.
  • The Baptist believe that God is sovereign, omnipotent, omiscient and omnipresent. That He is a personal being, who created, preserve and rules the universe. They believe that God is infinite in holiness and that all other perfections and that to Him is due the highest love, reverence and obedience.

    ANABAPTISTS AND THEIR ADVERSARIES
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. James 2:17-19
I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. - Rev. 3:1
The issue, between Martin Luther and the Anabaptists, was not over free salvation by grace; both believed that. The issue was regarding the new creature in Christ and living the gospel, which one professed. Although Luther detested the moral profli- gacy of the Catholic church, he still loved his German beer and was not prepared for the strict holiness of life, upon which the Baptists have historically insisted. For this reason, he came uncomfortably close to removing the book of James from the canon of Scripture, calling it the "epistle of straw." Baptists could neither welcome nor rejoice with Luther and the reformers, over the Reformers' newly re-discovered truth. Protestant loose living creeps through the pages of history, validating Anabaptist suspicions and reservations.
"Lutherans seek only two things wealth and wives . . .to them the gospel means the right to live as they please." Erasmus (Catholic)
